Hi ed, just a cuple of questions If you got some time.
Is rugani still an option?
Is there any interest in mustafi and xhaka, and If there is could you tell us the clubs which are interested?

{Ed002's Note - (a) No. (b) Might be offered around but right now no. (c) No.}

13 Jun 2018 22:31:58
I think we will have a problem moving those two. We would have to take a massive hit.

I think everyone accepts taking a huge hit is inevitable if we want to move anyone on who has under achieved Steve mate. I think that's pretty much the norm on a any player who doesn't work out.
The alternative is to be stubborn let them rum down their contracts and leave for free eventually.
Make them available and take the highest bid is the sensible option if you want them gone.
I know some fans still want Xhaka but I've heard little support for Mustafi, i'd be chuffed with getting half our money back on either.

Personally I’m not a massive fan of Mustafi but I feel that with Kos being out indefinitely with an injury which has been ongoing for several seasons now it would be a brave move for the new manager to let our only current/ fit/ established CB leave this summer.

@Jack Gooner - We should have Sokratis, plus cover in Holding and Mavrapanos. In respect of Mustafi, I believe if he is sold, he will be replaced, so we will have 4 CB's, plus Chambers who is still at the club. However, I would sell him as I believe he simply isn't good enough.
I like the look of the young Turkish CB, Soyuncu. However, I have concerns about going into the season with only one experienced CB, Sokratis, and three inexperienced CB's. The saving grace is that Soyuncu could play in a back four with extremely experienced defenders; Lichtsteiner, Sokratis and Monreal. The problem could possibly occur when Sokratis doesn't play, as the CB pairing would be both young and inexperienced.

Mustafi has been extremely poor what is the point of an experienced CB if the only experience he has to offer is more of what he's shown already?
He can't organise or displine himself let alone help others and if anything he sets a bad example to who ever he plays next to.
Much like Mertesacker he is keen to criticise and blame others for his own mistakes rather than put his hand up and say " my bad "
Personally I'd rather see a couple of youngsters who take responsibility than an experienced responsibility dodger.
On what we've seen from him there is no value in keeping Mustafi what so ever, i'd rather play Elneny at CB if push came to shove because he's a much better player to learn from in my opinion.

While i'm happy to see mustaffi go, i do think, he actually went backwards, not through lack of abilty ( he can tackle, strong in the air and brave ) but through the sloppyness that spread under wenger. He lost concentration, lost awareness and his positional play was awful. They are all things that can be coached into a player. If he goes, great but if he doesnt, there is still a chance, if we start concentrating on defending in training.

I think mustafi was poor from the beginning, only a few games last season in a back three looked just okay nothing more. Koscielny is injured and not the youngest player anymore. Arsenal need a real CB with a very good positional play. Sokratis is not the type we need but far better than mustafi. Lichtsteiner is also not the answer. That's my opinion.

Correct me if i'm wrong Lemtin, wasnt mustaffi part of the team/ defence that started the season before last that went 23 games unbeaten, when he played or was it his first 23 games in an arsenal shirt and never lost. Not defending him but like a few he made a good start.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jun 2018 06:00:35
I think it was the first 23 games in an Arsenal Shirt, didn't we lost the first game against Liverpool? I think we started the game with a pairing of Holding and Chambers. Mustafi was bought end of August. I give the most credit to a pairing of Santi and Le Coqu that we were 23 games unbeaten. We had a lot of draws which resulted often beacause of poor defending.

Ok Lemtin, i remember him doing well but like i said, if we sell him for decent money, great, if he stops and is helped by emery, great.

Hi Ed's

I've seen today that us and "several clubs" have been linked with Gelson Martins. Any info on whether we're favourites or else who is.

Many thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Arsenal have been interested in Gelson Martins for some time but he has not been first choice by far - if interest in others doesn't get anywhere we will see. His representatives are negotiating with another side.}

13 Jun 2018 18:53:19
Ed, can you tell us who are the other options for that spot at the moment?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any change in the options - it seems to be as before.}

13 Jun 2018 19:22:56
Thanks Ed.

Type I saw somewhere that he had a signed a pre-contract with Benfica in anticipation of being released from his contract. I don't know how true that is.

Who's the other side?

{Ed002's Note - Juventus.}

Ed001 hopefully you can be more of a help, do you have any idea of where Leno is moving?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no sorry.}

13 Jun 2018 10:56:06
Ed001 or Ed002 both of you have said Leno is moving somewhere and with many reports saying is arsenal, can we get some information about him please?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He is a goalkeeper, and reasonably tall.}

13 Jun 2018 12:39:07
Lool come on ed, do u know if he’s joining arsenal? Would be surprised because u said he won’t consider a move if no CL football.

The fact we are in advanced talks would suggest otherwise Dags. As long as they can agree a fee the it looks like Leno and Torreira are Arsenal bound :)

Hello all eds and my fellow gooners
Reports coming out of Germany that arsenal are very close to agreeing terms with Bernd Leno, and this is conforming to what ed002 said that we want a GK and also that Bayer Leverkusen have signed a replacement from Frankfurt, would love to see Leno in the red and white. Can any ed002 confirm this? Or is this just the daily rumour mill? Would others be happy if he comes? Looks like the real deal. What do the eds think of him? Thanks for all the info
COYG.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - You will never see Leno in red and white.}

13 Jun 2018 12:18:32
Because he is a goalkeeper?

He in did give some info here, why we expect or demand to have everything chowed up?
Also, this is a banter page, isn't it?

One has to wonder how the looming Griezmann decision could affect Arsenal. This is pure speculation but if Griezmann opts to make the switch to the Nou Camp it will surely be for an astronomical fee (perhaps Atleti is preparing for his exit which is why they already snatched up Lemar) . Now Lemar doesn't fill the void left at striker if/ when Griezmann departs and there was heavy interest in Lacazette by Atleti before he signed with Arsenal (correct me if I'm wrong but Lyon and Atleti had a fee agreed upon but could not navigate around a transfer ban? ) . if Arsenal could recoup the fee, or sell him for more than what they paid, for Lacazette by selling to Atleti maybe they go after Malcom or even Dembele, either of which would probably fit better into this side than Lacazette does with PEA now here.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Without Lacazette Arsenal only have one good striker. Laca and PEA are both clearly excellent players and selling one would be a huge mistake if we're serious about breaking back into top 4 and winning the Europa.

PEA is also comfortable on the left wing which fills a big void as we still don't have any solid wingers except up and coming Nelson. Front 4 of Laca/ PEA/ Mkhi/ Ozil backed up by 2 deep mids including Torreira and Ramsey (? ) is mouthwatering.

13 Jun 2018 07:22:01
Selling Lacazette would be very very stupid.
Chelsea - Morata, Giroud,
Man Utd - Lukaku, Rashford (& Sanchez can play striker) .
Man City - Aguero, Jesus

Arsenal - Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Lacazette!

You can't rely on one good striker.

Agree1 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 10:02:58
Spurs - Kane and?
Liverpool - don’t even have a traditional “striker”
‘16 Leicester City - Vardy +?

Arsenal would be just fine with PEA and Welbeck.

Agree0 Disagree4

13 Jun 2018 11:10:57
Totally agree Q, 2 into one won't go and trying make it do so will cause more problems than it solves.
I doubt very much Emery will play 4 forwards next season no matter how many posters try and find a way of getting all our attackers on the pitch at once in the real world this isn't going to happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 12:38:35
Liverpool and Spur are very vulnerable with there lack of options on top.

Son makes a good alternativ for Spurs, but not great.

Liverpool have been lucky that Firmino has been fit most of the season. If not they would have to play Solanke. (Firmino, by the way is a typical striker supported by two inward forwards, wich means he sometime fall back into a false nine. )

Leicester played 4-4-2 and had Okazaki/ Ulloa, who complemented Vardy perfect and had different skills according to the game they played.

Anyway it makes no sense to sell Laca if not replaced by a different type if that is prefered. Rather sell Welbeck and get a Giroud/ Llorente/ Austin type of player (tall, strong, leathal in the box when pressing for a goal)

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 12:55:45
The point was you don’t need two strikers of such quality to compete in the premier league. And the whole thought process of selling Lacazette would be to replace him with a winger who could bag double digit goals.

Agree0 Disagree1

13 Jun 2018 16:52:52
Pea and Lacasette are the wrong age and far too good to play back up.
Pea is a Rolls Royce striker why turn him into a porche wide player to accommodate a poche striker? That makes no sense at all.
Pea will not rotate and will make his feelings clear when he ain't happy just ask Dortmound.
The reason we were able to get him above more successful teams is because of his temperament which scared many potential buyers off.

Don't make Pea angry, you wouldn't like him when he's angry :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 18:01:34
PEA seems quite accommodating of lacazette, I would rather try and find a way to fit them both in and if one gets injured we still have the other, imagine if you sold laca and PEA suffered a bad injury early on, welbeck sole striker for the whole season, I barely trust him to put his shoes on the right feet.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2018 21:48:13
You could play Ozil behind Pea and Lacasette as a front 3 but I think we will have to wait and see how Emery wants to set us up before we really have idea what and who we need.
I personally think he's going to Want to make us much more difficult to beat first and foremost.
