Ok something must be going down and very soon! Heard a rumour of Miquel to Leicester on here a few days ago but it seems to be gaining more legs. There has to be some form of a defender coming in. Even if we made 4 signings would the squad be strong enough to compete for silverware?

Reply to your question-Only if we sign a new manager

{Ed022's Note - You have to ask the question. Would Wenger honestly ship out 20 players (deadwood and youth) and leave us wafer thin? I just cant see it happening. He may as well tie the noose around his neck now if he does...}

Agree0 Disagree0

He could make the noose with that ever present tie he has too, save some money on the rope

I hear Arsenal are planning to sign Ashley Williams from Swansea

Believable47 Unbelievable28

This is getting very worrying - a paper thin squad going in to the new season - is there something that the club are not telling us about finances. Surely, we should be planning better than this?

{Ed022's Note - I understand its frustrating but there is still a long way to go. Champions League draw today will distract everyone from transfers. For 24hrs at least...}

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbh I just can't see us signing anybody. wenger is a joke

So I spoke to this one lad today at the arsenal members day, said he's been working there for 3/4 years and manages 'events' anyway what he informed me was interesting.

He said Suarez is 50/50 as Liverpool are being persons but that the buy is more of a 'please the fans' purchase.

He also told me that there is 'a hell of a lot going on behind the scenes, and the next few years are going to be great for arsenal, but don't be unhappy if its not this one'

What does that even mean?

Believable8 Unbelievable45

It means that Wenger has messed it up again

Agree3 Disagree1

If we try to go into the season with the squad as it is, paper thin, we'd be one single injury from crisis - and the first game we loose would see most of us baying for Wengers head on a spike. Responsability for spending has been publicly laid at this door, as has the fact there is a large reserve of cash available for reinforcing the squad.

Agree1 Disagree0

Who knows what it means. You made it up. You tell us.

Agree1 Disagree0

We could sign saurez we might not. either way transfers will be done which would be good as we are thin of players. I could have told you this you don't need to hear it from someone inside the club

Agree0 Disagree0

Presuming it's true (big presumption) it means no signings till we have a new owner. By which point well be out of champs league and will have to start from scratch and well be stuck as a feeder club.

Agree0 Disagree1

I honestly think anyone who works at Arsenal, right from the board to the grounds staff are all brainwashed by Wenger and his methods.

Walcott came out today and said something along the lines of. whoever the manager brings to the club will always be a top notch player.

We have been hearing for years that. next year, or the year after we will be able to compete with Europes Elite.

We have money to spend, if we can find a player who will add quality to the squad, we will buy.

I would love to, but I don't believe a word of it. Our squad has been full of mediocre players over the best part of ten years.

We should have been able to go pound for pound with Europes Elite the past 2 or 3 years at least (giving a bit of time to cope with the stadium move).

We are now supposedly armed with a vast amount of cash to buy big, yet again Wenger has stalled. It is coming to the start of the season and we haven't got a player of note in to get to know the squad, training sessions, or tactics.

There have been a lot of very good players we have missed out on the past year who would have definitely added quality to our squad, and within our wage and transfer budget

Agree1 Disagree1

I agree with your mate, Liverpool are playing stubborn and wenger just wants that bit of class the fans are begging for, to shut them up and it means now arsenal are in the green and making a good bit of money each year, stadiums all paid off ect: that for the next few years we now are going to start building a team to challenge for everything, we have wenger tied to a new deal, all the british core tied down and if you have noticed we have offloaded about 20 deadwood players to start are rebuild but it ain't guna happen over 1 season, people need to remeber that, will we buy this year IMO yes for sure we have to but we ain't guna replace everyone this year it takes time, now we will take are time to scout young talent that defo will be good no more bentner, park ect: we have money to buy top talent now young or already established, hope that helps

Agree1 Disagree0

Stick carrot repeat

Agree1 Disagree0

Tooley- very odd response! I can categorically say I am not ITK or anything. Just heard something and thought I would share it also. Could be BS, but also seems just like a fan talking to a fan having an opinion?

Here's one and its a true story - the security guard working at the arsenal shop today is a Tottenham fan.

And the tall thespian worker at the 'kick the ball through the hole' blow upside a wolves fan.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think it means nothing mate till we see something in real, more years of empty dreams that's what it means

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with RED99. It will only take one defeat and the fans will be turning on Wenger. There can be no excuse for not reinforcing this summer beacuse we simply can not compete with our current squad, either in numbers or talent. As it stands any injury to either Chesney of one of the centre backs leaves us in a real mess. Why oh why do we always leave it so late to buy. The comments made by Gazidis about the summer spending were all "empty promises". If we want top players, pay the asking price and be done with it.

Multiple sources saying Arsenal readying 51M bid for Suarez. Any truth Ed? {Ed027's Note - I haven't hear anything

Flamini to re-sign for Arsenal on a free transfer as a DM cover for diaby. He is currently training with the squad.

Believable35 Unbelievable60

Bin bag hunting again.

Agree2 Disagree1

What is your source? It's a great rumour but I'm not entirely sure it's got wheels considering the way he departed, the same berk that let him go through his refusal to negotiate a new contract is the same berk not making the signings today.
Arsenal could have dominated the EPL if The Invincibles had been handled better. But hey-ho, AFC finances are sound and the 'Old School-Boys' mob are still raking it in.
£7. 5M p/a, with nothing to show for it, if that were you or me or any 'normal' business, our ass is toast.

Agree0 Disagree1

So a out of contract DM a out of contract ST. an I can prob put money on us losing out on these deals as wenger will stall or not pay wages. only new signing at arsenal will be the new tea lady in the cafe

Agree0 Disagree0

If he can keep his injuries at bay I wouldn't be against us bringing him in, especially on a free. He knows the playing style and philosophy of the club.

At 29 he's no spring chicken but he'd provide good rotation with Arteta and Milan were willing to offer him a new contract.

Feels a bit of a cop out though and I'd still prefer to see someone like Lars Bender brought in for the long term.

lol! I posted bout this earlier but it's was on twitter, saying asked to train for fitness whilst looking for an england club, also he'd be a free transfer. my thoughts is if we are desperate enough then he'd be a quick but before the window shuts

Has Suarez's position become untenable at Liverpool if Arsenal don't get him and Real don't come in for him will he play again for Liverpool. Will their fans take him back or will he just rot training with the youths until January where there would be a few million knocked off his price {Ed029's Note - Suarez will be sold this summer. Another Ed has explained that there will likely be interest from other clubs as well.}

Believable17 Unbelievable9

I just don't get why we have left it so late again to strengthen the squad. It is great that we have shed a load of players, but we are woefuuly short of numbers, especially given the international games that need to be played during the season. As it stands we have no real quality back-up striker, centre half or goalkeeper and we are only too aware that our injury record is not great. I am sure that Wenger knows what he is doing but dithering could cost us dearly!

Agree3 Disagree1

He will be sold but no other suitors and this is a fact, no RM, its not going to happen. Its arsenal or bust

Agree1 Disagree1

I think it would be busy LFC will leave him in reverses to rot until nxt window either that or hoping to have him change his mind. I'm clutching at straws with this post.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mark my words we will miss out on Suarez and he will go to Madrid, Madrid realise they cannot get Bale and will end up with Suarez, Wenger will not pay the amounts Liverpool are asking, trust me.

Agree1 Disagree1

Lets be honest do any of us really expect this to happen, going on previous years it'll be a case of we tried but blah blah excuse blah blah

Not sure how accurate football-espana website is, but here goes

Arsenal are lining up a €45m bid for benzema if suarez to arsenal doesn't happen. Personally, I call bs on it, but a rumour nontheless

Believable17 Unbelievable47

Well. It would make sense if RM sold to Arsenal knowing they get Suarez. But I highly doubt RM would let the depth drop below 2 starter type strikers.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've also seen this on various web sites personally I don't believe it BS

A friend of mine very close to Sturridge said Sturridge told him liverpool will only sell suarez for 50 million and above and Arsenal are willing to pay.

Believable24 Unbelievable32

The players are very rearly informed about transfers, especialy the economic factors. so highly doubt it.

Agree1 Disagree0

How does Sturridge know? Players find out about transfers about the same time fans do.

Benzema is on the short list apparently, with a £39m bid to be lodged if Suarez goes tits up. Think about it, it does kind of make sense; Suarez goes to Madrid and replaces Higuain, Benzema comes to us and Bale replaces him. Thoughts people?

Believable32 Unbelievable29

Just paper talk me thinks think it suarez or bust on the striker front would love gustavo here would fit in perfect

Agree0 Disagree1

Still prefer suarez but benzema is top dollar. if arsene can add fellaini and ashley williams to the mix I would be very happy.

Agree3 Disagree0

Would be a bad day. He is worse than Higuain and Suarez so I can't see it happening, then again, he is French

Agree1 Disagree0

First of all I don't see how Bale would replace Benzema, secondly - though I rate Benzema very high - he isn't the guy we need along Giroud. Him and Suarez are very different types - we need the Suarez-type IMO.
Anyways, we're talking alternatives. Benzema wouldn't be the worst of such.

To address the query of "how Bale would replace Benzema" - I understand why you'd question it but it makes sense: Bale would play on the left for Madrid, Ronaldo moves up front, Benzema is sold/benched, therefore Bale replaces Benzema.

Don't think RM will sell Benzema though, he'll play up top if they don't get Bale or be benched to accommodate Ronaldo if they do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Phil17 - I agree on the paper talk front, I can't see it happening, and I think Gustavo would fit in nicely, he played well at the confederations cup in my opinion.

chas - I think either Suarez or Benzema would drastically improve our striking force.

Chess - That's what makes it logical, the fact he's French :P

50N_0F_4_G00N3R - I think he'd fit perfectly with Giroud to be honest, but I do agree we need Suarez's creativity

Agree0 Disagree0

Ar97 gunner. I totally agree. slight preference for suarez but I just can't see it happening. benzema is a top boy and would be happy if he was at the emirates.
just wish we would invite a few more people to the party, ie fellaini and ashley williams.

Agree1 Disagree0

Chas - I agree with the fact we need to widen our sights on transfer targets in terms of positions, as although a striker is important, we do lack a solid CDM and back up CB. I'd go Lars Bender and Williams

Agree0 Disagree0

Ar97 gunner. yes I totally agree but the only problem is we have a manager who doesn't want to spend.
