Had a conversation a while back about modern defenders with ed001 and he commented that players don't like positional training so it's generally suffered. Just wondering why any self motivated player wouldn't totally train that aspect of his game so he then has a skill that others haven't and theoreticaly might end up at a team that's above his level but his position of himself and others around him make him integral to the team. Or I'm I over thing things lol.

{Ed001's Note - because it is seen as very boring. Managers that do still concentrate on positional training are those such as Hodgson. They repeat the drills over and over. Players lose interest after a while.}

Must be hard doing things you do like doing and find boring as part of your job, not like factory workers delivery drives and bricklayers where it's a laugh and minute 24/ 7, it's a tough old life as a footballer, and they have to work weekends and evenings too :-)

I remember people acting like they were amazed that Ronaldo stays after training to recover and does recovery work on his own. You're a pro who wants to get better, this stuff should be your bread and butter. Per gave an interview where he said the only people who attended recovery sessions after training were him, Monreal, Bellerin and Rosicky if I recall correctly and everyone else would sack off home to play FIFA. It blows my mind that pros on hundreds of thousands a week can't be arsed to be better.

{Ed001's Note - Nedved used to stay behind to practice with his weaker foot, until it became his stronger foot, then he would practice with the other one and so on throughout his career. Oh and the first thing he would do when he got home after training was use his own personal gym at home to train his fitness!}

Well ed001, that's a player who wnats to be the best at what he does not like most modern footballers. But as g62 mentioned its tough to be a footballer these days earning loads of cash but they have to work weekends and not allowed late nights. You got to feel for them :)

{Ed001's Note - oh yes, I really feel for them, it must be so hard having to give up weekends to play football. Not like any of us would choose to do that.....}
