Usmanov jnr please tell me what's chamakh's position if he's not a striker. Also you're right when you say giroud is no huntelaar because giroud gets involved in the build-up whereas huntelaar is a deadly finisher. I'm not afraid to open my mouth so your wish of me shutting it won't come true.

champagne charlie, stoner, metal and flybo thoughts on a few things:

my problem with signing huntelaar is we all know that wenger is stubborn with the one upfront do you think this would limit giroud chances as i thinkhe is underrated and brings players into play, remeber chamakh was decent for 6 month before that dutch skunk came back from injury now look at him , wouldnt want giroud going down that way as he seems very reliant on confidence as his performance is often dictated by confidence..

As for tomorrow, i think it will be tougher as many people think, bradford cold tuesday sold out they will die on that pitch, will chamakh and arshavin sort of go yanoe what i aint here after jan do i care?, dont want us to get dragged in to a battle, what team would you play? i think id keep shezza, meade, verm, mert, jenko, coq, ramsey, rosicky, the ox ( build on the weekend) chamakh, arshavin/Pod?

comments please!

Believable0 Unbelievable2

The thing is joe this is what i do not understand about wengers thinking!
is giroud are no1 cf or does arsene have a plan,if we were to sign hunterlaar would that not mean giroud is no2?
giroud said he did not expect to play as many games this season.
where does that leave podolski?he says he wants to play as a cf.
giroud, podolski, hunterlaar as are cf looks good to me.
if theo goes would that not mean we would have to be looking for a winger or 2?
i think ramsey is gone and the ox will move into that position eventually.then you have eisfeld which i think he will start to be introduced this season and i think he will hit the big time next season.
a lot depends on if he can shift some players in january
I DONT KNOW IF THAT MAKES ANY SENSE TO YOU IM A BIT STONED.

as for the game tomorrow night i say play the best team, lets not f*** around, get the win and get home,we only have pl games now till the new year why take a chance.

Just to add joe,

i have read posts on here where people say we dont need this player "B" we have player "A", this has all ways been are problem we have never had strength in dept.

we have all ways had a $h1t hot 1st 11 but they have never been fit for more than 5-6 games at once.

so if the intention is to sign players like hunterlaar i say the more the merrier.

champagne charlie

Agree3 Disagree0

I understand the point Joe, but the way I see it, utd and city have 4 strikers fighting it out. That's what you get at big clubs. We need a bit of that. Serious competition in all areas. Henry and Bergkamp playing with Kanu and Wiltord or Suker on the bench. Like the good old days. Nothing wrong with that. We've spent far too many years depending on the one striker. Imagine Giroud, Hunterlaar, Podolski fighting it out. Happy days. On top of that epl games, league cup, f.a cup and c.l matches. It's a long old season including injuries, suspentions and just to have the opportunity to rest players is something that we haven't had for years. When we've rested players it's resulted in us getting knocked out of a cup.Giroud joined us because we are a big club. With big club comes competition, AND ABOUT BLOODY TIME.
Thank you for asking for my opinion :-)

Yorkshire joe,

Thanks for asking me and sorry for delay in my reply, re tonight, pretty sure it'll be a strong team which will include Rosicky and I'm hoping like others at least Eisfeld on the bench if not starting, ideal game for him with experience around.

Huntelaar yes why not, in reality any player is a gamble just some more than others, both Charlie and Flybo make good points about strength in depth and if you look at a core of say 15 players we don't have much outside that. We need more additions now and the summer and that shouldn't include young guns with potential.

I can only see a win for us tonight and Theo leaving next month. Shame but I don't see anything changing between now and January. He has yet to turn himself into the real deal, he's def getting better though.

Stoner

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Joe (and everyone)

Thanks for asking! My take on Huntelaar comes in different angles - would he improve our squad? Definitely. He is a necessary signing. Like Berbatov, he does not possess mad pace but he knows how to craft a chance for himself and his movement is exceptional, it's what I call phantom movement. Fabregas had it, Eisfeld has it, Berba does, Jelavic has it, that's just a few names. They always seem to pop up in the right place and Huntelaar is the same, he makes up for any lack of pace with pure instinct and he's actually very skilful at making half a yard for a shot too- something Giroud is lacking in I think. His form, price and quality mean we would be so stupid not to sign him!

HOWEVER - our problem is the formation. Technically we don't have a striker issue, we had a wide attacking mid/winger issue. Podolski, Giroud and Theo all want to play up top and unless we change formation to having 2 more central forwards, we are going to have issues keeping players happy. JKH won't want to come and not be a starter, Giroud and Podolski won't be happy being dropped. Theo imo is off, and JKH is not a Theo replacement in the slightest. Nani/Ben Arfa is the sort for that.

So my take is if we change formation, buy an amazing DM and play a 4132 formation or something like that or 4411 sort of thing then get JKH here immediately. If we stick to 433 it'll be pointless.

As for Bradford - Wenger knows they're going to aim for a huge giant killing. Bradford can play football and we're at their place. Historically speaking I am USELESS at predicting the team! Think I've only got it right once. Wenger says we're taking a strong team though as the players have time to recover. Mannone is 'back in the squad' so I'm going out on a limb here with:

Mannone, Jenko, Mert, Verm, Meade, Ramsey, Rosicky, Santi, Oxlade, Gervinho, Podolski.

Bench: Szcz, Sagna, Gibbs, Coquelin, Eisfeld, Arshavin, Chamakh

Guess we'll know soon how wrong I am!

Wenger and Gazidis have identified the players needed during the January transfer window as either to expensive or to ambitious and will instead rely on the failed formula of lower league french players and second rate africans happy to get a game. Anyone showing ambition or expecting wages similar to other clubs, will be cast out and labled as disloyal.
Bendtner will be recalled as our New signing as wenger is furious that he is likely to win a league title as this could cause massive repercussions in the changing room and could seriously damage the losing mentality.
Fans are preparing a march to show their solidarity in not signing class players, after all we are not citeh or chelski are we?

Sorry guys this is ridiculous the number of people saying they WOULDN'T take Huntelaar of all people is ludicrous. For me he is one of the best strikers in the world and if you pay attention to the champions league you would have seen how he took us apart. For me he is one of the only players who can properly replace and compete with RVP in the league and the fact they hate each other makes it even better. At £4million I would class him as a greater signing than Cazorla and possibly one of wengers best ever signings. Lets face it he is just a class above Giroud CURRENTLY, and Theo isn't a good enough striker to win you games by himself unlike Huntelaar. so get behind the team and pray that we sign Klaas jan Huntelaar.

I got a bit of criticism by some people for saying that I would give Arteta the captains armband now (yes, I mean now). TV5 is a very good player but isnt and never has been a true leader, and if anything, his performances have suffered, whereas even before the season started, I saw Arteta as the true leader with perhaps young Jack to take over in the long term. I know people have been saying that its not the right time to change or it may affect TV5, but I really do believe in strong leadership and if change is required, I would not waste time...quite honestly, we have been playing so poorly all season long (referees wont always help us like in the last game) and maybe a change in leadership might rejuvenate the team as a whole although it would take some guts from AW, of which I believe he doesnt have.

Believable4 Unbelievable3

I don't totally disagree with you but a clubs captain has to be a garunteed starter and although arteta is a great player, if we were to sign a top dm and/or diaby gets fit, I'm not sure I could find a spot for arteta, it sounds wrong to say but its true

Arteta has never had a full cap at international level. This has to be a prerequisite for an Arsenal captain.

Afternoon everyone,

It appears there is a bit of a split about Huntelaar. In my humble opinion he would be an asset to the squad. It gives us another option up front and for the money talked about, a bargain. Agree he is not the long term answer to our problems but a new face in the changing room, who has an overall decent strike rate, could bring confidence back. It also allows rotation, the opportunity to play 2 up front or one off the top man and lastly a degree of potential fear in our opponents, if he's on the bench and starts warming up. We haven't got that at the moment.

All said, I would have him in, he's not going to make the squad weaker.

I cant see why any one would disagree with this signing.
he is a goal poacher and this has been missing from our play for too many years now.
he is the sort of player that can score any time in a game and if he was used as a sub we would have a real threat coming of the bench.
he suits are style of play,he does not have a lot of speed but he has the intelligence to find space and when you play possession football like we do he will be an asset.

From what I've heard more trouble than he is worth, caused problems at Wolfsburg hence loan to Madrid last season and disappointed with Juventus previously who paid big money for him then sold him a season later. I think I'm also correct in saying he again caused problems this season and was demoted to the reserves for a while. With the arrival of Cazorla and the return of Wilshere doubt he would want a move either or be of much use to us we really need a defensive player to enhance our midfield rather than another attacking one. But that's only my opinion Will.

Usmanov jnr

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I think what these people mean is that there are better options for us, Villa is 31 now, his goals/games ratio is 28 in 59 games for Barca (Less than 1 goal every 2 games), he has just had a serious injury and may never be back 100%.

As you know we would only offer a 1 year contract over 30, plus he is a pure goal scorer and playing for Barca you would expect a goal per game from your main striker.

That my opinion anyway.

Great player, but entering his 32nd year, having had a serious injury. Personally, I would prefer Huntelaar, who is a couple of year younger & I have no doubt will score goals.

Some people should just shut up when they speak about football, Iceman saying Giroud would bench Huntelaar and Chamakh is a proper striker. Where in your life have you ever heard rubbish like this, shut up please. Huntelaar has a ****in better goal's per game ratio then your Idol van persie, you obviously have no clue about what you talking about. As for Giroud, he is ok but he is no Huntelaar that's for sure.

Usmanov Jnr

Believable6 Unbelievable1

I would like to see Huntelaar & Giroud play up front in tandem.

Agree5 Disagree1

As much as i like the huge chunk of love, KJH would push Giroud out of first preference.

a big problem which most people seem to miss is that no matter who we get in now while Wenger's still in charge, they won't be an instant hit unless they buy into the philosophy.
KJH, much like Giroud, would prefer to play as the lone front-man but do we have a team that let's a striker just strike anymore? Giroud's had to drop lower in the middle to receive the ball because we've lacked aggression up front like the years before. who's to say KJH won't have to deal with just the same?

psychocyst.

Agree0 Disagree1

Huntelaar would always start ahead of Giroud if I picked the team but don't forget it is Wenger doing so, he will probably play Huntelaar as a winger. I also personally thought Chamakh played better against Olympiakos then Giroud has for the last 5 games.

Now I dont hate Aaron Ramsey and was exited like the rest before the leg break and even that winner at united after he just came back but stats dont lie :(

Arsenal with Ramsey: win ratio 48%, 1.65 goals.

Without Ramsey: win ratio 88%, 2.78 goals.

Baz136.

Believable14 Unbelievable1

Although I do think he is not Arsenal first team quality in his defence Wenger is playing him out of position in a wide attacking role which just does not suit him atall.

Like you say stats dont lie and when he plays in that wide position it is like playing with 10 Men, he is just so ineffective there and slows the attacks down too much.

Ramsey is what I call a continuity player he will keep the ball well but he slows the play down in doing this and opts for the safe side pass over a more positive pass each time. I wonder if he would do well as a DM so we can move Arteta further forward?

Agree1 Disagree2

I am not a great fan of Ramsey, although he should be judged playing a central role in a midfield four. He certainly doesnt have the pace or craft to play out wide. Why Wenger persists with playing players out wide, when they are clearly not suitable is beyond me. Indeed, he plays the Ox inside, when he clearly is a wide player!

Agree0 Disagree0

Not an attacking player, slows play down.

He should bulk up and be converted into a deep lying midfield, Xabi alonso style.

Billybob

Agree0 Disagree0

With time and a LOT of focused training here, i think he can slot in for Arteta's role but that's like 2-3 years down the road. he's good at ticking things over but lacks clear judgement at times. he's not one to play on the wing but he is capable of random runs into the box through the middle when we're camping outside the final third.

Holy cow!! This may sound a bit farfetched. But i was watching that restoration show Wheeler dealers ( dont judge me), but i could have sworn the conversation between the salesman and his mechanic (the two presenters) about their new project could be the same one Gazidis has with the fans.

Does this sound familiar?

The mechanic (fans) fisrt explains that to get this classic (old) car through an IVA test you have to get a modern/new engine that would cost alot of money. He asks him if he is ready to spend some money.

The salesman responds by saying no, he got he car on the cheap and whatever improvement that has to be done must be done on the cheap so "we can maximise the profit".

When i heard that i burst out laughing because i was thinking it before he said it. I am starting to think like Kroenke and the gang

let me get this straight: huntelaar would be a decent signing, not great. look at his career. good in the netherlands, failed at real madrid, failed at milan, average first season at schalke, then has been great. for 6m that has been quoted, it'd obviously be a steal but imo giroud would bench him.

still i'd be happy if we signed him. because we never sign anybody in january (well arshavin but other than that it has been quiet). we also need desperately a striker because gervinho is not one, podolski is not one and there's a chance theo might leave. chamakh is the only other proper striker and clearly wenger won't rely on him anymore. so huntelaar would fit in well. there are other strikers i'd be far happier to take but if we end up with huntelaar because he's "available" it'll be alright for me.

iceman

Believable4 Unbelievable6

Hunterlaar is a finisher. He's very rarely involved in build up play, and lacks pace. What are we good at going forward. Creating. What aren't we good at at the moment. Finishing. If the weekend is anything to go by, Hunterlaar would of only scored the two goals. Is he the best? No, but if the price being mentioned is there or there abouts. Then it's a no brainer. I'd take him all day long. Just a d.m l.b and g.k for competition for Shez then it's job done. For now.

When Van Persie left, a lot of people were saying how

he would struggle at United
he wouldn't adapt to their system
not many Arsenal players do well at other clubs
he will get injured
24 mil was a good price for a 29 year old injury prone player with a year left on his contract

Let's be honest, he has only gotten better...

It sucks watching him be so happy at United but that's what happens when the board ****s around with players and club ambitions.

I don't blame anyone for leaving this sinking ship, just the fact that he went to United and Nasri/Clichy went to City is a huge slap in the face.

Nick.

Believable9 Unbelievable2

I didnt doubt RVP's ability for one moment. The problem was we had only a season left on his contract & keeping him, meant the loss of £24m, plus his wages for a season when he wanted to be elsewhere. Bearing in mind the whole deal cost United approx £70m, only time will tell if he is worth it.

I don't think it matters what we think of the hierarchy at Arsenal that was with out doubt one of the single most ridiculous things this club has ever done.

To not go balls out to keep him and potentially hand the title to a rival on a plate is fricking disgraceful. No matter what the business plan that was selling us and a title chance down the river.

It makes me feel sick watching him score every time in that poxy red kit! I don't hate the guy, honestly, just wish he was still here. That and they're 15pts above us with one of their poorest squads. Does my nut.

If Arsenal never sold Cesc and Nasri when they did the club would have posted a huge loss this year so selling RvP was a must financially. I wouldn't go as far as to say Arsenal are a sinking ship, but Arsenal do need to spend a significant amount this summer and that will be difficult unless they keep selling players. Finishing outside the top four will be massively damaging for the club's finances, but it may be the wake-up call the board need.

We got 20m+ for him and was an excellent deal, lets hope he ends up in the lower leagues after that performance today!

Believable6 Unbelievable2

Nasri used to be one of my favorite players and after cesc left i really thought we would sign a new deal, step up and become one of the brightest stars in football. then he goes to city, has another average season but still wins something and suddenly he thinks he's the best. keeps going on about trophies with the arsenal supporters, what was the point in that? he's arrogant and disrespectful, another player bigger than the club. talent is still there but you can see he's lost all the effectiveness he used to have. he does nothing with the ball and plays only because city doesn't have a better player. that's why they tried to get hazard. nasri has always had the same problem, he's always in the shadows. here it was cesc and sometimes arshavin, at city it's silva. when someone actually expects something from him, he fails to take the chance. he used to say he has always finished second or lost the final and i can see why.

In todays current values, he is worth £30m. Imagine our midfield in a 4-4-2, as follows:

Wilshere, Fellaini, Abu Diaby & Cazorla.

Awesome, reminds me of the midfield of the 98 double winning team: Parlour, Vieira, Petit & Overmars.

it really makes me laugh how much stick we've had regarding the carzola dive. the funny thing is a lot of man u fans i know on have been proper ranting about carzola dive. anyway it's nice to have a bit of luck for a change.
jack looked brilliant to

Absolutely, Rooney, Gerrard & Bale dive, yet because they are British its ok!

If diving is cheating, then so is intentional fouling.
