Sounds like Tierney is on his way. The start of the rebuilding of our poor defence, neither of our current left backs are impressive. I presume he doesn't qualify as homegrown. I think he was born on the Isle of Man, if that makes a difference?

I think this is a good summer if we can clear some questionable contracts and bring in some pieces for the future. With Mavropanos and Holding in getting direction from Kos or Sokratis, Mustafi sold for a bag of socks and Bellerin, it is the beginning of something positive.

He's British so he's home grown automatically, I think?

{Ed001's Note - nope, there is a distinction between Scotland and England as they have separate FAs.}

Oh ok Ed001 mate, that makes sense because in football terms we are two very different countries but I genuinely thought for some reason being British was enough, obviously the impossible has happened and I've got something wrong :-) .

{Ed001's Note - it was defo the first time that minute anyway.}

Yes a but Just being wrong once in an entire minute is still a huge step in the right direction for me Ed mate :-) well I'm impressed :-)

{Ed001's Note - makes two of us. It is the first time that has happened.}

Its genuine progress Ed mate, not very Arsenal like admittedly but real genuine progress:-)

{Ed001's Note - you should be proud of yourself.}

That’s crazy especially if Bellerin is home grown!

“What is a Home Grown Player (HGP) ? An HGP refers to any player who has played for an FA affiliated club for at least 3 years before turning 21. There is no bar on the nationality of the player. For example, Arsenal's Hector Bellerin is Spanish by nationality but is regarded as HGP. The Arsenal right-back was signed from Barcelona youth academy (La Masia) at the age of 16. So before turning 21, Hector played for more than 3 years for Arsenal. That is why Bellerin is regarded as an HGP. ”

I thought is was British not English but the rules a joke. Just like Arteta once being eligible to play for England. farce.

{Ed001's Note - why is it a joke? Why would it be British when they are under different FAs and play in different leagues?}

When you think about it SY is only right that if the home nations want to be 4 independent nations when it suits then it has to work that way when it doesn't suit as well.
I'm with you I did genuinely think there was a British loophole but obviously not.
Personally I think home grown should be only for players of that nation which would give young nationals of every nation more opportunities, 8 of all 26 man squads should English in England French France Spanish Spain ect.

Ed, my main point is Bellerin dyeing home grown doesn’t protect English talent and Arteta should never be entitled to play for England. Cesc returning to Chelsea and being homegrown- farce. Surely you agree with that?

{Ed001's Note - I don't really see a need to protect English talent. If they work hard enough and are good enough they will make it. They need to stop being so entitled and protected and earn the right to play in the league.}

62 - the confusing piece was Wales .

any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales

I thought it was to promote talent of the home nations but clearly not and I am wrong again a!

I got it wrong too SY, like I tell my missus at least people know where they are with me, I'm not one these blokes who is sometimes right sometimes wrong, I'm consistent if nothing else :-)

Absolutely agree with you ed, many times over. If English lads want to be successful, they need to work just as hard as the Spanish/ French/ Brazilian/ etc or else teams will continue to look elsewhere for top talent. Personally I always like seeing English players like Sancho take the risk and challenge themselves.

Agreed but if that’s the goal then why allow Cesc to be HGP for us and even worse return to Chelsea and still be HGP. stupid and does nothing to achieve the goal except to grease the wheel with EPL clubs so they agree etc.
