Heard the 30m bid was to a German side.

Source:- Clockenders website

Like their match reports and just passing it on.

(Ever hopeful) Hackney Gooner

Believable27 Unbelievable9

The funny thing is I was told this a few days ago, but if you had to make a 30mil bid for a player in germany there arent too many options;
gotze, schweinsteiger, muller?
and none of them seem likely to come.
Waq

Agree1 Disagree1

Gotze would be the best bet but he would be leaving a good Dortmund team for an at present average Arsenal team. Not looking good unless Wenger can sell him something.

Agree0 Disagree0

Could only be Schürrle IMO. Only one not cuptied and can play on either wing.

Agree0 Disagree1

Whatever happened to Goetze's buyout clause? I thought he had a 30 mil buyout clause in his contract. Or was that just a rumor?

Agree0 Disagree0

Schürrle

Agree0 Disagree0

And none of them are worth 30mill

Agree0 Disagree1

May be Malaga was right?

Hi eds and Fans
one question How can a Man go from Being wanted for 25M+ By Arsenal, Chelsea, Man c, Man u, Barca, Inter, Real Madrid go to being wanted for 6.2M from QPR, Everton, Fulham and READING?? How? Was is it all along his agent making up false rumours or not is good or not?Would you take him?
Thanks hope you all had a great christmas and new year(bit late I know but...)

1732 {Ed002's Note - His contract is running out, he has been playing poorly and has significant off field issues (including a ban from the International team).}

Believable12 Unbelievable11

See I wouldve thought being banned from internationals would be a big plus at least then he can't get injured whilst away on international duty like so many of our players seem to so I think he's worth a punt

Agree0 Disagree1

I don't think we should be too hasty with new signings just to get some new players on the books.
While I was a fan on mvila based on his previous seasons, I'm not so keen on him now and think there are other players that would fit the team better.
Also, it was only a few months ago that peoe were saying that sahin was the answer to all our problems and look how that all turned out!
For all his faults, give wenger credit and at least until the end of the transfer window! ;-)

Agree2 Disagree0

Which man would this be?

Agree0 Disagree0

Good Post! I was thinking about this exact question.

Thanks Ed002 for the clear but detailed answer

(In case others are wondering, we're talking about M'Villa)

Agree0 Disagree0

Well first off, I don't think a dcm is what we need. I think Wednesday night showed that we have cover - give coq a go, even Ramsey maybe?! All I'm saying is that I feel our so called "funds" are better spent elsewhere.
Shez has no competition, therefore is liable to slacking and the odd gaff.
Gibbs is good at going forward, suspect at the back. I think in tv5 and Kos we have 2 defenders that want to be strikers.
Gervinho is second rate and I would like to see the pod go more central. Therefore at least one wider player is req.
I don't have any answers as to who we will get - and like many on here could roll of a list of players I'd like. Just feel that wenger is right in not going for mvila.

Agree0 Disagree1

M'vila -
2nd poster I agree with you at the end of the day not everyone will be satisfied if we signed Cavani and he flopped like Torres how would most fans react? and who will they blame? you can't please everybody in life and that's the same in football I do beleive there are better players that will adapt to us better but purely the name puts people of...

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis insists Cavani is not for sale after a bid from an unnamed club. Can anybody shed some light on this, the only clue seems to be that Arsenal made a £30 million bid for an unnamed player and at the same time all of a sudden Cavani's odds on joining Arsenal were slashed drastically.

Walcott signs a 3 and a half year deal to stay at Arsenal.

, tv and a lot of other sources have said so as well.
I know it's pretty much a deal set to be announced soon, but I will still wait for the Arsenal.com confirmation :P

Nick.

Believable32 Unbelievable6

Announced on tv so I expect imminent announcement on arsenal.com

WG

Agree0 Disagree0

It is on Arsenal.com now. It is official!

Agree0 Disagree0

Official now

Agree0 Disagree0

Theo confirmed as signing a new deal on Arsenal.com

Agree0 Disagree0

On the Arsenal site now. I think people can take a break for two years before this starts up again.

psychocyst.

Agree2 Disagree0

More money down the drain

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course he has signed the contract, he can't believe his luck. He is lucky that they did not rip it up after the awful performance he gave against Swansea. He missed 2 sitters, failed to connect with a header a few yards from goal, and could not take a decent corner - £100K per week, we must be desperate!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Seems very strange that its only a 3 and half year contract surely at 23 should be a 5 year contract minimum. Any thoughts on this eds.

Plymouth gooner {Ed002's Note - It has to include a half year.}

Agree0 Disagree0

The three and a half year contract is a signal Arsenal will have a chance of some return and sell him on in two years time if he doesn't progress to the player we are all waiting for.

Agree0 Disagree0

He will improve, have faith

FINALLY the Walcott deal has been announced. 100k a week for 3 and a half years. Bit short in my view but that's fine. If we gave in to his wage demands I'm not entirely sure why we didn't just do it right at the start of the window or months ago for that matter?

Ah well, that's great news, now come on Arsene, let's see what you've got for us!

Metal Gooner

Think Arsene should go for Micah Richards, can't understand why we wait around for deals, we know, our targets by now. Most of the players we have been linked with are under 10 million, so what's the problem.Cavani interest is just dreaming, seriously stop wasting time and get the players we've been watching for weeks, before other teams get them.Theo deal is done so there is nothing in the way now, still time for us to release our deadwood too. DEVON GUNNER

Believable35 Unbelievable11

What more overrated dross. No thanks. We need players who are going to make a difference not the likes of Richards.

Agree0 Disagree2

I'm sorry but Micah Richards is not over-rated, if he were able to stay healthy at his age he would be a fantastic talent to pick up.

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree Micah Richards when fit is a very good player better than most of our current defenders, unlike us man city wouldn't sell us any of there decent players, I think we missed the boat on de jong would of been perfect for us

18 Jan 2013 13:18:54
strong rumour lucas bigila will sign in this transfer window.have you heard anything. {Ed002's Note - Fiorentina and Lazio are amongst the clubs who have enquired after Biglia. Anderlecht rejected an approach from Parma last season but I suspect he could well move this winter with Wolfsburg, AC Milan and Arsenal looking very keen indeed, but there may well be interest from other Italian clubs. He has, on a number of occasions, expressed an interest in playing in Spain but previous interest from Real Madrid seems to have waned; lately his desire is to move to Italy. Anderlecht have found a replacement already.}

No way Napoli will sell us Cavani as the push for CL qualification and no way Everton will sell Fellaini or Baines to a direct competitor for a CL place. Not every team is as poorly run as Arsenal.

Believable29 Unbelievable18

Unless they are in financial trouble I can't see Napoli selling Cavani, at least until the summer. With regard to Fellaini, if reports of a clause in his contract releasing him if a champions league club make an offer of the specified amount, they will have no option other than to sell the player, if he wishes to go. I can't see them selling Baines either, unless he also has a trigger in his contract.

Agree1 Disagree0

Money talks and we have got plenty of it if we are willing to spend we will get the players we want its a big if tho

RG

Agree0 Disagree0

Fellaini has a 22m clause in his contract, IF bid by a current champions league team.. means they have to if we offer 22m+, he doesn't have to accept though...

Agree0 Disagree0

What?! Did we ever sell to a competitor during janurary? I'm sick of all this negative nonsense! Please people take a moment to be rational rather than winge like spoilt kids: Bosman ruling means players have power these days. Would you rather we let nasri/rvp go for free a year later? 'But we should have paid them more' - well look at the clubs who pay those sort of wages; they all have huge debts or backers willing to write off hundreds of millions in debt. So for the sake of the team, please grow up.

Sorry Mr Wenger - won't speak up again.

Agree1 Disagree0

Everton ran at 3 mill loss last year so would not have much choice

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal are not poorly run, why keep players who don't want to play for you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Love how being called mr wenger is not ment to be a compliment! As he put together the best premiership team ever (according to the premier league at least) I guess being called something like Mr Kean would actually be a good thing. Wonder if Blackburn supporters would agree.

Jensen Hatrick

Agree0 Disagree0

How can you say we are poorly run?!?!?! We are actually the BEST run club in the world. Not saddled with debt, cash rich, consistently at the highest level. No trophies indeed, but consistent Champions League qualification for 14 years. An academy the envy and model for all (bar barca). If FIFA/UEFA have the balls to actually implement the Financial Fair Play rules, we will be the most coveted club in the world from our model.

Agree1 Disagree0

Jenson look up sarcasm mate.

People who keep saying that wenger is going to buy a DM he's not don't you remember what he said at the start of the season "midfielders have evolved there's no such thing as a DM anymore" (not a direct quote).

He will be looking for a cb now that all we have squid as back to our 3 decent defenders and probably a winger either he's still going to take a gamble on diaby let's just hope he don't get called up for France anytime soon.

Believable9 Unbelievable14

Wenger is clearly going to try & sign a 4th centre back & a forward/attacking player. He has Abu Diaby, Arteta, Coquelin, Wilshere, Frimpong, all capable of playing defensive midfield. Personally, I would prefer him to sign a tall strong defensive midfield player.

Agree0 Disagree0

I do not think he believes what he said, I think he said it in an attempt to justify his decision to sell Song and not replace him. All the best teams have a midfielder or 2 who sit back when they need to except us. He needed to try and give us a reason for selling Song, not signing a replacement and putting faith in Diaby.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he will again gamble and the only signing will be Walcotts new contract, or some kiddies for the academy. But don't forget Diaby is still (again) like a new signing

Agree0 Disagree0

He said this when selling Song to FCB. He regrets the comment, trust me...

Spot the odd one out in this list.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we wait until the last week of Jan to sign a player?

Why would we try and sign a striker (Cavani) and if we fail, try and sign attacking mids? (Ben Arfa, Belhanda)

Can't see why Newcastle would ever want to sell Ben Arfa, or Napoli and Cavani.

But if it's from a reliable source!

Tomato bloody source! Utter nonsense.

Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out the prospect of signing Napoli sensation Edinson Cavani

Believable14 Unbelievable23

This is absurd. Why on earth would Napoli sell? Unless of course they were offered more than he is worth, which we will certainly not do. Wenger and the board must know this.

Dear Eds, I know you guys have already said that a deal for Cavani is unlikely and no bid has been made, mostly due to the astronomical price. But in your opinion what is wenger doing here?

Is it a PR stunt to maybe get the fans off his back and let them hope that we sign him, or is it genuine interest? Because Wenger saying he likes Cavani isnt much, I know he rarely name drops, But I'm sure everyone likes Cavani. So what's his thinking with this? {Ed001's Note - I think it is more a case of not having any interest, so he can say what a good player he is without risking a charge of tapping up.}

Believable13 Unbelievable3

Diame remains of interest, but Sam Alladyce is trying to put doubts in his mind by saying he does not know where he would fit in the team

Believable26 Unbelievable11

That's because Sam Allardyce plays good defensive football but p**s weak attacking football and can't see beyond 2004.

Diame would play in one of the places that Le Coq or Diaby took up against Swansea, pretty obvious to the world over where he'd fit in!

Metal Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

If Diame has a 3.5 million clause and it has not been activated, its likely that he is not first choice.

Wenger is still scouting, whatever he is scouting.

The rumours are that Higuain and Gotze could be the actual targets but that's in line with the same BS as Cavani.

We have been linked with Adrian, however we have not made a bid for him and he is not cup tied, so there is something suspicious.

I am guessing once theo signs on the dotted line something will happen..

I would be happy if we add diame and adrian, although they will not make us any better, it jsut gives us options to use in our already thin squad.
