Jan vertonghen-SPURS atm but was arsenal a month ago. Seems to be flirting but apparently spurs have got him already. Shame cos he is a quality player. Leadership and versatility a couple of many skills he has. But you never know. His agent plays his hand close to his chest and I can't understand the player himself on twitter. SSN have published an 'interview' with him, but half of it was fake. I managed to contact them but they were adamant this is what he had told them. Vertonghen later admitted on dutch radio that the interview never took place. My uncle lives in amsterdam, also a gooner rang me up as soon as he heard this. It is a tough one for me to call hate to say it but probably a future spud.
Chance of joining= 40%

Clint dempsey- I like him as a player, versatile, skilful, got a sweet shot, great free kicks, left foot almost as good as his right. He has many attributes which suggest wenger should fork out £10m on him. However imo there are almost as many if not more, suggesting he shouldn't. At 29 he is not young. He is also not as clinical as thought. He has scored 17 goals this season. Not bad. He has also played 55 games this season and has a goals to game ratio of 0.29 not as good as it seems. He enjoys life at fulham, with him, his wife and his two children settled well over the long period he has been here.don't expect him in an arsenal shirt next season.
Chance of joining=25%

Yann m'vila- probably the one most of you care about the most. I'm not going to tell you how good he is(believe me he is gonna be VERY big soon), but what the latest transfer developements are. On monday, a certain julien laurens revealed that m'vila was close to completing a deal with the gunners. Exact quote: 'Very busy yesterday working on M'vila story. Deal 99% done. 22 million euros, 4 years. Great signing for Arsenal and player is delighted'

He later said: 'A the moment deal is done with Arsenal finishing 3rd, could slightly change if not but he will still sign. He chose Arsenal over Inter Milan'

He himself is a french journalist, working for le parisien, in london. I can confirm now that he DOES have direct contact with the AGENT(v.important).

Many of the most popular newspapers exploited lauren's tweet claiming an agreement had been reached. We all rejoiced. However earlier today, the evening standard published an article claiming that arsenal were not interested in the player, his agent had just fed false info to the news to get inter to bid. This makes sense as it was the AGENT, not player who lauren had direct contact with, so they could have insiders who read through the agents disguised leak. OR they could be hedging their bets, stirring further rumours. There is another thing that I noticed. In standard sports article claiming arsenal had said they were not interested, there were no solid quotes it just said 'standard sport understands'. Either they have inside knowledge or they are making it up. I severely hope its not the latter.
Chance of joining=depends on the standards source(0% if they have inside knowledge 99% if they are making it up)

On a brighter note, my journalist friend Roberto from brazil, has told me that arsenal have completed a deal with fluminese for wellington nem. Apparently the next big thing in brazil. This is the same guy who told me about denilsons move to us 5 months before it was confirmed.

Hoped you enjoyed this, recently I have been making a LOT of phone calls and emails trying to get more info on these, and the point of this was just to clear up some issues regarding transfers. Hope it helped.

Wait so Dempsey's family is so settled they wouldn't move from London to.....oh wait, London. He wouldn't even need to move house.

Also interesting you say about this Wellingtom Nem player just after Ed002 says it....

Another target we have wanted is Vertonghen. Lots of rumours now that he will go to Tottenham. Hopefully he doesn't but I dread he might! I understand he is a talented player but do we really need him? I understand he is a great talent but has anyone been watching our two Centre Backs this year. For me they have been decent this year. So I can only seeing him going in as cover for Koscielny and Vermaelen but has everyone forgotten about the experienced German we bought last season? What has he done wrong this year? He made a mistake against Norwich but apart from that I can't think of any other horrendous mistakes. People say that he is slow but he hasn't been caught out constantly for his lack of pace and whoever is beside him can make up for any lack of pace.
I like Vertonghen but can anyone tell me why he is so popular?

Newspapers

BFG is a much better CB and in him, Kos and TV5 we are solid

And...Miquel will be top top top

we are in good hands at the back, leave them be, let them grow together

we dont need that rotten spud Vertongen

Agree0 Disagree0

The big tall german we signed is not cut out for the premier league.. too many quick players in the league now and in the modern game and big money signings i expect the other teams to make we need two reliable centre halfs and not someone who will get caught out..

Agree0 Disagree0

Many people (ajax fans) rate vertonghen as a better player than vermaelen, think thats enough evidence to prove he must be something special ;)

After being told by BognorGooner to not put "follow me on Twitter" at the end of my posts I will stop doing it now but you all know where to find me.
Now, onto my post!
As I have already stated I think that Yann M'villa will become an Arsenal player during this Summer. I do believe that at this current time both clubs are working on a deal and that it is in advanced stages. How do I know this? Well, simply just by reading different sources and coming to the overall conclusion that a deal is not yet completed but is in advanced stages. When it will be announced? My guess is somewhere sandwiched between the end of the season and the beginning of Euro 2012. Like the Podolski deal, everyone will be expecting it to be announced straight away. The likliehood is that it won't. Don't worry if it takes a while till being announced. The longer it takes the more stupid rumours will come about, similar to those with the Podolski deal. As everyone begins to panic about a delay in the deal people begin to fear the worse so stupid rumours such as the Podolski to Lazio ones seem more believable. Don't worry! Everybody just stay calm I am confident that a deal will be done. If a deal is not done then you can all take it out on me!

From a reliable source:
Ramsey on loan to QPR next season to get some influence from Barton as Wenger feels he was too hesitant this season.

Rather just sell him.
Poor player.

Ramsey never was good enough, i kept wondering why the manager had so much faith in him. Perhaps because we have no options but go with what we have. Better off sold.

Just to be clear with arsenals financial spending. We don't just go for cheap players. We did make a £20 million bid for reins and last season an £18 million bid for downing (sky sources). however, it does annoy me about our spending. The most infuriating being the juan mata scandal and we all know what happened.

I am very worried about Sunday, I think it wil be an extremely difficult hard and tight game, but please arsenal prove me wrong. This will be Woy's last game, WBA will be determined and ready for the game. They have beaten Chelsea at home and almost and should have beaten Manchester united at home and drew with city at home. I don't like the fact everyone assumes its an easy win as it won't be (hopefully it will). We scraped and was lucky to get a 2-2 draw last season from coming 2-0 down.

If we finish 3rd I think it will a great and rewarding achievement. I don't like settling for a non-title challenging team with winning no trophies, but from our situation we was in lying in 17th (even though everyone knew we wouldn't finish there), 3rd would be brilliant. Bearing in mind most pundits wrote arsenal off finishing top 6 and claimed a top 4 finish would be one of the highlights of wengers career.

If we do finish fourth then I would be devastated as we wold have thrown it away. If we do, we have to give credit to tottenham, haven't spent much but bought in good players. If Chelsea win the champions league then I will be gutted, but I feel they deserve to win and have a sneaky suspicion that they will. If we do finish 3rd and the toon army finish 4th and Chelsea win the champions league, I know it would be harsh on the Geordies but I would crack up!

I am feeling very excited about this summer, as I was last year, buti feel we will bring in top quality players...hopefully anyway.

Sorry for the long post,

Clock end gooner

Believable14 Unbelievable4

Theres no way we big 18 million for downing. sky sources means f*** all these days. they also said we were in talks with scot dann.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah surprisingly sky sports is actually the last place I would go to for offers made and transfer spec. They get their info from talksport and bbc who both get their info from each other and make it up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Juan Mata said himself that both Arsenal and Chelsea had bids accepted by Valencia and there was no difference in the contract offers from both clubs. He choose Chelsea because he believed he could win more trophies there. Not because we wouldnt pay!

{Ed002's Note - Regarding the Brazilian:

I have had a response Steve and he very much doubts that there is any interest in Ganso from Arsenal. However, he says that Arsenal are keen on Fluminense's Wellington Nem and in other Arsenal related news from him, apparently the club have enquired after PSVs Jetro Willems as well.}

Believable5 Unbelievable3

I've never heard of either of them are they any good?

Gavsta {Ed002's Note - I don't want to give subjective opinions on how good they are but there are contradicting reports about teh interest in Wellington Nem - but agreement that Arsenal are interested in someone at Fluminense (who Chelsea have strong links with). Given who provided this information to me, I would suspect that there is interest in him. The only other information that I have on Willems is confirmed interest from Manchester United also.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks Ed002 i dont spose you have any other info on them do you like positions ages or stats or anything do you or if anyone else knows about them

Gavsta {Ed002's Note - I would guess you could easily find the details you need via their club web sites.}

Brilliant news guys.

French newspaper Mercato365 are reporting Yann M'vila should still be joining us this summer, and has also said we're after Remy, Giroud and Belhanda. Although I think Giroud will end up playing 2nd striker to Gomez at Bayern after Ollic's departure.

Ben X.

Believable18 Unbelievable2

I think belhanda cud be a proper signing for us..he looks the real deal
big dickey

Agree0 Disagree0

Big Dickey.

I think if we could snap him up this season, he could progress the same way Hazard has this [season].

The only problem is his attitude, but, if Wenger can work on him with that and tell him what he can do if he drops it he could be amazing.

Although I am slightly turned off morroccans from Ligue 1, though I can't for the life of me figure out why.

Ben X.

Everyone has already heard that m'vila is likely to join us

Does anyone here truly believe that if RVP was offered attractive terms etc that he would leave us for another premiership club? I absolutely do not believe he would. I cannot see it at all. I see rumours that Man U are now considering a move - I find this incredibly arrogant of them and in all honesty I kind of see it as a total lack of any kind of respect between SAF and Arsenal. If you respect your biggest challengers of the club's history, you don't assume you can just make an offer for their captain! I also find it laughable that Man U are that arrogant to think we'd even consider selling our captain to them. I mean if that isn't the football equivalent of rolling over and admitting subservience then what is? I think if we sold RVP to any prem club then I fail to see how any Arsenal fan would ever respect the club afterwards. I would have no respect for Arsene or anything he's done if he sold RVP to a prem club. Abroad, I could live with.

GMF have just released their top 5 transfer targets of the summer. All five have been serious targets of ours throughout the last year at some point, but mostly right now. They are: M'Vila, Giroud, Dempsey, Hazard, and Jan Vertonghen. Of the players who aren't crazily-priced (bar maybe Hazard although I think 25m could do it if he likes the terms) we are seriously considering moves for all these players. How refreshing is that? I know we see the 'same' thing every year but we were in for some big players we never got last year, we needed to add to last year and instead we sold players and never replaced them. Arsene asked Grimandi for a 10-week dossier on Giroud. I think this summer will be full of surprises and I can picture at least 2 of those players of not 3 coming to us.

Raz

Believable15 Unbelievable0

As soon as the season ends, i wont be on here for 5 weeks or so. Last summer on this forum was an absolute joke, with people such as yourself (Raz) posting every day about cahill and samba and hazard and cesc staying, nasri staying..nobody knows anything, all you do is HOPE what happens.

Do yourself a favour. {Ed025's Note - well, thats mister anonymous out!

Agree0 Disagree0

Gavsta, I respect your take, but to me, it's just arrogant nonsense. Would Man U ever sell us Rio? Or Rooney? No way in hell.

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO money does not interest rvp. but his at a stage in his career where its make or break in regards to winning trophies...

if the club can get some big names in it may convince him to sign.... who knows

Agree0 Disagree0

Your right they would'nt sell us rooney (they may do Rio as hes ageing) and trust me thats a good thing i wouldnt want either anyway. I think the point I'm trying to make is we are a selling club, we sold TH at 29 also and i think we will keep RVP but I cant say that i would blame SAF for testing the waters. I believe that is all it is tho testing the water, (if its not just paparazi BS) because if we were going to sell him off as we do most players SAF would'nt want to miss out. But thats just my opinion.

Gavsta

Agree0 Disagree0

I fear that RVP will go.
Its always horrible seeing them in the new kit before he signed a deal. The way RVP has been talking in interviews has been suspect "I will always be a gunner" and if you look at the interview regarding Podolski, he dodged the question about playing along side him and just said he is a good player and will do well at Arsenal. I hope he will stay but I dont think he will unless we get 3rd. I dont think we will beat West Brom especially as we are without Arteta and Theo and we have been shocking recently. Who will stay/go and come in will depend on what happens against this weekend.
Come on Arsenal!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Raz, I think that is only rubbish rumour. SAF is arrogant, but he is not stupid... Just the newspapers need stories to fill their pages.

BGGOONER

Agree0 Disagree0

In truth if RVP will not sign a contract extension then you cannot blame the board for selling him surely? Much as it would be a kick in the teeth for the team the club simply couldnt afford to turn down a huge transfer fee as he will have to be replaced in a years time and we would have to find the money to do it ourselves then.
My heart tells me we finish third and he stays but my brain tells me we finish fourth and he will leave!
Either way the club goes on.

Keep the faith!

Ed I never bother you but here's my first attempt. Is there any real truth in the on-going links with Hoilett and Sessagnon? The links just don't seem concrete enough from what I have seen. Also, whats all this talk about some Brazilian arriving at the Emirates? Sorry I think I have missed something on that front.

Cheers

Wozza {Ed002's Note - There is confirmed interest in Hoilett but I suspect that the Sessegnon is perhaps an old story being recycled from his days at Paris Saint-Germain. As for the Brazilian, there was apparently something on Twitter taht said some talks were taking place with a Brazilian player. There was then some discussion about who it may be - see 08 May 2012 16:11:01.}

Whats the deal with M'vila?
Yesterday he was all but signed, now it looks like we are not even interested in him and the source of the rumours were his agent in an attempt to get Inter to make a bid?

What you guys think? Is he signing?

D-Dot

Believable9 Unbelievable4

Why would he go to Inter? They're like the Italian Liverpool, living off passed achievements. Look at Forlan, had an astounding world cup, Moved to Inter and I don't think he's reached double figures yet. They have a few of there first team in on loan and look like they're going nowhere. You'd have to be seriously stupid to move there. Somehow though, I have an inkling that if it hasn't improved by the end of next season, Mr Mourinho might be house hunting in northern Italy.

Hi guys, just want your thoughts on this...

I posted a link to a blog I read about M'Vila yesterday, was an interesting piece and for me it was good to read a bit about his career and the reasons why every club in europe likes him.

However, one thing could not be ignored. The article said he's played the last 3 seasons without a break, and without an injury. This season his form has dipped. This summer he's playing in the Euros as France are building their team around him, such are his talents. Some people will no doubt have a say at the simple fact I'm even thinking this but isn't the poor guy going to be absolutely f***ed by the time he gets to us? With our injury records and what I believe to be absolutely abysmal medical team this does worry me, I won't pretend otherwise.

I can just picture it now: "Arsenal midfielder M'Vila out for 6 months with some random inexplicable injury that nobody saw coming and nobody knows how to cure" with Wenger commenting "perhaps he was more in the red than we thought" haha. I hope if we do sign him, he gets a damn good break over the summer at some point!

M'Vila has been signed.

How do I know?

Because I am affiliated to another club in England who found out that Diaby has been put up for loan/ sale due to the arrival of another player of similarity.

Read into this what you want.

merely a suggestion but with no one really knowing whats going on in wengers head regarding transfers, and his love of french/french based players:

Sakho ( 5-10m ) ? cb/lb
Gourcuff sp ( 10-15m ) acm
Mvilla (17-20m ) cdm
Remy (15-20m ) st

not saying these will happen just a thought, been linked numerous times with most of these players and barring mvilla recently everythings gone quiet. I know Sakho has suffered a dip in form but im sure wengers a keen admirer of him, anyways just a thought

N. Wales Gunner

Believable8 Unbelievable8

Remy we could get for around 12m I think, Marsielle are 10th ATM.

Sadly Sakho would cost a lot more than 5m, I think it would be closer to the 15m mark.

Gourcuff We could get for less than 10m I think. Pires told Wenger he thought he shoul buy him back in January I think. Would be brill if we got him I think with us he could be huge.

Ben X.

Agree0 Disagree0

Go for sakho if we will more than likely lose the race for jan vertonghen to spuds

Agree0 Disagree0

Sakho has fallen out of favour at PSG, he is currently third choice and was recently booed by his own fans for giving away a penalty i think it was. I just think his confidence is low, which with wengers magic touch i think he could prove a real asset at around the 5-10mill mark

Lots of previous talk about Vertonghen to us, now it looks like spuds have the lead from the quotes going around.

I think he will go to spuds if they get CL football unfortunately as he has a greater chance of starting 11 football there but nothing will be confirmed until after Sunday either way.

Ed - Do you think we have a chance, or is he spuds bound?

We know if he has not signed for either so there is still a chance, but what is your personal opinion? {Ed002's Note - Until the past few days I would have said that I very much expected Vertonghen would move to Arsenal in the summer. Now I am not so sure but it would be no more than a guess to say.}

Believable5 Unbelievable1

His decision will depend on who's playing champions league next season. Arsenal, Spuds and Newcastle are interested. Problem between Ajax and Spuds now, is that there is a gap of a few millions in the bid... so nothing is sure, but still hoping he's not chosing for Spuds!

Agree0 Disagree0

I still can't understand why he'd leave to go to Spuds, regardless of champs league footy. They were not only abysmal in the champs league, they were abysmal in the europa league too. Leaving Ajax for Spuds is kind of like leaving Man U so you can 'win things' at Shaktar or somewhere. Doesn't make sense. If all he wants is to play every week then why doesn't he stay at Ajax? If he wants to shine on the biggest stage then why doesn't he want to join a club who 1) are always on the biggest stage and 2) always do well on the biggest stage. That's us, Man U, Chelsea, Barca, Real, Juve, Milan....etc etc etc etc etc...i.e NOT spurs.

The kids just don't know!

Agree0 Disagree0

All this talk of him wanting a Spuds move etc, was bull$h1t as I've said numerous times... ONE Paper "Telegraaf" reporting he'd said this. The very same paper that JV had discredited back last yr about another quote they attributed to him.

Spuds may be interested. But considering the only people saying they've even bid are JV's Agent and the media [who got it from JV's Agent] I call BS.

I think if Van doesn't want to sign a new contract, then sell him this summer to a foreign club, use the money to get Dzeko and a true midfield play maker. Need someone who can link up the passes. Cause right now we don't have one.

Morning Guys & Girls
slow morning at work so just been reading the arsenal news shame if it is true about Jan Ventoghen (spelling) but s**t happens
great news again if true about M'Vila I think we have been crying out for a proper DM
so as fellow arsenal fans would you be happy with
Podolski (Done)£11 Mil
M'Vila £17.7 Mil
Dempsey £10 Mil
Jnr Holliett Free Transfer
I would still believe we would need a AM I would opt for belhanda purely on the basis that we could attract him and would be in our price range and wage range and another experienced defender happy to wait for there chance when we get the injuries we always do
free transfers
Carvalho
Samuel
Chivu
wages could be the issue though.
Goalkeeper as we seem to be losing most of them not that I'm to bothered by that another free transfer
Craig Gordon

so that's potentially 7 signings with the outlay of around £38.7 Million in transfer fees not signing on fees, agents etc ....and then if we where lucky enough whatever Belhanda would cost £10-£15 Million maybe

not going to mention all the deadwood we want rid off

I would be more then happy with that cant really see Arsene bringing in seven new faces but this is a banter page so any thoughts

I don't understand why people think Wenger won't bring in at least 7 new faces last season I think it was 10 or 11

Doubt carvalho and samuel will happen. could see why we would go for dhivu.

"Something about the M'Vila signing ” if it does actually happen, that is ” still seems odd to me, though. Unless we plan on moving out one of our current central midfielders, either on loan or permanently"

Frimmers is going back on loan and AW is looking to loan out Rambo as well. Bolton/Wet Spam I'd guess are his likely destinations... Nothing knowledgeable on this.

=M.A.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

For our midfield next year I'd have,

M'Vila, Arteta, Wilshere, Song, Rosicky, Ramsey, Coquelin.

Then sell: Diaby, Denilson and loan out Frimpong.

G95

Agree0 Disagree0

I would be surprised to see Ramsey go on Loan. Especially for the first half of the season when we will have carling cup and FA cup matches.

Depending on Wilshire's fitness (I doubt he will play more that 25-30 games next season), it may make sense to loan him in Jan.

As for Diaby, I doubt any team would want to take the gamble given his high wages.

My hope is that we still beat out Liverpool for Belhanda (If we can clear out the following):
Bendtner
Chamakh
Park
Arshavin
Squillaci
Denilson

Several journo's at once coming out now and claiming that Arsenal are saying we're no longer interest in M'Vila after his camp claim deal is all but completed with fee agreed etc. - One of these journo's even posted an article yesterday 'confirming' deal was done.

It's funny how these journo's literally start discussing this at the exact same time. Some kind of publicity spin I'd assume. Personally I've heard nothing whatsoever about our interest waning.

So, now the rumour mill is saying the M'Vila deal is off. The player's camp are saying a deal has been concluded whereas Arsenal delegates are saying we're no longer interested.
I appreciate Arsenal like to do their business privately but it does annoy me that they get all shirty when details are leaked. We saw the same thing last with the Cahill negotiations. Because the Bolton chairman leaked details to the press, Arsenal threw a hissy fit and broke off negotiations. I just hope they don't let a potential gem slip through their hands because of petulance.

Slick Mick

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Why would Arsenal's delegates call it off when it has been accepted, Have we had a bigger better deal for another player accepted.

Agree0 Disagree0

Petulance is not really the word here...Arsenal have always done their busines in private and I believe one of the main reasons behind this is not to inflate or skew the prices astronomically...I dont see anything wrong with that approach...Bolton Chairman was not honorable in his dealings (we understand his motives - get other clubs interested and inflate prices) and I fully understand why Arsenal FC should be incensed by that...Transfer negotiations are tricky affairs these with plenty of variables that could go wrong...so trying to maintain/define the boundaries of your dealings in private is not something that should be sneered at or seen as petulant
ES

Agree0 Disagree0

And for your info, bolton chairman misguided the terms offered by arsenal for cahill... That was not the actual proposal

Idiotic ITK

Agree0 Disagree0

In response, I'm not sneering at wanting negotiations to be private but the club shouldn't take this to the extreme of letting a good player go unsigned because of agents leaking details. Also, I don't like breaking out the dictionary but you've forced my hand.
Petulant: Moved to, or showing sudden impatient irritation, especially over some trifling annoyance.

Hi Eds/everyone,

Just wanted to ask, which clubs have shown an interest in RVP and have any offers been made? Some joker posted yesterday £34m move to Inter done deal which is obviously bull. Today I'm reading Juve are keen, what I would like to know is which clubs have come in/are planning on coming in for which of our players this summer if any? I'm bored with reading that hazard's coming, now he's not, Vertonghen's coming, now he's not, we're in for Belahnda, but now we're not, would rather find out who's planning on raiding us this year like every summer. Also apart from the shyte, does the club need to sell any players from a financial perspective?

Thanks,

Raz {Ed002's Note - I don't know of interest but both Juventus and PSG are looking to experienced high-end strikers and both are in good shape financially.}

Is there any truth that Kagawa is now staying put at Dortmund.
(Think he would have daft to leave there, they are a club on the up and up)

Also heard that AC milan is mostly likely destination for Erikson
(AC Milan a club on the down and down) {Ed002's Note - Liverpool, Manchester United, Udinese, Spurs, Villarreal and Valencia, who have shown an interest in Kagawa this past few months. Kagawa says that a move to Manchester United would be impossible to turn down. Reinhard Rauball has made it clear that there still hasn't been contact with Dortmund from another club. I would not be surprised to see him stay at Dortmund. Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and AC Milan have shown an interest in Eriksen. He has already rejected both Manchester City and Chelsea but AC Milan remain the most interested club. The Milan Press Office are convinced of interest from Manchester United and they have let it be known that they expect a bid to be made by for Eriksen who remains adament that he will stay in Amsterdam for two more years before moving to Spain. Expect AC Milan and Roma to press if a bid is made by Manchester United.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanx for detailed reply

Hi Ed
I like Erikson for turning down City and Chelsea but the fact his turned down the biggest payers tells me he won't becoming to the prem {Ed002's Note - I don't know the reasons behind turning down City but Chelsea were turned down as they had twice rejected him when he had been on trial.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Eriksen will stay put for another year - unless a fantastic international outing leads to massive bids (30+).

Otherwise, I suspect that Kagawa will go to man utd. Good signing for them. Dortmund will regret letting him go - he has been the driving force behind their title this year.

Yann M™Vila transfer to Arsenal ˜agreed™
Arsenal have agreed a fee for Rennes star Yann M™Vila, with a deal set to be concluded at the end of the season, according to reports in France.

As Metro revealed last month, the Gunners have made signing a natural defensive midfielder a key priority for the summer, despite Alex Song™s excellent form.

And it seems after scouring the market, manager Arsene Wenger has settled on securing long-term favourite M™Vila.

The 21-year-old, who also has strong interest from Inter Milan, told Rennes of his desire to quit the club earlier this season, and according to reports in France, Arsenal have agreed terms on a £17 million transfer, with the details set to be concluded in the summer.

SOURCE: Metro

! Matt the sheppey gunner !

Believable10 Unbelievable0

In France I believe the window opens later than in England, so a deal couldnt be concluded until the French window opens on 1st July, whereas ours opens at the end of the season. Also, we may wish to see our CL fate before splashing out on M'Vila. Finally, the announcement may coincide with a date that is favourable to enhance season ticket sales. {Ed002's Note - The window in England also opens on July 1 - it is simply that transfers between players of English clubs can happen from the end of teh season. So, as an example, Arsenal can sell Park to Manchester United and buy Luis Suarez from Liverpool. However Arsenal cannot, for example, sell Park to PSG and buy Cavani from Napoli. Agreement can be reached at anytime between clubs for players to be transfered when the transfer window opens on July 1 - but the players cannot agree or sign any contracts (e.g. Podolski, Marin, Reus etc.).}

Vertonghem sounds like he is signing for the Toot. I dont believe we went for him, as we have 3 number 1 centre backs, plus Djourou & possibly Bartley & Miquel. We have 2 left backs & assuming we sign M'Vila we have Song, M'Vila, Coquelin, Frimpong & Arteta who can all play in the defemsive midfield role. The interesting fact is that not one of europe's top clubs appears to have made a bid Vertonghen, which presumably means they dont rate him highly enough, particularly as he will be relatively cheap, being in the final 12 months of his deal.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Djourou is not good enough never has been.sell him promote Bartley.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate its completely untrue that we never went for him. Anyways we are still in with a shout, 3rd place will be a major deciding factor. And you think frimpong and bartley are good enough. Sorry mate bartley's positioning is awful in terms of anticipation, he is nowhere ready and I dont think he has a future at arsenal.. Frimpong very raw, lacks awareness and positional and tactical sense. He needs 1 year full on loan.. Miquel I think is better prepared than both of them but he should also not be in the first team if you really want to challenge the elites.. We need vertonghen or mbwia. Simples!

Agree0 Disagree0

Firstly, we may have gone for Vertonghen, but with 3 quality CB's he may have thought he will have to play out of his true position & prefer an almost guaranteed 1st team spot at an inferior club. I note your comments on Djourou, Bartley & Frimpong, but Wenger may not agree. He may feel that Djourou & Miquel are adequate 4th & 5th choice CB options. Frimpong will be out until October, when he may be sent out on loan or be added, as an under-age player. Financially the cost of purchasing Vertonghen, together with his wage packet, may not be worth it when we have 3 decent CB's.

Agree0 Disagree0

And you think 3 decent cbs are enough?? Wenger will buy a cb(hopefully). Just wait and see....

Really think RVP needs to come out early and give his intensions of what his doing as this will effect us in the transfer market. If his staying then will help attract players.

Believable10 Unbelievable1

Was reported a couple of weeks ago that Wenger will give him 72 hours after the W.B.A game to decide his future.. Let's hope we secure 3rd place as this is obviously pivotal in his decision and our transfer targets ..I think he'll stay

junior hoilett and del perlo to join arsenal as free agents in summer

Believable5 Unbelievable18

Why would anyone want Del Piero? He's about 90. Stupid rumour.

Agree0 Disagree0

Del piero would help shirt sales and offer advice to the younger players. plus we could do with an experienced 3rd choice striker if chamakh and park leave. del piero's actually around 37 not 90 {Ed002's Note - Arsenal do not get the money from shirt sales. The money from shirt sales goes to the manufacturer, the distributor and the retailer, who can make extra adding numbers and names to the shirts. If the club are the retailer (club shop, club website etc.) then they get the retailers cut. The manufacturer (Adidas, Warrior, Nike etc.) pay the club an amount each year which allows them to manufacture and sell the shirts using the correct logos etc.. That is how they justify the money given to the club. So if you walk in to a high street store and buy a Liverpool or Arsenal shirt - nothing goes to the club. There are a few clubs that have negotiated different deals with manufacturers (Real Madrid with Adidas and Barcelona with Nike are the two obvious examples) based upon joint reselling ventures. So the income from shirts is fixed to the £xM or whatever Adidas, Nike etc. pay the club plus a small amount for reselling through the club retail outlets (shop, web).}
