I've read into the Song to Barca speculation, the story seems to have been broken by The National (A middle Eastern Paper) with all other sites/papers attributing the story to them. However they have absolutely know quotes attributed to any Barca or Arsenal Officials or the player in question. They simply say "Insiders say the club will discuss a transfer fee with Arsenal next week" and then go on to discuss other Barca targets and Pique is quoted in saying how much he admirers Song. It's what called a flyer aka BS! Same way the gossip magz say how such and such a Celebs best mate told them Mel Gibson wet the bed last night! And never name the source. I don't no what way it's going to go I'm not in the know but this doesn't even qualify as journalism in my opinion, and I wouldn't be getting to worked up over it atm.

Things escalated quickly. Last week, media said barca wanted song. then bid for him. yesterday they discussed the fee and today on caughtoffside he agreed a wage of 75k/week. if the transfer market works like i would be on arsenal.com instead of reading rumour sites.

Seems that when barca/real like a player even if there has been contact between clubs that some of therte top players tend to come out and make statements like they would love play with that player
Agree0

The Barca player would not mind him coming and lets remind ourselves Song is with agent Darren Dein (Cecs clichy henry ade rvp are his other players at AFC) an none of his players have remained at AFC
this is why Wenger banned him from the training ground

My suspicion is thus. A while ago RvP was in the press saying that Arsenal needed to hold on to Song due to the assists he had provided him. Then a bit further down the line, RvP released THAT statement citing lack of ambition and the club going in a different direction to what he wanted.
I think RvP was told that Song WILL he sold. He didn't like it, and the rest is history.

Ed - what is your gut feeling on Song? reports of an agreement with barca seem to be gathering pace and with what you were saying about Wanyama, this one seems more and more believable.
cheers, Andy {Ed002's Note - I expect him to go.}
Believable17
Unbelievable35
There are no reports gathering pace at all. Song is under contract until 2015, Arsenal are under no pressure whatsoever to sell him. The only person really pushing it is Duncan Castles, who is utter rubbish when it comes to rumours that don't involve Tottenham.
Barcelona just let leak a story to the media in order to drive Song's price down, and Barca players are just tapping him up to unsettle him. There are no legitimate reports that Song has agreed to terms with Barca outside of what Duncan Castles has reported.
Barca better cough up 25m pounds or more if they want to come anywhere near Song.
Like I said, Arsenal are under no pressure. Perhaps next summer they should look to offload him, since he will have 2 years left in his contract if he doesn't get an extension. But until then, Song will be an Arsenal player this season.

If song was to choose barca he's gonna be on the bench all season because they have masherano and buesquets
Agree0
Disagree0
You really expect him to leave ED? What would you think a fair fee would be? As the above poster stated, we are under ZERO pressure to sell.
At least 20mil...
I just don't know why. He wouldnt start in Barca. He's a major figure at the Emirates. {Ed002's Note - His fee would be palatable for Barcelona and a lot less than that of Javi Martinez who they may wait another year for. Keep in mind he may wish to move and the funding would facilitate a bid for someone like Wanyama or M'Vila and keep something for a rainy day.}
Agree0
Disagree0
Hes not gunna go
Agree0
Disagree0
I wouldn't mind if Song left to be honest, he was good for us last season, but only in an attacking role, now that we have Cazorla we don't need him. If we can get at least 20mil for him we could get a replacement like Wanyama and probably have enough left for an new defender, like van der Weil.
Could this be the motive behind the deal, by any chance ed??

11 Aug 2012 20:01:34
Anybody know how long Song has on his contract? I thought it was 1 or 2 years but one news site said 3! If he has that long to run then he's at least worth £22m and given the way the Barca team is goin on about him he must be worth £30m!
Sheeny {Ed007's Note - It looks like he has three years left to me although some places are saying two.}
Believable23

It's definitely 3. Everyone thought it was 2, but there was an Arsenal finance report that listed him being under contract until 2015.

Exactly! I agree, the biggest irony when players start saying how 'wonderful' this or that player is, if I was the potential selling club I would be, you are all absolutely correct and that is why the price is now 30mil - thanks very much :)

if the tabloids are true i cant effing believe rvp has been made captain - it is making a mockery of the club - basically he can say what he wants about the club refuse to sign a contract and still be made captain! it beggars belief - i for one will boo the b****** everytime he touches the ball. he shouldnt even be wearing the shirt if he hasnt apologised publicly - its a farce beyond belief. i urge every true gunner to do the same. the deluded 'fans' that think rvp can do no wrong and still deserves to wear the shirt without an apology have no morals. those same 'fans' will still love him if he leaves straight after the match!

If he stays for a season and scores 30 goals your head will be up his arse with the rest of us. He is a grown man who was honest to his fans about his opinions and has acted professionally ever since making those comments about the clubs direction. Any true arsenal fan will know that out club was headed in the wrong direction and now because of him we've spent 40 million. How dare you call us deluded fans for supporting a player who wears the shirt with pride and does a job every time hes needed. To think you call yourself a fan but you'd boo an arsenal player. You are a fool who is getting carried away behind the safety of your keyboard and clearly know nothing about the real world of football. The person you should direct your anger to, if anyone, should be his agent.

I think all he has done is do what we all wanted(got the club to start buying)to much paper talk trying to upset us gooners and turn us against him,he called there bluf and it worked with giroud pod and cazorla being brought in,and if it wasnt for rvp scoring all them goals we wouldnt be in CL so before you start booing against are captin you might want to have a think 1st.gunner d
Agree1

Although I understand your point, all RVP has said is that he won't sign a new contract, he hasn't slated the club, manager or any of the players. So has behaved professionally and with Wenger seeing him every day in training, he will take a decision on whether he is the right man to lead this team. I for one will cheer for RVP if he scores and wins us matches. this is. Results business and if my team get results with personnel that I don't really like then il take that.
Agree0

Don't believe the media. Booing him is not gonna help him or the team Back your club and players till its definate. Don't believe the hype!
Agree0
Disagree0
In all fairness, usually I never condone booing of any sort. But as I have said before, I truly believe he should have been publicly stripped of the captaincy for public dissent. Vermaelen should be awarded the captaincy with immediate effect and RVP should be lucky he's even in the squad to face Cologne.
This may seem childish/classless to some, but honestly, if fans boo him, it's no less than he deserves. If he really is Captain, then Wenger really does need a slap, that is disgraceful.
This whole affair is tainting what has been a great summer for the fans.

You clearly don't understand what it means to support a team, you dont do it by booing and to Think you might be in the stadium next year booing away while someone who deserves to be there will miss out. People seriously need to stop venting at RVP. Our club showed lack of ambition for the past seven years, he's nearing the end of his career and wants something to show for it. All he said was he did not agree with the club administration on where the club was heading but neither did most of the fans. Fair enough we did good business this summer and showed ambition but his statement came before that and he never slacked off any fans so does not deserve the stick we're giving him. People talk about his loyalty, how about being loyal to our club captain and giving him the benefit of the doubt? I for one am thankful for the 132 goals he gave us despite injury and would not hate him even if he was going to city. Having said that, I hope he stays with us and would be gutted if he didn't.
On a more cheery note, can't wait to see the new team play!

Calm the f down mate. RVP even said at the end of last season (not this past season, the season before), that he hoped Arsenal would strengthen the club further in the next couple years.
Perhaps it was nothing more than a gambit to get the club to buy players. He has seemingly succeeded. If he stays on and signs an extension, and Arsenal win a couple trophies in the next 2-3 years, we'll all be signing a different tune.
Agree0

For the supposed arsenal fan that says that i am a fool to boo him obviously you havent supported arsenal long enough. you are the deluded imbociles that have no morals and dont understand what arsenal football club is about, you are fickle enough to let a player cuss this club then support him it shows your mentality and immaturity. you are the fans that support arsenal today chelsea tomorrow so before you start cussing a true gooner look at the facts and put your name to a post.

Back the players that play for your club or go support another team, support like that is not needed. he never said he wanted to leave, just that he didnt wanna sign another contract with the way the club is heading and its done the job, now he will stay. would you work for a company going in the wrong direction, lacking ambition in bettering their company...no? then dont blame him for doing the same.... gooner1010

GS - this is speculation on par with the newspapers mate. I for one was unhappy at the booing of AW and Asharvin in parts last year.
We have to understand that Arsenal Wenger is one shrewd cookie, and has forgotten more about football than you could learn in 30 lifetimes. IF he's picking RVP for Captain to start, he's doing it with a message behind it.

Saying I haven't been an arsenal fan long enough when you clearly haven't even been around for the past 7 years because if you had you would realise that it was time for a slight change in policy. Again about the booing, just because you were foolish enough to do it for viera or RVP or arshavin or any arsenal player doesn't mean everyone else is. I think it's time you get of your high horse because you're argument isn't flawed it's just straight wrong.

Whilst I don't agree with booing any player, I think some people are deluded about this situation treating humans a saviour that got the signings through the door. Podolski was sorted last Christmas and Cazorla was a target 12 months ago.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with your post, but it doesn't really work like that.
A players value is based on many variables (including length remaining on contract, clauses in the contract, the players willingness to leave and how willing the club are to sell).
At the end of the day a player is only worth what another club are willing to pay.

Lets not forget that Giroud is also a league winner thus Montpellier were in a better position to demand a higher price and both Giroud and Podolski are internationals for top countries.

Players from the EPL and Championship tend to come with a higher fee as the market is inflated compared to other Leagues. Wegner has often said this and tends to buy players from abroad for this very reason.

Henry only went for 16m because he made it clear that he would only move to 'Barcelona' due to his love of Arsenal, however that did cost us financially as we would have got more money if other clubs thought they had a chance.
Henry also clearly regreted it and should have stayed with us and finished his career.

Agree0

Sorry Ed002, but out of curiosity, with which club are talks progressing? {Ed002's Note - Gaston Ramirez was available in January for about 15M euro plus a signing on fee - Liverpool had looked at him last year but there was no follow up or offer made for the player. Bologna will not now listen to offers less than 25M euros (up from 20M euros). However, it remains most likely that Ramirez will move in the summer with interest being shown by Napoli, Wolfsburg, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Palermo and Juventus. Unsubstantiated rumours suggest Manchester United, Spurs, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested. Sevilla were interested but I understand that Ramirez has no interest in such a move. Bologna have held discussions with several interested teams (Manchester City, Wolfsburg, Inter, Napoli and Juventus). Gaston Ramirez's agent Pablo Betancourt said in early July that Juventus and Wolfsburg are interested in his client and that he knows of no on going interest in the player from other Italian clubs. However, I can confirm that (a) an offer from Wolfsburg that was acceptable to Bologna has been rejected by the player who has no interest in moving to Germany at this time; (b) Some sort of offer was made by Inter via Betancourt but it fell well short of the revised value Bologna has put on the player - but they may return with another offer; (c) Napoli has returned to Bologna with a proposal that they have yet to respond to; and (d) talks with Juventus have continued and a deal including cash and players (including Motta) is being negotiated; (e) Betancourt has started hawking the player around English clubs - seemingly without the permission of Bologna and requesting a substantial signing on fee. He has spoken with Manchester City.}

I honestly believe RVP will not join ManUtd. His choice is United but hes the one who is selling us out and I believe there is no way wenger will sell him tol fergie and I believe he would rather let him rundown his contract. What AW would rather loose him to Man Utd for free next year than 20m+ this year. I hope he has more sense than that.
Agree0

£20-25million & he will go to United. The cost of allowing Van Persie to run down his contract is at least £15 million, plus his current wages of say £5million. I would love to see him stay, as our attacking options would be awesome. The move is clearly motivated by money, hence an increased offer of say £7.5m signing on fee, plus a 4 year deal at £150,000 per week might tip the balance. This totals approx £39 million. Whereas at United he would receive slightly more, but not sufficient to warrant moving his family. Dont forget the cost of replacing Van Persie with a quality player would take up most of the transfer fee we obtain, plus any such player would want decent wages. My only feeling against this is that Wenger intends using Giroud & Podolski to replace Van Persie.

I agree with your sentiments, however what truly worries me is that the club is actually considering the sale. A few years ago this story would have been dead before it even got started, because everybody knew there was no way we'd sell to United. This time round, like last summer, the story has been going on and on for weeks, we've rejected bids where in the past they'd never even have been made.
I am worried about this. I just hope, if we do sell to united, the fans give the club exactly what it deserves, whatever that may be!
