Morning Ed,
Do you know if Arsenal are looking at Doucoure as a cheaper option to Partey by any chance?
Many thanks.

{Ed002's Note - It is possible but certainly Everton has shown an interest.}

It would be a smart option but we're not great at taking the smart option so I imagine that Everton will get something done relatively quickly.

Is that the same Everton who smartly paid 35 million for Iwobi?

Iwobi has been one of Everton’s better players until he got injured.

I didn't say they were smart mate either, just that it would be a smart deal for us that we'll ponder about and lose out on.

I don't think Doucoure is what we need. Not an improvement over Ceballos or Torreira. Much rather we went for the of Partey.

It's all about funds though wire. Partey would be fantastic but is one signing like that really beneficial when we could make a number of signings in key areas? Doucoure would add stability and a bit of power to our midfield, much like Partey but probably at a 3rd of the cost. We also lack creativity so DC can then play further up the pitch rather than being box to box (if we can get a loan extension) . Those 2 deals, subject to player sales, could even give us an opportunity to complete a deal for Coutinho as well who would add quality and more creativity going forward. He can play Central and out on the left of we need him to especially is Saka had to cover somewhere else.

I'm just not sold on these punts we seem to take Glen. I get the feeling Doucoure will be a decent stopgap at best, probably bench for half our games, then in 2-3 years it will be a question of trying to shift him on through a couple of loan-to-buy situations like with Mkhi and Elneny.

Does Doucoure offer more than Willock or Ainsley (who was superb in the final) ? A little, maybe? I'd rather we only took punts if it was a real diamond in the rough situation, like with Guendouzi, and instead focused on supplementing our brilliant youth players with clearly excellent talent.
