Hi, is there a chance the reason ozil is not making the substitute bench that he has a large unused substitute fee in his contract? Having read recently about wengers refusal to play ox because of a clause in his contract stating we had to pay Southampton a certain amount per game (or something like that) , it wouldn't surprise me.

It's far more simple, Ozil simply doesn't suit the intensity of PL football.

{Ed001's Note - and yet when played regularly he created the most chances in Europe while playing for Arsenal. He is dropped because he and Emery do not see eye-to-eye. It is a personality clash nothing else.}

Ozil should be playing - simple

Emery can’t handle big players and we are worse for it - can’t do a lot of things but let’s stsy on the one thread.

As xhaka does suit it too well to be a regular starter and as Iwobi and micki creating more chances, this is the worst management decision is made.

Leaving big players out has to come with impressive results and performances where the manager is proven to know what he's doing.
It didn't work for Jose with Pogba and it hasn't worked for Emery with Mesut.
If we suddenly looked tighter at the back and in midfield without Ozil then who could argue with Emery?
But the fact is we concede just as many chances without Mesut as we do with but create a lot lot less.
It almost reminds me of Steve Maclaren and David Beckham situation with England between 2006/ 7.
You have to get the really big calls right or you end up looking out of your depth.

Yes, Ozil creates chances, but in order to win the Premier league players must have an all-round game and at Arsenal we have too few complete players. Iwobi, Ramsey, Ozil, Mkhitaryan, all lack quality when defending. This places immense pressure on the defence, which also contains the likes of Bellerin and Kolasinac that are not great defensively, but offer more offensively.

{Ed001's Note - all-round game? Yaya Toure strolled around offering nothing for 85 minutes a game but City win the league. You need a balanced team, not 11 balanced players.}

61 - what’s your point. Interested in your opinion and if the issue is Ozil or the other players. :)

SY4 - My point is that in the modern PL game, players are expected to perform both defensively and offensively, gone are the days when teams carried players who could only perform either defensively or offensively, particularly where the current 'pressing' trend is concerned. In recent seasons Wenger acquired too many players that were mainly attacking players. In his first decade at the club, we had players who contributed defensively and offensively, particularly in midfield. The players I mentioned offer little defensively, particularly Ozil, and hence the defence comes under increased pressure, with little assistance from the players I mentioned.
I think that is a bit of a harsh comment in respect of Yaya Toure, who admittedly did stroll around at the end of his career at City, but at his peak he could play as a DM and offered offensively. He scored a goal on average every 4 matches for Man City. He was closest I have seen to Patrick Vieira, both being what I call vertical midfield players, playing from back to front and not sideways, if that makes sense.

{Ed001's Note - I give up, you are just a waste of time trying to discuss things with. Like Vieira my arse. What are you on?}

The thing is there are more than one way to make a meal fit fur a King.
Conti won the title playing 3 at the back and converted Victor Mosses into a wing back, so others including Arsene thought ok I will do that with Ox
Then came Pep with his sweeper come keeper who was as good with his feet as his was with his hands, Dick come in and thought right Petr Cech needs to become Petr Hoddle.
Trying to copy what other people are doing brilliantly with a completely different set of players to what you have is a mugs game because it will take you 3 or 4 years to assemble to get the right ingredients together by which time others have already evolved and moved away from where you've Just arrived at.
Surely getting the best out of what you have is the secret to good management and if 4 4 2 or 4 5 1 gets the best out of your team them what's it matter what others are doing.
Ideals are fantastic but not to be pursued at all costs regardless of all sense.

That's the crux g62, dick has to work with what he's got or get smart buys. Copying pepwas never going to work, pep had the advantage of being able to get the absolute best players available for his system as money was no issue, I want a sweeper keeper, see you later England no1 and long time servant, you don't cut it, get bravo, he doesn't cut it get ederson the next year. I need fast full backs spend over 100 mil on 3 of them including more on a back up then we would spend on a first choice. I need fast wingers, I've got sterling and sane but I will our transfer record so mahrez can keep our bench warm! Emery not got that luxury if he gets rid of ozil will get anywhere near his quality as a replacement? He's got him, he's going to struggle to get rid of ozil, if you can find a way to get the best out of ozil he's magnificent! I was most hoping a new manager would find a way to get the best out of ozil lac and auba, one of the best chance creators and two of the best finishers yet sadly we've got to see them together too few times.

Absolutely Eden mate, why would you try and serve up a beef Wellington when you don't have prime cuts of beef or any pastry at your disposal but you do have some very nice mince beef and potatoes that have the potential to be an extremely tasty cottage pie.
If Poch had gone to Spurs and acted as if he'd just landed in Madrid or Barcelona then Spurs would still be playing Thursday night football.

It just bugs me when they keep mentioning what Emery’s lift with, we don’t have the worst individual set of players, in fact they are above average but not been set properly.
Arsene was slated every time he selected Xhaka, I don’t see anyone even mentioning it these days.
You have a player like ozil with his vision play him in front of Torreira and Gouendouzi and behind laca and auba. Use his talent instead of killing his motivation and hunger which I think Emery already did.

{Ed0333's Note - I cant understand for the life of me why Ozil can’t get into the Arsenal team it’s a flipping mystery.

I think most people expected our new manager to be different Moe and for Xhaka days to be numbered but we seem to have found another Arsene who sees what no one else sees in Xhaka, at the start of the season every other post was complaining about Xhaka being selected but most people now seem resigned to the fact Dick is going to play Xhaka come what may regardless of performance and he isn't going to play Lacasette Pea and Ozil together because he doesn't want to.
Darsene Wengemery isn't for turning any more now than he was before he regenerated from the previous Doctor.

It’s not like we are better without him, it’s not like we are creating more chances, it’s not like we are leaking less goals, it’s not like who’s on are better than him. it just doesn’t make sense.
