Ok, the age thing is going but what was your first ever memory? not the first game your parents or others took you to or have told you since, but YOURS?

I do vaguely remember Charlie George's winner in 1971 (I was 5 and my Dad took me) , but my first proper game I remember going on my own was in 1977 ( I was 11) , and we beat Everton 1-0 with Richie Powling getting the winner.

My very first memory of watching any kind of top level football was on an old black and white tv in maybe 67-68 when I was at my grand parents, left there with my sister for baby sitting.

Had gone to bed and my grandad got me up to come down and watch, of all clubs, Leeds United in a cup game. No idea what cup, who won or the score.

First real memory of Arsenal was them signing Peter Marinello, thinking he was some flash Italian and watching Charlie score that cup final goal.

{Ed001's Note - I feel young again talking to you lot! My first memory was my grandad taking me to my first match, I can't remember who we played, but we lost and when I got back I wasn't allowed any tea because I must be a Jonah. My uncles were adamant it was my fault we lost and me nan had to sneak me food in the kitchen. She didn't mind if I was a Jonah as she was an Evertonian.}

The first game I ever watched live was at the Dell, Southampton against who, again I can't remember, I can remember Terry Paine, Big John McGrath, as he was known, and Eric Martin the goal keeper.

Even had the pleasure of seeing George Best and Bobby Charlton play at the Dell, 1969 I think, Grandad was a season ticket holder, lived in Eastleigh.

I bloody feel old ed so best Arsenal hurry up and win the league again!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - talking about people from before I was born there, so you are old!}

Charlie George is probably the first one that really left lasting impression but also writing to the club and asking for every players autograph in the hope they'd send them on a modern leather football without a lace in it :-) .
I got a lovely letter back thanking me for supporting Arsenal along with some nice memorabilia and every players autograph on scroll wrapped in a ribbon but no sign of the ball, I was gutted at the time as I was only about 9 and was despreate for for a plastic coated ball but looking back now someone somewhere went to a lot of effort to please a little kid.

My first introduction to football was the 1982 World Cup, watching the Brazil team, it got me hooked on the game . Great memories of players like Eder, Falcao, Socrates, what a team they had . I remember being gutted when Italy knocked them out due to Rossi's treble . Until that summer I had no interest in the game, later that year I got a hand me down Arsenal top from a cousin and that is how I came to love the Gunners.

To be honest Ed i have trouble remembering last week let alone 3 decades back! However amongst my earliest memories was the excitement when we signed Supermac, and i will never forget the 1979 FA Cup final, probably the greatest ever cup final from an Arsenal fan perspective. We had a neighbor who was a Manchester United fan, and when they scored each goal he came and banged on our window and goaded. needless to say when Alan Sunderland hit the magical winner our celebration outside our neighbours house pretty much replicated his!

In terms of my earliest footballing memory, probably the 2002 world cup in Japan/ South Korea when I was 7. Or maybe, Stuart Pearce giving me a signed Labbatt's Nottingham Forest shirt in Nottingham around 2000.
