The game proved 4 things today:
1) The defence is as shaky as ever.
2)Mertesacker is not English Premier League Standard.
3) RVP is holding up our team again and we will crash back down if he leaves or is long-term injured.
4) Walcott and Gervinho have very little or no end product.
So basically, everything we knew from a few games ago.
On a worse note, a good journalist source in Spain has told me Malaga are looking at RVP with £40 million+ quoted. Deal is designed for January. Please Wenger, even if we sign no-one in January which IMO is most likely, keep RVP otherwise we will be battling against a top 10 finish never mind top 4!

Im delighted with the result of the game for one thing! and i have to agree with what this guy is saying. i hope we sell who needs to be sold and sign who needs to be signed to strengthen def and midfield. and i hope that t, henry will sign with us either on a loan deal which later will end up a lengthy contract. hes a legend and the missing chemisty to help us bk to winning ways and compete with the big boys as we once was!

Agree0 Disagree0

Theirry Henry,,, hope to god that something will happen to get him bk with the club! aka build the team bk around him again...

Agree0 Disagree0

^^ This guy was me and i completely agree with ya points.
In relation to Norwich goal, my 7 year old neighbour can probably defend better against strikers than Mertesacker (And is probably quicker than him too!)
In relation to team, I feel we need a major Play Change but sorry, for me Henry, as fantastic a player as he is, can't be the long-term answer.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate u are mistaken, why is it when we win we are still not good enough? a win is a win! we deserved a better result but we still won, u critics that support our great club should remember that the team of 2004 won games that were close,n were scrappy games, the team we have now is alot different but is coming of age, were not great no but at the moment we are consistent so people please stop complaining we will get better

Agree0 Disagree0

Henry wont be a long term answer if the answer at all,n u 2 guys mocking mertesacker are so far wrong, what happenened to letting players bed into the epl? he will be quality, in wenger we trust

Agree0 Disagree0

What game where you watching? Yea Gervinho wasted some chances but Theo played a great game , unlucky not to score, had the norwich LB beaten all day long and his final ball was good aswell

Agree0 Disagree0

^^ I'm not saying I'm not happy with the result, a win is a win after all, but at the moment, IMO, I feel we are out EPL title, going out of Carling Cup and who knows about FA cup and Champions League. While our squad has the likes of Benayoun, Djourou, Squillaci, Arshavin etc, while we continue to spend Didly Squat on players (Remember Juan Mata extra 1 million Guys?) and as long as we keep letting our superstars out (Cole, Henry, Fabregas, Clichy, Nasri and soon possibly RVP/Wiltshire) we will never really majorly improve!

Agree0 Disagree0

RVP could join ANY club in the world and you think he would join Malaga? All your points were pretty pointless, if Morrison had been stopped the way he had won the ball, it would have been a pen, walcott and supergerv are having a good season. Let's look forward not back

Agree0 Disagree0

Alright, you're making me angry now! Read your points from the start and you were harmlessly jumping on the back of a load of tired, negative points that are endlessly repeated about our team. Your last post is just crazy though! doubt you're really a fan. 'Going out of the Carling Cup'; why?! It'll be a tough game, but its a cup game, and for god's sake what's the harm in actually supporting your team? 'Losing Van Persie/Wiltshire (urm...don't you mean Wilshire?)'; yeah great stuff. VP's contract is a worry, but you can't doubt his commitment, and young Jack's not going any where for a long time! Either you are a fake (and thus i suppose a spud), or you are a horrible fan of our club, and of football in general to be honest. In both cases you are a numpty. Ned.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry but as adefensive unit we defended well. You can not say 1 Mertersacker mistake means we cant defend. Gervinho and Walcott run their full backs ragged, did you not see the Theo assist for the first goal...Typical fan moaning how were not good enough when we have won 11 out of 13 and are now 6th from top and not 6th from bottom

Agree0 Disagree0

I think your all missing the point, Gervinho and walcott played well, Gervinho wasted chances, all striker do, Mert was stupid, expected ball to bounced higher and stumbled, lanky person but will get better, Kos and TV are best CB paring.....BUT BUT, no one seems to mention, Arteta, Song and Ramsey were shocking today, missed placed passes, lost ball constantly, no effect at all....on a good note, 14 shots on target, could and should have been at least six, look at Man U, Swansea could easily have got a draw, we got 3 points, be happy... IMO we need a play maker, Arteta does the simple stuff but not enough for me.... Gooners..

Agree0 Disagree0

Gervinho and Walcott were quailty against Norwich. Look people we had 20 shots on goal of which 14 were on target. We were all over them. Give Mertesacker time. Last year Koscienly was bad and now he is becoming a great player. Stop being so negative about everything. We have a good squad and yeah we do rely a lot on RVP so I think we do need another quailty striker. Van Persie is perfect for Arsenal though can drop deep and his link up play is amazing. As for Henry I would sign him on loan for a few months just for 2 reasons. Gervinho is going to the ANC and Henry can cover him while Henry re signing will give the players and fans a boost just have him playing again. We played really well against Norwich and they were lucky it didnt end 4 or 5-1. Chelsea scored in the last few minutes against them to beat them. If they took their chances at OT they could have got something and they got a point at Anfield. The newly promoted teams arent afraid of the bigger sides anymore. Look at Swansea v United yesterday Swansea could have easily got something. We are on the way up and we need a couple of additions in January and I really believe we can get 3rd.

To the original poster - Take some happy pills mate

We have shown great spirit and strength to get back to where we are now

Agree0 Disagree0

When we have are 4 1st team defenders then we will defend better walcott has been playing well this season and why on earth will van persie go to malaga

Agree0 Disagree0

^^Money?

Agree0 Disagree0

^^
Money?
Malaga ?
Why ?
What ?
Malaga ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Another, manic depressed arsenal fan.............

Agree0 Disagree0

We won, end of.

Ted

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you some sort of idiot?? Walcott was an absolute treat on the weekend! You serious need to look at yourself as an arsenal fan!

Agree0 Disagree0

To the guy that says Arteta is not good enough. You are blind. He's near Cesc in this short time. He doesn't have such killing pass as cesc but is more useful in defending, has routine, higher workrate and his head is where it should be. And he played more games in this few months than cesc in two years.

Drcho Gunner

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah i agree mertesacker is not perfect for arsenal! even santos still not perfect or our club...

Unlikely to see a defender in January unless we get a load of injuries to our back 4

probably one 10mil+ but someone we haven't heard of or someone we wouldn't expect

A few loans (maybe Theirry Henry)

and a couple of teenagers and 1 or 2 5mil and less players

I think with Jack Wilshere back after January transfer market and our other midfielders playing well together we are unlikely to see a big name midfielder being bought

I think Wenger will buy either a big name striker or winger

so thats my predictions

Believable29 Unbelievable11

Mate, Wenger said himself Wilshere wont be playing this year, I would snap up Christian Ericksen 30m plus, this kid will be class for us!

ED any news on fernando llorienta and eden hazard. and im hearing kalou and malouda from chelsea are both strongly linked any good news ? {Ed001's Note - Kalou and Malouda are both available. Other than that no news on any of them.}

Believable4 Unbelievable17

Salamon Kalou!?

(Raises pistol to temple, forces eyes shut)
BANG!

Still he speaks fluent French, is below average, is fairly young and is a wage drain so thats 4 out of 4 of Wenger's criteria sorted, expect him in Jan!

Agree0 Disagree0

Exactly what Juve fans used to say about Henry...

Heard rumours that Thierry Henry could be bought in January but i would only expect a loan deal as he's near retirement. After he would work inside Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger said to L'equipe he could leave in May, which i wouldnt want to see :(
I dont see Van Persie leaving especially to Man U or Chelsea but Arsenal can keep him if we buy some of these players:
Mari Goetze £30-35million
Alexandre Pato £30-35million
Kaka loan
Jan Vertogan £15million
plus less money players.
And i expect Gary Cahill at Arsenal in the summer after his contract ends.

Oxford Gooner

Believable12 Unbelievable40

I can see one or two from there but not kaka because we had a lone bid rejected for him earlier but probably gotze and perhaps pato

Agree0 Disagree0

Cahill will go to chelsea - terry replacement. he will be attracted by money but does genuinely not want to be warming the bench like hlaf the people that go to city

vengtohen would be great but see a lot of competition.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cahill will most certainly go to Chelsea or Liverpool - no chance of it being Arsenal. As for the rest well again barring Vertonghen no chance again. Goetze and Pato would cost, as you rightly suggest, about three times anything we would pay; Kaka's wages will be far too much and if he leaves madrid on loan or permanent it wuill be to Italy or back to Brazil - not the Emirates.

Agree0 Disagree0

You think wenger will splash in january? the worst transfer window in terms of getting a good deal? everything is 50% expensive in the jan transfer window.

if we do buy a player i expect it to be podolski...no defenders, no midfielders...just one podolski to give persie competition, give theo competition and give us an additional dimension...

It is no surprise that Robin Van Persie is joining Inter Milan in January and Andrey Arshavin will move to Fiorentina. Arsenal will use the funds to buy the following players.

Solomon Kalou
Jermaine Jenas
Junior Hoilett

Yes you heard it here, Jermaine Jenas is highly rated by Wenger and he is the primary target for January.

AGREED

Agree0 Disagree0

Arshavin maybe but rvp is not gonna leave

Agree0 Disagree0

Bar Jenas That Looks Like Spurs Transfer List Looool

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you from Planet Bulls**t my any chance?

Agree0 Disagree0

I am from Planet Earth, England, Highbury & Islington.

Do you think the real transfer target that I gave you in Kalou, Jenas & Hoilett are beneath the club?

I suppose you think Higuain, Hazard, Subotic and Tevez will all sign. Robin Van Persie signed as a relative unknown For £2.75m and Wilshire & Szczesny both came through the Youth. These are the three stars in the squad and outside of them only Vermaelen can be considered the sole success of the transfer dealings.

Players like Squilacci, Mertsaker, Santis, Arteta, Arshavin, Rosicky and others are worse than Kalou, Jenas and Hoilett. So why are people being so dismissive of better players, and start thanking the youth managers or lady luck for the gift of Wilshire & Szczesny.

Stop being silly and start facing up to the level of transfer targets. The days of European glory are coming to an end and top players are looking elsewhere for success or money. Arsenal Football Club look unlikely to ofer them success in the short term, and at 26 or 27, a player has not got another 7 years to wait for a League Cup medal.

Denis

Agree0 Disagree0

You forgot Malouda and Connor Sammon

Agree0 Disagree0

Denis you do not know what the hell you are talking about. Coming on here so cocksure it's embarrassing mate. You don't know anything about the talent in our squad clearly, and how would you know what Wenger's plans are? Jenas is not coming, Hoilett would be a good signing, already been discussed on these pages, Kalou would be good too. RVP is going nowhere in January. NOWHERE. If you think our club is mad enough to sell our best player in Jan when we're still in the champs league and trying to get top 4 then you need to think again mate. If he goes, it will be in the summer, end of story.

Raz

Agree0 Disagree0

WTH
no one said that hazard would come all they said is that it would be good funny how ou never said if you are an arsenal fan as well fact is you might be right but firstly hoillet even if he cam blackburn will not him go for less than 15m
jenas is on loan
kalou doubt it but it's more possible if arshavin goes but doubt it .
just saying (sorry about punc in a rush)
1732
its only a couple of weeks left guys so relax for now

Agree0 Disagree0

Denis is not an arsenal supporter fact.

Agree0 Disagree0

Brilliant....

Dubz

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I am as much an Arsenal supporter as the rest of you. The difference is I am not blinkered by the hype and successes of yesteryear. Stop believing nonsense and accepting mediocrity, we are guilty of allowing this great club to fall from glory.

We have a wonderful youth talent in Szczesny in goal, but stop believing anyone outside Vermaelen is any good at the back. 22 goal conceeded in 12 games would make George Graham stop for a glass of water. The midfield looks woeful outside the brilliant Wilshire, but the stress factor looks worse than expected. Many have written about RVP being a superstar and yet he IS LEAVING in January.

How short are you memories, Van Peesie cost £2.75m and player like Wilshire & Szczesny were free through the youth squad. We have squandered immense fortunes on players like Mertsaker, Gervinho, Oxlaide-Chamberlain, Andre Santos Squilacci, Koscielny, Arteta, Eduardo, Arshavin, Rosicky and Walcott. Do you know how much they cost or perhaps the hype made you over look the financial for a bunch of average players. the total of these players alone is £97m. Nearly £100m on a terrible bunch of players.

You say RVP will not move in January as the club is in the Champions League and looking likely to finish top 5 at best. We have hardly got a hood record of holding onto our stars. Fabregas £35m, Nasri £22m, Clichy £7m, Adebayor £25m, Toure £16m, Hleb £11.8m, Reyes £8.1m & Henry £16.1m. That is £142m over the same period from these players alone.

The truth is Arsenal PLC is a profit making enterprise no longer focuses on success. Financial success is the driver now and it seems unlikely the systematic damage over the last 7 years will creat a challenge to reverse.

So back to reality, and look forward to signing 3 good players.

Denis

Agree0 Disagree0

Even though this is a joke I defo think we should look at Hoilett , a very talented player imo and if blackburn got relegated could get him for a good price

Agree0 Disagree0

Very funny thank you.
