For me wenger did the right thing tonight we have already qualified and he left all the players we need in the league game at home ready for the fight on the weekend. I'm not to bothered about the result tonight i mean we do the same thing nearly every season we qualify with a game to go he plays a few kids and we lose the game so i ain't taking to much notice of this game. i think wenger has had he's mind on the weekend more than this game tonight so i don't think it will bother him that much he will be putting all he's energy in for the weekend to make sure we get a good result and i have a feeling we will show up for the weekend (hopefully). when you look at things more closely yes we have been playing bad lately but we are only 5 points from 3rd place and we have prop got the best games all through December to try and change things around but if nothing has changed after the Christmas period then we can start to worry.

COME ON ARSENAL

Charlie Gooner 4 Life

Believable49 Unbelievable7

I really admire your optimism but we are also only 4 points ahead of 14th place. We have only beaten Spurs recently, and only did that becasue Adebayor helped us. I will stay positive and hope for a run of 6 straight wins (which should be achievable) although last week I was hoping it would be 7 straight wins and then Swansea murdered us.
Let's pray for the win against WBA otherwise I feel we are doomed this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Look at the facts. 4 wins in the last 13 games. A scrappy 1-0 against bottom side QPR, a 7-5 away win at Reading in the Crap Cup (yes, we let 5 in), a win against 10 men Spurs (when we were being outplayed until Ade got sent off) and a very uninspiring 2-0 win against Montpelier who finished bottom of our CL group. This is not good enough for a club like Arsenal with a squad of Internaitonal Players. We are now looking at the West Brom game with trepidation - says it all really. Time to clear out all the useless fringe players and also Gervinho and Ramsey who are frankly awful as was proved last night.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank god, someone looking at the situation with some composure. 5pts of 3rd and 4pts of 14th we may be but its early days and thats the nature of the league atm IAWT

Eds, is the prospect of Llorente completely off? Read an article today in which he says he will not renew his contract in June and will be seeking other opportunities. Could we get him with a cut price offer or has that ship sailed? We desperately need attacking options and he is complete class.

-Birmingham Gooner {Ed001's Note - I think he is unlikely to be moving to Arsenal. Certainly they are not amongst the likely destinations I was told, which were all Italian.}

Believable3 Unbelievable4

Who wants him 17 goals in 30+ games NOPE he would be lucky to get 8 in the prem demba ba would be arsenals best chance, proven in the prem fast tricky and scores plenty.

Hi Ed, do you expect one of either Klaas-Jan Huntelaar or Adrian Lopez to sign in january? If not, who do you believe could be the alternatives? {Ed001's Note - nope, I don't expect anyone right now. The players running their contract down all seem to have the intention of waiting until it has ended and exploring their options then. As of now they do anyway.}

Believable4 Unbelievable8

Huntelaar exactly what we need no showboating just 1 chance in the back of the net also should forget about the goetze and them type make a real example of intent and do whatever it takes to get fellanni beast natural leader

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry ed, slightly confused, are you saying you expect arsenal to sign no one in january or do you mean you dont know who to expect? {Ed001's Note - I mean I don't know who to expect, though I am not expecting Arsenal to do much business.}

champagne charlie, you know how you say if we kept say persie and song we'd be very close, i totally agree but if he signed vp say in may to a new deal do you think podolski and giroud would have been signed? we wouldnt have got them as there was no need 3 words

Lack of ambition

Yorkshire gooner Joe :D

Believable23 Unbelievable5

Podolski was bought as arshavins replacement.

we needed a another striker because the situation with park and chamahk.

so i would say yes they would of been signed.

arsene admitted he took a gamble and this is what really P***ED me off.after all these years of having to go with out because of the stadium and finally we have a bucket load of money to spend and he takes a gamble.

champagne charlie

Agree1 Disagree0

The Podolski deal was done and dusted long before before RVP left. Giroud may not have been brought in, but Podolski would be here regardless.

As far as Song is concerned, replacing him would have been nice. He was a tough guy in the center. Arteta and Jack just don't give what Song had.

Charlie, Metal,

Just bringing this up to the top, £100 million would be not far off for this window, it's there, the team needs it. This isn't about whether we like or hate Arsene and the board it's about getting Arsenal back to the top.

Arsene by all accounts went ape at the press and was quoted as saying what a fantastic club we are, what a great position finacially we are in etc etc but the single most daunting thing he said was we had a "GOOD" team.

When has a GOOD team won the league or the champions league, we need to spend to make this team great like previous Arsenal teams who had the mark of greatness.

They cant continue to close their eyes to this and do nothing but it seems that's exactly what they'll do.

Next thing we'll be signing BECKHAM because he sells shirts and makes money for the business.

Stoner

Believable18 Unbelievable6

If he's going to spend that kind of money he really needs to get rid of the dead wood in that side just to free up some of the wage bill!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lads... All of Arsene's comments and quotes are for the benefit of the players, NOT us fans. He's trying to keep up morale within the team. Currently it ain't working. If I hear him say "Strong Spirit" or "Mental Strength" I know he's whistling in the dark.
It's becoming an embarrassment. Please spend in January !

Agree1 Disagree0

He will spend stoner if he is still at the club come january.

i know for a fact he has tried to sign quality players in the past couple of years but we have come up short because wenger would not give IVAN the go ahead to spend the extra 1-5 million that was required to close the deal.

he is running the show completely and he has the final say.

i would not look to far into his argument with the press he knows he has signed some awful players but i suppose he has to stick by them as long as their at the club.

january will tell the whole story.

watch out for the BASTIAN!!!

champagne charlie

Agree0 Disagree1

Charlie I respect the fact that you speak your mind with giving a rubbish what others think. We share a lot of the same opinions etc but PLEASE do not buy into the fact that we'll sign Schweinsteiger. Maybe you're just messing but we all know this is Arsenal we are talking about, Wenger we are talking about.

I just fear if you believe that, you will end up bitterly disappointed. Best keep the feet on the ground pal, don't wanna float away with the rest of these clueless dullards who come on here every transfer window and actually believe we'll sign the BIG names we have been linked with/need - Götze, Navas, Cavani, Schweinsteiger et al.

It has not and will not happen under Wenger (unless he is forced)!

This is not pessimism but realism. Nobody has ANY reason to believe we'll splash massive cash in January.

Love it - 2.30pm on the dot and not a single formation or positive post about tonight's game - says it all.

Oh well at least I can watch the game from the comfort of my sofa as opposed to the comfort of my office chair.

Metal Gooner

Believable3 Unbelievable5

Well got nothing to do with Arsenal at the moment, but those mourinho Exit talks are beginning to make more and more sense....

From what i hear they want Wenger.

not sure if he will go out there, but perhaps us pushing him out the door will lead him to take that option.

lets just cool the heat awhile...lets wait a few more games to decide...for the rubbishe players we have we do ok...and lets not pretend ....we dont have money.

Hello from Munich,

I work here in the sports industry and the rumour mills are picking up speed as the transfer window gets closer. Bastian Schweinsteiger looks to be leaving in January, Man United and Arsenal have both enquired about his availability. It is widely rumoured that if Bayern cannot match is contract demands that he will favour a move to Arsenal ahead of Manchester United. He believes that with the growing contingent of German players at Arsenal, he will feel well at home. The set up of Arsenal football club is also similar to that of Bayern and this is also a plus. Arsenal are believed to try whatever it takes to close this deal as the looming kit sponsorship contract with Addidas, or rather the size of that contract, depends on this transfer.

Once I have more I will update.

Insideman

Believable20 Unbelievable36

There is no way arsenal would match his wage demands.....
would love it though...

Bastian is on E9.8m p.a - that's 160,000 per week in our money - don't see Arsenal paying that for a midfielder.

I kow we've already qualified out of the group, but we need a win tonight to have any chance of avoiding the big teams in the next round ie Barca, Milan etc. I appreciate that Wenger has to rest players to focus on getting a result at the weekend, but the squad we've been left with for tonight looks shocking. Its full of youngsters who've never played in europe before, and there's no proven goalscorer. I may be wrong, and hopefully I am, but I can't see this squad getting 3 points away from home.
Why hasn't Wenger rested players on a rotation rather than waiting until gameweek 6 and resting pretty much everyone?

Believable9 Unbelievable4

I agree, I don't like this move. I also feel he could be cutting off his nose to spite his face as if we fail to win on Saturday he has no more excueses he can use apart from blaming the fans and/or Mr Bould.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well they might well sign Becks... after all, they signed Park for the chinese merchandise fan base/shirt sales... has he even started or been on the bench? What a waste of 45,000 a week. That would need 2,000,000 in shirt sales with his name on the back to get close to breaking even... fottballing and economical disaster.

can i ask arsenal fans what they think on theo walcotts situation should we give him the contract he wants? him an carzola are the 2 best players at the minute

Believable22 Unbelievable6

100% Give him his contract. He is our top scorer and the premierships leading assister. Saving 0.5m - 1m a year on his wages is nothing compared to losing a 15m - 20m player to our competition. Pay the money now and if we must sell him for a decent fee in the future.
All this could irrelevant athough as we are clearly never going to give him a run upfront and Wenger is a compulsive liar!

Agree0 Disagree0

I toatally agree letting theo go would be a big mistake why! do arsenal always fail to keep there big players? its hard to say this but is wenger still the man to carry us forward ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Walcott has had no intention signing a new deal for a very long time. All the crap he comes out with on tv "It's in the hands of my advisors" totally non-commital. If Arsenal (if you believe Walcott's PR machine) haven't tried to negotiate a deal but he wanted to stay, then why doesn't he come out and say just that "I want to stay at Arsenal, I will sign a new deal". Bear in mind he's play ok at the moment, not great, ok. He was non-existent against Swansea, he should step up and prove his worth to the club by grabbing the game by the balls and making things happen. Don't get me wrong, I like Theo, I feel that when he doesn't play we miss him, we lack penetration. However, I'm fed up of players who are average, or a bit better than average trying to demand money that the're overall game doesn't justify. He knows that when he moves on he'll get anywhere between 5-10 million signing on fee, no doubt Liverpool, Newcastle, Chelsea or the Spuds will be happy to pay that, to be honest he ain't good enough for Chelsea. I do think he's been wasted on the right wing though, I'd have loved to see him on the left wing or left forward, to see what he could do with his pace and being on his natural side. Arsene loves to take a player and change their position, Can't wait to see Sir Ches up front tonight and Jack Wilshire in goal. Arsenal forever!

Arsene Wenger has caught PSG's eye and they are looking to take him to the Parc des Princes. If this does happen I think it would be brilliant. Wenger has done well for us but his time here is up. With the likes of RDM and Pep out of a job right now I think they would bring class to our amazing football club, also Jose Mourinho out of a job in summer he would also be great.

wenger is gonna take a risk on downing from liverpool

Believable5 Unbelievable42

If Wenger signs Downing, he has truly lost his marbles. We need Reina, Baines, Fellaini, Zaha, Huntelaar & tall right-side commanding centre back.
We need to sell/release: Mannone, Fabianski, Santos, Squilacci, Djourou, Chamakh, Bentner, Denilson, etc!

Agree0 Disagree0

^^ Agree although I would sign Luke Shaw instead of Baines and maybe Ba over Huntelaar. Fellaini is what we need!

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely want Fellaini, massive hole that he would fit perfectly. Him, Carzorla, Ba, Walcott Podolski and Giroud...that sounds like a top attacking line up

Agree0 Disagree0

We ont need Saha. Just another spoiled kid.

ed r we in for isco not sure if your answered this before but it will be good to take advantage of there financial problems in spain i think he will add that 3 flowing football plus you can rest santi and play him it will give us options {Ed002's Note - Barcelona, Manchester City, Juventus and Spurs have shown an interest in Isco and he came close to a move to Dortmund, who may still follow up the matter. I suspect AC Milan might look to the player as well. There were rumours of interest from Real Madrid and Arsenal. Malaga want 21M euros but will likely accept 15M euros if they are forced to sell. I would suspect Juventus and Manchester City are best placed right now. A move in January is by no means certain.}

sometimes you got to love the press for deluding football fans its clear to see arsenal an easy team to pick on and its the best time to do it now due to form and transfer activities. what your going to get now intill the start of the window we will be linked to every player who is running down there contract im waiting for them to say beckhams coming hmm

hmm now guys many will differ on this i really dont believe zaha or lopez is the answer to arsenal problems zaha is something for the future when we need to be looking for a now player and for £12mil or so not what we need right now and adrian lopez £15mil is he the real deal mainly subbed for A madrid .
your opinion guys as money a problem are these guys the answers

Believable16 Unbelievable1

Hes only being played as sub because of his contrac situations (hes refusing to sign one) he was a regular last year and well

Agree0 Disagree0

For me Adrian Lopez is not a big improvement on what we have.

Is he better than podolski/giroud? I don't think so.

I would rather we stretch our budget a little but and go for someone with a bit more class.

Willian, jovetic... Wages could be a problem.

Not worried about cup tied because no way are we winning champs this year!

Lopez also has to compete against falcao for a starting spot...

Well that squad selection for tomorrow is a total bottle job. Tired my arse, we've just got to December, I don't recall many games where the team have over exerted itself, more just bimbled around aimlessly.
I am sick to the teeth of the sh!t Wenger has come out with. For years its been embarrassing, now its going beyond that, mental strength/spirit/quality - we have little of any. Then he goes on about 'qualifying' for the cl as a trophy? No its not. Winning the cl is a trophy, getting knocked out in the second round, which will almost certainly be the case again, is not a trophy.

AG

Believable27 Unbelievable3

1) the players have apparently stated that they are tired which can happen if u run over 8 km every game (e.g wilshere, arteta) so a rest is not a bad idea

2) with regards to the champions league: it is unlikely that schalke who have been in fine form will drop points against montpellier( already bottom of group) so why push those players that are apparently tired to play in a game whose outcome is most likely not going to influence the rankings too much unless we lose dramatically. It is a high risk strategy I admit

Agree0 Disagree0

Err I seem to remember Wenger saying he'd take a full strength team post match interview, so yes, he has bottled it and flip flopped. Don't talk aboutrisk assessment on this one, we finish second, we almost certainly get knocked out next round, we finish first we have a slightly better chance of progressing further, that's the only risk assessment you need
AG

Agree0 Disagree0

Again ...

It does not matter what team we field because we are already second!
It is not in our control whether we come up top as (again) it depends on Schalke's performance..which has been consistent so far...

So again...looking at it properly...why risk your players on a game (when a rest would be good for them) that does not matter...come on...think

Agree0 Disagree0

I am sorry but the players say they are tired - bless them, on nearly 100K a week and the life of luxury it must be hard for them! If they are tired, then maybe they should get off their playstations earlier - pathetic excuses!

Agree0 Disagree0

Only one team can win the Champions League or Cup and there are 3 better squads/teams (at least) than Arsenal in the League and AT LEAST 10 in the Champions League. Why do you think you are entitled to win it? Or feel as though your club should be genuinely competing? Even if you spend 50m in January, you should be happy with a forth place finish and a decent run in the Champions League. Please come back to reality Mr Arsenal fan!!
