As Mal says we have until Aug 31 at 11 p. m. BST to make that squad overhaul that we were promised and expected. No reason for me to be super deflated but surely we want to bed in the evolved team and surely we would start to see the team and manager learning from mistakes.

You cannot read to much into preseason - correct and the invincibles may have had a shocker BUT the season before was a great season and the team had an identity, leaders and a strong core. We aren't there today so that statement gives me no comfort.

My hope was a revolution in the squad and backroom staff and a realisation from the manager that he needs help and stronger people around him to make up for his inexperience and man-management. These were exposed last year when big in game decisions needed to be made due to questionable tactics, selection and set up. Preseason should have shown that piece changing.
For me it's the performances and we are still making silly mistakes and lacking a cutting and creative edge . I was looking forward to a more dynamic style of play and the sale of Granit was the catalyst for change and a symbol of wanting change. No different to us "not allowing players to run down contract" or "over pay them so we are stuck with them. " All false dawns.
Am I looking at the negatives - yes because I believed we were about to see a revolution. Is there time to change - yes but we are doing it the hard way and won't be ready for the start of the season.
I don't love or hate Arteta - he annoys me and I don't feel we have given custody of our great club to an appropriate adult. I love my club and only want the best - we gave Wenger to easy a time at the end. I'd rather be watching him manage the team as we greatly underachieved last season and we've never spent so much money while also playing poor football. Wenger was naive and needed to go but I hoped he would be replaced with a decent manager who knew our weaknesses and strengths.
I don't mean to be negative - I just had high hopes and high expectations. Not because of self-entitlement but if we let standards slip - we will struggle longterm. The board seem to be throwing money at wages and signings.
I think we all want the best for the club, I don't want Arteta sacked - I just want a decent manager who can manage big names, plays to the teams strength, addresses weaknesses and plays entertaining football.
It's a banter site - post your opinion. No ones opinion is wrong, even Raver. Don't leave the site as it requires opinions and I love reading opposite opinions.
Hope you all have a great day and hope you keep posting Dave et a. Remember - we suddenly buy what we need and this site changes over night. A goalie, right back and some creative spark changes things for me and I'm still hoping there's an agreement with Granit that he can leave if Roma step up.

COYG.

Sy, it’s not people’s posts that annoy me, it’s when they repeat themselves 20 times.
How many times do we have to read the same posts about Salina, whites transfer fee, even ozil comes up the odd time.

By all means keep posting, but some of the repetitive posts are starting to pisz me off.

We can’t buy players until we move some on. Come on 14€ million for Granit is bollox, I would rather keep him, but I’m sure he won’t be an Arsenal layer come the end of the window.

The youngsters who have signed new contracts must see something in Mikel and the clubs vision, let’s give arteta a chance.

Mal - you haven’t mentioned Arteta, his failure to learn from last seasons mistakes will bite us - like SY I don’t love or hate MA, it’s his stubbornness and blindness that frustrates me.

I know there only pre season games but I don’t see any difference to what we see last season. same problems playing out from the back and the same mistakes being made. we need some midfield goal scorers the players we have are all the same type. xhaka has never been or ever will be good enough and he’s offering him a bee contract what does that say .

Regarding the preseason, I can't see we can expect much difference with the same players. Leno is not happy with playing out from the back and I remember reading he was more comfortable with the old goalkeeping coach. Its a position that needs maximum confidence otherwise the back line has no confidence either. He is a brilliant shot stopper but is that enough for Arsenal? Onona is being linked again today so who knows. And the Sheffield Utd stopper.
We are being linked with many good players, and I'm pretty sure things will heat up towards the end of the window.
If that goal had been allowed I think 2-2 is a good result against Chelsea. Goal line technology would have ruled in our favour I bet.
Xhaka is marmite and is so polarising. He has it in him (see how he motivated his countrymen at the Euros) but then he let them down by not being able to play in the most important match of the competition! Perhaps he's being offered a new contract to up his value going forwards? The thing is he is a regular in the team - the managers (past and present) seem to have faith in him.
The transfer business is brutal, you might agree a deal and then the player doesn't want to move to that club or the player wants the move but the clubs can't agree a deal, so nothing is easy. A positive is that Kia doesn't seem to be mentioned at the moment :)
I LOVE Arsenal and my gut feeling is that a lot of work is being done to upgrade and move forward in a more competitive direction. It can't be done as quickly as we would all like of course.
We have a core of brilliant young Gunners who love the club and who seem to respect the work Arteta is doing, including Odegaard who has stated he loved working with him.
Let's see what the next 3 weeks brings!
Cant wait to see what Brentford Super Bees are made of :)

Good post Sally but I will mention Xhaka, international football suits him as it’s slower, he can’t react or think quick enough in the PL. Xhaka is clearly over valued by the club or we would have sold him . It’s only Xhaka’s back pocket that benefits from a new contract.

Mal- how many times did we have to read you slating Arsenals greatest ever manager mate?
It’s all opinions fella, it’s just hard to get upbeat the season ahead when your team just had there worst season ever and yet we look exactly the same going into this season.

Je, Wenger was good up until 2005 and then for 13 years he was terrible
Wenger was very lucky to inherit a core of George Graham players and with the massive support of David Dein was able to develop a team. Tony Adams was able to install the arsenal way of doing things to the likes of Paddy and petite. A massive shout has to go out to David Dein
Dein brought in Sol Campbell

Yes he was a good manager but did we hit heights that we should off?

For 13 years we was stale, predictable and a push over, was that a sign of a world class manager?

I will say it one last time, I do not support Wenger, Emery or arteta, I support The Arsenal

I will support arteta until Christmas and that’s it.

For me Sally, it’s that insistence that we play out from the back, but with no apparent idea what to do next. Playing out from the back is ok if you do it with the prime objective of moving the ball forward. We play out from the back and then stop. It gives the opposition so much confidence to press, as even when we break it, we are so slow in the next phase the other team can just drfft back. Also our play is so intricate that so many things needs to fall in place for it to work. Yes when it does, we look superb, but we then all get frustrated when we appear take a step back the following week. So for me he needs to vary our style more, and play a slightly simpler football, which means at times being more direct.
