Hi one and all, I posted yesterday that Fernando Torres has bought a place near Podolski in North London. I didn't say he was signing and normally, until I see them wear the shirt, I am always sceptical.
Fact is, the odds for him signing have gone from 100-1 ( yesterday) to 5-2 Paddy Power (today).

Believable21 Unbelievable38

Jose mourinho says he wants to build his attack around Torres, I doubt he's for sale if that's the case. {Ed027's Note - register please

Agree0 Disagree0

He also said Rooney will be his #1 striker.
And. I'll register now. {Ed027's Note - cheers bud

Agree0 Disagree0

If torres comes I think wenger could buy him for around £15 to £20 mill, I still think the price tag of £50 mill is what destroyed him as a striker,

also already registered

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be a great signing IMO. our style of play would really suit him and could see him back at the top of his game

Agree0 Disagree1

In his day, he rivalled any striker, however, last time I watched him I felt quite sad for him, I mused, mental issues? shot hamstrings?, whatever the cause, the monkey on his back has well and truly taken its toll, that and his age 29? I think not. shame though

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't mind Torres but Arsenal fans are far worse than Chelsea fans when it comes to criticizing players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Best striker in the world when he was at Athletico and not far off in his early days at 'pool. Never really gelled with Drogba and confidence just drained. If he could recover something like that form I would welcome his arrival.

Agree0 Disagree0

Id not be surprised in that it would be a disappointing rivals cast off AND a big name. Therefore making everyone right, sort of.

Agree0 Disagree0

What was Higuains odds?

Heard that arsenal are prepared to loan miquel and Yennaris on loan to leicester city, hopefully this is to mike room for a new CB.

Sorry I don't think either will become first team players,

Agree1 Disagree0

In the past 6 weeks we have sold/loaned 26 players to other clubs. that's a lot of money we have received and a huge amount slashed off the wage bill, so come on arsene, deliver what you promised.
I do believe we are the only team in the prem to have, so far, not spent a penny.
wheres the promised spending spree? {Ed027's Note - register please

Agree1 Disagree0

Granted.

The spending spree money is sitting pretty with the money acquired from loans, sales and even more disgrace, season ticket holders!

It will be quite interesting to see who we will get in the CL qualifiers on Friday. I wonder if the money earned with qualifying and that's a big if for qualification will continue to build interest?

One of the many disillusioned fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

Considering injuries at the back at the moment, I can't see us offloading Miquel. Yennaris maybe, as he gets about 2 cup games a year at the moment. But even if we bought Williams/another CB, need to hold onto Miquel

Ciprian Marica is apparently close to signing with Arsenal, according to his agent, Giovani Becali.

"It is close to Arsenal, we'll see this week. "

Now before anyone else brings it up, he has never scored more than 11 goals in a season. However, I would like to draw your attention to the following:

Both Bendtner and Chamakh will be leaving the club, along with Park Chu Young. So we need experienced backup in the striker position, as I believe Akpom and Sanogo will only play in cup games, but mostly the reserves.

He scored 6 in 11 last season. To me that shows that if given the game time he can score goals.

This may be just another agent talking s**t, but don't be too disappointed if we sign another free-be. {Ed027's Note - if we sign him as well as another class striker, i'm not complaining

Believable11 Unbelievable32

Couldn't agree more Ed. We need players to improve the squad, but as soon as one comes along you can bet your house they'll moan 'til the sun goes down. And he's free! Nothing wrong with a free player now and again. At worst we can make some profit if it doesn't work out. {Ed027's Note - course, but if he signs now, people will go mad, and say that no Suarez because we have Marica now. But we could do with him, he's different to Giroud and Suarez, he likes to play off the striker, and can play on the wing

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't believe anyone thinks this is a good deal!

What's the point?

He'll just be another donkey we'll end up labelling 'deadwood'.

Backwards thinking in my eyes. Really really stupid. {Ed027's Note - he's free, we need quantity as well as quality

Agree1 Disagree0

Is he any good ed hope its true better then no 1 and are the nani rumours got any truth {Ed027's Note - Wenger has looked at Nani a few weeks back, Marica is average, will get you a few goals here and there, he'd make up the numbers

Agree0 Disagree0

The problem with Marica is that the is not good enough for a top team. He was a benchwarmer at Schalke and will be Another Park for us. We, the fans, are in our rights to be absolutely livid if we sign players like this after being promised "big" signings.

We already have four strikers, five if we Count Walcott, and don't need Another deadwood. We need quality and reinforcements in other areas. DM and GK should be the prioroty. {Ed027's Note - he would be another Park, maybe targeting the Romanian market? I think he's captain

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed, I totally disagree. We need 5 quality players.

GK, CB/RB, CDM, LW, ST.

Then we should be bringing in the likes of Abdulrahman, Perez, Sanogo to make up the numbers.

Not some "never has been, never will be" that will be as hard as Bendtner etc to shift.

We have plenty of cash now, no need AT ALL to be scouring the bargain bin anymore. Young players with potential like the names above is fine by me.

But to sign someone that age with very little to offer is absurd and I will lose my sh!t if it happens! {Ed027's Note - very true

he's not the big signing we want but how long have we fallen short because of a lack of squad depth? if we go out and sign a real proven class forward and have this guy as backup/alongside him I won't complain. it'd be nice if he turned out to be the romanian henry though

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd rather us play Walcott or Podolski upfront or them and the ox ahead of this guy.

He is 27 and the most goals he's scored in one season is 11!

He is deadwood we are better off playing a youngster who would be fearless and run at defenders.

Who cares if he is a captain for his country if he can only score 11 goals for the whole season in all competitions I don't want him.

Agree0 Disagree0

With ni gooner on this one.
If we buy Suarez well have
Giroud
Suarez
Podolski
Sanogo
Walcott
Akpom

Who can play cf. Its definately quality rather than quantity that we need.

AG

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think we need more players just to make up numbers. Look at the currennt first team squad and we have (taken from official website), Woj, Fab, Sagna, Nacho, Per, Jenks, TV, Gibbs, Kos, Rosicky, Santi, Arteta, Diaby, Jack, Frimpong, Ramsey, Ryo, Pod, Giroud, Theo, Ox and Sanogo.

Thats 22 which is about what most squads are. Jose when he first took over Chelsea publicly said he wanted a squad of about 21/22 players).

Probably can't count on Diaby or Frimpong so I'd say we need one defender, one defensive midfielder and one forward (all of top quality). We would then have the numbers and quality.

We also have some great youngster like Bellerin, Gnarby etc. who can add to it too.

So I really don't think we need players for the sake of numbers. We need players of top quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't see wenger risking any players this summer, he will be going for people with obvious talent, he can't risk a backlash from the fans with transfers like park, santos and squillaci

Heard from a source inside palace that chamakh to them on a 6 month loan is done. I thought AW only wanted him and Gervinho to go in permanent deals but 6 months loan is what i'm told.

Another player off the wage bill for now. will we ever sign some quality players though?

Rob-essex

Believable20 Unbelievable5

It was supposed to be a loan but they agreed it will b permanent. That's what I read yesterday at least. Can't complain though either way.
Good times!

I believe that as he only has a year left on his contract it basically means he won't play for arsenal again #yippee ;)

Just off the phone from a friend who 'claims' to be itk. He does seem to have his ear pressed to the right walls on occasion. It seems that Liverpool are resigned to Suarez leaving but are not letting him go cheaply. Question is how much is the AFC board willing to pay?

Believable17 Unbelievable13

Stating the obvious? They also would rather sell abroad

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure it is that obvious actually. I'm sure they would prefer him to stay!

Freiburg have rubbished the stories that we have agreed a deal for Ginter, stating that they have no intention at all of selling the player.

Next!.

Believable34 Unbelievable13

This more than likley will be Them and Arsenal, trying to prevent a counter offer from elsewhere, so no complications.

Mark

Agree0 Disagree1

Why would Freiburg not want a possibly higher counter offer?

Agree1 Disagree0

Clubs tend to have agreements like this in place, like coquelin going to them may be part of the deal etc.

Like podolski deal, Wenger denied it all the way until it was done.

Mark

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah clubs often deny, wouldn't take too much notice.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope we sign him, he looks like a good player

It is being reported that we are going to sign Nani. Since, setting our targets on Big Club rejects is precisely what we should not be doing in order to compete with those same Big Clubs, I am confident that this is more than a rumour and is more probable than signing Suarez or Cesc.

#WengerOut

Believable14 Unbelievable49

Why not just get nani, loic remy, defoe, darren bent, titus bramble and teddy sheringham. that would be the arsenal we know.
chas

Agree0 Disagree0

I understand the frustration but is all the negativity and "Wenger out" really going to help. Back your club and the manager that has done so much for our club as well as English Football. If nothing happens before the end of the transfer period I too will be upset but I have faith we will do something and faith in Wenger and I find it disrespectful to say Wenger out considering what he has done

Agree3 Disagree0

This is such a throw away comment. Please let me remind you Bergkamp (inter milan), Vierra (AC Milan), Fabregas (barcelona youth), Henry (Juventus), Ljunberg (Swedish league), Dixon (Stoke city), Anelka (PSG youth) - all these players considered rejects and not going anywhere fast. Allow Wenger to do his stuff but he has to remember that success doesn't come cheap, but you don't have to spend a GDP to archieve it.

Agree2 Disagree0

Arshavin, Diaby, Denilson, Bendtar, Chamakh, Gervinho and so on…remind again: Who signed them?
This is recent history, not the past.
You can put the man on a pedestal and worship him if you like…but remember that we won nothing for a very long time and not playing the scintillating that we used to.
Wizzy {Ed027's Note - Register your name please Wizzy

Agree1 Disagree1

Recent history is all very well and good, I myself would of course have liked to gain some silverware the past 8 seasons. However, Arsharvin did not perform how he should, Diaby has been curtailed by serious injury that has led to a dip in performance (see Eduardo), Denilson was a Brazil u21 captain, Chamakh was Ligue 1 top scorer in the championship side the season before we bought him. Whilst I understand your frustration, as with the second and third posters, Wenger knows better than us all and has developed the club into the one of the strongest in the world. By that I mean, financially with the stadium, and on our day, we still play football that most cannot live with. There are four weeks remaining in the window, let's perhaps reassess then and not now. I couldn't think of an argument in favour of Gervinho. ;)
Oh - and I will register soonest!

Babygorilla

Agree0 Disagree0

You got to be kidding me: I don't know about all the names you have mentioned. But Fabregas, Henry & Anelka were not rejects. They were young players. Henry had already won a world cup. Fabregas and Anelka were 16. Also when was Stoke City and Swedish league clubs considered big clubs. Talk about throw away comments.

The point is we should be signing players that Man United want to sign and not those that Man United are finished with.

a web site are confidently announcing that a deal has been agreed between us & L'pool that Suarez can join us for 45M providing we progress from the CL qualifiers. I know it's not the most reliable source - but straw clutching has become a new hobby for me. But judging from Rogers' recent posturing this would be a rather humiliating climb-down. All in all this is becoming an excruciating transfer window - hopes raised - hopes dashed. Still the unsettling hints that Cesc is giving 'encouragement' to MU keep flaring up. I worry that there's an air of negativity building up around us, and as has been pointed out before, this can have a corrosive effect on any team.
Edgy times!

Jayjay

Believable40 Unbelievable35

45?! But he's cleary worth 100 mil, like Rodgers said. personaly, I wouldn't get my hopes up. We're getting demba ba.

NE Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't believe this is correct. More likely that if we pay a fee well in excess of £40m, they will allow him to move in time for us to play him in the CL playoff. If, not we will wait until after the playoff matches, to sign him, using the 'release clause, which if read correctly allows him to depart to a CL team for a fee in excess of £40m (hence £40m + £1), when we qualify at the end of September. Rodgers is angry, because we won't increase our bid, knowing we can sign him, if we win the playoff for the £40m + £1 fee and he little time to replace Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Again the clause simply alows suarez to talk to arsenal which is what the 40m plus a quid was about. Arsenal see it as a release clause whereas I said it simply allows him to speak. if suarez wants to take the stance of how arsenal see the clause and push it then i'm guessing it will go to the premier leuage for there position on the clause which will get messy and can't see that being sorted this transfer window IMO. If Arsenal want him now i'm guessing they will have to stump up 50m+++ or whatever BR deems acceptable.

The website your referring to is 'a web site' - hardly the most reliable source.

Agree0 Disagree1

Unbelievable we haven't got players in ready for the season start. Bayern, barca, cit and chelsea have all had there new teams in place for weeks playing together. Wenger must have known his targets last year with backups and no one. Imagine if do get beat in champs playoff and have money to spend we will attract no one. I can honestly see panc buyin in last couple ov days like we did with mertisaker, arteta and santos. 3rd + 4th choice targets
