Eds, any truth to us bidding for Xhaka? Not sure how reliable Raphael Honigstein is, but he's suggesting we've made an offer of 50m euros?! (Unlikely in my eyes with the midfield options we have. )

Apparently Bayern are close to agreeing a 75m Euro move for Alexis Sanchez.

I'm not opposed to selling him as he's not as irreplaceable as some fans would have us believe. However Wenger will never sign more than 3 first team players and we're in desperate need of a CB and a CF. Arsene is clearly targeting a CM too so that would be the 3.

A lot of people seem to go with the theory that we'll never sign more than 3 players, which I do understand, but isn't always true.

We signed Welbeck, Chambers, Ospina, Sanchez and Debuchy in one window, which is 4 first team players, 5 if you include Chambers (Im personally thinking of him as still a 'reserve' player)

And in the 11/ 12 seaon, we signed Gervinho, Arteta, Mertesacker, Santos, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Chu-Young Park (though the less said about him the better)

Don't get me wrong, I doubt we're going to sign 15 players, but we've got Arteta, Rosicky and Flamini leaving almost for sure.
We've got Szczesny potentially staying at Roma, Ospina's rumoured to be out too.
Debuchy will go also.

Straight away that's 6 players who will most likely be leaving the club.

Then there's rumours that Walcott will go, Oxlade-Chamberlain will go, Mertesacker, Gibbs too and even as you stated, there's talk of Alexis going.

They won't all leave, but that's potentially 10 players who'd leave and we don't have the depth to replace them all from youth.

If the talk of Granit Xhaka almost being wrapped up is true then that already signals a big change in tact from us.

I'm usually a negative nancy about transfer windows, but I'm feeling confident here!
This is probably Wenger's last chance to succeed with Arsenal before he leaves/ retires/ moves upstairs and I don't think he'll want to go out with the memory of fans feelings this year.

Decent article, but Wenger always tries to promote before transfers and we have a lot of young players knocking on the door:

Buy a new CB/ RB
Jenko
Chambers

3 Midfielders OUT, In:
Arteta => Zelalem
Rosicky => Toral
Flamini => Xhaka

New Attackers:
Out:
Welbeck (Injury) => Iwobi
Campbell => JEFF
Walcott (doubt he does) =>?

Sometimes I see Sanchez as more of a hindrance than a help if I'm honest. Not that I want to see him gone.

I think 75 is the most he'll ever be worth so it would be peak time to sell him in terms of financial returns of investment. It's a lot of money that could be reinvested in the squad but we've seen with previous high profile departures from the EPL, Suarez and Bale, that often that kind of cash is squandered. Maybe putting the whole lump on one player is a better strategy than diversifying the funds with a multitude of signings.

So next point is, who out there is better than Sanchez (17 goals in a bad season) and bear in mind that we also need to replace Walcott on the right (whether he leaves or not)

Another Sanchez level player on the opposing wing and an upgrade on Giroud (like him a lot but not mobile enough, would make an exceptional rotational choice)

I think Welbeck, with his recent development, would flourish in the middle with the right personnel on either flank and Ozil behind him, but he's out till January apparently.

Not sure what to think from it. Love the guy but he did annoy me throwing a strop when he got taken off. However I'm sure there's more to it that just being subbed. Probably this season of disappointment has taken its toll.
