Hazard has now said he's inerested in arsenal.

Believable16 Unbelievable10

He obviously didn't see the Milan game then...

Agree0 Disagree0

He's been flirting with everyone! {Ed001's Note - nothing wrong with a bit of flirting!}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah along with every other club in the world. Lets be honest we can't compete with the likes of the spuds in a bidding war. Hazard is extremely unlikely

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course we can compete with the spuds in a bidding war, that is if the board wanted to.
Kerry Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Usmanov has nearly 30% of the board looking for a takeover, he is richer than Abromovich

so what does 50 mill get you..it gets 1 world class player for at least 30 million transfer fee and then the rest is eaten up by agent fees and wages..
big dickey

Believable16 Unbelievable3

The answer is not allways money Dicky, Swansea and Sunderland have not spent pots of money but there players still give a 110% this is because they have good managers. We have money but the problem is we have a manager who has turned into a father figure which means he turns a blind eye to the players when they don't play up to expectation. Dicky please take of those rose tinted Arsene glasses and join the Arsenal football supporters club instead of the Arsene supporters club.

Agree0 Disagree0

So you think that swansea and sunderland have a better manager then us? what has oneil won in england? what has brendan rogers won?

Agree0 Disagree0

The point was that they get passion and performance from there teams of average players, what do we get.

Agree0 Disagree0

We get champions league football..
still in the fa cup and in 4th place in the league
big dickey

Agree0 Disagree0

What's the point of being in these competitions if you are not up for them, in 3 weeks dicky lets see what you say then.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fairenuf so lets see in 3 weeks but leave a name after your post
big dickey

Agree0 Disagree0

Uhhhh....pretty sure that Sunderland spent ridiculous amounts for a club of their size, especially on their debut epl year

Agree0 Disagree0

In answer to the first question, Fernando Torres....shudder....

In all honesty, I think Arsenal fans especially on this site are reactionary, if we have a bad result it's off with Wenger's head, if we have a good result Wenger Knows. But to be honest MON and Rogers could not do Wenger's job and the majority of us know this and those that do not are deluded.

I think to some extent we were spoiled brats in Wenger's early days and this has come to embody us, Gooners. We have unrealistic expectations, let's face it, we spend the 6th or 7th most in the league but consistently finish in the top 4, we make the knock out phase of the CL every year and all on a shoestring. Most teams would be lauded for punching above their weight while building a state of the art stadium, but we believe rightly or wrongly that we deserve to be the premier or at worst second best team in England every season. Plus reach at least the quarter final stage of every Champions League...(Wenger did this to himself)...

Wenger does not get enough credit for what he does. But he has his flaws, he needs to spend some more money, be more ruthless with flops, and sometimes not try to play the prettiest football. With the money, I do not know if that is at the board level or with the manager. With the footy, it's down to Wenger, we made it to the CL final playing some defensive footy, why do we not do that sometimes on away nights on the continent? With the players, sticking up for your players and shielding them from abuse is laudable, as is having a wage structure that tries to make them feel appreciated, however, having permacrocks and untalented deadwood on your squad is not and Wenger needs a more pragmatic approach to player jettisoning.

Anyways, let's get behind the team and evaluate the season after it's over.

Agree0 Disagree0

5 million could have gotten us Scott Parker but we have Diaby and Song. 7 million could have gotten us Cahill but we have Per, Ver and Schi. Free would have gotten us Van Der Saar but we had Leh...

Wenger out? I would wait and see until this summer's transfers. The team is a transitional one this year, and wenger damn well knows that. If he could have brought in the players last summer he would have...

Sure, it was an awful result last night, but the hart of last year's team was gone, fixing that takes time. Imagine when ox is regular, wilshire is back, plus a couple of big additions.

Wenger is no fool, he was within an injury or two of the league in 2008 and last year. Lets not even mention VP's red card in the CL. Things will come good.

Believable19 Unbelievable6

Transition again?? thats been 5 years now, stop using the same old buzz word for decline.

Agree0 Disagree0

I concur.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with this person
await to see the summer transfers,
after all A.W is no ordinary manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

When OX and Whilshire will be back, RVP and some others will be off. So it will be the same of cycle again. 1-2 years in mis-fortune. 7 years and counting is just piss poor management. The scary thing is that if we dont get CL and cant attract big names who will fill the Emirates?

Ash

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolute cobblers. This team has been in 'transistion' since the summer of 2006!

There was a list on the Guardian this week that puts 25 other English clubs outspending Arsenal in the past 5 years, including Ipswich, Birmingham, Swansea and Leeds! How on earth can we hope to compete at the top level with this sort of approach? Wenger is either a deluded old man or incredibly loyal to a board who will not support him

Agree0 Disagree0

Transition is just another way of saying failure of the experiment with the youth. You don't have to be a professional footballer to know that a reliance on youth alone will NOT work, there needs to be a balance of youth and experience. AW has been marvellous in the past BUT his continued protection of his under performing players has created a team of average performers instead of the CL requirements of class. Additionally his reluctance to spend on the type of player needed has continued to encourage a downward spiral. We will be a Sunderland, Fulham type of team and that is not being disrespectful to those teams. Our outlook is bleak without a change of philosophy, a major clearout and a huge investment in the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

People complainig about transition are missing the point of the post: we have a new stadium and margins have been tight because of that - a sequence of bad luck has scuppered things more than wenger seemingly loosing his marbles. Imagine how different things would have been without Eduardo breaking his leg or if vp hadn't have been sent off....

Utd seem to be looking at Gotze...33mill is what dortmund want.

They also have a gentlemans agreement with Gaitan although they have to meet the clubs 30 mill stance to get him.

What the hell is wenger doin?

16 Feb 2012 16:40:36
imagine if we had bought torres for 50 mill..or carroll for 35 mill..a few bad buys like that and we could end up like leeds..when we buy we have to make sure its as good as can be..we simply havent the money to buy 30 mill or 40 mill players and then pay the wages the wud want..its very simple.. just every be carefull for what you wish for..
big dickey

Believable28 Unbelievable5

Dicky, what you are saying doesn't make any sense. How can you say that if we had brought Torres he would have been a flop? You don't know that.

Torres doesn't fit the Chelsea style of play but it might have been a success if he had joined us.

As for simply haven't go the money. We have over £100 million in our accounts, £50 million of that is for transfers.

Agree0 Disagree0

He Was Carp A Lpool All Season Too

Agree0 Disagree0

Its a pity dickie we were not a bit more careful when we paid ..
mertesacker 10 mil
park 3 mil
sqillachi 7 mil
ramsey 5 mil
walcott 12 mil
gervinhio 10 mil
chamakh even though he was free,we still paid him a signing on fee lets say 6 mill.
are you getting the point, there all crap buys, there all wenger signings, and we are sick of it

Agree0 Disagree0

There is not 50 million for transfers ..but il humour you and agree with you....so we buy a world class player...say gotze..30 mill transfer fee at least..agents fees and wages and there goes your 50 mill....
big dickey

Agree0 Disagree0

Humour me.
who do you think you are
you nothing about arsenal
i say i have been to more games in 2 season than you have been in a lifetime

Agree0 Disagree0

Dickie go and support the spud you have more in common with them than the real arsenal fan

Agree0 Disagree0

Gervihio has just over half a seasson in english football played so that a no arguement, merteacker was bought for between 6/7 milll and will still be worth that if he were sold in the summer, were on earth you dreamed up 7mill for sqillachi i dont know but it was 2.2 mill paid..park cost 1.8mill,chamack recived as a signing on fee 1 years salary, which is about 2.1mill,if hes sold we will break even, ramsey{who i believe should be sold 2}wud fetch 10-12mill..wallcot wud fetch between 15...so what are you on about?
big dickey

Agree0 Disagree0

Load of crap, we have the money as our accounts show, yet people like you keep making out its not there.
if we spent less money on quantity, we could buy quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

And yet ye wud say the squad is to small...?

Agree0 Disagree0

Of all the dead wood and average players we have I think you would be shocked if you added their wages up

Agree0 Disagree0

Big Dickey the only thing you could come up with is Torres and Carroll? really? So you are saying we didnt need to buy and most of the last 7 years we were just 1-2 good signings away from winning something?

Ash

Agree0 Disagree0

Bulls**t, the teams in the past used to play 78-80 games a season with half the squads they have today. Why have 4th 5th choice players like djourou and squillaci? thats what the youths are for, it worked for decades why all of a sudden is it the wrong way now?

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Big Dick but you are wrong. AFC will have £200 million in the bank at the end of this year BEFORE player sales.

£60 million is required for cash flow to pay wages so that can't be touched. The rest can and that's before selling this bunch of dross:

Almunia, Fabianski, Mannone, Shea, Hoyte, Squillaci, Djourou, Gibbs, Botelho
Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky, Eastmond, Lansbury, Henderson, Gallindo, Ozyakup,
Arshavin, Vela, Bendtner, Watt, Wellington, Chamakh, Park, Murphy, Walcott.

How much could we raise from that lot?

How much is that lot costing us in wages each year?

Alumina = £60k p/w
Diaby = £60k p/w
Chamakh = £75k p/w

Just getting rid of them for nothing will free up enough wages to easily pay the wages of 1 world class player.

The reason AFC fail is because they pay poor and mediocre players high wages.

Our wage bill is £124 million (not far from Man Utds) but £40-50 million of that is paid on dead wood.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bid dikis does not have a clue about any of the clubs finances

Agree0 Disagree0

All those proclaiming to know how much was spent on the players and that the money exists...?
Have you had a look at the company accounts recently
Do you know how the money surplus is supposed to spent according to company directives?
If no ...then why do you pretend to know

Agree0 Disagree0

Big Dickey,
Wow you caused some stress by daring to be right. Everyone wants to believe the quick and easy solution is to buy big. But you are spot on with your caution, Torres and Carroll are a warning to us all.
Yes we all want the right players to strengthen the squad, we all share the same frustrations, but a headless rush to big name signings isn't necessarily the answer. Podolski plays well at Cologne but essentially flopped at Bayern, Hazard seems a talent but £30m plus seems a lot for someone who hasn't played at a big club or in a big league yet, Gotze is a talent but won't come to us, I could go on. So does buying big ensure the kind of club we want? Well just look to the teams below us in 4th and 5th place to get the answer to that.
Oh and as for the writer that so was such a great supporter as to declare 26 of the squad as dross - well wow! On what basis do you decide kids you haven't seen are dross? So Botelho,Gallindo,Ozyakup, and Wellington are all written off at the start of their careers? Gibbs who has suffered from injury and just coming back is given no chance, Diaby a French International, all dross? Walcott isn't perfect but dross? Well if he's dross I take it you'd be happy to get a couple of million for him?
Anyway all Big Dickey was saying was be careful not that we didn't need to sign anyone - and put simply he is right.

Mate, this lot like big dickie just talk a load of rubbish.
every1 and his dog can see the money is there.
torres was abramovichs signing not the managers
carroll was a panic buy by an out of touch dalglish who should never have been given the job in the 1st place.
we are not asking for the club to go out and spend 30-40 or even 50 million on 1 player.
what we want is wenger to buy some quality vertonghen, marvin martin,to name a couple you could get the 2 of them for under 25 mill.
big dickie there is no need to make out some 1 else is posting when its actually you,

Just to be clear there are many long standing Arsenal fans that would agree with him. Just because you don't doesn't mean he is posting the support here.
I ask again where has the multi million signings got Chelsea and Liverpool this year - between them possibly one minor trophy and a staggering £170m plus wasted, Luiz is a nightmare, Torres seems finished, Lukaku £20m!, Downing, Henderson, Carroll? Even Suarez the best by a mile of the lot is so vile you would hate to have him here.

Emmanuel Petit has branded Arsenal's performance against AC Milan a 'disgrace'.
Arsenal's Champions League hopes are all but over after they were crushed 4-0 at the San Siro in the first leg of the last 16 clash.
Speaking to SoFoot.com, Petit said: "This match is a disgrace. I agree with Wenger - it is surely the worst performance of the club in the European Cup for a long time."
Petit, who won a League and Cup double during his time in north London, expressed his lack of surprise at Arsenal™s inconsistent form this season, citing their haphazard approach to replacing Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
"When you look sloppy and rushed in the transfer window last August - I am sad but somehow it does not surprise me," he said.
The World Cup winner also lamented the decline of the club since their last trophy win in 2005 and says flops Andrey Arshavin and Tomas Rosicky should be kicked out of the club.
"I wondered what had become of the team that I knew. It's worse than I thought - and what is perhaps the most worrying thing is to say that the club will not do anything this summer to stop the machine," he added.
"Some young players are doing nothing to justify the confidence that Arsene gives them. In behaviour, in body language, you can see they are gone.
"Do not hesitate to talk about end of cycle. Regardless of age. It must be said to Arshavin, to Rosicky - ˜Gentlemen, thank you, but goodbye.™ And quickly. I wonder about the future of the club. Arsene must quickly regain balance. Arsenal were a contender, now they are mere participants."

So much truth, everyone can see the obvious apart from AW and his sheep.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hear Hear, Mr Wenger!

its time for wenger to go now
bring gus hiddink now give him to the end of the season to decide what players he wants to keep, which are not going to be many.and what players he dont want make sure they are not at the club at the start of the season even if they have to give them away, there is close to 20 players there that are not good enough for our club.
and just befor you go what is he going on asbout im going to name and shame them
almunia,fabianski
djourou,gibbs,mertersacker,squillachi
diaby,arshavin,ramsey,benayoun,rosicky,denilson
park,chamakh,walcott,gervinho,vela,bendtner

Believable11 Unbelievable20

You're an idiot. I'm not even an Arsenal fan but to anybody with any sense it's obvious that as soon as you get rid of him you'll sink like a stone. Love watching your team, your style of football is excellent but sadly your board are moneymen, they've no interest in trophies and titles. As for your home support you ought to be ashamed of yourselves. The Emirates is like a library. If you all spent half as much time actually getting behind your team as you do whingeing and moaning then you'd do a damn sight better!

Again, you're a person like many of the other supposed "fans" on the Arsenal rumours page. I'm starting to hope you all get your wish and then see how bad you think Wenger is when you're in the bottom half of the table.

Get a grip!

Agree0 Disagree0

Merte may be slow but he reads the game brilliantly. What if we had him on Wednesday evening to "bully" ibra instead of him bully our entire defense? He's been capped so many times by Germany for a reason...

Agree0 Disagree0

Mertesaker- needs time, I bet you said the same about L-kos last season

Vela- fantastic finisher, needs a extended run in the team, can play as a winger too but ideally as a striker

Gervinho- don't be a muppet, he's strong quick direct and a general nuisance, admittedly needs to work on his finishing, but if we played him right wing and the ox left, and I mean from like the next game till the window opens I guarantee a better team performance

The rest I agree on

Agree0 Disagree0

At least give gervinho a bit of time the rest of the players id agree totally

Agree0 Disagree0

'Love watching your team, your style of football is excellent '

What it is you like best? Our humiliating defeats? Our lack luster performances, or simply those games where we dont turn up?.

We may have played pretty football once but those days are few and far between now

Agree0 Disagree0

Do not get rid of Ramsey he is going to be immense, Gerv is a cracking signing as with Merts, but the rest can go with them gone we should sign Vertonghen, Eriksen, M'Vila, Gotze, Hazard, Cavani, Podolski, Subotic, Baines, sod it if you are selling half the squad they need to be replaced with the very best, from last nights starting team only Chesney, Sagna, Kos, and RVP should be certain starters ever again, imagine a team of
Ches
Sagna
Kos
Subotic
Verms
Hazard
Jack
Gotze
Oxo
RVP
Cavani
and a bench of
Vertonghen
M'Vila
Eriksen
Kos
Baines
Arteta

That squad would be amazing

Agree0 Disagree0

Park shouldnt be in your list. he hasnt had a chance since signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

^ What's he been smoking?

Agree0 Disagree0

Your post here really shows a lack of understanding of the game of football. You see, the problems at arsenal are not necessarily all due to certain individual players. So naming and shaming them especially when you include good players who have not really done anything wrong is a bit over the top. The problems at arsenal are centered around the manager failing to balance the team properly and using wierd transfer tactics. All these plaers you have mentioned will play very well in a well balanced team. There are of'course players like Ramsey who should not be given a starting role as the boy cannot read the game at all. Have you seen how he always plays the ball backwards all the time. Whenever he makes a forward pass its always a horrible one. Wenger really needs to change his mentality.

Agree0 Disagree0

Boy, its not fifa.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ramsey is a must to go he slows up the breaks & can only pass backwards

Agree0 Disagree0

"What it is you like best? Our humiliating defeats? Our lack luster performances, or simply those games where we dont turn up?"

Well, it certainly isn't any of those things...certainly ain't your supporters either. Reactionary, ill-judged and bordering on moronic comments from yourself.

Stop whingeing! Liverpool's fans are fully behind their team and they're in a much worse position than Arsenal. Honestly, you're all embarassing.

Keep pushing and he'll go...and you'll be nowhere to be seen 12 months after his departure.

One is to mourn the death of Arsenal as a Champions League force, and one to commemorate the passing of the Wenger philosophy. A nice touch."

Just to make it clear Johann Djourou got a new one year extension because he had a clause in his contract stating he was intitled to it if he played a certain amount of games a season and because he has with all the injuries he got his one year extension. Wenger didn't give it to him. All the same I think Wengers time is up!

Believable15 Unbelievable4

Wenger's time should have been up last summer. If it wasn't for RVP we would be mid table at best and surely the board realise this. Yet again Wenger showed no interest during the game and just sat on his backside watching everything fall apart. He has always said he will never walk away from a contract, so to save face he needs to get the sack. Well, no activity in the transfer market, a poor run of results, playing Walcott insteads of the Ox and showing no interest from the sidelines is probably his way of trying to make sure the sack will come. It is a disgrace how far we have been allowed to slip backwards and this will only get worse on Saturday when the last hope of a trophy will be distinguished when he plays a weakened side to give players a rest - it is laughable!

Agree0 Disagree0

My worry is that Silent Stan being thousands of miles away, with zero interest in football, doesn't give a rats behind and so will stick with Wenger. Usmanov is looking like the only hope to save anything.
