Anyone think that possibly Gervinho to Roma, could not be part of the deal but an agreement for us to sign Lamela in return?

Selling a player to a club, generally does not affect them selling a player to you in return. If it did it would be part of a swap deal.
The fact we sold RVP to United doesn't mean it was a deal to get Rooney this year, for example.
