Fantastic manager and fantastic character too.
Imagine a side doing today What Clough did with Forest taking a club from the second tier of English football and making them European champions within 3 seasons, and in those days there was no top 4 qualification you had to win the your countries league to get into Europe's elite competition back then and as if that wasn't unbelievable enough his Forest side also retained their European title 12 months later, unquestionably Roy of the Rovers stuff.
Does that make Clough the best ever manager ever? He'd be in the running with Fergie Shanks and Wenger that's for sure especially considering he also won the title with Derby too.

{Ed001's Note - you forgot Paisley!}

Yes Bob did an incredible job following Shanks Ed001 mate a job few thought he or anyone capable of, the only thing the other 4 have over Bob was they inherited under achieving sides where as Bob had Shanks legacy, but still he achieved fantastic things even Bill couldn't manage.

{Ed001's Note - nobody else has ever managed to take over from a manager with such a huge personality and actually improve matters. He won more European Cups than any other manager of a British side ever has and he was only in charge for 9 years.}

Very true Ed mate, I remember him getting the job and thinking no way Pedro but he proved me and plenty more wrong. Those Liverpool teams were like machines that really only Forest challenged consistently, Sir Bobby's Ipswich and Aston villa flirted with them but only Forest prevented total domination and Liverpool having completly their own way if memory serves me right!

{Ed001's Note - pretty much mate. As Paisley said, we had some bad years, we finished second sometimes.}

They were good days, even though we were never in the running for the league, MOTD on a Saturday made football on tv more appealing you’d really look forward to it, only one sub, FA Cup replays a plenty, 3rd round of the FA cup having all matches played at the same time .

Pitches not green but brown knee deep in mud

Good days.

Never forget a FA Cup semi final being played on a pitch that looked like a sand pit

Loved FA Cup day - huge build up and special day

Remember first finding out transfers etc on Ceefax under the clubcsll page.

Me and my mate met Cloughie once in a pub in nottinghamshire by chance and he seemed just a normal nice guy, my mate was clued up on forest and cloughie was impressed, especially as he was a chelsea fan. Gary Crosby apparently fitted his new kitchen for him, can you imagine any player today in the prem doing that.

Cloughie used to run a post office in Wollaston. You would see him and Nigel there helping out occasionally - nice family but I am told it was Cloughie’s way or the high way. Once crossed - no return. Loved what he said about Wenger’s team when it was on fire.

It's easy to for Arsenes brilliance during his first 8 years to be forgotten because of his steady decline over the 14 seasons that followed especially when the last 5 years seemed to last 20 years SY mate, but once some time has passed I think we will all let go of where his Arsenal career finished and remember the good times, and boy were they ever good!
I doubt we will ever see the likes of those again, those who are to young to remember them maybe fortunate enough to see similar but for the rest of us asking for that standard of brilliance excitement and total class on grass excellence to happen on a football field from our team twice in one life time would be greedy, hopefully we will all see us flirt with than standard again but actually attain it? We should be so lucky:-)
