Mikhi playing on RWB against an almost full strength RM lineup (Minus Varane/ Vinicus) ?

Even during pre-season this seems desperate to me.

Shows what he thinks of Monreal/ Mustafi/ Jenko.

To be fair that's what friendlies are for, results mean absolutely nothing it's all about fitness and experimenting.
Beating Real in a pre season friendly would be completely meaningless in reality while the result at Newcastle is what's really important.

Jenkinson played RWB for the entire game and he put a decent shift in. He was only player not subbed who walked off the pitch dripping with sweat. Cliche I know but it was certainly a game of 2 halves with our defence looking dreadful as always. I'll exclude Jenkinson from that because he worked his socks off. It will be a shame if the Ceballos loan is affected by the injury to Asensio but it happens and we'll have to find someone else somehow. Or perhaps rely on Willock and Maitland-Niles in their preferred positions and focus on improving the defence. Not long left but plenty of time to get deals done, although it's seeming more and more likely that we will end up with the same 1st XI as last season.

Organisation of the defence is the only thing that will improve it Glen, we genuinely could buy any CB in the world and still not improve if we don't train and organise out defence into an effective cohesive unit that works as team within a team then it will simply continue to be our downfall as always.
There is no substitute for organisation and discipline plus players understanding what is expected of them and believing in what they are being asked to do, just look at Liverpool and how they operate as a team, that's been achieved on the training field not simply by the board signing cheques.
Emery has to change his ways if we are to have a chance of improving.

I somewhat agree Gunner mate but you have to take in to account the players that we are trying to achieve this with. I don't honestly think that anyone can get more out of the sh**e we are fielding. If you stick Bellerin and Holding back in, with some new quality defenders, I think that will improve itself to a certain extent. Defenders that can actually tackle, who are already disciplined and have a good level of defensive awareness will help aid the others to become more organised. Although yes, it's certainly an area of the pitch we need to pay some more attention too and try and sort out the disaster we have at the back!

Agree glen mate, jenko did more than fine in the game. But the way we conceded the two goals were defensive unawareness. I think our problem not a wide player as much is our defence. Sokratis and Holding will do fine but the way they will be set and organised what worries me.

I'm not sure how it's done now days but I know under Arsene our players were banned from making proper tackles in training so as to not injure each other, like that worked.
All it did was make our players soft and give the attacking players a false sense of brilliance on the training field then struggle when they faced real defenders and of course how could our defenders ever hope to perfect they're own skills if they were not allowed to practice them day in day out as other top players do.
Mustafi doesn't look good but he is most definitely better than we've seen from him if not how did he ever play for World champions Germany or command a fee of 34 million in the first place mate?
I'm not saying he's world class but he is definitely capable of more than we see from him and so are others too.
