Great performances all round today and Per was absolutely immense. However, in young Rob Holding I think we have a star of the future. He handled Costa superbly and with maturity. He had a bit too much space for the goal but overall I didn't have any concerns with Holding up against him whatsoever. He will be a regular before too long. Quality.

Agreed on all points, Mertesacker was majestic and Holding took no mess. The player John Stones wishes he could be.

If we continue with 3 at the back I think Chambers could make a return on that right side as well. Both will be 22 in December and could form the heart of our defence for as many as 10 years.

Krychowiak to West Brom on a years loan. Great signing and would have been a fit for us.

Sky put up a shocking stat earlier. In 2017 only Sunderland have faced more shots on target than Arsenal in the PL (and they are no longer in it of course) . Factor in how much possession we have that is a horrendous stat meaning when we don't have the ball there is a high probability we will face a shot on target.

Wonder where our problems lie.?

Wenger.

Charlie it's not wengers fault

he's done nothing wrong.

3.) 27 Aug 2017 23:38:23
He's done nothing right either mate.

I'm not an arsenal fan. My outside view is this. Wenger has lost the dressing room. It is not his fault. He didn't refuse to spend, he wasn't given the funds. He has steered the club through a tough financial period and apart from last season qualified for ucl. He hasn't lost the whole dressing room. People like Ramsey still seem to want to play for wenger. Your culprits are sanchez ox, ozil. Wenger is still doing what classy managers do and taking the flak for the players shortcomings. If I were an arsenal fan I would be re directing my anger to the over paid prima donnas who don't seem to care about the fans. Wenger has been a good servant to you and turned down some massive jobs to help your club. It's too late now but if I was wenger I would have got rid of sanchez ozil ox and a couple more and started again. you're not in the ucl so you could have concentrated on the league. You may have found it hard to replace the quality of ozil and sanchez but replacing there commitment would be easy. Just look to the stands.

Great post mate but i think the board manager and nlmost of the players should all go.

Ryan Bertrand continues to improve and impress. Could be a good option as LB is definitely an area we need to address. Robertson at Hull in a year or two could also be a great full back.

Not sure of any details but is there any reason we didn't move Arteta into our coaching team? Doesn't seem right somehow seeing him on the City bench given the extended years we gave him. He may well turn into a great manager in future. His temperament certainly is right for it and he was obviously an intelligent footballer.

Zaha and maybe Mahrez are the players we can realistically hope to attract. There is very little to excite any "major" signing to come to us right now. Same reasons that make it difficult to retain our best players. There was a time when players expressed a genuine interest in coming to Arsenal to play for Wenger. Sadly those days are in the past. Likely no CL football will make us 5th or 6th choice for the top players wanting to play in the EPL. Hopefully the new structure behind the scenes helps us get back on track in terms of recruitment and squad development. We seem to be woefully short in that area.

De Vrij from Lazio is the best available CB around just now. Either on the cheap in Jan if possible or nailed down on a free for the summer. But I suspect he will have options.

Can't wait to hear his thoughts on the Van Dijk deal.

There are some quality players out of contract this season and we would be wise to be looking at Goretzka and De Vrij the Lazio CB. Butland and Lemar or Mahrez. I also have a feeling Zaha would flourish with us if we were to have a good clear out.

Money is obviously a factor but more so when players are frustrated at the lack of competitiveness and ambition. The Ozil and Sanchez situation shows Wenger was capable of making marquee signings but unable to build on that by adding continual quality and improving the team. Had we been winning leagues and competing in the CL negotiating new deals for them both would have been a far easier process. Fact is they look at the team with the same frustrations we do. Mediocre players compared to the top sides in the league. People can point the finger at them but reality is they are good enough to be playing with a higher level of player than we have put around them and those teams are willing to pay them well to do that. No brainer as much as it pains me to say it. Doesn't excuse any lack of effort or attitude though.

Spot on D16. Fact is we lack a quality core in both central defense and midfield and without that we won't compete at the top level. We are vulnerable without the ball and always likely to concede. Our successful sides of the past had this. It is also the reason where luxury players like Ozil are exposed as you need all hands to the pump when we don't have possession. With the right core you can carry players like that to some extent as a Silva, Viera, Petit would provide a wall in front of an equally quality defense. They would win the ball back and we would be off in attack again.
