Wenger has been given £55million transfer budget, with mario gotze top priority, along with podolski and potentially Mathias Suarez

But will he be able to get his hands out of his pocket and spend it.

Frankly, Wilshire WILL be like a new signing. You realise there are only 25 spaces in the squad correct??!

55 million including wages and sigining and new deals to current players and so on. effectively we can buy a 20 million player and the rest is up for the other areas.
I am glad wenger got all angry and ready to sell the pretenders. Its hurtin his ability to buy new players.
Diaby, arshavin, chamakh, denilson, bendtner, vela, squillachi, some players who are out on loan need to be sold.
selling all these players we should make £30 million.
Its glad the AST has stated the true financial facts of what wenger deals with.
He had 50 million last year which pretty much included the same criteria as this year with gerv the ox, per and arteta i think he did quite well.
Its a process of weeding out the crap. it takes time when no one wants your crap.
Hopefully this summer they go and we can use the youngsters who will fight and buy some key players to improve our position.
As negative as our season has been i feel with a healthy wilshere we would have been 10 points up. basically on top of spurs.
We have a good core of shezza, sagna, lk6,tv5,santos,song,wilshere,arteta,gervinho, rvp.
For me the OX and ryo will be the wingers off the bench. gibbs at lb, jenkinson at rb, miquel, per and djourou as subs

Same time every year we get this story! Stop getting sucked in, we will be in the same situation this time next year.
Agree0

To the reply that says Gibbs at LB he is not and never will be good enough.
Agree0

How on earth do you think that AW did well, he replaced Fab & Nas by spending 54 mill in a panic on average players, excepting the Ox who has great potential.
Agree0
Disagree0
Next season I would keep the following:
G: Szczesny
RB: Sagna & Jenkinson
LB: Santos (move Gibbs to LM)
CB: Merte, Kos & Vermaelen
Mid: Wilshere, Song, Ramsey, Arteta, Gervinho, Gibbs, Frimpong, Ox, Coquelin, Abu Diaby & Miyaichi.
For: RVP
Plus youngsters.
We definitely need 2 keepers, 1 Left back, 1 CB & 2 strikers.
Agree0
Disagree0
We definately need a playmaker, someone in midfield who can unlock the defences.
Agree0
Disagree0
Out of this supposed 55mil, he will do as follows;
Buy a promising youngster from a lower league for 5-6 mil.
Buy an unknown LB.
Spend maximum 12 mil on a striker.
And thats it. You'll see, this summer will be no different from previous seasons.

I agree with those saying significant money will not be spent, nor the correct players bought. Every year we are told there is money available, and Wenger will spend, then miraculously it turns to "nobody was available". Generally clubs will not sell because our offers are miserly, and made too late in the transfer window for the selling club to get a replacement. As for selling the dross (even if we all disagree on exactly who should be first out the door) we are paying most of them such enormous wages nobody will touch them. Its all spin to get us renewing our season tickets and memberships, followed by the usual betrayal.
Agree0
Disagree0
I think you are all being unfair on Wenger. Yes we need another creative midfielder, perhaps another striker - but there is no way he could have predicted that Wilshire would be out for the whole season...
He was the closest thing we had for a replacement for Cesc.
As for a striker, I think Wenger wanted to give Chamakh another chance which makes sense given his form in his first 6 months at Arsenal.

The myth about wenger singing reagood payers for the club is a misconception. You can count the number og really good players on two hands, while tje listy of utter rubbish just goes on and on, and the good ones, other than the ox were years ago, just look at this list of utter garbage :Diaby, Pennant,Senderos, Hoyte,Fran Merida, the next best thing from Spain, Stefan maltz, moritz voltz,Nordviet, Jay emanuale thomas, chamac, park, fabian carini, sebastian svard, david bently, reyes, Quincy owusy Abei, Frank simek, michel popadopalis, Juan, Daniel karbassion, Arturo Lupoli, Hleb, Poom, Fabrice muamba, David grodin, richard wright, almunia, fabianski, cygan, stepanovs, djouru, denilson, walkot, jeffers, Garde, Gibbs, Stathis Tavlaridis, Bentner, Squillachi, Eduardo, only a squad player, Eboue, Grimandi, best thing he ever did was to pole axe that Argy cheat in champions league, Hope you agree as most of these wenger signings have gone up in smoke, not a single one has been a suxcess, there are plenty more i could add, but i hope you get my point, now the good ones are much harder to name, lauren, sol cambell, last really top quality player, pires, edu, silva, wiltord, kanu, clichy van persie, flamini, gallas, fabergas,tv5, lehman sagna, henry, overmars, ljunberg, silvinio, toure, in my mind the record of his signings is abject.

The truth about the Magic of AW is a myth in the transfer market as shown in the above post.

To the poster who rubbished Grimandi. Not having that. He had balls and got stuck in. A good team man.

David Dein got most of those players in, not Wenger.

Glad for the response, did not expect all to agree with my list, but it did get you talking and hopefully thinking about the myth of wengers purchases, i do agree Grimandi was a good squad player, the type we could do with rather than Diaby. Eduardo was ok,. but was really just a squad player - even before his horrific injury, as i said it was just a quick list to make you open your eyes.
Agree0

Hleb was allways injured, he was the same in Germany before he came to us. I also told you that Mertasaker is the German equivalent of Stepanovs - before we bought him, you can get good info from German contacts.
Agree0

Myth about Wenger Signings:- i tend to agree and disagree with you on your ratings. Hleb was never rubish for Arsenal, in any case he is European Champion and your comments will never strip his medal away from him. Although Senderos and Pascal Cygan were not world class they still gave us a lot more that Djourou and Squilacchi. Eduardo was not bad, Adebayor was also an excellent contributor for us, he needs to join the list of our Greats even though he now features for the enermy.

Im very wary of players in the Scottish league. Its terrible. Thanks why im not getting excited about Bartley at Rangers not that he is doing fantastic. Would like him to go on loan to a West Brom or a lower half PL team. Even Stoke they could teach a big fella like him to learn to defend..

Kayal is a mediocre player in a mediocre league. Put him head to head with the likes of Toure, Catermole, Parker and he would get destroy.

Hi Eds sorry to ask but please could you help me with this? Could you please give me a breakdown of the fees involved in signing a £20m player?
I always thought you paid the club the 20m, and they see that 20m minus tax. What don't get is this 'signing on fee' that players demand and then 'agents fees' on top - I always thought that if we signed a 20m player, we pay the club 20m. Out of that they pay their player say 10% and the agent say 10%. So 20m after tax = around 16m or something, minus the 4m to player and agent, that's 10m left.
I thought that is how it works, yet I am hearing that we paid some signing on fee for Chamakh who we got on a free, so I don't get what this singing on fee is!
Cheers... {Ed002's Note - A player can negotiate a signing on fee with a club as part of a transfer but typically this is most relevant when a player joins on a free transfer - and thie agree amount would typically be spread over the length of his contract. Nominally, the fees involved for a £20M player are - the transfer fee (£20M), VAT on the transfer fee (£4M), agents fees, say 7% (£1.4M) and VAT on agent fees (£280k). This gives a nominal total of £25.68M.}

Thats why when we spend 15 million and pay taxes and all that jazz and it comes up to 18 million...wenger goes...hmmmmmm
I need to see some profit...how much is cesc worth? 35? wow twice the money i spent...ok sell him.
Anyone out there who can play like cesc? NO? OK sell him i will find one in the next 10 years.

Cesc Jumped ship and headed for the bright lights. The day he was pictured in the barca shirt was the day we should of got shot of him.
That one incident showed utter contempt for the Arsenal fans who worshipped him for all those years.
He held the club to ransom and Wenger had to cut his losses and hope for the best. We can only hope that Wenger got a decent percentage of any future moves Cesc might make.

wenger said in the past its 35 million in mortgage repayment. Over 25 years and the 400m to build it.
Was it worth it. 1.1 billion? are my figures correct
If as the previous person mentions we have 200m in case, if wenger does not spend can we not reduce this or clear the additional 125 debt
Believable3
Unbelievable8
I think it's on a fixed term loan (not far off 15% apr i think ? ) so there would probally be financial penalties to clear the morgage,
however the cash reserves that arsenal have along with the wealth of the owners i think the bank would have to play ball in someway with the hope they could get there hands on some of the wealth usmanof and the yonk have.
Kerry Gooner {Ed002's Note - Sorry, the funding for the stadium is rather more complicated than you think. It is not a simple mortgage at a fixed rate but a package of finance that includes various fixed rate bonds that have a repayment period stretching out as late as 2031.}
Agree0
Disagree0
Your figures are totally incorrect. I cant quote the exact figures, but the loan we have is in effect a long term mortgage at a relatively low rate, with about 15 years to go. It is easily affordable & offset by the hugfe reserves of £160m {Ed002's Note - So no bonds then? Right.}
Agree0

Arsenal can pay 10% of the total loan value every year in a lump sum over the regular payments in whatever form they are.
I have no idea over how much remains outstanding and how much we pay off.
Its not in my nature to care of things outside of football, for a club i support.
Arsenal are not in crisis, we have managed money well, but we have not managed the team well.
The irony is that maybe we are better of competing with banks compared to other football clubs.

What r peoples thoughts on a bid for Ogbonna, the CB who plays Serie B for Torino? Has also played Italy first team. He has recently signed a new contract, but surely he would be keen for a move up

Vermaelen/Koscielny/Mertersacker and then there's Miguel/Coquelin coming through
we're fine for DCs
what we do need though, is to sort out the DL and DM slot
we haven't had a good DM since Flamini left (and that's why we're doing so poorly - teams are just overrunning us in the middle)
ThePA
Agree0

While I agree with the pa, ogbonna would be a good buy, he's very quick for a centre back and still very young, he's also comfortable at rb, although like TV5 he prefers the cb slot, he wouldn't be first team just yet, as we all know our first choice back four is Sagna Kos TV Gibbs
Of course we all hope in the summer we will get a new left back gibbs is currently to injury prone to be relied on as first choice, he's still young so let's not hang him out just yet and Santos is a winger by nature!

Don't know if it's been said but I'm hearing rumours of us joining the hunt for the £35m winger Nicolas Gaitan. Apparently Man U and Man City are looking. Anyone inc Eds know anything about this?

We wouldn't stand a cats hope in hell mate, the reason we can still dream about hazard is he wants the epl, Chelsea and city have both openly admitted they like him but he's not in their plans, whilst utd are more interested on the above gaitan and gotze, so for hazard its us, spuds and Liverpool ( Lille wanna keep joe cole) in the race, I'f we get our finger out, if you added city and utd having definitive interest in him then we'd get destroyed financially
And that's why we won't sign gaitan
