Arsenal can expect one, possibly two players in the January window.

A striker will be signed to provide cover for RvP. Chamakh's time at Arsenal is quickly coming to a close leaving only PCY as a backup striker (Wenger is still too reluctant to move Walcott into the middle). This striker will be a low key, experienced signing similar to PCY signing over the summer.

A full back will brought in on loan if there are any set backs to the recoveries of Sagna, Gibbs, Santos, or Jenkinson. Expect a low key, experienced signing similar to the Santos signing over the summer.

Any relatively big name signings (listed below) will wait until the summer.

A striker along the lines of Podolski, Doumbia, Sow, Higuain (doubtful), etc. will only happen if RvP doesn't extend his contract (God forbid). They all command hefty price tags and salaries which Wenger will not spend on a backup.

A creative play maker along the lines of Gotze (doubtful), Hazard (very doubtful), MMartin, etc. depend on Ramsey's development. If he doesn't improve his poor form then expect a play maker to be signed and Ramsey to be sent out on loan.

Remember, the "unbelievable" button means the rumour isn't believable. Not that you don't like the news and would rather read that we're getting Neymar and Gotze! :p

Your last sentence hit the nail on the head, and definitely sums up 90% of the posters on this site who confuse rumour with fantasy. Your entire post made sense and the realistic outlook was refreshing for this page.

Yeah a guy who writes this has to believeable, lol. haha.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ramsey's poor form? Do be serious

Peace out

Agree0 Disagree0

Ramsey has been looking good to me too

Agree0 Disagree0

Peace out, Ramsey has been poor, or in other words not good enough for what we need right now. he will still turn out great in a couple years. But right now he's inconsistent, which could be partly explained by lack of rotation, but I also think there are parts of his game that still need work (executing a throughball pass in the final 3rd, shooting on target).
ibster

Agree0 Disagree0

This is no more believable then any other fantasist. Just because it is written "seriously" and with hype, it's no more "news" or "rumour" than anything else. Just writing "factually" as if you are "in the know" doesn't give the post any more credibility than someone who types something like "I think Wenger will sign Benzema in the summer!" The post was rendered entirely ridiculous by the "Ramsey's poor form" comment. He may not be Lionel Messi, but he has by no means looked out of place in our team, and for every dither and extra touch in the box he may have made, he's also put in some excellent work too. I don't mean to be rude to the poster who is entitled to his own view, but I think it's pompous drivel.
Max Farnham

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Max!

I would like to thank the OP for the most patronising final sentence I have read on this site to date, thank you very much. There's a poster on the Spuds page called The Oracle (not sure if they still post tbh) who writes in the same wishy washy nondescript way (e.g. if RVP leaves then we could sign one of ), no more truthful than me saying 'it might rain today as it's that time of year'.

I think our most obvious signing will be a defender on loan. I have a feeling Abdellaoue could join the club as a back up striker. I also expect one or two kids to come in as usual because AW only like to miss out on players who are currently great, not ones who might be in 5 years!

I still have a shred of faith for a big signing. The writing has been on the wall for a while now, Wenger has been looking at much more expensive players than usual, and I think we could be pleasantly surprised. No, it may not be one of the hottest properties going (Goetze, Hazard, Neymar etc) but it is not impossible to get Goetze. Depends on whether he chooses another club over us - from what I have heard it would not be about simply money for him.

Also, Ramsey, whilst trying to do a sturdy job, has been poor at defending all season, and terrible in front of goal all season. His passing isn't that good, he isn' anywhere near as direct as Rosicky and Benayoun, and to be perfectly honest he has barely improved since he went on loan at Forest LAST NOVEMBER. He is our bench level at the moment and we should be looking for another midfielder.

Raz

Agree0 Disagree0

Ramsey has been Poor? What games have you been watching? As for his defending he always puts a good shift in and his partnership with Song & Arteta is coming along nicely IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

I will concede in recent weeks he has been better but he is not a great as some think. Rosicky and Benayoun have bother been better every time they've played this season. If Ramsey was at any other club nobody would talk about him being that good.
Raz

Agree0 Disagree0

Regardless of your opinions on Ramsey's performances, do really see Wenger sending him out on loan? Wenger only sends players out on loan if they need more 1st team football than is available at Arsenal for their development.

In any case, once Wilshere is back Ramsey's 1st team place will not be guranteed. If Wenger percieves Ramsey's standard of performances to be sub-par and he loses his 1st team place, the extra competition may well see him pick his game up.

I agree with original poster in envisaging one defender on loan as the main signing. I hope this will be followed by moving for a goalscoring striker. Really though, Wenger's tendency is to give underperformers chances to prove themselves rather than selling, as was the case with pre-good Flamini and now with Arshavin after last season. In this sense, I think he will want to give Park a good chance and will hope that ACN reignites Chamakh's attacking prowess. And, of course, it is a difficult time to sell Chamakh.

But considering his ''good opportunity'' statements, he is obviously looking at bargains for offensive signings. For that reason, I am still hopeful we may get Podolski.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ramsey has been taking a bit of a stead-the-ship type of role that Arteta performs better. We would have more cutting edge with Rosicky and especially Benayoun but I don't think Ramsey has been bad in our midfield. He's certainly good at spreading play to the wings, even if his final ball is Gervinho-esque at times.

Agree0 Disagree0

How has Ramsey's form been bad??

He has been solid, and had the odd really good moment. Jesus he only came back from injury a few months ago and has been playing every game! Not like he couldn't be replaced we have loads of midfielders

RMC Radio suggest Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas is in London this week negotiating Gourcuff's move to Arsenal in Jan.

=Miss Arsenal

Believable30 Unbelievable12

I got shot down for saying AW was looking at Gourcuff, I think he is just the type of signing we need and AW would make!

Mong out!

Agree0 Disagree0

Or simply shopping for christmas.

Agree0 Disagree0

The French don't leave things til the last minute. Besides France has its own 'West End' ;-)

=Miss Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

Mong Out! It's good to have you back on here mate where have you been?

Also were you actually shot down? I don't know why, we have deffo been keeping tabs on him. I think a lot of fans actually don't want him, that's the problem....

Raz

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I dont blame fans for being lukewarm to him. As the ligue 1 journalist Matt spiro said, "Lyon want rid. Id be surprised if #AFC get him, not just cos Wenger said he wouldnt, but also cos Gourcuff has been woeful."

Ibster

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we dont go for him. Benayoun and Rosicky have shown that they can offer a decent plan B, and the Ox is looking ready for a 1st team push. Miyaichi also hasnt had adequate game time to conribute to the team. It must also be remembered that Wilshere will be back March latest, so either he or Arteta will assume the main central playmaker role. This means that any attacking mid will be pushed onto the wing (as happened to Arshavin, Nasri etc), so signing someone like Gourcuff would be misguided.

For these reasons we do not need an attacking midfielder at the moment, even if Arshavin leaves. Offensively, we only really need another striker. We already have forwards (Walcott, Gervinho etc) occupying the sort of roles that an attacking midfielder would eventually be pushed into. Our best attacking hope would be one more out and out CF to replace Chamakh.

Oleg Maputo

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed, what on earth would we do with him? Signing him would mean relegating one of Wilshere or Arteta to the bench when we're trying to make room. It's too expensive of a gamble and either he's great but we lose out on one of our best players or he's poor and we've just wasted a load of dosh.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think this could be interesting. Loan with option to buy.

Also we could probably sell Rosicky (old and broken down) to a german side. For me this makes good sense and is one less player we have to try and replace this summer (I suspect wenger is not done clearing out).

Also if another striker came in this would mean arshavin could potentially leave as well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Only Goetze make sense to me in midfield...

Aresnal to look at bringing in:

Podolski to replace Chamak
Gotze if they can cough up the money
Hazard if they can beat off the competition
Clyne from Palace
btw id love to see T Henry on a loan deal to the club
but for a month , come on cant happen edd i agree very unlikely nice idea and a buzz for the fans and the lockeroom. but well need soild permnament signings cant afford what happened at the start of the season to happen again to us. realistic we cant afford not to aim for the top 4. untill we build the team i cant see silverware.in A.W i trust but im also a fan that knows we are not the team we were if anything we the players we have we lucky to be in top half of the table. hopefully A.W in the next 2 transfer windows will bring in and strenghten the team sell off who we all know need to go. and use funds from sales plus what the clubs owners provide to help buy. im sure we will be in contention for the title.and cups.(also i have top respect for edd ere always influenced by hes comments)Merry Xmas Arsenal F.C .

Henry is a legend and not at the level he was when we were all spellbound by him. Still a good player but for the simple reason that I don't like to even imagine his reputation tarnished, I'd rather we didn't bring him back for a month. Cheers.

there is no talk of MARVIN MARTIN
top young player could get for about 15 mill
could he be on wengers radar {Ed002's Note - Dortmund, Lille, Lorient and Anderlecht have enquired after Marvin Martin, but Valencia and Arsenal have been most serious in the pursuit of the Socheaux player. I suspect a move in the summer is much more likely than a move in January.}

Believable10 Unbelievable10

Martin has publicly stated he prefers Spain to England. Whether that means he prefers Valencia to Arsenal I do not know, but hopefully he only means Barca/RM (and they're full to the brim of class mids)

Agree0 Disagree0

Edd i remember in the summer you mentioned how much a fan you are of marvin martin. do you think he would fit well with us and the type of quality A.W goes for.and hows our chances for going to sign such a player in january i guess as a possible arshavin replacement.id love to know what you think edd. tanx again.also edd could you lend a tought on whom you like to see signed in the january trans window for the gunners.Dublin Fan. {Ed002's Note - A different Ed but I guess I can explain the situation. Dortmund, Lille, Lorient and Anderlecht have enquired after Marvin Martin, but Valencia and Arsenal have been most serious in the pursuit of the Socheaux player. Loads of people seem to want to us to sign Jordi Alba for our new left back -_-, have a reality check he isnt even a lb he is a lm and he is worse than santos at defending....

TomArsenal

Believable5 Unbelievable9

Thank You Tom

Agree0 Disagree0

Wrong Tom. Jordi Alba plays mainly as a left Defender - But he can also operate as a left midfielder. Actually plays in defence for Valencia and same position for Spain.

He's also typically "on par" with Santos, no better and no worse.

There we are - a player with a price tag and the player's agent stating who has shown interest. Perfectly reasonable.

Daniel

Believable15 Unbelievable5

Daniel,

It's perfectly reasonable for an Agent to state a clubs name whether they are or aren't, in for a player. - It causes a bidding war and makes other clubs believe that "big clubs" such as Arsenal and Man Utd want the player.

I'm not saying it's a non-story as we know AFC are interested in Biglia; however you've got to bare in mind, Agents are dastardly people ;)

Arsenal are set to make a shock move for Wigan Athletic forward Hugo Rodallega.
The Metro are reporting that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is ready to make a January swoop for the Colombian forward.

Believable11 Unbelievable41

I will lose all respect for AW if he signs Rodallega. He is rubbish.

Raz

Agree0 Disagree0

Can anyone really see this happening? I dont think Wenger would be so stupid. He is being tipped as a 'bargain' at 5m but he is not even worth that. His goalscoring record is dire, we need a proven goalscorer.

I know it's almost useless posting these now, the number of players we actually get linked with, but even so, apparently we're interested in Tiote, and also this City striker who is on loan at Feyenoord called John Guidetti who's scored 11 goals in 12 games. He's a Swedish U21 striker.

I would say these came from reliable sauces rather than reliable sources....

Raz

Chelsea are keen on signing England midfielder Jack Rodwell from Everton for a reported £20m. Understandably, Goodison gaffer David Moyes is reluctant to let him go, but with Everton strapped for cash the Toffees might not be able to afford to turn down a big offer.

If Rodwell goes to Chelsea, it could set in motion a transfer merry-go-round that takes in six clubs and three countries, spanning half the globe, as talkSPORT explains¦

JACK RODWELL FROM EVERTON TO CHELSEA
What's the story? Chelsea are preparing a £20m offer as Andre Villas-Boas looks to stamp his authority on Stamford Bridge and add dynamism to his midfield and attack.
Who could he replace? Frank Lampard

FRANK LAMPARD FROM CHELSEA TO LA GALAXY
What's the story? MLS Cup winners LA Galaxy are allowed to field three star players that don't fall under the league's salary cap rule. These 'designated players' currently include Robbie Keane, Landon Donovan and David Beckham. Galaxy are known to be keen on offering 33-year-old Lampard a new lease of life in California and Andre Villas-Boas has made it clear the ageing midfielder is no longer an automatic first team regular.
Who could he replace? David Beckham

DAVID BECKHAM FROM LA GALAXY TO PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN
What's the story? The big-spending French club want Beckham to sign in an attempt to boost their profile worldwide. Negotiations are ongoing, with French papers claiming it's a done deal, while a Beckham spokesperson has denied any agreement has been reached.
Who could he replace? Javier Pastore

JAVIER PASTORE FROM PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN TO ARSENAL
What's the story? Pastore only joined PSG from Palermo in August 2011 in a deal worth 40m, but he's already unsettled in France and told an Italian radio station recently that he wants to move to a bigger club. The Argentine is one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in Europe and Chelsea and Arsenal are known to be admirers. The Gunners aren't exactly renowned for spending big, but still have money left over from the sale of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in the summer and could have more funds if the disappointing Andrey Arshavin is sold. Arsene Wenger has also never faced such a battle to stay in the top four and the prospect of missing out on Champions League football could spur some long overdue spending.
Who could he replace? Andrey Arshavin

ANDREY ARSHAVIN FROM ARSENAL TO Fulham
What's the story? If Arsenal can sign a replacement, they will let Arshavin go in January. The diminutive Russian would attract offers from his homeland, as he seeks first-team football ahead of Euro 2012, but he's happy in the Premier League and London. Fulham, meanwhile, have yet to see the best of Brian Ruiz, Damien Duff has been injured recently and the team are over-reliant on Danny Murphy's creativity and Clint Dempsey's attacking prowess. Arshavin is just the kind of tricky player Martin Jol likes and could provide the spark Fulham at times lack.
Who could he replace? Bobby Zamora

BOBBY ZAMORA FROM FULHAM TO EVERTON
What's the story? The England striker has an icy relationship with Fulham manager Martin Jol and has been told he's not guaranteed a first-team place. His hold up play and strength would be perfect for Everton, whose boss David Moyes has admitted that the Toffees are "short up front". With money from the sale of Rodwell, Moyes could shuffle his pack and bring in Zamora.
Who could he replace? Jack Rodwell
------------

I think that this is a joke. It was on talksport what do you think ed {Ed002's Note - Far fetched.}

Believable19 Unbelievable16

It made for interesting reading but the first thing I will say is talksport are pure sh!te, and the second is that you don't buy Arshavin to replace Zamora.

I also highly doubt Pastore will leave after such a mega transfer this summer. Are we going to pay what they paid? No way.

Lampard wouldn't go to Galaxy, it would cost a huge amount to get Pastore and I doubt Arshavin would go to Fulham.

Wenger has admitted that he may look for an LB, but has persistently denied any interest in Bridge. I personally dont think he would be the worst signing (as long as its on loan), he can do a job and will not be playing that many games anyway. There is no way wenger will pay his full wages (90k) though and we can probably get better. I dont really see it happening.
