In your opinions, IF Wenger leaves this summer, would arsenal football club be an appealing challenge to any decent manager with the issues we have at the moment. Player issues, money issues (or so were told) etc. I see it as an amazing opportunity for a manager to come in and set up a steady ship.

1.) 11 Jan 2018 19:23:40
Im not too sure there are money issues but there are contract, player and coaching issues. i'm sure we can attract an ambitious potentially successful manager to this club. There is so much potential to improve in so many areas. It would be an attractive option to many.

2.) 11 Jan 2018 20:09:14
Steve, Per our accounts

The investment in transfers has resulted in a reduction in the Group’s total cash and bank balances which amounted to £180.1 million at the balance sheet date (2016 - £226.5million) . These balances are inclusive of debt service reserve deposits of £35.9 million (2016 - £35.4 million) . With a lower cash position, the Group’s overall net debt rose to £47.4 million

So rev nuke up and profits up due to broadcasting deal and new commercial deals but we only have 150m in cash which is considerably down on Last yesterday despite the tv deal. Plus we have liabilities to be met.

4th rate team with 4th rate transfer budget and 4th rate wage bill

Believe we are not underachieving and should be careful what we wish for but no harm in wishing! N.

3.) 11 Jan 2018 21:10:19
Sy4 ain't you the optimist with the 4th place/ rate . You Wenger die hard you 😜.

4.) 11 Jan 2018 21:15:59
Like i said no money problems. I don't believe to nearest pound your figures and i don't believe the figures on the internet the other day when we were ranked 2nd strongest team in the world behind citeh, with 300 mil in the bank. Figures are all distorted to suit. The truth is we have no money worries compared to others around us.

5.) 11 Jan 2018 21:22:17
So you don’t believe signed off statutory accounts. I give up.

6.) 11 Jan 2018 21:26:29
Thank god for that. Lol.

7.) 11 Jan 2018 21:42:39
Sy they are last years results. Compared to 99% of football teams the debt and the reserves are healthier than any prem team. Even accounting for those results wenger chose to start this season with a plus net spend, so i would presume so far our finances must have improved further, after the forecast from gazidis of even better growth this year. We, in financial terms are very healthy and if wenger stopped wasting money on crap defenders and crap midfielders, we could also be healthy on the field as well. We are very healthy.

8.) 11 Jan 2018 22:00:41
Period end was 31/ 5/ 17 - most recent accounts.

9.) 11 Jan 2018 22:11:22
With the possibility of an sanchez ozil and walcott leaving about £400,000 a weeks wages will be freed up as well. All in all a huge ammount of money available to invest in top quality replacements. i'm afraid i'm not hopefull wenger can successfully do that. His recent availability of money that he has invested on top players hasn't produced improvements on the pitch. He has spent (not including ozil and sanchez ) hundreds of millions on players, largely unsuccessfully.

10.) 11 Jan 2018 22:42:12
This is what over 1bn pounds gets you

BEFORE THE TAKEOVER

European Cup Winners' Cup (1) : 1969-70

AFTER THE TAKEOVER

Premier League (2) : 2011-12, 2013-14

FA Cup (1) : 2010-11

League Cup (2) : 2013-14, 2015-16

City were almost relegated before the huge investments - that’s what we are up against

Until this season - I would say a pretty poor return.

11.) 12 Jan 2018 00:07:23
They are making progress aren't they. They have a manager with his finger on the pulse as well. What did all that have to do with us dropping down to where we stand in the league today, behind toots and liverpool in 6th.

12.) 12 Jan 2018 00:51:51
Plus sy you didn't reply to the original posters post. Lol.

13.) 12 Jan 2018 02:05:55
Arsenal is a great challenge for Wenger's eventual replacement. Wenger has taken the club to the brink of the elite and a manager coming in has funds to spend and the core of a decent squad. It will take a couple of windows to fill the spaces vacated by Ozil and Sanchez and to bring in 3 or 4 top players.
Simeone would be my first choice, assuming he has learnt to speak English. Age and ambition are on his side.

14.) 12 Jan 2018 09:17:55
sy4 seriously just look at the bigger picture. the worst is yet to come believe me. this will get verya nasty.

if stan is still here in 10years as a club we will be dead. no top4 again will hopefully shake the apple cart.

My prediction is, after all the hate Wenger receives, arsenal will finish 3rd this season and reach the semi finals of the fa cup and win the europa league. You heard it here first folks.

1.) 07 Sep 2017 09:34:03
Another dreamer!

2.) 07 Sep 2017 09:48:45
I think at best we will do a treble! Three games in a row.

3.) 07 Sep 2017 10:07:56
Sanogo 😁😁.

4.) 07 Sep 2017 10:15:42
It would be nice if you were right Jaybo and it is of course and not beyond the realms of reasonable possibility, but Everton fans could easily claim the same with every bit as much credibility as Arsenal fans.
The past history alone is not a great basis for ignoring the current reality and there is nothing at Arsenal right now.
Other than blind loyalty I can't see anything to suggest that we will finish above any of Chelsea Utd City Liverpool or Spurs and it's anyone's guess between us and Everton who will get more points.
I'm yet to hear a single convincing reason from anyone as to why this season will come good and when I look at what I have seen for myself from our manager players and club it's impossible to make a reasonable argument for why we would make top 4.
History and blind loyalty so far is all I'm hearing from those who claim to be real fans simply because they always think Arsenal will win everything every season.
I'd love to hear one person put forward a reasonable argument as to why we would finish top 3.

5.) 07 Sep 2017 11:24:54
G62,
There are plenty of reasons we could finish top 3.

Errm, errm, errm.

Will get back to you when I think of one.

6.) 07 Sep 2017 11:42:33
Dags don't that mate, If we all have to wait for you to come up with a genuine footballing reason we will never hear from you again, and that would be horrible :- (.
Let Nes cone up with a reason instead :-)
Only joking Nes.

7.) 07 Sep 2017 11:48:57
I would put good money on us finishing above Brighton but luckily I don't gamble anymore.

8.) 07 Sep 2017 12:10:05
The league I'm pretty certain we will finish top 8 but nowhere near top 4, I now think Liverpool and Spurs will battle it out for 4th and 5th while Utd City Chelsea sort out top 3 between them.
My best prediction based on current team manager and state the club is in behind the scenes
Utd
City
Chelsea
Liverpool
Spurs
With Arsenal Everton and one other club WBA Stoke Southampton possibly making up the remaining 3 places in the top 8 in one order or another.
As for the cups to difficult to predict as it all depends on the luck of the draw to some degree, get Hull
Sutton and Lincoln again and who knows :-)

Giroud will come on and win this game. Also, Walcott is she*p 😎.

Fair play Jaybo.

2.) 11 Aug 2017 23:25:45
Well played mate.

good call Jay.

01 Aug 2017 20:43:20
There is a petition going about on change. org about Stan kroenke. He has started a TV channel that is all about blood sports, hunting etc. Anyway, apparently. The clubs sponsers aren't happy so apparently the club will lose a shed load of money if they all pull out. It might end up being forgot about but just read about it so thought I'd share.

1.) 01 Aug 2017 21:49:39
Jay mate I'm not sure where you are in the world but it's plain to see your a true gooner, happy groundhog day where ever you are just waking up mate ;-)

2.) 02 Aug 2017 01:09:25
I'm laughing out loud at the idea of sponsors in Dubai giving a damn about killing animals when they'll punish you severely for sex outside of marriage.

19 May 2017 17:11:30
Any one think Tony Adams views from his new book on Wenger are right? And do you think if he did have a role at arsenal, he'd be able to help the defense out like he says he could?

Jaybo84

1.) 19 May 2017 17:42:16
He's doing great at Granada so doubt he'd be tempted. anyone can talk the talk but ask Neville about walking the walk.

2.) 19 May 2017 17:53:06
Personally, I think our Tone is as nutty as a fruitcake. Amazing guy, has been on a personal journey that takes courage and commitment and of course was a world class defender.

His managerial and coaching "career" has been chequered to put it mildly, and he does not seem to be the warmest or most personable individual in any interviews I've read about him or with him speaking in.
I think his immortality at Arsenal remains on the pitch - who can forget his brilliant volley against Everton on the sun to complete a memorable win and season? I think my memories are best left there without him sullying this through some misguided attempt to "solve" Arsenal's issues.

Getting rid of that pompous ass Wenger - "Hmmm, I may leave, or I may not, but I am so self important I play you all along to my own amusement, irrespective of the devastation that may lead to for the Club I purportedly love".

3.) 19 May 2017 18:49:59
Adams was an awesome player. I suggest he looks at Wenger's managerial record and compares it to his own.

4.) 19 May 2017 20:02:23
He's just showing what a good defensive coach he is as Granada have just gone 2 down after 8 minutes! 😱.

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, he did only say Wenger could not coach, nothing about managing and he does have a point. Wenger does not do the coaching as has been pointed out by many former players. One current player, who I won't name, has said that he does not know what Wenger actually does, as he never sees him on the training ground.}

5.) 20 May 2017 08:23:19
Christ that's crazy ed, so does Bouldy do the training and unless Bouldy is hopeless why is some of our defending still so bad on occasions or is he simply told what he can and can't do with the squad?

Also begs the question why players praise him and say he's taught them so much, Henry being an example or does that mean this is a more recent change.

Klopp, Conte, Mourinho and Guardiola I can't imagine would ever be away from the training ground.

My comment on Adams was that he felt he wasn't given a chance to be the defensive coach here and I was watching Sly News who at that moment reported Granada had gone 2 down after 8 minutes, thus so much for his defensive coaching 😂😂.

{Ed001's Note - Bould takes the training, but Wenger will tell him exactly what to train, as he does with every facet of the club. It is always to his instructions.

Being taught something doesn't necessarily mean it is in training. Rafa Benitez, Jose Mourinho, Alex Ferguson, Harry Redknapp etc etc do not (or did not in Fergie's case) take training either. They can still teach you things by sitting down and discussing things that they have spotted in games or that the coaches have mentioned to them. Rafa used to always point out to Steven Gerrard about how he was running too much during games, rather than congratulate him on a good performance, he would point out what he could have done better etc.

Guardiola is a particularly hands on coach, rather than a manager like Wenger and the ones mentioned previously. Unlike Wenger, who micromanages all aspects of the club, Guardiola is obsessively micromanaging every aspect of the football played. During training he will be constantly talking to players, instructing them what he wants. Both for me are examples of people who need to learn to delegate more.

I would not judge Adams on the mess at Granada, it is an impossible job on his hands dealing with the shambles left behind by the Pozzos. Most of the players are not even owned by the club itself, so they just don't care as they won't be there next season.}

6.) 20 May 2017 09:09:00
Thanks ed much appreciated again, out of interest are you a fan of Guardiola re your comment about him?

{Ed001's Note - not really. He has some fantastic ideas but I am more of a fan of the coaches he has taken his ideas from - Marcelo Bielsa and Juanma Lillo. Pep needs to stop turning his players into what he wants them to be and coaching the team to play to the strengths of the players he has.}

7.) 20 May 2017 13:21:35
Thanks again ed, it was good to read up on those two guys and both still in football. Well Bielsa going to Lille for next season and interesting that Lillo is with Sampaoli at Seville.

Much appreciated mate.

{Ed001's Note - I love Bielsa, he is a mad genius! Lillo is fascinating as well, the more I read about him, the more I think the guy is a genius too.}

Can I ask the Ed's what they do? Surprised I haven't asked before. You seem to be clued up so was just wondering whether it's because you're friends with people in the know or you work within the football business etc.

Giroud is quality in my opinion. I'd much rather start him up front than welbz and Walcott. Perez seemed alright, but like everyone has said, he wasn't given enough game time. If it was up to me, I'd keep Giroud and get rid of Theo as Giroud offers a lot more up front. Obviously Theo doesn't appeal to a lot of clubs as he's a bag of s**t and is payed way too much.

Sanogo, this is a genuine rumour, it's what this site is about. If you don't like rumours and want guaranteed news. Go to sky sports news. This is how it used to be here. But now it's all questions to the Ed's instead of actual rumours.

Arsenal will sign mahrez this month and that's about it as Sanchez is off to city. They won't sign Evans as if you look at the squad, he's not needed unless he is looking to offload Mustafi again. I can genuinely only see mahrez signing. I'm guessing the Ed's will know more than me but that's just how I see this window going.

Wenger will play him anywhere as long as he gets enough game time to encourage him to sign a new deal.
