Say Cesc and Nasri both left......

IMO this would not be great but it would not be a total disaster as everyone is making out. If they left we could change our formation to 4-4-2 which would provide faster more direct football. They way we play just now(4-3-3) is more suited to LaLiga as the game is a lot slower in Spain.
In the EPL it is much faster paced and much tougher. I think if we were to play with 2 fast paced wingers and 2 sturdy central midfielders it would work much better. Our game would become more direct and we would also be a lot tougher.

A midfield of: Walcott-Song-Wilshere-Mata*

or something like that would provide us with fast paced energy and a bit of a physical presence

Although I would stick to 4-3-3 for Champions League.

Opinions are welcomed. Thanks

Believable13 Unbelievable8

Epl fast paced? lol....i have been watching la liga for the past 3 years...mainly due to my girlfriend being a sevilla fan...and trust me they are really fast paced. i even remember sevilla beating arsenal in a champions league group game.

Oh and incase you did not watch last seasons champions league final...it was soo fast paced that man utd lost track of the ball..

stop being an epl glory whore...give credit where its due. EPL is cash rich...more sustainable model for all clubs...thats the only positive aspect.

Agree0 Disagree0

You clearly can't watch LaLiga because Barca will pass it about for 10-15 mins going no where until they find the killer pass. LaLiga is about passing flowing football, EPL is more direct and fast paced but is also a lot tougher. Our game we play now is more suited to LaLiga.

And in the CL final ManUtd were passed off the park and couldn't get a touch of the ball.

PS. I support Arsenal but I actually like LaLiga better.

Agree0 Disagree0

4 4 2
or
3 5 2

Agree0 Disagree0

Well La Liga is not slow paced but it's a 2 horse race or in this case a 1 horse race lol while the premier league offers a lot more competition, it's more emotional, it's got a lot more to offer than La Liga which if wether you accept it or not the winner is already decided before the season begins, depending on who buys well, Barcelona or Real Madrid, and the odd team that wins it once every 10 years, and the gap between 2 and 3 is usually massive, not only in points, but in goals, so La Liga in a point of view is weaker that the EPL but you do have a fantastic team that at the moment are or were unbeatable almos in Barcelona. So judging a team performance against Barcelona is an unfair and unrealistic way of judging how good a league or any league is.
And one more thing, had Barcelona been playing in the Premier league they would not walk past so many teams like they do in Spain, looking like they are just accepting fate, here everybody fights, from first to last. That is the difference between the leagues, anybody can beat anybody on the day, and i guarantee you that you can't say the same about the La liga

Apart from the great Barcelona when English teams play Spanish teams Normally the English team wins.

I do agree that It would not be a disaster to lose both of them however I do not believe we should sign another striker why do we not play like this?

Szczesny

Sagna
Koscielny
Samba
Vermaelen

Gervinho
Song
Wilshere
Arshavin

Van Persie
Walcott

I heard on Talksport from Adrian Durham saying he had good sources saying that Gary Cahill and his agent really want to come to Arsenal but we haven't made any enquiries. Any idea if this is true and what the latest updates are on Cahill Ed?

{Ed022's Note - From what I know an official bid has not been made by Arsenal. This was also backed up by Owen Coyle given Arsenal and any other club a two week deadline to make a bid. That was about a week ago. Its looking less likely now as we're on tour and Ivan Gazidis is also out in Asia so no deals will be done til we're back I expect.}

Believable11 Unbelievable6

I believe no bid because Bolton have priced him out of the market. 17m is way way over the top. Go abroad and get twice the tallent for same money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Adrian Durham said that about Scott Parker not Cahill

Agree0 Disagree0

Actually mate I was listening and it was Scotty Parker I just wish arsene would get these boys in so we can prepare

I rate nasri highly and want him to sign a new deal, however I cannot for the life of me understand why wenger would keep him and allow him to leave next season on a bosman. Is he deluded and thinks we will win the league or champions league and Samir will beg to stay???

We are going to lose potentially 20million quid purely out of stubbornness I would want to see him in an arsenal shirt next season only if he signs a new deal if not take the money and get somebody else in ....flamini, hleb, Reyes the list is endless leave arsenal at your peril and you will have a lifetime of regrets at how lucky you once were playing for such a great team. As the saying goes you don't know what you had until it's gone.

Ps get alex from Chelsea, mata from Valencia, benzemar from Madrid and let's. Bring back the glory days

Steve - feel free to comment

Believable20 Unbelievable5

It makes no sense to turn down 20m for nasri
It's stubbornness on the managers part like it is for his lack of buying
Can't believe the board will support him on nasri can't afford to

{Ed022's Note - If Nasri doesn't sign a new contract or leaves to join another club by August 31st Ed040 will streak naked down Holloway Road. Wenger will not let 20m go down the drain. Not gonna happen. He will sign or go by the end of the window.}

I'm the Steve that has been posting frequently here recently. To avoid confusion could you please change your signature/sign off to something different please. Don't mean to sound arrogant or anything.

Agree0 Disagree0

No problem

Ledders

Agree0 Disagree0

Wengers calling his bluff. If wont sign will be involved in a late deal to any takers abroad.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its called contract negotiations. He will either sign or go by 31 Aug .

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree with you on the Nasri situation, I think Wenger is deluded if he thinks Nasri will sign a new contract, i also think he should let Fabregas leave, who is clearly unhappy at Arsenal, but i think the reason he don't want to let them go, cause he knows we wont get anyone else in, something fishy is going on at our great club, kronke is not the right man, or he should get rid of everyone else on the board, bring back the no 1 negotiator in D Dein, and invite Usmanov on the board, i think its ridiculous that hes not on the board considering he owns 30%, as much as id love to see Arsenal sign Mertesacker, Cahill. Benzema, Mata, I don't think it will happen, instead Wenger will buy 21yr old kids, trouble is with Wenger is he runs Arsenal like he owns it, he could sign Cahill, Samba, Benzema, but prefers signing 16-21 yr old players, thinks glory is getting in the top 4, im sorry , but i think its time for him to go, as he wont change hes mind, I don't think that will ever happen, while he makes lots of money for the greedy board, Gooners, why is fabregas wanting to leave so badly ?, why is Nasri ?, next season it will be Van Persie, and so on, i think the whole club needs sorting out from top to bottom, from medics to the board, otherwise my beloved Arsenal will be just a feeder club to the more ambitious teams who think winning a trophy is more of success, than finishing in the top 4, something I just don't see happening this season.Wenger we trust, for now, but that is draining away very slowly.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with your point but you have to see the point Wenger is making, he doesn't want to strenghten another EPL league with Nasri, and since the only interested sides come from the EPL i can understand the reason why he would be reluctant to sell, had it been an Italian or Spanish team looking for Nasri i'm almost sure he would have been gone by now or at least i think :)

Has anyone else heard anything about a possible deal for Subotic involving cash plus Bendtner? I got it off a forum so am dubious but would be a welcome signing in my opinion? Glad of any news

Paul

Believable17 Unbelievable6

It is true wenger has given permission to borussia to speak to bedntner but borussia cannot afford him outright and dunno what they can offer in wages to tempt him. But i'm sure if they get him a deal with player plus around 10m seems realistic to get subotic as they rate bendtner at 9m euros

Agree0 Disagree0

Last i heard hamburg were interested but said it would take a miracle for them to get bendtner (im guessing they mean the asking price and wages are a problem) but dortmund had said they were ot interested in the player.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the deal will be involving vidal, not subotic... I could be wrong though

Agree0 Disagree0

Arturo vidal plays for bayer leverkusen

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes i have heard about it to
and tath wenger is planing a 12 mill + bendtner bid

Agree0 Disagree0

I would think it's a possibility as we would be replacing a wantaway deadwood for a fantastic CB, experience or not the guy is good and if takes a few months to adapt so be it, as nobody can guarantee that either Cahill or Samba would adapt to our style of play any faster that Subotic.
In fact i would take Subotic ahead of either of those 2 as i think he would offer a lot more than either of them.

Hi Ed, I had a quick question while I kill some time at work...
If you had to bet your own money, who else do you think will be joining and leaving the Emirates?
And do you think Vela will be used as Bendtner's replacement instead of buying someone? thanks

{Ed022's Note - After his sumptious finish today against a Malaysia XI Vela showed us once again the talent he clearly has. However, I feel Vela requires week in week out starting action which he clearly wont get at Arsenal. This is a shame as I think he's a good player who would flourish given the chance. As for who else will leave, I see Squillaci going as soon as a CB is brought in. Denilson should also go with Wilshere and Rambo in front of him in the pecking order.}

Believable11 Unbelievable3

The fact that Denilson subbed on at half time and then off 16 minutes laters seems to say a lot. I would think he is on his way out.

Agree0 Disagree0

My thoughts is that denilson will be sold and vidal will be brought in

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsene won't sell Squilacci after just one season. Wenger is too arrogant for that. He'd rather stick to his (awful) signing than admit he did an error last season when bringing him in.

Agree0 Disagree0

Squillacci was bought as a 4th or 5th cb, you are not going to have all wc players.

just heard from a source inside fulham that hangeland is a done deal. He'll be our best paid defender.

Believable12 Unbelievable17

As per my rumour left at 9.10 this morning I have heard the same. Done deal. V.good signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope this is confirmed : )

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed will you check the IPs of these 2 and see if they're remotely related? There's nothing in any kind of media, mainstream or otherwise about AFC/Hangeland... And nothing my 'sources' know of either.

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance. Also The Verminator is the highest paid defender at AFC.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have no inside sources or anything as such...neither have i come across anything remotely close to hangeland in the news
i chat with a few gooners in london and they haven't heard a whisper either...

what's more surprising about the rumour is him being the best played player dispite it being well known that Arsenal have a very rigid pay structure and i find it hard to believe that a new guy coming in (who is not even a marquee signing) will be the best played defender in the team

Agree0 Disagree0

This is a complete load of rubbish. Wenger is only after Jagielka

Agree0 Disagree0

Know we were heavily linked with him in previous transfer windows, and I'd be pretty happy to see him with us, so hope its true.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't understand why we would be interested in Jagielka, overated in IMO Bring in Cahill & use Bartley as back up. He had good reviews from both loan spells. What do you think Ed?

{Ed022's Note - Honestly, in my opinion I think they're both very similar in height, stature and technical ability. I think they are both good defenders who would work well with Vermaelen.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I posted the rumour this morning. I have heard we have agreed a fee but I have heard nothing about him either agreeing terms or certainly nothing that he will be highest paid defender.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cahill and Jagielka hmmmmm i'm sorry but i'm not convinced of either of them, there are better CB on offer at the same or a cheaper, buying british is always too expensive, they are always overrated and almost never live to expectations.
There are few players in my opinion from the Uk which i would class as world class
but even those you'll find better at half the price in some other countries.
The EPL provides the best league in the world and the most exciting but it's mostly due to foreign world class players moving here that the so called World class british players which are too few.

Arsenal are set to raid Rangers for the services of Nikica Jelavic. Arsene also scouting Fraser Fyvie of Aberdeen and Jamie Ness and Gregg Wylde of Rangers

You heard it HERE :)

Believable12 Unbelievable27

So Wenger's going to go in for players, in the SPL... From teams who wouldn't finish in the top half of the EPL?

Agree0 Disagree0

Nikica Jelavic Is Good

Agree0 Disagree0

Rangers are a good team, would get into the top ten easily. And the aberdeen youngster is a rising star.

Agree0 Disagree0

No he aint.......thats why he plays in scotland.......for rangers.......

Agree0 Disagree0

I posted yesterday about Jelavic. He's truly world class. Jamie Ness could be a very good player in the future, however, Arsenal have loads of youngsters equally as good and better. Greg Wylde is an atrocious footballer. Got a game for Rangers at the end of the season due to injuries, but he was generally terrible. He won't get in the Gers team next year, let alone Arsenal. I'd be shocked if Wenger had even heard of him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Look mate, rangers and arsenal have a close relationship. loads of gers fans also support arsenal, and vice versa, so show some respect. Your ignorance is demonstrated by your lack of knowledge on Jelavic.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is it that english people are so arragont about there leagues. Scotland lacks money but quite a high percentage of your league is made up of scottish players and especially before u starting wasting large sums on foreigners ur leagues best teams had about 5 or 6 scots so give it an other chance

Agree0 Disagree0

This Guy hear is talking sense , Jelavic is indeed a class player

Agree0 Disagree0

Im a rangers fan and i support arsenal over any English team but the fans need to stop being ignorant about top spl players, their team couldnt win the carling cup jelavic not for sale and especially not for 8m when donkets like cahill are valued at 18m

Agree0 Disagree0

They are all the same scotland 2team lge england 6 team lge at best spain 2 team lge

Agree0 Disagree0

Jamie Ness & Gregg Wylde could develop into real quality, look great for Rangers, i know its only the SPL but can already see they stand out

Agree0 Disagree0

As a Celtic fan (Arsenal my English team - Charlie Nicholas) I'd luv to see the back of Jellyfish.

He's a proper menace, big, strong and got goals in him. Not the type of player you'd link with Arsenal like but as an option for the games versus smaller clubs he won't get bullied about and he'll defo chip in with some goals and assists.

What's he gonna cost 7m max? They'd tear Wenger's hand off up to the elbow, and he's better than say Doyle - who'd cost bout same price.

Shaunybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I am a Rangers and Arsenal fan. I am a season ticket holder at ibrox and i would just like to say that i thought Gregg wylde was awful, players worked him out after the first few games (kick the ball down the line and run like ****) easy to stop him. I think both teams need to hurry up and start taking in some players before we are left with nowt.

In today's press Chelski is being linked for a 15mil move for de rossi of roma, as essien is injuried-

He is the sort of player I would love to see in the centre of midfield for arsenal (a captain/leader as well...)

For around 15mil, plus a few other key signings would make a huge difference I think to the arsenal squad.
But I don't think wenger would sign him.

Looks like arsenal might miss out on cahill as well- another one , 'who got away' for perhaps for a few more quid.
Where's the ambition ?

Believable18 Unbelievable8

Couldnt agree more about De Rossi. Mid 20's, huge international & champions league experience. 15 mil is a bargain.
But no, instead we hold on to Denilson and let one of our rivals sign him up. The life of an Arsenal fan. Like why are we signing 16 year old sweedish kids. Have we learnt nothing over the last 6 years. KIDS WIN NOTHING

Agree0 Disagree0

Kids like Wojech in goal who United have just spent 20m on someone similar, kids like Fabregas, kids like Wilshere??

Nothing wrong with signing up all talented kids, but we just need the blend of youth and experience to be correct. In the past seasons it's been focused on youth, this summer I feel experience will be added.

De Rossi sounds good, but he has recently comitted himself to Roma has he not. If he were available you can be sure there would be a big big queue.
Stiggy

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats exactly my point about kids you dummy.

Wojech, fabregas and wilshere have won a total of zero trophies combined between them. Throw in whoever you want on the Arsenal to try and support your argument and the answer is still the same.

KIDS WIN NOTHING

Agree0 Disagree0

"You Dummy" - How old are you? 11?

I love how people like you are experts, do you remember the drab days of George Graham, the unsuccessful 80's before that. Now we find ourselves in a far better position.

The thing that annoys me is people like you playing championship manager who think its as easy to get someone of that stature.

All Arsenal fans find this a frustrating time, however, I think Arsene Wenger has earned the privilege of getting the whole summer to do his business rather than being hung drawn and quartered in early July.

A blend of talented young players and experience does win trophies. We just need slightly more experience in 2 or 3 areas, not a major sell out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Iv said for a long time replace Fabregas with De Rossi and let with the 20million left over get Mata. Lose Cesc and get those 2 Good deal to me Ramsey and Nasri can play the Cesc role

Agree0 Disagree0

Hasn't Roma been taken over recently? And if so wouldn't selling your best player for just 15 million be a terrible move without even considering the fact that De Rossi is loyal to Roma and is the next likely captain after Totti.

Hi Ed
I used to live in Denmark when I was younger. And according to an old Danish school friend, Arsenal and West Brom are interseted in Kenneth Zahore. Arsenal are also looking to sign Mathias J rgensen as a part to Vermaelen. And that if Arsenal sell Bendtner, the will put in a bid for the Belgium striker Bj rn Vleminckx as his replacement. Although I have heard of all these players, I've heard no links over here at all. Ed have you heard any of these? And are any likely? Or even good enough? Thanks {Ed001's Note - I don't know how good they are, but I have heard of the interest in Zahore, a number of English clubs have had him watched.}

Believable8 Unbelievable13

Vleminckx has singed for FC Brugge a few months ago.

Agree0 Disagree0

I live in Denmark and am a fan of FC Copenhagen, where both Zohore and Jorgensen (Zanka) play, and to be completely honest neither player is ready for the EPL. Zanka is definitely a talent but he still makes simple mistakes, especially with long balls (which would be a problem in the EPL), and Zohore has never really lived up to the hype. Cant see him moving on yet after the performances hes put in this last year.
Having said that, Zanka is exactly the type of player Wenger signs so I wouldnt rule it out....

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks guys. I'd never seen vleminckx play, and only heard of him a few days ago. I've heard tonnes of rumours coming from Denmark, mainly from Esbjerg FB. The two that I keep hearing is that Soren Rieks will be going to West Brom and Mathias Jorgensen to Arsenal

Hello Arsenal fans, this is Angus again, i am here in Asia as you all know.
Today's main news:

-Arsenal v Malaysia XI today 1.45pm (UK time) which i am grateful to have tickets for, so i shall do a review of the whole game after, for you Arsenal fans.

-Burger town(Hamburg) seem they are intrested in Bendtner, and are willing to pay the asking price of 12m

-Whilshere & Bakary hit out at press by stating Nasri & Cesc will be gunners next year

-Chelsea are thinking about a 18m bid in for Gary Cahill

-Mert is just linked at the moment and nothing else

Sorry, if some of that news is online, but it is pretty early at the moment, news will be flying around soon enough, and with me being at the game, i can see how Nasri is playing. I will tell you the formation etc as well

Time for a small lesson, and into the mind of AW and there accountact so let us begin.

Transfer budget = £30m

Players out to raise funds (without nari + fab)

Bendtner = £9-12m
Almunia = £1m
Clichy = £7m

possibly

denilson = £5m
Fabregas = £35
Nasri = £22m

Minimum £47m
Max £112m

Okay time for some player to come in (its just like football manager

Minimum

Gervinho £10.6m
Cahill £17m
Mata £20m

= 47.6m im sure we have a spare 600k lying around in the draws at the emirates somewhere.

MAX

Gervinho £10.6m
Cahill £17m
Mata £20m
Benzema £27m
Parker £7m (move to the wilshere role playing next to song, giving wilsere the fabregas role)

£30m for the Jan transfer window.

Obviously this is a mixture of my own thoughts on the matter and various other sources (newspaper, sites, twitter etc)

Peaves

Believable15 Unbelievable19

Wilshere is no where near good enough for that role he is sh*t

Agree0 Disagree0

You make it sound so easy.

Agree0 Disagree0

What happend to the added 25mil from the new properties??

Agree0 Disagree0

Apart from the signing of parker that i dont agree with, this is perfectly reasonable to assume. Wilshere in an attacking role is absolutely fine, the boy loves to attack and has good intuition. Mata @ 20m tho..if he does go somewhere, i think it will be for more.

Agree0 Disagree0

What clown said Wilshere is no where near good for the role JW is one of the PL's rawest talents in years, and shows it by effortlessly transferring his skills onto the national skill. He is better then Fab was at the same age and appears to have a bit more desire in certain tackles. I love Cesc but i think we can not say his boots wont be filled unless its proven to be the case

Agree0 Disagree0

You need to include wages into that bill as well

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2011 04:00:24
Going to apply common sense with the Mata situation. He played in the U21 championships and will probably be back late to pre-season. The club will always say they want to keep but im sure the week he arrives back at his club one of two things will happen. 1) Will declare his ambition of playing at the highest level/new challenge - Either way its basiclly goading Arsenal to firm up there intrest. 2) The player will stay for that customary "last season" before eventually moving on and with Valencia's financal woes im sure a bid of £20mil+ will see them part with mata.

Downing, well he would rather go liverpool and I would rather somebody else come and at £18mil that money could easily get us Cahil ( I have no idea the sitch with him, fill me in if you can). The Samba has slowed down (Pardon the pun) , it seems like Wenger has at least decided to go with Mertasacker or Cahil so thats the CB sorted. Barca did have a tasty offer for Fabregas on the table a few weeks back but the deal was somwhere in the reigon of £30mil + Thiago BUT they tried to sneak a buy back clause in there (no doubt to avoid a repeat of this fabregas situation in years to come) so in the event that he AND nasri stay then dont expect any flair players 2 join AFC. If either leaves then expect Mata or Valbuena to follow. Strikers.....well Bendtner is going, and that can only be good and his place in the squad will be replaced with Vela so dont be dissapointed if no other strikers are signed.

Believable15 Unbelievable6

Apparently chilski are now in for cahill... dont know wether thats just to insure he doesn't go to arsenal or they actually want him..basically though its arsenal trying to squeeze the last few pence of a deal instead of going ahead and doing it.. how many players have we missed out on in the last few years doing this and we still have not learnt the lesson

The Night Doctor..

Agree0 Disagree0

When you say 'apparently wenger has decided to go with mertesacker or cahill' - well, where did you get this info from ? You shouldnt assume that what is written on here is a reflection of what wenger is doing. He might not buy cahill, samba, mertesacker, vertonghen or any other defender that has been mentioned in the last 2 months. Doesnt mean that who he might or might not buy will be better, or worse, than those players - but the point is, nobody knows anything of what wenger is doing.
