The Express newspaper are reporting Djourou as a sumner target for Juventus. As true Arsenal fans we all must pray to our football gods for this to happen it would be the best summer signing for Arsenal Ever!

Believable40 Unbelievable22

Think he's pretty decent back up myself

Agree0 Disagree0

If djourou had no legs he would be a standup defender...lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Djourou was class last season when we were in emergency mode in the back-line. And for the way he played last year, he's been a real class act about dropping to 4th choice center-back.

It boils my blood why our so-called supporters continue bashing a guy, who was a big reason we are in the top 4 this year....

US Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if an amazing offer came in (it won't) then we would have to let him go but otherwise its good to have him with us.
he's been attached to the club for a long time, he's counted as an homegrown and despite last season tailing off awfully and not really recaptured his form of last season when he was pretty darn good he's not a bad back up center back to have on the books.

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be better news if they bought Song and Diaby

Agree0 Disagree0

^^^^your a joke mate, Song is one of our best...

James

Agree0 Disagree0

See some more posts on, running our players down, obviously Spud supporters as I would like think proper Arsenal supporters wouldn't post such stupid remarks. Encourage not run down is the way forward

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok... the Djourou comment is already bad on its own (but justifiable... for a shortsighted person)

the last one about Song and Diaby...WTF!! Diaby, fine...he's injury prone like hell..
but SONG?? are you nuts?!?!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with US Gooner. Everyone forgets he was doing really well until he got injured. I posted something on another board and everyone said he has never played well. Fans have very short memories (I see now the concensus is Theo is great again).

Also, the person who said get rid of Sond. What are you on? One of our best players this season although been a little slack in last few games and would benefit from us buying a proper Def Mid.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed, I was banging on about how Djourou and Kos were the stingiest back pairing in the league when they were paired together (it all went to s**t with his dislocation against Man Utd). All I had to do was go back a year and find everyone praising him... then force feed them and watch them backtrack while they tried to say 'oh we didn't mean he was atrocious, that's just how we were trying to say quite good'

embarrassing and ridiculous. Sad to be a gooner at times

Agree0 Disagree0

No whoever says jd is good enough to be in the red n white you aint a real gooner.
hes fukin pants always was always will be.
evwrytime hes on the squad sheet i get so scared. Hes on level with the squid.
Arsenal is the greatest club and you so called fans expect "ambition"from the board n wenger yet u defend jd wtf is wrong with you.
gimmeg6

Agree0 Disagree0

Gimmeg6 you've obviously only be a fan for a few months if you have never seen JD play well. He was (if only for a few months) playing well last year and we are talking about him being a 4th choice CB (I doubt anyone will claim he is close to being exceptional). Also give him a break. When TV came back to CD he was a little pants for a few games so its hard to come in on and off and do well straight away.

Agree0 Disagree0

Guys and Girls...am sorry it does not make sense to all your squad members be world-class players...they wouldnt stand for it and maystart to feel restless...WIth that in mind, Djourou is a decent squad player and so it is not bad idea to have in your sqaud..considering he can also play as DM...He had a decent season last year so have some vision and look at the overall picture...

THose mentioning DIaby and Song ...come on...am not sure you watch football

ES

Agree0 Disagree0

I have absolutely no problem with djourou being 4th choice cb. If he is happy on the bench, great. Its just unfortunate that our other players are injury prone meaning he gets more game time than i'd like - which would be none at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Djourou is useless, all this he did all right for a month business is nonsence. He has been banging around the Arsenal first team for 6 years. In that time he has convinced 90% of Arsenal fans that he is crap! personly i see nothing in his game. he does not read the game well, he is not great in the air, not good in 1 on 1 situations, is not a leader, crumbles under pressure. Would rather see Miguel as 4th choice and Djourous 50k a week given to VP.

Agree0 Disagree0

Djourou is s**t end off, always liable to score og, give penalties away, pick up stupid needless bookings, this guy cannot even time a tackle properly, get a grip people he is s**t

Agree0 Disagree0

Song is vastly overrated and I wish he could be dropped from the first eleven as he is the weak link in the midfield. Yes every three or four games Song will make and excellent assist but he attempts these through balls over half a dozen times during each match and the vast majority are given away cheaply to the opposition in silly areas (just take Song™s mistimed pass which lead to Everton goal for Drenthe “ which luckily for us was wrongly given offside).

Song isn™t a defensive mdifielder anymore either as he leaves all the defensive work for Arteta (who has been brilliant this season) and I have read a stat the other day that Song is one of the dribbled past players in the league this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Th reason I said Song is because Song is vastly overrated and I wish he could be dropped from the first eleven as he is the weak link in the midfield.

Luke

Agree0 Disagree0

˜˜Djourou is always liable to score og™™ he has scored 1 in 7 years at the club. Even Koscielny has a worse og record than him. ˜˜pick up stupid needless bookings™™ Vermaelen, Koscielny, Rosicky Arteta and RVP all have worse disciplinary records than Djourou this season and give away more fouls per game. ˜˜this guy cannot even time a tackle properly™™ his tackles won p/game ratio is better than Mertesacker™s and not far off Vermaelen™s. It must also be remembered that much of his game time was in RB, out of position, in a period (oct-dec) when we were generally conceding less than 1 goal p/game in the league (apart from the goal glut against Chelsea).

If anyone wants to check these figures, look at any of the decent stats websites (i think ed will remove it if i advertise any particular one!)

I am sick of this Djourou-bashing as if he is 'obviously useless' when the evidence does not back this up! people just watch games, select particular things to notice and create blind emotional responses. The fact is that Djourou is a good, reliable backup. It would be a mistake to throw him out based on poor analysis which is why, unlike many idiotic posters, Wenger sees his value and has held onto him.

Oleg Maputo

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Oleg...
People like to throw abuse without checking the stats...which are readily accessible if one cares to check...he is a Squad Player...and thats Ok...Can you see a world-class defender wanting to wamr the bench as 4th choice...? come on then
Miquel (and possibly Bartley) will be a good defender with one more season in him...he needs to bulk up a bit..but he is football playing defender which the modern game requires these days (look at TV5 and Kos)...
As for those bashing Song...who do you think was important in the early games (i have especially the Qualifying games we had against Udinese) and versatile enough to play in defence when most of our defenders were injured...? Song
Who has provided key assists in crucial games this season...?Song
Sure he lacked focus once or twice but who wouldnt throughout the course of the season...his position requires them to be very fit and there are not many around who has his range of passing and can put in a decent defensive shift...
So again...lets look at the Stats before throwing comments around...

jus out of curiosity what is everyones opinion on Carlos Vela... was really looking forward to seeing more of him and hoped he would get a run out of games...especially when Wenger had said he'd be given a chance and was in his plans a few seasons ago...

Believable21 Unbelievable10

Not suited to this league, talented but a bit like reyes, lightweight. la liga is the place he belongs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Doesn't Suit The English League But Theres Talent There.

Agree0 Disagree0

I personally would not like to see him for one reason, his lack of consistency. He has undeniable quality yes which means he should score more, he doesn't play a full 90 minutes for Sociadad for this reason I believe. In a way because of his quality it means his inconsistency sticks out.

Bermy Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I don't think he is good enough.. Decent but if we were drawing a game we brought him on I wouldn't be over excited! Hopefully he will do well in his career but I don't think he will be at Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

It looks like he is going to Real Soc. for about 3 mln, with a few add-ons. Talented player that never suited the premier league.

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's say Vela plays wing for us. Left or right (obviously can't hold the centre on his own).

I would rather the following before Vela: Walcott, the Ox, Ryo, Gervinho, Benayoun, Lansbury, Ramsey, Rosicky. Not even in that order.

He's alright but the Ox and Ryo are our real up-and-comers IMO, with Walcott nailed down on the other end.

Agree0 Disagree0

I lost all faith in him when arsenal played west ham in the FA cup a few years back. He got into an altercation with diamanti [i think] and he looked physically scared! not cut out for england

Agree0 Disagree0

Not good enough for arsenal i think, had a handful of OK games but not really suited to the EPL, if he was good enough he wouldent be out on loan.

Frimpong on his Ghana trip

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Bit of a t**t tbh..compare him to the likes of afobe..no comparison. i want young players to be like afobe, not clowns like frimpong.

Agree0 Disagree0

DENCH leave it yeah

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont rate frimpong. The guy has got energy for sure, 100% workhorse, but he doesnt have footballing ability much different than players in the lower end of the championship. He might develop..but I dont see it. I hope im wrong, because I can see him at Arsenal for a few more years - even more so after he got his injury, as we love to keep players who cant play.

i'm expecting great things to happen in the summer.

first of all, there are very promising signs already. podolski seems very likely, also some stories about vertonghen could come true (although i still think we would do well without him but he's an improvement, no doubt). also these clear-out stories seem very good.

podolski and vertonghen in right when the international window opens, that would be great. then as much dead-wood out as possible. then we should focus to get an attacking mid in. goetze is now available only for 40mil or even more i think. but my target no1 is honda anyway. i really hope we get him because he fits perfectly to our style and covers many positions. he's at his prime and ready to deliver!

also a back-up keeper would be good. there are lots of options like mcgregor and adler. as a finn i still go with jaaskelainen though.

iceman

Believable23 Unbelievable12

Would prefer Kawaga over Honda, but think he will extend with Dortmund now that Gotze has.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would agree and i like ur choice i likee honda hes a perfect replacement 4 likes of arshavin .

Agree0 Disagree0

To me it would represent one of the best transfer windows in a long long time if we do manage the dealings you mention.

Bermy Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

I know what you mean bermy. i just have a really good feeling all this could actually happen... the way the team has played this season, the fighting attitude has been really strong. it seems like a more decisive and ruthless arsenal era has begun and hopefully that reflects our dealings too.

iceman

Agree0 Disagree0

LOL Adler won't sit on the bench (by choice) for any club in the world. Believe me. I am 99% correct on that one.

Stefan

Agree0 Disagree0

One question WHY are you expecting big things we always do and nothing happens apart from signing another 12 year old or Van persies 2 year old son LOL

The Daily Mail, The Sun, The Telegraph and ESPN - All of them are running with the story I pretty much posted here, five days ago... Here's an excerpt:

"Arsenal want to clear out fringe players currently costing the club £23million a year in wages as Arsene Wenger prepares for a summer spending splurge...

...Andrey Arshavin, who earns £75,000 per week, Marouane Chamakh, who gets £60,000 per week, and Sebastien Squillaci, Nicklas Bendtner, Denilson and Carlos Vela, who are paid £50,000 per week, can all leave...

...Arsene Wenger plans to rush through new transfers to avoid a repeat of last summer's deadline chaos.

The Arsenal boss made a mess of his 2011 dealings and had to sign Mikel Arteta, Andre Santos and Per Mertesacker on the transfer window's final day.

But Wenger is intending to snap up Cologne striker Lukas Podolski for £11million in the next 48 hours.

And he could also splash £10m on Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen, £6m on Montpellier forward Olivier Giroud and up to £17m on Rennes playmaker Yann M'Vila just weeks after the end of the season."

===========================

Now... Unless I saw into the future maybe people will stop doubting me so much about what I hear and am told?

=Miss Arsenal.

Believable32 Unbelievable10

Its obscene money... jeez i can sort of understand why arsh was on big bucks but the rest of them - who in their right mind offered the rest of them that? squid on 50k a week to sit on the bench, park(the most ridiculous signing in our history) on 40k a week....
vela on 50k i mean wtf was the club thinking? when he's not on loan he doesnt even make the bench, he's earning the same as arteta....

i hope this signals a change in philosophy when it comes to the wage structure. these players aren't worth half what they're paid and its because of this s**t that we cant offer the players we need to keep competetive wages.
AG

Agree0 Disagree0

Re Park - wouldnt surprise me if we more than covered his wages on shirt sales and other Korean related income alone.

Sometimes you have to look a little deeper.

May be wrong, but sure i saw somewhere that Arshavin is in the top 10 shirt sellers in the prem league at the moment.

Rob G

Agree0 Disagree0

Just because it's in the paper, doesn't mean it's true. You do realise this, don't you?

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair the squid was a proven player with a good record B$ he came to us on paper he was a good player he just floped at Arsenal

RG

Agree0 Disagree0

"Just because it's in the paper, doesn't mean it's true. You do realise this, don't you?"

Did you happen to miss the fact that I posted this information an entire working week prior to it appearing, in the paper?

Just wondering...

=M.A.

Agree0 Disagree0

What u say is mostly accurate but 6 mil for Giroud! U obviously no nothing of this player

Agree0 Disagree0

"What u say is mostly accurate but 6 mil for Giroud! U obviously no nothing of this player"

Read the post... I personally did not once say he was going for 6m. But actually as it stands Arsenal could get him for not much more (around 8.5/9m Minus add-ons)

=M.A.

Agree0 Disagree0

Posting that arsenal intend to get rid of dead wood??...is this really news?? they have been trying to do that since before this season started but couldnt so put them most out on loan??

hope you are right about the players coming in tho

...el fenomeno

Agree0 Disagree0

I would love gitoud at arsenal we have been missing that kind of player absolute quality imagine giroud infront of our very own r.v.p with podolski lurking around the left.... A!

Agree0 Disagree0

How come we can get him so cheap?

Agree0 Disagree0

Half the football world could of predicted that way before the papers

Nothing new here

Agree0 Disagree0

Right you almost had me until you put Giroud for £6mill. LEAVE IT. BACK. TO. THE. DRAWING. BOARD. GoonerDan

Agree0 Disagree0

M.A., do you think, if he becomes available, that Belhanda is a more likely choice than M'Vila? I personally think Belhanda would offer more creativity that we are striving for, and is cheaper, but I'm not in the boardroom for a reason.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure he made a mess of summer signings - arteta pretty decent imo

Agree0 Disagree0

Silly non-believers. LISTEN to Miss Arsenal. My sources are agents/friends in the football world, but Miss Arsenal is very credible.

I am actualyl quite surprised at the Giroud news. I thought our main target from that team would be Belhanda and the verstile defender (forgetting his name)

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

Will be difficult to get rid of the big earners. Wages are quite high for some very average players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Giroud is not a target now Podolski has signed. Would be hugely surprised if he is signed. He'd cost too much when it's considered that a midfielder, maybe two, will come back after Podolski.

Agree0 Disagree0

"Right you almost had me until you put Giroud for £6mill. LEAVE IT. BACK. TO. THE. DRAWING. BOARD."

GoonerDan do you even PAY ATTENTION, to the thread?

Did *I* say 6m? No... READ IT, that whole 2-3 paragraphs was from the newspapers.

But actually AW HAS approached Montpellier and put the value of 6m forward. I heard this about 11:30pm last night - It won't happen but you have to start low to get a decent price...

I also do believe, to answer the question asked, that Belhanda is more likely the option over M'Vila.

=M.A.

Agree0 Disagree0

Miss Arsenal, do you think Belhanda is available? Will we pursue him hard enough to get him? How do you think he ranks on the mids that we have a realistic shot at getting?

= Scot Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeh but wenger will probably keep all the players we want out as he always has belief in his players

Hi Ed,

More of a question then a rumour - but why is it, that we are not linked Christian Eriksen.

Surely he will not cost 35mln like Gotze or Hazard and he is not far behind them in terms of skill.

I would be very excited about a midfield of Eriksen, Wilshire, Song.

Which would be be supported by the experience of Rosicky, Arteta and further cover from Coquelin, Ramsey, Diaby.

Furthermore we have a good relationship with Ajax and the Berkhamp connection.

Billybob {Ed002's Note - Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and AC Milan have shown an interest in Eriksen. He has already rejected both Manchester City and Chelsea but AC Milan remain the most interested club. The Milan Press Office are convinced of interest from Manchester United and they have let it be known that they expect a bid to be made by for Eriksen who remains adament that he will stay in Amsterdam for two more years before moving to Spain. Expect AC Milan and Roma to press if a bid is made by Manchester United.}

Believable11 Unbelievable2

Thanks for clarifying. I wish we could convince him to come to Arsenal. As exciting as Gotze and Hazard. Excellent vision and full of tricks. Reminds me of Zidane.

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

If bergkamp doesnt put in a good word for arsenal to eriksen, then there is no reason why he would choose us over milan utd etc.

Juventus apparently interested in Djourou. This sounds like so much rubbish it might actually be true lol. So if him and squid go...high chance of us getting Vertonghen.

Hi guys,

All those slating Ben for saying Goetze is not coming next this summer should just hold off for a while. I remember a certain C.Fabregas signing a 5 year contract only to be sold the following year. Not saying its still going to happen, just that its not impossible just because he signed an extension. Maybe we will have to pay a little more for him, maybe he will come next year or in January. Who really knows? Its all media hype at the moment.

Aussie Gunnah.

Believable11 Unbelievable6

I think Gotze would actually like to see what happens with the Dortmund project. It has all the makings for a very successful future.

Great young squad, with solid defence/midfield/attack.

They have already made the addition of Marco Reus.

Massive fan base and a reasonably wealthy club - great stadium.

Good tradition and reasonably successful history.

Bayern vs Dortmund could become a more exciting race than Barca/Real Madrid.

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

This is a fair point of course! This happens a fair bit. Modric signed a 5 year deal with spuds and after 1 year he put in a TF request.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cesc wanted to join his hometown club who were playing well and winning trophies. Gotze's already at his hometown club, who are playing well and are winning league titles.

It's not quite the same situation.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also - if Dortmund can get Dzeko, there attack will look fantastic:

Gotze Reus Kagawa
Dzeko

That is a talented group.

Ed, is there any truth in the belhanda rumours? {Ed002's Note - My understanding is that Arsenal would be interested in Belhanda should he become available. Aside from that there is unconfirmed interest from Inter and Roma.}

Believable6 Unbelievable4

From what I hear from a friend/agent in Bordeaux - the player is definitely looking to move.

Montpillier have asked the player to focus on winning the league if possible and to stay quiet until afterwards. There are several suitors, but Montpiller will happily sell him and Giroud to PSG and use the money to further develop their squad.

As such, we are not first in line from the club's perspective - but Belhanda would prefer to go abroad with Arsenal high on his list.
