£17m as is being "reported" as the fee we shall receive for Martinez is a reasonable dollop of jolly, although I have no idea how it will be structured of course - knowing us, we will have just asked Villa to stump up "when they are ready" as they must be a tad stretched at the moment what with Matty Cash, Ollie Watkins, Grealish's new contract and the impending expenditure on Traoré - but I wonder whether Emi has made a smart move here?

Tom Heaton must be a widgeon peeved (and he is as good a keeper as Emi in my view) plus they have Nyland who played first team last season. I assume Pepe Reina has gone.
No matter, not my club, not Arsenal's problem, but it does seem a bit strange. And I kind of feel we have a duty of care to any of our players, as to where we flog them on. Or am I being naive?

I note that Everton are looking to offload some of their squad now - Messrs Walcott and Iwobi being deemed surplus to requirements.
No! Really?

Yet somewhere there is a player in Iwobi, he just needs the right team and coach to bring it out in him. I'm not saying he's ever going to make the top 10 all time great lists but under Emery week saw a different harder working Iwobi than we'd ever seen before so the potential is there somewhere.
Theo should have been played down the middle from a young age, as a winger his pace useful but he was never going to be anything special on the wing but down the middle his pace was a huge problem for CBs and as long as he wasn't given to much time to think he was instinctively a very good finisher. At 18 or 19 he looked unbelievable at 23 he looked a mid table player at best.

Yeah gunner62 Wenger messed up Walcott too much playing him on wing, to me he is classic 2 up top playing on the last defender with a big target man and walcott feeding of the knockdowns.

Good deal I feel all round for Martinez he gets guarantee 1st team action Villa get a keeper that may well keep them up this season and we get a decent sum for a keeper that come 6 months ago would have been lucky to get 2M for and give us a chance to continue to strengthen elsewhere.

Totally agree Ryan mate, you can't kept two good keepers happy for long and selling Martinez was much easier than Leno plus as you say 6 months ago no one would have noticed if we'd let Martinez go for next to nothing.
