Just seen a rumour Thomas Lemar is being touted in a swap for Laca. What does anyone think? He's had a funny couple of years but Mr Wenger rated him very highly.

Partey or bye.

No thanks, we have many wingers already. Have to agree with DG, it’s Partley or a decent wedge of cash only.

We need a quality DM and Athletico need money so far so good but! Does Partey the human being with his own feelings hopes and ambitions need to swap Athletico Madrid and the champions league for Arsenal and the Europa league?
Does Partey to Arsenal have any basis other than in fantasy football?

I believe the club are selling a vision of things to come Gunner. It might work!

I think there is still very much a pull to come to Arsenal because of legacy but whether Partey is interested or not i'm not sure. The fact that Atletico are open to selling him would possibly turn his head slightly and make him think "right, what's my best option going forward? ". He would certainly earn good money at Arsenal, he would get the chance to play in the best league in the world and regardless of what people say, it does look like we have a good little project coming along at the moment on the pitch. He would also get assurances over his role in the squad because he's exactly the type of player that we need. He would be integral and I think that would be highlighted to him very early on. I'd love to see it, let's keep everything crossed.

As far Lemar, that ships sailed for me and we have enough wide players now. We are starting to look solid with attackers and defenders but there is a MASSIVE hole in the middle. We need a creative player and defensive player 100%. If we can get Dani back on loan then I think we'll push for a DM but if we don't, I feel like we'll stick with Lucas T and sign a creative player.

Hi Glen mate, as far as I know it's all totally hypothetical whether Partey would swap Athletico and champions league for Arsenal and Europa league football because again as far as I know Athletico don't want to let him go and the player doesn't want to leave so there is no reality to the question.
The Partey to Arsenal story is yet another media invented non story unless either Athletico or Partey himself change the way they feel about each other.
Athletico may well have financial issues but it's fantastic leap from Athletico's poor bank balance to yet another London Colney medical:-) .

Yeah I get that mate definitely. Ed002 did mention that they'd be willing to let him go if the 50m was paid in cash upfront so I don't think they're very reluctant to let him go, just that they want their demands met which is understandable.

As soon as the Eds tell us Arsenal have made a firm enquiry about Partey then I will take notice Glen mate and if that enquiry should then be confirmed as a solid bid then I will get very excited but until that happens I will try to think what's likely to happen rather than what I'd like to see happen.

If people want to believe things without any genuine evidence that's fine as long as they only get upset with themselves when it doesn't come true and don't kid themselves it's all big bad Stans :-) .

{Ed047's Note - I’ve certainly seen nothing that gives me any belief he’ll be an Arsenal player any time soon.

27 Aug 2020 12:44:37
Me neither Ed047 mate and to be fair I've not yet seen yourself or any of the other Eds get involved in the Gabriel saga claiming to know about him definitely signing for Arsenal or having any of his many medicals or even being in the UK which does beg the question of! Are all the Eds sworn to silence on Gabriel or is there nothing actually factual to tell? :-) .

{Ed002's Note - He will be an Arsenal player once the International clearance arrives and he can be registered on the TMS.}

That will do for me Ed002 thank you.

By this point I think we just need to be more aggressive in our pursuit. We've got to fight for our right to Partey.

New noise of Arteta speaking to Thiago personally. Can you confirm?

Hi Eds, any truth in the rumours that Arsenal are interested in Boubakary Soumare, also of Lille, as an alternative to Partey? He's been linked with everyone at one point or another, so hard to tell if there's any substance to it, certainly looks a good player.

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Boubakary Soumare (DM/CM) - Soumare is being touted around the clubs that have money to spend and several have spoken with Lille but want the €60M asking price reduced. His "agent" (and I use the term loosely) says the player has no interest in joining Spurs or Arsenal but his client is the ideal replacement for Pogba or Kante and is attracted by the money available to players in England. Valencia, Real Madrid and Napoli are others who have been looking at him on a regular basis - but price is an issue. Until the summer Manchester City had an interest since he was at PSG and it was suggested he could fill the role of Yaya Toure well. Monaco saw him as a Bakayoko replacement but have stepped back. Watford pressed Lille last summer but they would not sell and, like Valencia and Real Madrid can be discounted. Brands wanted him at Everton but was forced down the Gbamin route by an advisor - they are looking at another player in preference now. Liverpool were also approached and have discussed the price with his agent. Newcastle and Leicester - and Newcastle were close to a deal in January and may push before the summer to reach an agreement with Lille. There is also an issue to be addressed with Lille's FFP punishment that could impact what happens.}

Surprised he would be interested in a move to Newcastle and not Arsenal. Could end up anywhere by the looks of it.

Thanks for the response Ed.

{Ed002's Note - Newcastle had lengthy discussions with him in January.}

Hi ed02. have arsenal shown any interest in signing denis zakaria?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Last year there was an enquiry.}

Eds.

Have you heard any recent updates as to anyone nearing an exit?
I can't help but think I'm going to wake up one morning and find 3-4 players have gone, possibly wishful thinking.
Also with AMN playing in the friendly, is he really on his way out, or is Arteta having one last look at him before deciding? Seems a bit odd to potentially scupper a decent transfer fee by risking an injury in a friendly.
Finally - do you think the club are going to go for broke this year and go all out to get Arteta some of the players he would like? Obviously they need to shift quite a few to facilitate it. I know they squandered the rainy day fund with Pepe last year, but just wondered if the management see this as a last throw of the dice to get back into the top 4 before they end up in an even bigger hole, and even further behind the league leaders. I can't help but feel (having read Arteta's comments) that there's a 'now or never' attitude surrounding the club. Or again, is it just wishful thinking?

{Ed002's Note - Maitland-Niles remains an Arsenal player but there are interested clubs. There are plenty of players that must be sold. The club are now using potential future earnings from being in the Champions League to help fund purchases - it is very high-risk.}

26 Aug 2020 08:18:12
It's very high risk but I do feel that the club will certainly make the sales and are confident in recuperating those funds. Guendouzi alone will cover the transfer fee of Gabriel and with AMN, Mhki, Lacazette, Holding, Sokratis, Kolasinac and Elneny all rumoured to be leaning towards the exit door it's may not be too bad come the end of the window. I don't like the way it's being done and I don't like the state we are in but we'll see.

26 Aug 2020 10:26:00
Ed when you say it is very high risk, do you not advise it? It seems like an “all or nothing” tactic from arsenal.

{Ed002's Note - It assumes that Arsenal return to the Champions League in 2021 and stay there.}
