This is what's frustrating.

On PEA,

"Right now he cannot play centrally because he would have to chase the ball and press all the time.

"This is what Arteta is asking his number nine to do and Lacazette can do that and I don't think Aubameyang can do it, or it would be crazy to ask that kind of job of Aubameyang. He can't play in the centre.

Challenge

"If you look at stats of expected goals, touches in the opposition box, shots of course.

"If you don't shoot you can't score, regardless of your expected goals.

"If he's not in the position to shoot, if he doesn't have the ball in the box, he can't score.

So simple. but we have such a rigid mindset that we miss the objective. To win and to play well.

You could argue that Ozil is a casualty of this mindset also.

As a result we play boring football and play people out of position.

I don’t get all this talk of PEA playing centrally

He played on the left last years and scored 25+ goals and I’m pretty sure he played wide left for Dortmund

He’s just not playing well.

He scored goals last year under MA pre-C.V. because we had Ozil in the team and we took more risks in the final third. He continued to score post-C.V. even after Ozil was dropped because we changed our set-up to play counter-attacking football and always looked to play him in behind on the left. However with the overly safe possession-based football we are playing this season our wide players simply don't get goalscoring opportunities created for them. You can't deny that 1) Auba would score more goals in this current set-up by playing centrally and 2) we would be a much better team simply without Lacazette playing as he offers absolutely nothing. Oh and Willian also offers nothing going forward.
