I'm not trying to put a downer on things but after 17 games:

2018/19 - 34 points
2017/18 - 30 ponts
2016/17 - 34 points
2015/16 - 37 points

We're there or therabouts where we've been for the previous 4 seasons. No better and no worse really.

At least we are on an upward trend from last year.

I'm not sure that's how trends work Steve 😂

At this point, I'm not saying change wasn't needed. I'm not denying the fact that some players appear to be putting in a slightly harder shift. I'm simply saying that the change in manager hasn't yet changed our points tally, which is what matters at the end of a season.

We have stopped the downward trend that's for sure

What would it be this season without change 28?

This is the toughest premier league top 4 battle I can ever remember, long gone are the days where United Chelsea Arsenal were sinply formalities and the only question was who would join them.
Our problem was we became subconsciously top 4 content and happy as we were which allowed others to catch then overtake and leave us behind.

i don't think as fans we were subconsiouly content with top 4, medeocraty has been drummed in to us! its only the last couple years where we would really appreciate a top 4 finish as an achievement. Before that we always thought we had a chance of winning at the start of the season. it was only a few seasons ago we were having debates about whether we could win the league with giroud as our main striker, not just make top 4, top 4 was a given and since we've had sanchez and now lacca and auba all much better strikers in a goal scoring sence, but ironically our teams and points gained have declined.

Eden, we are scoring as many as Liverpool but letting in as many as the teams in the relegation zone. Tells you where we are struggling.

Scrapping the bottom of the barrel there g62 by referring to that as a "trend". The reality is we're a couple of games better AND worse off than we have been in the previous 3 seasons.

I concede that we need 2 or 3 seasons to evaluate how much better off we are under current management. I'm not rushing to judgement either way, because on the face of things, we're exactly where we have been (on average) .

What is a trend Sharpie?
A pattern on a grath that is either consistently stagnant upward or downward.
It's way to early for Arsenal under Dick to establish any sort of real trend of its own.
But the figure you provided from before Dick arrived unquestionably show a year on year downward trend.
37 34 30 speaks for itself, we were going nowhere at best and backwards at worst
Let's look again in May because then we can make a better comparison between Dicks first full season and Arsenes 20th 21st and 22nd seasons.

You've answered your own question mate: "It's way to early for Arsenal under Dick to establish any sort of real trend of its own. " So while I am fully aware of what a trend is, I wouldn't be calling that a trend.

I wasn't the one that brought trend into the conversation. I am simply stating that we are no better or no worse off than we have been in the previous 3 seasons.

I see people on this site, prior to our last 2 defeats, lauding Emery for bringing the best out of the players. After the aforementioned two defeats it's all, "it's because he's having to play Wenger's dregs". I'm just adding a little perspective.

And it's very fair prospective too mate but it's almost impossible to compare 4 months work next to 22 years fairly, I've always said in 3 years we will all know own if Dick is capable of getting us back to where we would like to be.
It's only his fantastically positive start that has sent pulses racing and excitement levels through the roof again.

22 Dec 2018 17:30:53
Well he isn't working with George Grahams dreggs. He has been in the job 4 month and you can't compare it to someone who had built his team for years and couldn't in the end muster a performance against top four teams, arguably Dick is doing that after 4 months, with wengers dreggs.

Steve, be pedantic if you must mate, but don't expect any rational person to buy the drivel you're selling.

When it suits, "Emery is getting the best out of the players. He's amazing""

Lose a couple of games and it's back to, "Oh, it's because he's playing with Wenger's dregs. "

Maybe it's just me, but I find this highly hypocritical and disrespectful of a manager that served our club for over two decades. At some point even you have to stop blaming him for the performances of this team.

Some sing we've got our Arsenal back
While others feel their Arsenal stopped existing last May.

We have always been Arsenal football club but for a while there we seemed to morth into Arsene football club and there were quite a lot of people who liked it that way and are now struggling to identify with an Arsenal that doesn't involve Arsene as their club anymore.
just as some people lost all interest in Arsenal and football completely because of Arsene remaining in charge some have and will drift away because he's no longer on charge.
Some wounds take time to fully heal and although the Arsene in out war is over its going to take time for grudges to be forgotten both ways.

Sharpe, i'm not hypocritical or disrespectful, i say it as i see it. Dick is working with and trying too correct the obvious wrongs that every man and his dog could see was wrong with the players and the way we played under wenger, that's pretty much fact. Until we get rid of the wenger lagacy we won't see the full Unai Emery team. It still has wenger influences in it good and bad.

Also Sharpe, i'm not sure i'm selling anything, just having an opinion. Some may disagree with me and that's fine. No that's life.

Deeply dissapointed by our two recent losses. You can tell this team is devoid of quality in most areas of the pitch. It will be a miraculous achievement if Emery wins the europa or finishes in the top 4 with this lot.

The biggest worrying thing for me is that the team is in serious need of investment to get in the top four never mind challenging for the title.

The owner believes you can achieve both through our self sustaining policy but that can only work if we are winning trophies so that we generate more sponsorship but how can we win if we don't have a good squad? It is a vicious circle.

Unai Emery as much as he was not my first choice, is a decent coach but that team is so rubbish he can't do much. we have already fallen behind city and liverpool we risk falling behind the spuds and chelsea unless we invest heavily. United will get a new manager next season and they will spend heavily. I expect them to challenge for the title soon. I expect them to get poch or zidane and you can imagine how much they will spend then.

Punani chill out. You forgotten all ready we destroyed spurs like a week ago as well as having an impressive unbeaten run. I agree the team is short of some world class talent but we’ve taken a massive step forward. Yes we’ve lost 2 games on the spin but do you remember what happened last time we lost 2 games on the spin?

We’ve not been great of late I admit, but in my opinion it’s no coincidence that form has dipped since the formation has changed and Lacazette hasn’t been starting.

Emery has done a fine job so far, bringing in 5 players during the summer, which is about the maximum amount that could be safely integrated. We have been unfortunately to lose 2 players out for the season to injury. I would like to see us sign a couple of players in the window; a player to replace Welbeck, who can play up front and in a wide attacking role and a midfield player with an all-round game.
The following players are clearly on borrowed time:
Jenkinson! - utterly useless
Ozil
Iwobi - still poor despite an upturn in form since Emery's arrival
Ramsey - contract running down
Cech - contract running down
Monreal - contract running down
Elneny - simply not good enough

For me the major weakness for me that needs most attention is that we have too many attacking midfield players that offer so little defensively.

Dick has a similar job to what Jurgen walked into at Liverpool both inherited poor squads full of obvious weaknesses and defensive problems.
It didn't happen over night at Liverpool and it won't happen over night at Arsenal either, this time last season people were still asking huge questions about Liverpools defence.
Jurgen and Liverpool had some pretty poor results on the way to getting where they are now 3 years after Klopp took over, patience is going with the manager and the club is the only way we stand a chance of getting back to being competitive.
If in 3 years time we still have all the same problems with squad quality then I will be joining those who question the club but if it took Liverpool and Klopp 3 years why should we expect Arsenal and Emery to do pretty much exactly the same job in less than 1 year?
Be realistic and give both the club and management a sensible chance and time scale to show what they can do together.

Agreed, I think we've just gotten used to winning again, so fans are overreacting to the two losses on the trot.

Ideally we would have rotated yesterday, but that was a man's game and a NLD so we couldn't play the kids.

Although we lost, we now match them physically (which wasn't the case the last two seasons) and we need more time for Emery to get the players he wants.

We're tired and beat up, but we need to push to January and get a couple players to reinforce and refresh the squad.

We're on the right track boys.

Absolutely bang on the money g62. Results and seasons were poor, so most fans begged for a change. We've nkw got it. and while it has started better than we thought, it's not perfection. let's face it, things take time and I guarantee most fans of asked at the beginning of season if they'd be happy with where we are at this moment, majority would
Have said yes. New manager, new tactics, majority of inherited squad, but showing a fighting spirit that was lacking in past seasons. Rome wasn't built in a day, the excitement is surely in the curiosity of what lies ahead.

So far the Dick Arsenal combo have brought in Torreira Guendouzi Leno Papa and Litch, Torreira and Guendouzi have both been brilliant signings so far and both look absolute bargains while Papa and Leno both look like good buys and Litch has proved a useful addition to the squad especially when covering injuries.
We can't sign Ronaldo Messi or Mbappe type names in order to fast track ourselves into the title race so we are going to need to be patient and buy well and if the 5 signings so far and the difference they have made are anything to go buy then we should be very excited about what we will look like if we add another 5 to them over the next two windows.
