There seem to be small noises coming from Holland that Arjen Robben is unhappy with his situation at Bayern Munich. He is said to feel like he is surplus to requirements and will not be in Guardiola's plans next season.

At 29 he still feels he needs to be playing reguarly and has been annoyed by the lack of first team apperiances this season. Robben has asked his representatives to ask around europe to see if there is any interest.

Surprisingly, Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are one name that has came out as being extremely interested. Apparently Wenger feels Arjen would be the perfect mix of expieriance and attacking guile to make a real difference to Arsenal's frontline, as well as being an excellent mentor to Serge Gnarby and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and may explain why Wenger may be leaving Podolski out, with a view to accomodating Robben next season.

Bayern are believed to be looking for around £15 million for the player who only signer a 2 year extension last summer, but Arsenal feel the price could drop to around £12 million, which for a 29 year old may be good business.

The biggest stumbling block for Arsenal apparently, is the wages. Robben is reported to be earning 180,000 euros per week. This is obviously not feasible for Arsenal but feel a dealmay be done which could include a smaller weekly wage, but with more opportunities on his bonuses (Match fees, goals scored, image rights etc. ).

What I feel is certain is that there may not be two many clubs whos could afford the Robben package and not to many clubs Robben could join having already played at Chelsea and Real Madrid. Spurs, (as usual) have showed mild interest due to fears Bale may depart, but are unlikely to be able to afford the player.

What is definetly known is In Holland he is still viewed as being a very special player who still has an enourmous amount of quality to offer to any team he plays for, it is almost certain he will look to move in the summer, to who is the big question?

Dutch Bergkamp Fan {Ed029's Note - From elsewhere - Juventus, Inter and AC Milan have a long term interest in him and Palermo are looking at players of his ilk as part of their extensive rebuilding. PSG are consideringing him as an option but Anzhi's interest is unlikely to attract the player.}

Quality - No Doubt

Attitude - God Awful

Would love to see him back in the EPL, but he has a real bad attitude and as we all know AW does not tolerate this type of player and rightly so.

As much I would like this to be true I don't think it will happen. Firstly Robben is quite a shelfish player, secondly he has a tendency to be quite dispruptive on the pitch and behind the scenes.

No doubt he is pure quality, sadly I don't think he fits the Wenger mould.

Agree2 Disagree0

This isn't the first time I've heard Arjen being linked with a move back to the EPL. it's not uncommon knowledge that he's not happy at Bayern.

Having said that would he come to arsenal? I hate to say it but are there not other teams he'd look at first? let's hope Wenger backs up his spending talk this summer. Robben would be a welcome addition to our attack.

A shellfish player? What like a crab?

Would not like him anywhere near arsenal.

greedy, bad attitude and would not fit in our system. £12M is too much for someone like him. would rather go for someone like Fisher from Ajax or Deloufeu from Barcelona. Both would be a very smart investment and both are tremendously talented. or another option is to play oxlade more.

Agree1 Disagree0

Seriously dude Robben! don't we have enough "easily injure-able" players of our own?

wages?
attitude?

gotta be a wind up post.

Agree4 Disagree0

Take a risk its what wins titles, come on 12 million for a world class player don't care about the add ons I care about what he can do on the pitch

Robben wouldn't last a month with the negativity in the home stands.

Agree0 Disagree0

No thanks - it's all about him not the team.

Robben at Arsenal could work if Wenger sorts his attitude out. To be honest I'd welcome him at the club, we need to realise the sh*ep heap of players that we currently have are not good enough to win anything worth while. We need players like Robben

Agree1 Disagree0

He's an arsenal fan

Agree0 Disagree0

^^Who Wenger or Robben?

Agree0 Disagree0

Makes me mad when people say this. "Robben will work if Wenger can sort his attitude out".

When has Wenger ever sorted out anyone in the last 10 years? He is bad in man-management with anyone abover 22.

Did he fix Adebayor's, Bendtner's, Wally's attitude? his response is to just sell them.

The Sun is reporting we are after Saloman Kalou. He would be perfect Arsenal. The nearly player! For the nearly team!

Believable25 Unbelievable117

Oh dear. Thx god this story is from the sun so no truth in it. We rejected him the last time. Same goes for Song.

Agree0 Disagree0

He would not improve us in any way. Defo no no.

hi ed just read somewhere Gotze has a 30 million minimum release clause what does that mean sorry to bother

Bergkamp5353 {Ed002's Note - This is a horribly complex area. The "buy out" clause is legally binding between a club and a player. The "buy out" is effectively what it says - a means for the player to buy himself out of the contract. As an example, if a player wishes to buy himself out of a contract, he pays the applicable FA the amount of the "buy out" clause effectively becoming a free agent. The problem is that in most cases a player would need to obtain that money from the buying club - and this is fraught with issues regarding "tapping up" and, of course, taxation as it can be seen as income for the player and would therefore be subject to income tax. There was a test case about the taxation issue in Spain about three years ago.

A "release clause" is far more common in that it gives a figure that the club would accept for the sale of a player to another club - but it is not legally binding. These are normally unreasonably high figures (Hulk at Porto for example) introduced to act as a deterrent for hostile bids - and even then the club could easily block a move. An example being the case of Cavani during the summer where two offers were made that matched or equated to his then "release clause" but Napoli did not sell. Now of course Napoli say they will listen to offers above €70M.

There is then the becoming popular "termination clause" which is binding between the player and the club and if met would see an offer from anywhere accepted and the player given the opportunity to make a call on a move. This overcomes the issues associated with "buy out" clauses as the money would be paid by one club to another. This is what Malaga are trying to agree with Isco. Malaga are looking to have Isco sign a new long-term contract because they do fear a move for the player this month. Malaga wanted 21M euros and have now negotiated an increase in a termination clause to 42M euros (€35M for the transfer and €7M covering some other costs), using a pay rise to tempt the player to agree.
