Hello Ed love the site,, been coming on here for ages but never posted before I know u get asked the same question a lot so apologise if I do the same but with players like Dybala moving and Martinez prob going Italy it leaves only Higuain imo out of all the realistic targets that could come in and improve us massively and take us to another level... Do we have any serious interest in him?

{Ed001's Note - from what I have been told tonight, no.}

Oh wow. Arsenal are just wow. We are not winning the league with giroud it's as simple as that. Please tell me we are in for cavani, negredo, Ibrahimovic, benzema. Just please say a striker that we are getting, or one we have serious interest in. And please sorry to ask but update on Petr cech or Casillas? So many questions, just annoyed with arsenal sorry mate.

{Ed025's Note - a striker is the priority apex, forget all the other positions mate, a striker has to be No 1 for me mate..

I disagree that Higuain would improve us massively. As for Negredo, he is worse than what we currently have, and Ibrahimovic, well that's just silly talk. Cavani is washed up, so that leaves Benzema. He's the only one that really improves us out of those guys imo. What I'm saying is there is no point just signing another striker for the sake of it. If they are not absolute top quality then they won't improve us, because like him or not, Giroud's goalscoring record is very good, and people seem to be forgetting how many goals Theo brings when he is fit.

Agree. There is enough quality cover elsewhere. Any player coming in has to be better than what we already have. We just need a clinical striker who can be relied upon to knick a goal in tight games. Giroud is not that type of player. A name rarely mentioned is Tevez. Proven goalscorer. Had a great season last year. Might be worth a risk. Only downside is that it means height is still an issue in the team.

I find myself agreeing with almost everything you've been saying of late, Ubistonk. However, Cavani is not washed up. He's played out of position in favour of Zlatan. That's got to mess with his form, especially considering he's not really the type of striker to slot well on the wing, like a Suarez or an Aguero. Imagine Giroud or Van Pursestrings on a wing? Put him where he's best and watch him find the form that made PSG pay so much for him to begin with.

Fully appreciate your point about him playing out of position. But if he's that good, why hasn't he been able to displace Ibra? Because PSG paid all that money for him doesn't make him a great player. After all, remember what they paid for David Luiz? Mourinho still wakes up in fits of laughter from dreaming about that one.

Hi Eds

Papers saying Jackson Martinez has agreed to join a European club could this be Arsenal or likely to be AC Milan??

we may end up with no strikers this summer, but its better to get a player who is in for the long run, rather than a player who may or may not work and will only be around for 2-3 years, and will cost a heavy fee.

I would not be overly concerned if we didn't sign a striker. Goalkeeper and ball winning midfielder are far bigger priorities when you look at the squad we have.

Disagree. When you look at our squad as a whole to me it's clear that a clinical finisher is what we lack most. Coquelin has proved he's a more than capable ball winning midfielder, and Ospina hasn't done enough wrong to show us we lack a quality goalkeeper.

It's evident though that we lack a clinical finisher, the strikers in our squad haven't proved that they can bang 30 goals a season in, but players like Giroud have proved to be wasteful in front of goal, regardless of all the top quality work he does elsewhere.

I appreciate what you are saying about a striker, but they can't just be a good finisher. Podolski is a superb finisher, and he's out on loan in a joke league. Why? Because he doesn't give you anything else. So what you're really talking about is top class footballer who is also a great finisher. And if one of those isn't available, I don't think we should sign a striker at all.
As for Ospina I completely disagree. I see evidence every game that he isn't good enough. Poor at coming for crosses, and shot stopping is not top class.
Coquelin was brilliant for half a season out of the 7 seasons that he has been with us. So we pin all our hopes on him, with no backup, and no option to play 2 holding players in big away games? Not for me.

I do agree that an upgrade on our current goalkeeper situation would be lovely, and also signing a quality defensive midfield squad player to replace Flamini should be on our list of transfer targets, I would love us to get players all these for positions I'm not disputing that.

We are talking about proprieties here though and for me singing a 30 goal a season striker is the most important potion for me.

I look at it this way, if we went into the season with our current squad, of the three positions in question which players would be the least effective in their respective position? For me it would be that we don't have an out and out goalscorer.

Yes Coquelin had only had one good half a season but this was his first chance as our dm, and he's taken it with both hands and regardless of the length of time he's been effective you can't take anything away from him. He's more than proved he can play that role for us and be highly effective. As for Ospina for me he's a more than capable gk, and looks far more comfortable than shezza and I feel we would be fine going into the new season with just him if it came down to that

Like I say though, I do agree we need to target all 3 positions but for me a top quality striker is the priority.
