Willian - Five recoveries, hit the post and 3 assists including his saved shot. Pretty good game - not sure Pepe will be in the starting 11 with a fit Willian as he offers so much more and is more direct. Well played Willian.

Fingers crossed for a CDM like Gabriel. A mountain of a player who knows how to defend, built like a modern day strong Centrehalf plus plenty of pace. Can't wait to see Saliba and Gabriel at the back as a unit. Don't care if it's a back 3 with Holding, Luiz or Mari or part of a back four with Cedric and Tierney. actually excited about our defence. Really excited about our attack. Frustrated about the keeper situation especially if we sell Emi for just 16m.

My main concern is our midfield still. We are now just one or may be two CDM beasts from an excellent side or just one from a Top 4 side.

{Ed047's Note - I hope so too mate, Saliba is the same size as Gabriel so it would be great if they both get going quickly, I could see Arteta playing them either side of Luiz.

I was sort of hoping that might be the plan Ed47 mate but I heard Holding did well too and Mikel said he's going nowhere. Interesting times if Arsenal suddenly had a glut of reliable CBs after going 10 years with just Kos fitting that description :-)

I have very mixed feelings about our current 3-4-3 formation, which in effect is really a 5-2-3 formation as the two wide midfielders are essentially fullbacks. The 3 CD, s has certainly helped Holding improve, and will probably be best to bed in the new signings. However, as poor as Fulham were yesterday there were times when they got the ball to and around our penalty area easily. This is because we frequently kept 5 Defenders in a line, marking no-one in particular. This was especially the case when Mitrovic came on and was dropping into midfield. This resulted in our midfield being overrun at times with the 2 central midfielders relying on our forward players to come back and help. Therefore our center backs Either need the confidence and communication for one of them to come out and take up that DM role when needed, or we need to return to a back 4 and get that extra body permanently in midfield.

I can’t see - Laca - Willian - Pepe and PEA all starting a PL game, super super adventurous IMO.
