Confirmed by Capoue's agent the bid was for him.

He plays for Toulouse defensive midfeilder, club didn't want to sell because Sissoko moved to Newcastle and they didn't want to sell 2 key players in one window. would have solved our DM problem

Also i'm told that David Villa is interested in a summer move, However Wenger wanted him in January and may pass up that option because he is now preparing a bid for a top striker in Italy in the summer (younger) Jovetic or Cavani, or El Sharawaay, are the only 'top' strikers I can see in italy. interesting.

Would fit in about David Villa being passed up because he isn't getting any younger, I reckon if he can get him cheap he will still sign him. I would anyway, every team needs a player that can just finish. 1 chance 1 goal. that's what he will give u.

I am sure - Wenger will use this time to thrash out the terms for an early Capoue transfer in June.

Arsene Knows (sometimes)!

Would still prefer Wanyama - Celtic more likely to sell in the summer, but likely to be more interested parties by then too.

Edd on arsenal. com wenger said he was close to signing another player but the club did not want to sell a d it wasn't a money problem do you know what player this is?
Imranredman {Ed002's Note - I would think Lopez.}

Believable4 Unbelievable23

* I would think Diame

Didn't all the french media come out about this and say it was capoue? That toulouse put too high a price on him because of sissoko departure.

Actually its been said its Capoue but they didn't want to sell - possibility for the summer

Agree0 Disagree0

Nobody knows who the player was (if there was one), the same way nobody had any idea we would sign monreal from malaga. Its pure speculation. Reports said a bid was made for capoue at the list minute but it was too low and therefore rejected. now is that true? nobody knows. because even the newspapers and television reporters only speculate untill arsenal themselves have confirmed something.

Agree0 Disagree0

It was certainly not Adrian Lopez. Either Villa, Diame or Capoue.

So it seems the one we try to sign late on is Capoue. Agent told L'Equippe Arsenal not willing to match club valuation of 15m (euro I think).
While the fair price is stated to be around 12m.
Knowing Arsenal they maybe bid at around 10m.

Just wondered eds, could Santos leave today if he was going back to Turkey? I think the Turkish window closes today so there is hope yet!

In the Champions League match against Bayern I'd play Verm at LB and not risk Santos - he's too much of a liability!

Still I'm delighted we got Nacho - absolutely quality player. It'll be good for him to team up with Caz too.

Think in summer there will quite a few changes but I think with a bit of luck we can get top four!

It was this time last year that we really kicked on.

Sally {Ed002's Note - He could.}

Believable14 Unbelievable3

Fenerbahce already signed Reto Ziegler.

Agree0 Disagree0

Who would play against bayern munich if we sold santos. meade? I don't think wenger would take the risk. Santos aren't going anywhere till summertime!

Agree0 Disagree0

TV5 would play against Munich. I expect he will either way, provided that Kos and Mert are healthy.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the second replier. Sally says in her post that she would play TV5 at LB. so that answers your question before you need to ask it.

Nacho Monreal is actually a very decent signing.

This will leave Gibbs and Monreal as Left backs and possibly push santos up to the wing, which in all honesty would be an interesting experiment.

LB is now crossed off the list.

Nick.

Rather Santos naffed off can't see him getting in front of Pod and if he's injured rather see Ox play there and then Gervinho and I'm not his greatest fan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just need to tick off a new goalkeeper, two center backs, defensive mid and a striker. This time in 3 years we might be there.

Agree1 Disagree0

Santos is a horrible defender. But he has some technical ability and is decent with the ball at his feet. Maybe he could actually provide some use for us as a winger. hopefully.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would you want Santos on the wing? In fact why would you even want him on the field? I'd rather he never wore an Arsenal shirt again, really hope he goes to Turkey.

Ed, in your opinion, did the signing of Monreal only happen due to Gibbs' injury? That's literally an overnight signing, is that even possible? {Ed001's Note - yes and yes.}

Believable22 Unbelievable2

Sadly but true. If it were not for Gibbs injury, seems as though we were not planning on signing anyone. Nice to have Monreal! I was expected so much more, like the two he promised us!

overnight'ish. apparently a lot of the deal was loosely in place already for the summer, even to the point the lad has been learning english for a little while so I guess that kinda saved the deal from the worst of negotiating. but you probably already have heard this by now!great signing due to kierans injury now and also based on his previous recovery time from injuries. sadly for him he's fragile. still a great little player though!

Agree1 Disagree0

Knowing Wenger Gibbs injury is far more serious, hence the signing of Monreal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Was due to come in the summer, already arranged, was taking english lessons. Like Holtby for spurs, decided to bring it forward due to Gibbs injury. Not a panic buy as such.

Edd how good is Amorebieta can you see him joining in the summer for free
Imranredman {Ed001's Note - he has not made a decision where he is going. As for how good he is, well it is difficult to quantify, but he seems a little on the dodgy side to me, very very rash. A red card waiting to happen for me. I find myself cringing every time he goes in to make a challenge.}
