Bolton wanted 15m i think. ed001 the comment two above said a precontract agreement in jan meaning he will sign in summer {Ed002's Note - He cannot sign a pre-contract agreement in January with a club from England or Wales. Anywhere else, yes.}

I posted on here several weeks ago that cahill will sign for arsenal next summer for free with a massive signing on fee about 5 million, just as we did with sol campbell, expect him to sign a pre-contract agreement after january 1st.

I agree the bid wasnt great but cahill is NOT worth 15 million especially with only 1 year on his contract. if we get him and i think we will expect him to be a freebie next summer. a replica scenario of the chamakh deal. except cahill would be a massivly better deal than chamakh - another wenger flop signing

SSN - According to Lyon President - Arsenal made a last mintue bid for Gourcuff on loan. But they wanted to keep hold of him and help him recover from operation.

Gourcuff is a sensational player and would have been the perfect solution to fill the gap that FAB has left. (as long as he recovers properly)

Also shows the club were trying for big names with quality.

P.S...Anyone who doesnt rate Gourcuff should seriously quit football & take up Rugby.

Asking to loan a player that would never in a million years be allowed to go on loan isn't "trying" very hard

I keep hearing since the transfer window closed how many players Arsenal were after in the last few hours.It seems to me that we have to wait till the big boys have got what they want,and we go for whats left.

He is injured at the moment, just got an operation to his ankle 1 month ago. He had 2 pretty bad seasons in a row. Lyon agreed to loan him to us untill Roma came with 10M for Pjanic so they had to keep hold of Gourcuff. They wanted to get ride of one of their midlefielder cuz they highly rated yougster Grenier didn't want to sign a new contract untill he was sure that one of them would be gone.

Gourcuf is very overated by the french press, and outside france, but honnestly he is just an average player who had 2 good seasons in his carrier that's it.

Read this morning that Arteta was a Gazidis signing and not Wenger. Two things if true.

1 - the board have grown some nuts and stood up to Wenger

2 - the board have lost faith in project youth and perhaps Wenger

Guess we'll see as the season progresses

Not convinced by this one. Wenger is French as he will be as stubborn as hell and would prob walk if that was the case.

It was actually wenger who ressurected the deal!!

I think this is wrong, SSN reported that when Wenger was told the deal was off, he intervened personally to get the deal done. Arsenal were offering Arteta 3 year deal he wanted 4, he wanted £90K (was earning £75K) and were offering £55K, If anything Wenger had had enough of Richard Law cocking up the transfer negotiations - Mata and Alvarez and almost Campbell

I very much doubt this- as some has already suggested, he would walk, I have very little doubt about that.

even at his age i think we should sign sol campbell as cover .free agent who trains with us and his experience hopefully would rub off on djourou-koscielny

I think this is a good idea. Our defence would benefit from him in training and perhaps in the reserves.
