1 point out of 6, much as I like Arteta I believe appointing him as Arsenal manager having no managerial experience was risky to say the least.
Ancelotti has started with 2 wins.
Next match we play on form Man U, another defeat won't bode well. Such a shame we didn't go for and secure Pochettino.
In the January window the club must make every effort to bring in a minimum of 2 players, ideally 3.

{Ed002's Note - Pochettino was never an option. It is the joke of a structure at the club that meant that yet again Arsenal was down the list of options.}

Mate, the two goals we conceded yesterday were down to individual mistakes nothing to do with management
How would having a different manner prevented them?
I don't know what game you were watching, but I saw a massive change inthe shape of the team and finally looked like we had a game plan.

I like how we are already improving under arteta but again think I was one of the only ones happy we gave him a try I think he will get us playing good football and harder to beat I don't think we will get top 6 this year I just hope he gets the team playing right and getting it ready for next season. Maybe go all out in the europa league.

Massive improvement yesterday gutted we lost, I’d rather we finish 8/ 9th stay out of Europa and focus next year on getting top 4 . Go for Europa league this year if get it result but can’t see it have to be realistic need everyone behind the team going be long season but from what I saw yesterday big improvements 👍.

The reality is Poch was never an option but for RG the actual reality everyone else lives in is nothing more than one of life's minor irritations.
Come 2023 RG will have forgotten all about Poch and Chris Smalling and will be telling us how he and he alone predicted that Arteta and his legend of a captain Calum Chambers would deliver us our first champions league title when everyone else wrote Artetta off after 2 games :-) .

He wasn’t my first choice - Ancelotti was but I think Big Dunc got Everton on track and two games is not the barometer. However, I have been very impressed with the changes he made in terms of style of play, set up, work ethic and organisation. Individuals have improved already, players look happier, we are player far better football and I like the strategy he has. I’m happy with him and looking forward to Top Half finish as long as we are heading in the right direction.
What I don’t get is your love for Emery at the time and desire to give him multiple windows when after a full first pre-season you could see he was not up to the task and had no vision of what he wanted us to look like or play. If you don’t have a vision and are poor at communicating - how do the team perform? He was terrible from day 1 and had no vision, poor decisions, poor communication etc etc
Why is Arteta not given 1/ 50th of the time to gain your trust. If we keep forward momentum and play like we did in the first half, we won’t have a problem. I know you think I’m an Emery hater but I said I’m happy coming 10th if our performances improve and we address weaknesses and have a vision. I’m consistent with that view with Arteta.
For me he’s done more in a few weeks than Emery did full stop.
Let’s get behind him and not look over our shoulder at what we could have had or we’re never going to see the issues coming at us or appreciate what we’ve got.
You’re entitled to your view - clearly but why not give Arteta ( ex-captain ) the time and respect he deserves when you kept giving Emery more and more chances.
COYG.

Interesting comments from Keown, Dixon etc on the changes. Now PEA

“He’s only been in charge for a few days but we’ve seen a big difference already, ” the Gabon international wrote in the matchday programme for the clash against Chelsea

“We needed someone with new ideas, with a new message and someone who would take us in a different direction.

“Mikel has brought all of that. We needed a fresh new start and something different and we can feel it already.

“He is very rigorous and demanding on the training pitch. It’s all about details with him so he talks a lot, repositions us, explains a lot of little things.

“His message to the players was clear and well received. It was about attitude and commitment.

“He wants us to be at 200 per cent all the time; to give everything we have and leave it all on the pitch.

“It’s exciting for us because it’s so different to everything we have done and experimented with before.

“It is a new dawn and you can feel how positive everyone is at the club about it. ”.

Arteta is bringing in new methods tactics ideas and creating a whole new way of thinking and hopefully a winning competitive mentality back to the club will finally draws a line under the past and allow us to move on as team and hopefully as an entire club.
I'm going to get sooooo much stick for this but I hope Liverpool do go the entire season unbeaten because it would finally set us free as a club from the past.
Our 2003 2004 team were unbelievably brilliant and gave us so many wonderful memories that none of us will ever forget but unfortunately we didn't build on that time we simply dined out on it for the next 14 years.
As wonderful as our past has been it's now ancient history and Liverpool could really do us a huge favour by forcing us as an entire club to look forward for greatness rather than backwards.

I agree with the comments backing arteta. I was very sceltical but read his interviews, comments from Porch when arteta was at psg, comments from others at Barca, guardiola getting him giving team talks and doing the opposition team analysis and he clearly has the confidence and intelligence. It's then down to his man-management (direct or through others) and backing from the club. I thought we looked really good yesterday - 1 bad judgement from Leno (which he's done a few time before tbh) , a rusty and error prone mustafi got nervous and made a bad call not going tight to his man (but not actually a definite goal scoring error) and it all turned. That can be ironed out with Leno, and likely avoided by mustafi leaving. I can't see any reason why we shouldn't give arteta complete support for at least the season and a half that Emery had, if not 2 before we even consider getting restless.

{Ed047's Note - totally agree Jim he’s really impressed me in the short space of time he’s been here.

Conversely I couldn’t disagree more with the embarrassing OP.

I desperately want Arteta to do well. However, I have reservations. With Bournemouth’s injury problems I would have expected a win and a draw yesterday. 4 points would have shown a true impact. 1 point, is no better than Emery and Freddie would have probably achieved. If we lose to Man U the new manager impact will be over.

{Ed025's Note - its nice to see your prepared to give mikel some time mate.. :)

Years of bizarre tactics methods and team management won't be put right in a week which is exactly how long Mikel had been in charge as of yesterday.

16 years of continued and consistent decline accumulating with this seasons offering of the worst Arsenal team since the 70s possible longer, what more than we've already seem could possibly or reasonably be expected?

The job he's walked into makes the job Arsene inherited from Bruce and the job Emery inherited from Arsene look like a job selling beer on new years Eve.

Emery went on a 20+ unbeaten run after losing the first two matches to top teams. This provided time for him. As soon as we had a bad November run in his second season it was over for him. Emery had a track record as a manager including trophies.

Pleasant as Arteta is, he has zero experience and I would be shocked if he proves successful. However, he has my support and I truly hope I am proven wrong. The January window will be imperative. He was get two or three quality players in, failing which I can only see us struggle this season.

{Ed047's Note - the 20 game unbeaten run was laughable where we looked like we could lose as likely as we could win.

We remained inept throughout Emery’s tenure and he should have been jettisoned after the mess at the end of last season where he failed to make top 4 when it was in our hands and got us battered in the EPL final.

His CV was laughable and he was clearly out of his depth.

If you cannot see the improvement in a week of Arteta against the abject failure of Emery over 18 months then you seriously do not have a clue about football.

911, if the jan window is imperative, then we're doomed. ed002 had repeatedly said that we're a mess financially and therefore either will get no big reinforcements in jan (and the summer) , or have to sell to buy. I have no idea of valuations, but even if we were able to offload the likes of mustafi, xhaka, Luiz etc. we're going to be looking at young/ untested players and we have those already and in saliba so can't see much happening tbh. I think its more likely arteta will try to battle through to summer with what we have. I think that's the smart choice too, unless we can offload obvious players and need replacements. That's fine with me.

IAWT :)

We will have to beg to differ and time will tell. Emery was an experienced top level manager who had won trophies. He improved our points total, finished higher in the league and reached a cup final in his first season. Arteta is a huge risk, as we know. It’s a result business and despite the new manager bounce we only have a single point from two matches. As I say I pray I am wrong, but nothing suggests to me that Arteta is the answer. Time will tell.
