Arsenal to bid for a centre-back and creative midfielder in January. Below are all realistic targets and ones Wenger has been rumoured to be fond of in the past.

Centre-back options:
*Cahill
*Höwedes
*Samba

Creative midfield options:
*Gourcuff
*Honda
*M.Martin

The best centre-back option by far would be Höwedes. Very underrated player who is consistent, smart, athletic, and confident. Wouldn't cost too much either. However, Cahill and Samba are more likely because Wenger is being pressured to bring in a CB with Premier League experience. Neither player would be too expensive but they are both overrated in my opinion and would by no means be clear favourites to start ahead of Mertesacker/Koscielny.

Gourcuff is the most likely of the midfield options. There are a lot of reports of him becoming disinterested at Lyon and also that he was flattered Wenger bid for him over the summer. Honda and Martin have more ability on the ball but Gourcuff is more suited for Arsenal's style. He is calm on the ball, has good vision, and good passing whereas the others are more direct and more likely to turn over possession (which Ramsey does enough of already). Gourcuff isn't the "next Zidane" like everyone hoped for but he is still a very good and experienced player who would complement Arteta very nicely.

Let's hope for Höwedes and Gourcuff in January.

Are u insane? Gourcuff? Another crock? Hope Wenger is gone by christmas. Enough of this ****

Cahill and Martin for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why cahill and martin, because you are unable to look beyond the names mentioned previously, on this site? Out of all the thousands of professional footballers in the world, 80% of which should be at our disposal, you want gary cahill, and marvin martin. Brilliant. Martin would get physically abused in the premier league, and cahill looks like he is one drunken night away from a lazy eye. Shockers.

I doubt we will get Howedes seeing as he has only just become Shalke Captain. I can't see him walking out a few months after being given that!

Whoever you are - it's a pleasure to hear from another fan who makes good sense.
Cahill/Samba are completely overrated.

Did you see Man City/Chelsea willing to spend 15 mln on these players? No - they are completely over-valued.

Also agree on Ramsey. We lose possession far too much because of him.

For me Gourcuff would be a great addition to the side. This would be a big boost for Chamakh as well (who would help him settle in).

I still believe we may not sign another CB and look at a player like M'Vila

Agree0 Disagree0

What are you on about, boost for chamack? who cares about giving emotional 'boosts' to our average players?? Gourcuff is always injured, why would we want someone who has a high chance of injury?

Fair enough, bringing in 'friends' of players is a nice touch, but why not make it friends at a high level. I.E. van persie plays for holland, so bring in affelay from the dutch national team to support our attack. Sagna at right back (injured) - why not bring in his international right back team m8, so we arent relying on jenkinson to 'come good' 2 years down the line (if ever).

Its very frustrating to be a fan of arsenal, and have other fans willing to settle for much less than they should be.

Our squad is not capable of finishing in the top 4 this season - and this is a very very big deal. Chamack the answer? Gary Cahill? NO.

Lets have a look at our team...

Sczesny, Sagna ( injured ) Mertesacker, Vermalen ( Injured) Gibbs, Koscielny, Miquel, Andre Santos, jenkinson

For me those names have done well, played hard, Im happy with the LB position, CB is all about partnership but the quality is there. RB was never a problem but Jenkinson is giving it his all...he will come good.

Jack Wilshere ( Injured ) Arteta , Ramsey, Frimpong, Coquelin, Song.

For me wilshere is our engine..but being out for 5-6 months we cant count on him this season. Ramsey right now looks like wilshere backup but he is imporving game by game...sloppy at times. Arteta has been consistent not standout, Frimpong is just amazing, song has had days but hes a keeper, Coquelin was amazing for the spurs game and he's a real talent.

Persie, Chamakh, Park , Walcott, AOC, Ryo, Gervinho

For me our front line needs to do more. Walcott needs to be a bit more creative, Gervinho needs to finish better, Persie well just stay fit, AOC and Ryo are our future, Park needs a run in cup games, and chamkah needs this year to prove himself.

Players to go : Almunia, Rosicky, Arshavin, Benayun(dont buy) Diaby ( hes barely denilson forget viera) Denilson ( Sao paolo fans dont want him there and neither do we) bendtner needs to be sold too, Squillachi, and Djourou - 35 million for all these scums

What we need : a backup CB Cahill would be ideal, A holding midfielder like Mvilla but not for an absurd price, we need a winger, Marko marin, Marvin Martin, Goetze, Hazard, For me theo should be the sub along with AOC and what we need upfront is a quality striker, fernando llorente, Roberto Soldado

Soldado

Agree0 Disagree0

If we do fail to finish in the top 4, i expect persie to bail, but if we do buy players he may stay.

Lets say persie goes, i am still confident we can get back into the top 4.

move walcott upfront maybe he can be potent up there.

We have never been about big names so attracting the players we want is not an issue.

Hazard, Gotze, maybe out of our reach but marko marin and marvin martin are options

Agree0 Disagree0

The players we want, and the players we need, are the reason we are struggling at the moment. The players we need, have left us (cesc, clichy, samir) and the players we 'want' are not good enough.

If van persie goes, arsenal have literally no striking force. Seeing as we constantly pass the ball sideways at the moment, who will score for us?

Yeh, put walcott upfront..well..it hasnt happened yet, why does it need to be the last resort ?

Do we need to be in complete disaster mode, to do something ?

clive allen what a plum!

according to keown on talksport there is a history with allen and wenger. allen looks in the pictures that he is getting into wengers face looking for a reaction from wenger who is just trying to walk away. he is goading wenger in front of cameras - if the man hasnt shook your hand walk away and be more of a man and accept it allen you plum!
wenger has just lost a game he is obviously upset - i would be more upset if he was back slapping the enemy and laughing and joking.
but then again its a spuds employee - would nt expect anything less from them - win one game against us and go on like they won a trophy!
