Edd,

Any more signings on the horizon?

NW4 Gooner

Believable6 Unbelievable20

If you read wengers comments it suggests no defender will be bought, if he isn't going to buy a top class, strong defender he should leave now and stop wasting his time on believing we are defensively strongseriuosly can he not see

edd which players do you think eventually start for arsenal. i think miguel and bartley will be great players in a couple of season, jenkinson has impressed and already looks better than eboue. and i would sell arshavin and replace him with ryo myiachi the lad has a great work rate. frimpong is a great player really strong and a good tackler. edd could you rate and tell me which players will make it or be sold.

miguel ignasi 6ft4
kyle bartley 6ft3
carl jenkinson 6ft1
ryo myiachi 6ft
emmanuel frimpong 6ft
armand traore 6ft
pedro botelho 6ft 2
samuel galindo 6ft 4

{Ed022's Note - Firstly, I love your enthusiasm for Jenkinson when the guys played 66mins for the club and already you're hailing him "better than Eboue". As for your players list I will give my opinion on most of them. Ignasi Miquel is currently the reserve captain and is very highly rated at Arsenal having come from Barca's youth set-up. I have a feeling he will be used in the CC this year and gradually intergrated over the next two years. Expect big things from him. Kyle Bartley is someone who is yet to achieve the potential that was touted a few years ago. He may be loaned out or even sold this summer. Miyiachi is VERY highly rated and looks to have bags of pace skill and raw ability. Big things too over the next couple of seasons. May struggle to get a work permit this season. Frimpong will be a monster of a DM player. He was flying last season's pre-season until he was injured. Will look to get a good pre-season and then he will too be in the first team set-up. CC and cup games. Traore and Botelho are decent LB's but I don't feel personally they are up to standard. Traore may be sold as he has been loaned for the last few seasons. Only expect a sale if a LB is brought in first. Jenkinson is a bit unknown as he has played less than 10 games for League 1 Charlton. Wenger rates him and pre-season will give us a chance to see what he's made of. Ah finally, Samuel Galindo is a "Vela type" striker who has been loaned last season for WP purposes. Expect him to go on loan to Spain again. Hope this helps. Essay over...}

Believable17 Unbelievable3

I thought galindo was a midfielder. and how can be like vela if hes 6ft4

Agree0 Disagree0

Arshavin is good on his day

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Traore did surprisingly well against Malaysia XI. Defended well and was quite good attacking on the wing as well...

Agree0 Disagree0

This time last year frimpong was much better than wilshere shame he got that injury

Just read that Wenger says we are not defensively weak. Has he lost his marbles or is this mind games? Please someone put me out of my misery. Any of the ED'S is there any news on a CB. Thanks

Mertasacker

Agree0 Disagree0

Why not bring back Senderos and Cygan. they we're not defensively weak :) LOL

Agree0 Disagree0

What he ment was last season we conceded the least goals from open play.. majority of the goals were from set pieces, which is a clear instigator that we lack height and leadership at the back.

can any 1 tell me why we have not got vierra back as part of our backroom staff?
why has he not been signed up to work with are team?
he was our last captain to lift a cup
what is wrong with wenger and the board can they not see how valuable big pat would be to us, even if he was sent to meet a possible signings i think he would make a huge differance
i wonder will any thing ever change at our club we seem to pass on very good opportunities
ed do you think pat would be an asset

{Ed022's Note - I was championing Vieira for a role within Arsenal for a long time. I think he would have been a huge asset for the club. He has been given an excellent role at Man City as they can clearly see he has potential to be a very effective member of staff off the pitch as he was once on it. Definite faux pas from Monsieur Wenger...}

Believable15 Unbelievable2

No I don't blame AW just think how much money he was probably offered to stay at City.
KJ

Agree0 Disagree0

Kj when are people like you going to get it into your heads that we cant go on with out spending any money.
did wenger even offer him a job
KJ i would prefer if you didnt reply to any of my posts in future.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was gutted when Vierra turn down a coaching role at the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, Arsene INTENTIONALLY didn't go after PV4 for a place at Arsenal in a coaching role. And he did it just to piss you off. There was a place for him, and Paddy wanted to come to Arsenal, but then Arsene thought to himself..."Wait a minute If I don't bring him in, that'll really chap the hides of most Arsenal fans, and that's exactly what I live for Muahahahahaha"

GMAFB

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you know what ed i have really had it with wenger and the board, time after time they are making the wrong decisions on the playing side at our club.
we have no players at our club that have smelt success at club level we our on tour with no new signings.
why is IG out in china with the team he should be back here sorting out future signings.
please reassure me that board members like hillwood are not looking after players in and out of the club, {Ed001's Note - Gazidis is in charge of that as far as I know, it was certainly him who made a mess of last summer's move for Reina.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal did offer Vieira a coaching role at the club, however, money talks and City offered him a role at Eastlands with a lot more money.
These days more than ever, money talks.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have how many ex players, legends, Do we know if Pat is any good at coaching . Bould is at youth team , Henry said he wants to come back at some stage. They obviously offered him a bigger role at City and more money than Arsenal. To the guy who needs the chill pill, money is a factor in life, maybe you will understand that when you grow up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Gazidis is the CEO, he is out in China on commercial purposes, ever heard of a blackberry , iphone, ipad, doesn't need to be in London in modern times.

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont need a chill pill a.rsehole but what makes me sick is people like you thinking that we have no say in the running of our club.
how much do you spend on arsenal each year.
i dont even live in england any more and i would say i have been to more games than you last season in england and in the cl.
i would say i have spent in the region of 40 thousand euros last year alone
its ok for the club not to spend any money but they take mine.
you are 1 of these new age so called arsenal fans that sits on a site sticking up for the board and wenger.
every single penny that the club has is because of me and thousands of other fans that spend a crazy amount of money following are club.
and my point with big pat is that we have no winning mentality at our club, if he cost us ten million a tear and we won the PL that would be money well spent with what we would get back in prize fund, endorsement
, and even going to asia next year as champions would be worth millions to the club.
ps to the guy who told me to grow up how many games did you go to last season how many pre season tours have you been on.
so get your pop corn ready make sure the beers are cold and get your cushion comfy for 1 more year in front of tv
go f**k your self
and i sign my name when i post
mark wexford

Agree0 Disagree0

Do you no what ed i know this is a banter and rumour site but there is only a couple of lads on here that speak any sense,
do you think i am stupid i know gazidas is the CEO but hes all so in charge of players in and out of the club
we are going through the most important time in the clubs history why was IG not left at home and why is our new majority share holder not out there on tour.
and to the modern time london boy who knows so much about I PHONES AND THE COMMERCIAL PURPOSES OF OUR CLUB when we miss out again on signings and we dont get a cl spot in the future you better find a new hobby for a tuesday and wednesday nite
people like you have no right to call me a fool i went to 44 games last year alone how many did you go to london BOY?
MARK WEXFORD

Agree0 Disagree0

Mark, a few of us have replied to your post with why we think Pat did not come to Arsenal and we think it was about money. You think that we should pay 10m for Pat to be a coach that's your opinion which is fine but we are all realist and know that Arsenal will not try and compete with City. Its great that you have followed Arsenal by spending 40k and watched 44 games last year but does that mean the thousands of supporters who don't go to games cannot comment on your post without receiving abuse.
KJ

Agree0 Disagree0

Look kj i may go over the top with my comments.
but we have to spend money
why are we still going with the old backroom boys it has not worked for 6 years
whats wrong with us going for some 1 like ray wilkins
my point about big pat is.imagine the end of the season last year, imagine him in the dressing room how many of those last 15 games would we have won with a winner there.
what winners do we have
and the ten million was said in jest its not the amount its the fact that we are not willing to spend any money full stop.
we were in the best position since 2004 to win the pl last season and because we would not buy a cb in january we came away again a looser.
if your really happy with whats going on at our club and the direction its going in thats your decision.
but i am not, i am and sick to the teeth of people going on about the money factor all the time.its ok for the average arsenal fan to get into debt to watch arsenal play but its not ok for arsenal to do the same.
every 1 i am having an argument with over the money issue just dont get what im saying, the only people that gain from having no debt are the shareholders not the fans.
IMAGINE
2 years from now the start of the new season and no CL football.
now imagine the emirates on a tuesday nite playing blackburn with 45thousand fans in the ground.
do you all forget what we were promised when we moved to the emirates?let me remind you.
moving to the new stadium will give us the opportunity to compete with major clubs in the transfer market and before you say about the economy down turn let me point out a few true facts,
1-THE EMIRATES HAS HAD FULL CAPACITY EVERY GAME SINCE WE MOVED THERE
2-THE FLATS AT HIGHBURY ARE ALL SOLD AT THE ASKING PRICE
3-PL TV MONEY HAS NOT GONE DOWN IN PRICE WERE ACTUALLY GETTING MORE MONEY
4-WE HAVE SOLD MORE PLAYERS IN THE LAST 6 YEARS IN VALUE THAN WE HAVE SIGNED
5-WE HAVE A BIGGER LAND PORTFOLIO THAN ANY OTHER CLUB IN ENGLAND.
6-ticket prices are going up
i can go on and on kj , apologies to any 1 who i have offended but i feel the gooners needs to stop posting dream teams and rumours of who we may sign and start getting on the boards back before its to late, once we dont qualify for the cl it will be very hard to get back in spending 80 million on new players will seem peanuts compared to what we will loose in the future
MARK WEXFORD

Agree0 Disagree0

Mark I agree with the above and now we just have to persuade AW & the board.

and as for fabregas , we saw it with viera for years ... fab is contracted for 3 or 4 ? years , wengers as stuborn as an ox at the best of times so with the way barca are playing this transfer exspect him to stay or a less barca stump up 40 mill / stright cash which for me is still not anuff

Guys, i do have a source, and what i said about the Phil Jones situation was technically true; we were close to signing him, i posted that night when we were in talks with his representatives, although United came along at the last minute and stole his signature. He was about to put pen to paper on a contract with Arsenal, i'm sure many if you read the reports the following morning, and on the bbc they said Jones was in 'advanced discussions with Arsenal'the night before, but since United offered a better wage/fee the client and club went elsewhere. They were both holding out for more money. I'm sorry if i misled you guys, i was merely saying what i was being told. As for the Nas/Fab situations - the deals are totally reliant on each other; if Fabregas leaves Nasri won't and vice versa. My source tells me that in his opinion Cesc will join Barca this summer. He has also said no bids have come in for Nasri. As for a CB, all i'm being told is that Jagielka is an serious option. I'm not making anything up, i just relay information.

Ben

Believable12 Unbelievable6

Thanks for the info. i've been reading this site for years but only been posting recently and so far you've been fairly solid on the things that could be going on. I understand the phil jones situation so i won't take that against you. Are Arsenal actually going to bid for anyone at all? especially solid defenders.

Believable15 Unbelievable16

It is unlikely that Benzima will come to Arsenal, but would be a very welcome addition if he does.

Gerry Armstrong was on Talk sport this morning and said madrid what to off load him but.....arsene wenger is our manager and wouldnt hold your breath mate.....ill tell you what if he dont sign an experienced defender theres gonna be some pissed off people.two new shirts this season and if benz comes to us they will sell like hot cakes.....

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry mate as you can see im not the brightest star in the sky....if you went to my schools you wouldnt be able to spell.....i didnt say he was coming to Arsenal, i said Armstrong felt Madrid would let him go due to a lot strikers....and dont worry i will not be writing on here anymore being so inferior.

Hopefully nothing, but on the picture special of Arsenal arriving in China, Nasri in picture 6 of 11 seems to be on the phone. I think so anyway, could you tell me what you think of this Ed? Please :)

{Ed022's Note - He probably has an excellent deal with his service provider that includes a free text bundle, an allocation of free minutes to any phone and unlimited internet use. Not to mention the excellent rates when used around the World...}

Believable14 Unbelievable1

Do you seriously think that Nasri would be sorting out a transfer to another club whilst his team mates and manager are 2 meters away AND on arriving on tour?

I heard on Talksport from Adrian Durham saying he had good sources saying that Scott Parker and his agent really want to come to Arsenal but we haven't made any enquiries. Any idea if this is true Ed? {Ed046's Note - i have heard that scott parker has been offered to tottenham and arsenal on loan and if west ham get promoted he will rejoin west ham.

Wenger has stated on the Arsenal site that 'we are not defensively weak'. This sounds like he wont purchase a central defender. Squilacci & Traore are poor, Gibbs is not a left back - he is a talented midfield player, Djourou & Eboue are simply not good enough. Hence, we have Sagna & Jenkinson (looks promising) at right-back, Vermealen & Koscielny who both play left side Centre back position. We desperately need at least one tall commanding number 1 centre half used to the English game & at least one left back. I would purchase Cahill & Samba, move Vermaelen to left back & sign another left back. Please click agree, iof you think the following defence would be an improvement on last season; Sagna Cahill Samba & Vermaelen.

Believable24 Unbelievable16

Reading what Mr W said is worrying, is he the only person who thinks we dont need a CB. We need Cahill, Samba, Jagielka or Metersacka and we need them now, plain and simple

Agree0 Disagree0

Early days still in the transfer window and I still think he is playing poker with Barca and we have little or no money with out selling Fab. Once that deal goes through he will look otherwise Wenger is a walking disaster and if we have a bad start to the season coz the defence is poor the fans will have him out PDQ. imo we have stood still over the last 4 years, thanx Arsene you really don't get it it

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely agree with the need for a commanding cb like samba, but id prefer we left vermaelen where he is. gibbs has clear potential as a left back, but id also love for us to bring in someone like enrique in the mean time. i have faith in djourou after his performances before his injury last season and would be perfectly content with him as 3rd choice, so i feel we only really need 2 additions to the back line. could do with getting rid of the squid though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Too many times Wenger has back tracked. The fans won't forgive him if it all goes wrong again. Traore & Gibbs are both dodgy One decent cb signing to add to Vermaelen, Djourou, Koscielny & Bartley. Lb signing ideally Baines.

This team has plenty of flair, but lacks a couple of players with a fighting, do or die spirit..

Agree0 Disagree0

Djorou was class last year a good defence would be.................
SAGNA DJOROU VERMALEN BAINES

Agree0 Disagree0

He is now say saying we have money for quality aqusition , ie cb

Agree0 Disagree0

Seriously Wenger is not going to move our best centre back to left back is he

Agree0 Disagree0

The reason we are poor defensively, is because Wenger puts 11 players in the box for corners and set pieces, it sticks out like a sore thumb, they all get in each others way.
Its the same reason Arshavin dont look interested, having to track back.

Wenger stop being so f ing stuborn and realise its wrong, leave 1 or 2 up.

Yeti, your reply was a piss take mate and when i reminded you of the bombings just gone on you've tried to spin it. Indian Gooner, if 18 dead aint drastic mate their must be some serious s**t going on out their. Like i said mate my thoughts are with you and your people mate, the names Jonson not Jason by the way ha ha but whats in a name pal. Lastly i've posted on this site maybe 8 or 9 times and never ever once have said a bad word thats the instituion called Arsenal FC. Even though ya get the odd team leader i.e Yeti on most sites that has his followers and asse licker's. I hope things turn out well for you this season. I'd love one of us to knock the Manchester clubs off their so called perch. City have their 2 stars on their shirt for 2 league titles de've won ha ha. I hear their gonna put another one on for the Fa Cup and if they win the charity shield the'll prob have another open top bus ride if they win it. Both of our kits look mad and s**tty if we had the stars spread all over our shirts for league titles. No offence but C.League wins are acceptable, as are World cups for international teams but league titles are ten a penny for real big clubs like ours. Jonson6

End of last season Wenger said he would not allow the Nasri situation to develop like Flamini. Now he says we will keep him regardless. How cam the board allow £20m of asset to walk away for gratis.

Ed-is he playing mind games and waiting to see if Fab goes to move Nasri into the centre am get a short term contract extn or have Wenger finally lost the plot. Either way another summer of discontent seems to follow. Comments.

Jakey {Ed046's Note - i believe that nasri will be waiting to see what transfers will be made to the team before deciding on his future as he will want to see if there will be any improvements to the team to see if arsenal will be able to challenge for trophies

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Maybe it is Nasri who refuses to accept a transfer. When he leaves on a free next season he can pocket a huge signing on fee. So it makes sense for him to refuse to move away and sit out his contract.

Arsenal is closing in on subotic....mata deal is far to be done......vela will be bendtner's replacement and benzema is likely to be the dynamic addition to our attack......gervinho is a right winger so dnt doubt his position......wenger is planning to bring either of rodwell, n'zonzi or m'villa.....vito mannone will replace almunia and he will be the third choice keeper....these are closest rumours...watch it

Believable17 Unbelievable17

I would love this to be true, but what's the likely hood of this actually happening Why is Arsene being sooooo slow when others are snapping up big names around us. Whats the chances of us ending up with none of these........

Agree0 Disagree0

That's Sounds Quite Good

Agree0 Disagree0

These are all quite likely but wont happen till after players are sold, i.e. bendtner, almunia, denilson, squallacci and unfortunately cesc

Agree0 Disagree0

Who are the big names being snapped up around us exactly? Downing, Adam, Henderson, Young, Jones, De Gea.
Personally I wouldn't want a single one of these players, especially not for the money certain clubs have paid for them. Wenger isn't exactly a novice at this. We don't need Benzema. Would be delighted with the signings of Mata & Subotic. But so sick of Arsenal fans being completely ignorant of how the club works thinking well spend 40M + on players. That has never been Arsene's game. We've got the best boss in football lets not let our ignorance chase him out of the club. Much Love Pedro

Agree0 Disagree0

Really doubt Wenger to add so many new faces to the squad, even though the Thought of Subotic and Benzema in an Arsenal shirt would be great i don't think it will happen. I believe if Wenger goes for a foreign CB will be Mertesacker he's cheap as his contract is running down in 12 months time. Benzema will not leave Real Madrid, they won't be signing Neymar, and Aguero is too expensive and overrated for Mourinho

A friend of mine is staying in the same hotel in Austria as the Stoke squad. One of their officials told him Stoke have just rejected a £12m bid from Arsenal for Shawcross but they expect Arsenal to come back with a higher bid or cash plus a player.

Believable9 Unbelievable32

Arsenal will not sign shawcross. end of

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see why people persist with this rumour. I can't see Shawcross ever coming to Arsenal. Not after what happened with Ramsey and how we were so public in our hatred for him.

mhc503

Agree0 Disagree0

Its interesting because Stoke have signed Woodgate & were after Dann. I had a feeling it was Huth we were after not Shawcross.

Agree0 Disagree0

What a load of rubbish

Agree0 Disagree0

NEVER

Agree0 Disagree0

If some of you can get over THAT accident you will see he would be a good signing, far better than Cahill. Dont forget Diaby broke Nasri's leg.

Agree0 Disagree0

He'd be a disastrous signing - not just AR's injury, Shawcross has previous in several other broken leg / ankle incidents. He's crude and always liable to get sent off. Accident waiting to happen. BTW Diaby should go too (but not because he broke Nasri's leg)

Agree0 Disagree0

Never gonna happen, nowhere near good enough to have an Arsenal shirt on.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd rather have Huth but Shawcross would be a good signing. I carnt see him wanting to come here though, the witch hunt from some Arsenal fans went too far

Agree0 Disagree0

Shawcross isn't clever enough to understand Arsenal tactics and formations

Agree0 Disagree0

If Jack Wilshere is clever enough then a chimp could understand them

Agree0 Disagree0

Shawcross is a disgrace of a footballer - his tackle on AR was nothing short of brutality and he should not be not be playing professional football anywhere

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Man united have a buy back clause, although they have just signed Phil Jones. Spurs and Liverpool are also said to be interested, but if we can put all the childish name calling behind us he would be a good signing.

It's so frustrating, signing young and new players, when they get in their prime we sell them. Then we start the process over again. Make a change Wenger Sign Mertesacker, break a record and get Benzema let's win something this year Come on you gunners

Believable25 Unbelievable9

Name ONE player who we have sold when they were in their prime?

I cant think of any

Agree0 Disagree0

Flamini left, Clichy sold, Fabregas and Nasri are being rumoured to be leaving, Overmars sold, Viera continued to perform well after he left, Hleb sold, Cole sold to Chelsea, Van Bronckhorst sold, Adebayor sold, Reyes sold, and Anelka sold.

Not all of these players may have been in there prime but they all benefitted from their time at Arsenal and have continued to play well after they left, I'm sure more knowledgeable fans can name more sold under Arsene Wenger.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hleb, and we lost Flamini on a free, yes it's not the same but he was in his prime.

Arsenal are ready to sign their next centre-back and the name will not ring clear with the majority of football fans as the Emirates side aim to bring in 21 year old FC Copenhagen defender Mathias J rgensen in to partner Thomas Vermaelen.
At 6ft 3in J rgensen certainly has the size and athleticism to be "one of Wenger's boys" and the defender already has five international caps to his name despite being so young and is nicknamed "Zanka". Many will have hoped Wenger would have spent a lot of money on a centre-back this summer however that does not look to be the case, but with the progression of defender Koscielny last season, and Vermaelen to return from injury, these could be exciting times ahead for Arsenal.

Bossarsenal

Believable23 Unbelievable16

If this is at all true I'd be ecstatic. I don't think Zanka is ready for the premier league just yet, but I'm a big FCK fan and watch him week in and week out. He'd be a great prospect and could be the next Vidic or Terry. Arsenal would still need a more established CB

Danish Gunner

I'm also a fan of FCK, but i doubt Zanka would be an improvement to the team. He is a great prospect but he still makes a lot af stupid/silly mistakes. He needs a couple of years to develop before he could be of use.
If Arsene should want danish steel in defence, he should go for Simon Kjaer from Wolfsburg. He's a regular in the National team in front of Zanka, and he's only one year older. {Ed046's Note - im a rangers fan and i would like to ask yous do you rate bartley at all? i do think you are missing a cb to partner vermaelen?

Pasted straight off rumour site already read it just like 1000s other rumours makes this no more true than any of the others.

To ed046. i do rate bartley and do think he has potential and it was a shame that his injury cut his season short. he has expressed his desire to return to ibrox and i do believe that all parties would benefit from it. rangers odviously think highly of him and i cant see him breaking into arsenal first 11 this season (only reason being verm and kos + any signings coming in) which is a shame as id love him forging a partnership with either one of verm or kos. and to answer your second question i dont think we need to bring anyone in IMO as kos is getting better by the day and if verm can stay fit then kos and verm will be awesome together IMO

'but with the progression of defender Koscielny last season, ' that'd be the same Koscielny that lost us a cup final and looked crap with high balls played over the top. He isn't Arsenal quality and one of Wenger's weakness is he doesn't have a clue about defenders. He has got it wrong in defense more often than he has got it write. The team he 'inherited' had the best defense statistically anywhere in world football - for years now our defense has been a joke.

I think the last reply was being a bit harsh on Wenger as he did create one of the most exciting football teams ever, pity we now are in a long losing streak but for someone to win there must be losers, sometimes a bit of patience does very good.
But i also do not believe in this rumour, if Wenger is in for a defender it should and i believe is one of Cahill/Mertesacker/Subotic
Samba is too slow for our game as such i never believed him to be a target.

Hi all.
I am danish and have seen a lot of FC Copenhagen games, both national and international..
I have to say that I think signing Zanka would be a horrible, horrible mistake. He was by far() the worst of Copenhagens defenders last season. He makes so many mistakes and has a horrible attitude.
I saw Copgenhagen play Viby IF who plays in 2. division west (problably equivalent to non-league), and he was directly to blame for Viby IF's first goal. He is very, very overrated here in Denmark and somehow this has spread to europe since this years champions league.
Plz dont sign
