if eddie signs this new contract offer and we do not sign a top striker, that shows the lack of ambition we have.

sorry but imo eddie is not the striker who will take us forward, he will have 3/ 4 good games then go missing for 10.

Alright Mark mate,
Not to be argumentative, but Nketiah signing a new contract is not synonymous with us signing a top striker.
I’m sure there could be an agreement whereby we satisfy Nketiahs contract requirements and still sign another striker.
He’s homegrown and while I share your sentiments about consistency, I think we would be harsh to speculate that he would have ‘3/ 4 good games and go missing for 10’ having never played 13 or 14 games in a row for Arsenal let alone started 13 or 14, like, let’s say, Lacazette has.
If Lacazette is the benchmark for a back up to a top striker, i.e Aubameyang, then I don’t think there can be any doubt Nketiah would be an upgrade on Lacazette to whatever incoming striker we might sign this summer, and again he’s homegrown and has emotional ties to the club, which are important to Arteta, as well as us fans when it comes to where we want to try get to over the next few years.
My only issue with him personally is his attitude, not his application because I find his hustle refreshing comparable to some recent Arsenal players, but just sometimes his demeanour. There is something just below the surface there, almost like a chip on the shoulder, that Saka, ESR, Reiss and AMNs do not demonstrate. Maybe it’s because he feels in training he is consistently showing he should be starting ahead of his piers in the striker role, maybe it’s just inherent ego, I can’t tell.
But if he could put this attitude second for the greater good of the squad and go out and perform consistently and selflessly for the team, then there’s no disputing he is worthy of an Arsenal shirt and after that it becomes about what legacy he wants for himself.
Does he want to be an Ian Wright, or a journeyman with other premier league clubs with a lesser profile?
It’s down to him now if a contract is signed but I really don’t think it can be a negative for us.

Don't be so negative fellow, Eddie can sign the contract and we still sign a top striker (preferred one with height) or two. I still don't think there's an abundant of top quality strikers out there to go around for years now.

Let's wait and see what the club manage to bring in then we debate how we'll perform and where we will finish and what we'll win.

appreciate the responses and always respect your opinions guys, but if eddie was to sign he surely must have been made assurances that he'll be a regular starter, which makes me think we won't sign a top forward because game time was one reason he wasn't signing.

sorry if sound like i am moaning and being negative but it's my opinion, and that would not surprise me at all.

I have always wondered how far Eddie could go. He is a serious young man so it's hard to judge what he's feeling. Because he has had so few starts (until recently) I was always nervous watching him lead the line.

I'm pretty sure he won't be our number 1 striker this year but I hope he has a good run in the EL and I think that will show him a lot about his level. Mikel has said his work ethic is very good so that's positive.

I suppose his big decision has to be whether he wants to be no.2 with us or no.1 with someone else.

Totally agree Yard mate, wait and see what the club do or don't do before throwing away your season ticket or booking seats for the CL final 2024.

Most of the time it's not what is actually really happening that upsets us, but the thoughts of what might or might not happen that really winds us up. Which when you think about it's totally self inflicted misery ????.

Backup striker is a good role for a team in 4 competitions when you're young. Eddie will almost certainly start our cup games and EL ties and be a great impact sub when we are chasing a goal. I think this is what Arteta must have told him because there is no way we can compete in 4 comps without a top striker coming in.

if anything surely its a good thing in reference to us singing a striker, the money and wages we would have had to spend on a 2nd striker has now gone, allowing that investment to be focused on 1 striker.
I don't think Eddie will be worried about 1 other striker coming in, I think his problem has been that he has usually been 4th choice at best. Auba and lacca both got good game time, I'm sure what they will have said to him is that they are going to bring in 1 more and that will be our strikeforce.
His finishing is good, his running is good, his hustle is good, and this season we will see just how good he can be, look at how tammy has flourished. if we can get the Eddie that plays in an England shirt then we have a very decent striker in there.
IF not then we have him on a contract and won't lose him for free in a season or too.
