Just wondering now with the window closing what the people think about it closing on an earlier day. I personally like the idea but would've been better if all of Europe did the same day. Wasn't it to stop English clubs unsettling English club players if so maybe they should've stopped today but allowed purchasing from foreign clubs until the 31st. Just an idea really lol.

yeah there needs to be a universal football window accross all leagues to make it fair I Guess that would mean them all starting their leagues at the same times approx. which could prove tricky to implement. It is good in a way that it is before the start of season as more business is done earlier which is good for pre season prep but now European clubs have the advantage and can still unsettle the english club players for another couple of weeks.

Im not sure we will have too many foreign clubs sniffing round our top players, unsettling them in the next two weeks. Not sure that applies to utd, chelski, liverpool and spuds.

Obviously colder countries have seasons that run from spring to October so it's pretty impossible to sinc all leagues and windows.
English clubs don't have to sell to other countries just because their window is still open.

Presumably the FA is leading by example by instituting this now. I like the change, it forces clubs to be decisive and will hopefully reduce inflated panic buys. If it works well perhaps we'll see other countries' FAs follow suit, or even a UEFA-wide move.

{Ed002's Note - It is nothing to do with the FA.}

It makes complete sense to close the window before the season starts, but this should have been done in unison, as far as possible, with the other leagues abroad. Now clubs have to withstand the possibility of players being unsettled and possibly moving until the windows abroad close. The overseas clubs abroad are in a stronger position to force through lower priced purchases from the PL. For instance, clubs know that we want tio sell Ospina or face the prospect of having to pay his wages for the remainder of his contract, whilst he has littel chance of playing and hence he has little or no value. The same goes for Ramsey and Welbeck who have entered the final year of their deals and their value will have plummeted. I was extremely surprised that nobody came in for Welbeck, although wages may be a stumbling block.

{Ed001's Note - it only makes sense for big clubs. For little clubs they now have to run with an even bigger squad than ever, costing more money than they can afford, as they can't bring any players in to cover injuries later. It also makes sense for agents, as a shorter transfer period increases prices. It certainly makes no sense for anyone in youth football as youngsters have even less chance of breaking through. Every team has to buy a complete squad, rather than just having a team and giving a youngster a chance when there is an injury and only buying if you need to. Teams used to run with much smaller squads because they were able to buy up until March, so you could cover injuries with kids, if they didn't work out you then went and bought. Now teams have the full 25 in their squad, lessening the gaps available for youth players to get their chance. Nothing about a shorter window makes sense at all to anyone apart from people who stand to make money from it. It is to the detriment of the game as a whole.}

I saw an interview with an agent who said that the all windows will be in line next season, but for some reason we opted to start this season?

Hi Ed, I made a comment which you have kindly posted on the banter section. This was a suggestion that the window is open far longer, say from the end of the season until 31st December, allowing far more flexibility for clubs to change their squads, as you stated, try youngsters first and possibly buy if that doesn't work out. This would limit the last minute inflated prices syndrome and negate the problem of coping with players on short contracts, leaving more time to sort out the negotiations.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think it worked better when it was open until March. There were no issues until the window system came in, yet the clubs keep trying to make the window shorter to fix problems that they created by putting the window in place! Madness.}

True Ed, it is interesting that club's thought the entire year can change ownership, manager, coaches, contracts etc. Yet for some unknown reason decide that we need two relatively small windows in order to sign players.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it makes no sense. Clubs that used to rely on academies, such as Crewe, have slid down the leagues since it came in precisely because they can no longer afford to hang onto the kids until towards the end of the season. So the big clubs benefit, as they can just stockpile good players, while small clubs suffer as they are left with the dregs to pick over.}

wasn't it voted on by the english clubs? get the business done quick, pretty simple. but then you lose all the magic of Jim "deadline day" whatever his name is, and who could forget the pink dildo.

Never thought of that Ed001, interesting perspective. Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Just to explain that the vote by the Premier League sides resulted in a 15-5 split giving more than the 70% (14) required to pass the motion - I would think if you did it again today you would not get the 14 votes required.}

Sorry ed, I'm only asking because tethered been an outbreak of reports right now, and hopefully is the last time I ask this, but has arsenal put in a bid for Dembele? It's all over the news that's why mate.

{Ed002's Note - See previous answers - search for what I last said about Dembele and it will all be clear.}

Are we honestly entering the season with these centre backs? The lad Soyuncu is going to Leicester for £20m. Our 3 available centre halves haven’t got a turn of pace between them we’ve got zero chance of top 4 with this defence.

I'm really suprised we've not. Signed a young cb diallo, issa Diop, soyuncu, were all available and are good promising players even a move for Pavard or monolas would. Of. Been ideal. This. Is probably koscielny last season along with Monreal both getting on a bit and should. Of. Been replaced. This season even mustafi is. Hot. And cold and. Could. Of. Done with replacing let's see what happens.

Ed, any chance of a quick run down of likely ins / outs at Arsenal tomorrow?
Really hoping for a few signings.

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - The list remains the same aside from those previously left: Ospina, Elneny, Welbeck and Jenkinson seem the most likely. Vida might be an option as Besiktas want the money and they would like Ospina as has been explained.}

What about off loading Ramsey?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If you want, but I would not expect it.}

09 Aug 2018 09:24:10
Vida might b an option how can we enter the season so light weight at the back it’s been our weakest area for years, the attack looks as good as it’s been for years. Mina going Everton Soyuncu Leicester how can’t we match there offer? Am I the only one who thinks this?

I haven't heard of interest in Elneny Ed's. Where might he go?

{Ed002's Note - OPtions will be looked at over the coming weeks.}
