Why does Theo get stick
Great young player with pace who scares defenders hence creating space for others
Well played Theo - constant threat all game
Great game from back 4 and Rosicky
SY4
SY4

Believable28 Unbelievable6

Because he is very inconsistent. But credit where credits due he was exceptional today.

JW

Agree0 Disagree0

He goes missing in games, i think the competition from Ox is making him put in good performances.

Ash

Agree0 Disagree0

Here we go, another good game and all of a sudden the guy can do no wrong :/

Agree0 Disagree0

Because some people just don't have a clue.

example:
the guy above ''another good game and all of a sudden the guy can do no wrong''

slight contradiction,don't you think 'ANOTHER good game'

a very happy gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Theo played well AGAIN today. He is only 22 still, and I think that Theo's problem is that when he has a good game, he is really really good - and so when he has a poor one (which all players are inclined to do at some point) it is just more obvious.

Bentschke

Agree0 Disagree0

Because despite tonight he can still be very frustrating, and we are still only 4th in the league, Walcott is very unpredictable and i still feel him going qould not be a big loss

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not daft enough to suggest he neevr plays well, and my comment is perfectly valid - Theo has one good game and everyone's like 'wow Theo'....yet the next week it'll be all doom and gloom and it wil be another 4 games before he plays half as well again. He's had about 3 games this season where his performance has been worth noting. Last night was one, but coming on here and asking 'why does he get so much stick' is just naive IMO, he gets stick because we know what he's capable of but we all know he performs at best for 1/5 of his capabilities in any one month.

Agree0 Disagree0

The reason being that he is inconsistant and incredibly frustrating. He has great pace but the bottom line is that when given time to think about a pass or cross he tends to either not make a decision at all and get tackled or make the wrong choice. He does have very good games but for me has more bad. Either great or awful. The age issue for me is a bit old hat now. He has been at Arsenal for a fair while now and should I believe have stepped up. Looking at the response from Wenger I am not the only one who is frustrated by him.He has recently become very vocal off the pitch with his opinions as to where the team has been going wrong but does little talking on the pitch.I would love him to be more consistant but not sure that it is in him.

Vertonghen rumours are all true. Could very well get him. I don't think we need him personally...

Ben

Believable12 Unbelievable11

Neither do I. But il take him and let Wenger deal with unhappy subs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed

Agree0 Disagree0

Isn't it funny that a few weeks ago we 'needed' him. Now with Gibbs fit (and playing resonably well - but not 'outstanding) and Santos back, it seems that we don't need him anymore. Funny how injuries really can determine a season and the transfer window!

Bentschke

Agree0 Disagree0

He'll be in the last year of his contract. So the price will drop. If we sell some dead wood in defence and buy Vethongen it would great IMO.

Rennes have confirmed M'villa WILL leave them this summer, we're interested in him but do are city and Madrid, hopefully we can use our French influence to swing it

D

Believable22 Unbelievable5

I would be gutted if he went city... its not like they need him

Agree0 Disagree0

Hopefully NOT. i'd rather see more coquelin who i think will be a lot better player.

iceman

Agree0 Disagree0

Iceman- I actually agree with you....kinda, I'm on board with the not needing
M'villa, I mean, I'd take him if he arrived but i don't see the point in spending £5+ m when we have Frimpong! Who will honestly be great I reckon! Coquelin is too raw for me

Agree0 Disagree0

I would hope transfer money goes elsewhere, I really don't think that with Song and Wilshere returning that we would need M'villa. If we were to bring in a dm I think he should have an aerial pressence.

Agree0 Disagree0

Very overated player. He's miles away from international football level although he plays for France. There's far better player in France playing in middlefield not getting the chance to play.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally with you iceman. People get caught up in all this hype but I've seen enough of the Coq to know we'll be sorted for centre mid soon. He's going to be a Vieira-level player for France IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

But song's contract? (is song's wandering part of wenger philosophy? Would rather a dm that sticks.

i think John Ruddy of norwich would be an excellent keeper to back up and deputise for chessers. I have been to watch 7 norwich games with my partner, she is a canary, and he has been mostly excellent. he is big, got good hands for crosses, leaves his line well and looks to have an air of secure-ness about him. I think he might even make it in englands euro squad as 2nd or 3rd choice. what do you think?

Ricky the S.G

Believable10 Unbelievable20

I agree Ruddy is a good player, but he wouldn't join us to be back up.
It would hinder his career, at his age he needs to be playing.

FAB

Agree0 Disagree0

He never catches though! He is good at blocking shots but he doesn't seem too confident. Nevertheless though I say this only because we are spoilt with Chezzers.

Anybody will have a job to do being his no2 he is imperious this season!

CS

Agree0 Disagree0

Fabianksi is a decent number 2, besides with Lehmann apparently returning as a gk coach, maybe they'll both pick up tips! Mind you aLl shezza needs is some of jens temper

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree. I would actually take him to the Euros if I was the England manager. Him and Stockdale would be my back up to Hart.
But with Rene Alder going on he free this year or McGregor cheap from Rangers id like one of those two. To win leagues and Cl's you need to quality players in each position and that includes Gks.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we're talking solely a 2nd keeper for Arsenal i'd rather see Vorm or Krul if it wouldn't hinder their careers. 2 best keepers this season in my opinion. (Lindegaard isn't too shabby either)

Agree0 Disagree0

Fabs will be off. Just any keeper with class who isn't too pricey. ie Magregor of Rangers. GoonerDan

Agree0 Disagree0

As good as The Arsenal are - no 1st choice keeper is going to leave first-team football to play back-up to an up-and-coming awesome keeper such as Shezza. Good way to end any hopes of playing for England ever.

In the papers today : Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed his interest in signing highly-rated Montpellier midfielder Younes Belhanda this summer.
Eds, is that true and is he good enough to be our much needed CAM ? {Ed002's Note - My understanding is that Arsenal would be interested in Belhanda should he become available.}

Believable15 Unbelievable3

From what I've seen (I could be wrong of course!) Bellhanda isn't a Cam in the way of say....gotze or modric, he's more like KP-Boateng in style not stature by the way, He's around 5"9-5"10 and he's more likely to pick a killer pass or take a long shot than he is to try to beat 2-3 players and execute a cutesy finish, he'd be a great addition to our team though I really believe!

D

Agree0 Disagree0

It was reported barca were interested in him a few days ago. Don't really know much about his talent but could be alright at the asking price of 14m. Looks like Hazard is going to Scum or Man Utd

If the rumors of Podolski and M Suarez coming to Arsenal are true, and with the emergence of the Ox, plus the recent signings of Gervinho and J Campbell, where does that leave Walcott? Is he worth resigning or is it time to sell him this summer?
His desire is to play central forward but if Poldi and Suarez come, he would IMO have lost that chance and with Ox , Gerv , Ryo and Campbell plus the two I just mentioned who I feel can all do a better job on the wings, do we need Wally? If he stays would he still be a starter? Would he be happy staying on as a bench player? I say it's time to part ways and let's turn the page onto the next era.
Now let's smash Newcastle today!
Ezdee

Believable10 Unbelievable11

IF asked my opinion, Wenger will play Walcott slowly into the striker role. Wenger has always stated that Theo's going to end up there. Also, Oxlade will play more as a CAM. That's his actual position.

ATP 9

Agree0 Disagree0

I believe, Wenger will start deployin Theo on the left next season - so that he can develop the skill of cutting in and finishing (much like Henry).

At the moment, providing service to RVP is more crucial.

Billybob452

I struggle to believe we will sign, Podolski and Saurez And Nick Holby.

This is on top of joel campbell and Ryo Miyachi (although they will paly cup games next season).

Billybob452

Agree0 Disagree0

I think, we still need him..Coz IMO he holds the crucial Arsenal Experience as well as he is also in synch with RVP. I reckon his only reason is sufficient to keep him in Arsenal squad.
--Alok

Agree0 Disagree0

Theo will get moved to a strikers role mate, but its a slower transition than Henry was, the ox will play more cam or cover for Gervinho on the left if he's injured/subbed, now this is only a educated guess so please don't start flaming it, but this is how I see our starting 11 next year:

Szczesny
Sagna kos Vermalen (new player)
Song/M'villa Wilshere
Oxlaide-Chamberlain
Podolski Van persie Gervinho/gotze

That's just my opinion, I can't see verthongen as he'd want first team, and he won't displace kos or Verm

D

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would you let a speed merchant leave when at 22 he has his best years in front of him. We will no doubt see him playing down the middle at some stage - and who is to say we will sign the players being mentioned or that we will not revert to 4-4-2 to accommodate.

Don't forget the midfield is pretty much covered Ramsey, Arteta, Rosicky plus those already mentioned - surely we would have to move some players on?

Jakey

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha ha ha ha ha, what a hilarious post considering how the newcastle game went... official man of the match? Theo! Theo! Theo! Theo!

Agree0 Disagree0

Also - Don't forget that Theo is 'home-grown' and would mean we may need to buy another English player who is probably not going to be as good...

Tomas Rosicky has signed a new contract at Arsenal.

IMO great news - this player fits Arsenal well and is a great team player (not one to nag when not being selected for starting 11), enthusiastic about the club, highly creative and experienced.

Ed, do you know how long is this new contract?

asyd {Ed002's Note - I am told one year renewable.}

Believable12 Unbelievable2

So when exactly does it expire Ed?

Sydney Gooner {Ed002's Note - It will expire on June 30, 2013 but is renewable if both parties agree.}

Agree0 Disagree0

So his contract was going to expire at the end of this season if he didn't get this contract extension? If thats the case I really don't understand this policy of Wenger's that only gives 30+ year old players only 1 year contract extensions even if they are decent players. BTW Thanks Ed for replying so quickly

Sydney Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

I understand what your saying Sydney Gooner but I believe that Rosicky has lifted his performances recently because he is playing for a contract. It worked for Dennis Bergkamp for years

As an arsenal fan i want wenger to make 4 signings podolske goetze hazard and vetrongen.but my heart says wenger will not make big money signings again.and our trophy drought goes to 8 years.what do you think about this Ed.? {Ed002's Note - I think two of those four are likely.}

Believable8 Unbelievable5

Any clue as 2 what 2 you think ed is this just a hunch or do you know somthing

Cheers RG {Ed002's Note - I was asked for my thoughts and gave them.}

Agree0 Disagree0

If we got Pod & Hazard we would have a great team and would give any1 a run for there money even Barca I realy think we only need 2 player to be great again

RG {Ed002's Note - I still don't see Hazard joining Arsenal.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Podolski and vertonghen of course, the price of the 2 of them combined would be less than 1 of the other plays. Wenger doesnt buy stars, he makes them. We dont spend big, we SELL big. {Ed002's Note - I would agree.}

Agree0 Disagree0

That's because ed you think hazard will join chelsea
jack the hat {Ed002's Note - No. His constant speaking to the press and his recent statement that a move to England would be a stepping stone to Spain will make several clubs think twice about making an offer.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think your 100% right ed.
i think if we can get him for about 27 million and get 3 good years out of him,i would have no problem with selling him on for 60 million,but the question we have to ask our self's is he that good and is it worth the risk?
what do you think ed is he worth the risk?
jack the hat {Ed002's Note - I don't see him moving to Arsenal in any case, and would Arsenal want someone around the club who is constantly talking to the press about other clubs?}

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont see us needing vertonghen of corse he would improve the squad but I would rather improve in other places for me Kos & verm are our first choice CB's PM4 is a good 3rd Chocie then we have song, miquel and JD for cover
Hazard would be a great player for any team but the way he whore's himself would be a big isuse for anyone and eveything about the transfer from the fee to the way the player acts say Arsenal will not go for him
I still think we only need 2 players but I dont think one of the needs to be a defender

RG

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the Ed on this. Hazard is blatantly flirting with Barca/Real Madrid.

I think the Zidane connection could mean Real Madrid is a likely destination - although they have several attacking midfielders as it stands.

I am surprised the Italian teams are not after him - with Inter Milan needing a player like Hazard at the moment. {Ed002's Note - Whilst Real Madrid or Barcelona remain his preferred destination PSG, Chelsea, Spurs, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are all interested to one degree or another. I said over the summer that I would not be surprised to see Manchester United through their hat in to the ring with Hazard as well. Chelsea have maintained a long-term interest but one particularly influential party at the club sees the player as having an attitude problem (primarily related to previously well-publised issues). However, Chelsea have recently discussed the player with Lille and a firm offer by Chelsea is still a possibility. Arsenal spoke with Lille before the last summer window and, I am told, proposed a "derisory number" and suggested taking the player would be a risk. Bayern Munich apparently remain very keen on Hazard but the player is seemingly not interested in a move to Germany. Inter would find the transfer fee too high and their only hope would be a part-ownership deal with some cash and a player or two moving to LIlle. Spurs are interested but may need the price to drop significantly to make a move viable. PSG would have the money available but again the player does not want such a move. I really don't see Hazard moving to Liverpool, Juventus, AC Milan or Arsenal for that matter, although with other clubs frustrated at his questionable attitude means it is getting harder to tell where he will end up so a move to pretty much anywhere cannot be completely ruled out. His constant speaking to the press and his recent statement that a move to England would be a stepping stone to Spain will make several clubs think twice about making an offer.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I object to the 8 years without trophy comment because Wenger says coming 4th is a trophy (i wonder what coming 3rd is then - 2 trophies, maybe?)

Personally, I welcome this news. I think he is a good player, and the only reason he has ever struggled at Arsenal has come down to injuries. Now he has a had a good run in the team, he has shown that he can still do it at the top level and hopefully he can for another year or maybe more.

RVP will be gone during the summer. Football fans have got to grow up and stop believing in players "loving the club and fans".

Arsenal have lost a number of key players over the past few years and now RVP will leave for Barcelona or Man City.

Arsenal to sign Podolski as a replacement and Goetze

Believable7 Unbelievable23

Assuming Arsenal finish 3rd or 4th, offer favourable terms to RVP & make 2 or 3 significant signings, I believe RVP will stay. He only has to look at City, where Clichy & Nasri are often on the bench & could end up winning nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

I just love you people!. you seem to know what players are going to do without knowing them speaking to them or writing to them your full of s**t.oh, on top of that, some how you know for shaw that Podolski & Goetze are REPLACMENTS when was it you spoke wenger and the board. spud are we?

Agree0 Disagree0

Nothing like a bit of optimism first thing in the morning is there, even RVP's wife came out and said believe none of the press, believe RVP, so if he says he's off then, then he is, personally i cant see it, Man City have successfully ruined the careers of every Arsenal player to go there, and also cant see RVP uprooting his kids to move abroad, so all in all not gonna happen

N.Wales gunner

Agree0 Disagree0

It amazes me how so many people forget that in RVP's case the decision is bigger than football. He has a settled life here with bushra and his son.

I think he wants to stay - and would only leave he thought the ship was sinking. Still any contract would be 1-2 years as oppose to a 4 years contract.

Podolski is in fact a longer-term replacement.

Billybob452

Agree0 Disagree0

Very true

utd forever!!!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

RvP would never go to Man City let alone now we have solved most of our problems at the back;

1) Got solid keeper at last
2) Got decent 2 CB partnership
3) Sagna back

With 10 games left it is still quite possible we could overhaul Tottenham, which has to be the focus for RvP. Not buggering off to City where as somebody rightly points out, all our cast off players go to ruin their footballing careers. Lol good luck to them...

CS

Agree0 Disagree0

Rvp has been an arsenal fan since his childhood. he is on par with henry to become a legend among gooners. your doubt is sickening

wht are you toughts on:
Iker Munian, Athletico Bilbao? {Ed002's Note - Muniain was touted around the clubs on behalf of Bilbao - and the two clubs in England that were approached were Chelsea and Manchester United. The asking price was 40M euros. They won't get it. I don't think clubs would risk half of that on a player who is young and has shown himself to be pretty immature. Roma interest is still there but perhaps an eventual move to Barcelona beckons.}

Believable6 Unbelievable3

I know i probably won't get a lot of people agreeing with me on this, but from what i have seen of him, he isn't worth anywhere near 40m euros. He isn't anything special, he is a good player with some pace on him, but the comparisons to Messi that i have seen are stupid, he isn't anywhere near as good as Messi and never will be, still a good player but nowhere NEAR a 40mil euro player.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Arsenal are favorites to land Vertonghen this summer. Apparently he was a guest at the Emirates for the Milan match and was well impressed, and wants to make the move!

North Carolina Gooner.

Believable22 Unbelievable2

Hope its true, unstoppable defence:

RB: Sagna, Jenkinson, Koscielny, Yennaris, Coquelin
CB: Vermaelen, Koscielny, Vertonghen, Mertesacker, Djourou
LB: Gibbs, Santos, Vertonghen, Coquelin, Vermaelen

So many players who can play across the back 4 will make injuries less vital.
Nick.

Agree0 Disagree0

As long as you're not serious about Djourou!

Agree0 Disagree0

That is an excessive number of defenders....

Billybob452

How is that an unstoppable defence? You basically added one more player who by the way would be warming bench for Kos and Verm, we leak goals and next year we will leak goals!
