What a week for Derby, champions league football doesn't get more satisfying than this!
Oh and Arsenal beat Bayern Munich too :-)

What more can I say about De bruyne. I took a lot of stick for backing him.

Sometimes on here if you rate a player who doesn't play at the emirates it doesn't go down well but football is a global game :)

That's blasphemy in my book Derby :-)

Derby,

You actually don't get it do you fella, there are literally dozens of players I'd love to see in an Arsenal shirt.

Lewandowski, Bale, Fekir, Pogba, Aguero, Silva, Muller, Messi, Saurez, Carvalho to name but a few but would rather talk about the quality here than cream my pants on a daily basis about other teams players.

Bless you fella and congrats on the come back against Sevilla :-)

I do get I just find it funny. People were waiting for him to flop and they didn't want him here. He will only get better.

As I posted above I'd ov taken krychowiak from sevilla all day long. Perfect for us mate. He was realisitic for sure.

Derby,

I wasn't waiting for De Bruyne to flop, he's a cracking player, the same as Krychowiak who I wouldn't have said no too either, even though it was his missed tackle, lunging in, that let De Bruyne in for cities winner. Lol. :-)

Steve

Bayern were firing, trust me . They tried and tried but we were so disciplined they had no answer, if we weren't they would have won by 2 or 3 goals with exactly the same stats, if they had then you would have said Bayern were on fire.

Maybe Red is correct and all we ever needed was a bloody good keeper and tinker with the formation and starting positions a bit and hey presto

Time will tell

BUT all be warned we can't afford amny more injuries or the strength of the squad will be exposed.

Banbury my opinion, but we will get another chance to see in two weeks.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 19:39:32
Bayern weren't to much different to how they were 2 seasons ago when they came us the real difference was us, organised and disciplined and a top top keeper and DM IMO those were the thingsthat decided the outcome not Bayerns performance.
Last time or was it the defeat to them at home previously that Kos went walk about trying to get a goal back and finished the tie there and then? Which ever there was no hint of that naivety last night from us.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 20:13:06
Your right gunner, no hint of naivety last night.

Bayern totally different team without robben. If he isn't fully fit this year theyl struggle to win it I think. Unkocks defences for fun. And at his age has kept his pace unlike any player i've seen.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 23:20:05
It seems to me when we are under serious pressure, we can pull out top draw performances. But when there's no pressure, we suffer badly from complacency. I hope the penny drops and we start to take every game as serious as that.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Oct 2015 12:30:39
You hit the nail on the head. Everytime the pressure is on we turn up. When we're expected to win, complacency seems to always creep in. Vs Bayern, Utd and City last year, I am convinced the quality is there, We just need to keep that same concentration wr showed in those games consistently throughout the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 16:57:56
Chelsea? Why even bother entertaining the champions league if that's all they can do, embarrassment to us serious contenders them even being in the competition :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - love it G62..

21 Oct 2015 17:50:52
Why even bother calling yourself a football club when you don't play any football?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 13:30:37
So what we do now with Ramsey surely out at least for everton, do we go with Theo on the right and Giroud up front, or stick with theo up front and put OX on the right?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

21 Oct 2015 17:09:37
Giroud starting for arsenal is a backwards step, why change something that's working, Walcott has something extra and can improve, giroud cant. Giroud is actually doing a great job at the moment. The ox now has 5 to 10 games to show us he's good enough, its up to him to take it, he now has his chance, like Walcott. The ox your time is now and wenger has to trust him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - for me steve giroud coming off the bench is his best worth to the team, thats why benzema or similar would have been a great buy last summer..

21 Oct 2015 17:57:08
I'd leave Theo and Olly where they are and like Steve says give the Ox a run, he's an easy lad to read and everything about him says he's lacking confidence big time and the only way he will get it is to play full games and get great support from Arsene team mates and fans, he's a diamond who just needs a bit help of to sparkle again.

As for buying a striker Ed maybe I'm wrong but Arsene has said recently Theo has proved him right not to buy in the summer so I'm not sure he is or ever was truly in the market, Arsene is a loyal manager who finds it difficult to just disgard players who've been with him a while (Arteta Flamini Rosicky even Diarby) i think playing Ospina in the champions league was also Arsene's way of keeping him involved and feeling a part of things as he felt bad about signing Cech ahead of him.

We obviously need more strength in depth to the squad but I'm not sure Arsene needs the heartache, like I say maybe I'm miss judging the situation and the man of course.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 18:52:02
Leave it as it is, bring Giroud off the bench, he will still score 20

Put Ox out on the right.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 18:02:05

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - only the new you steve.. :)

21 Oct 2015 19:33:47
The new Steve will be gone once the amnesia wears off. There must be a reason for the change!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im thinking 5 and the bonus 14,.. :)

21 Oct 2015 17:43:42
But hasn't giroud proved his worth to get picked from his last 2 performances? He has more goals than theo, right this season. Just a banter any how i would still go with what steve said, this is ox's chance to get a run of few games.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 20:16:56
Misty giroud would argue and for him he would have case. But for the team he at the moment has to do it for the team. He will get his chance in the future i'm sure but it goes gor everyone, you have to earn the right. Plus he's scoring still.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 20:28:17
Olly gives us great options a and is very if not more effective coming off the bench, Theo is still learning his trade needs the games plus his strengths and threat are currently more of a problem for the opposition and bring out the best in others than Ollys at the moment.
If Ox wasnt available against Everton for some reason I'd play Debuchy and push Belerin wide right rather than move Theo right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 20:58:16
If debucy wasn't struggling that would have been a great call. Next year maybe when jenkos back.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 22:30:20
But is Debuchy struggling in weakened side or struggling full stop? I'm not sure which really and until Jenks comes home there's always Chambers at a push, he's not as bad at fullback as people think if he's got cover in front of him, Chambers RB with Belerin RM? Worth a cheeky punt?

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Oct 2015 12:35:03
First things first, Giroud shouldn't be our first choice ST in ny opinion but.
Interesting stat
Giroud has more goals this season than Kane, Rooney, Costa and Benteke.
So you wonder, what's all the fuss about? Lol.

Great result last night that a few of us could see coming. don't uunderestimate the importance of the emergence of walcott or at least his menace. We were able to sit back, or forced back, and because of their pressing game exploit with pace from walcott sancez and bellarin the space they left. don't get me wrong with all their talent and they have some in abundance ( no firing 100% last night) we were a bit fortunate, but they have that weakness if you can manage to get the ball offthem without them stuffing you they press so high up the pitch, they are like sitting ducks with pace to counter at. We can get a result a bayern i'm sure, we can get the two more wins required. But as per arsenal, through varying reasons ( not all in anyway the ospina thing) we are playing catch up and that is arsenal. Could be top of the league after this weekend.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

21 Oct 2015 15:47:44
Who are you and what have you done with Steve? Haha.

Totally agree, our pace definitely hurt them, particularly Bellerin's run for the final goal. I don't think we were entirely forced back, I think some of it was us being wise and deciding to keep our shape as opposed to pressing. Walcott was good once again and could have had a goal if it weren't for a world class save.

It does make it all the more annoying when you see a performance like that yet we are the ones who are bottom of the table - completely our own doing (no disrespect to Olympiakos and Zagreb) .

Im still hear and i can see what is happening, we are in a vein of form and we have struck onto somethin, i have aways said i say what i see and at the moment i'm enjoying it, i can see we are progressing, but i can also see we are fallable and i'm a realist. I still think we have been left short by this club and i'm hoping that it doesn't bite us in the bum, at the moment we have to and are doing build momentum. We will in the future need more than momentum when the chips are down. don't worry buddy, if needed, i'm still hear. I know what i think and i know this is arsenal. Not the time for soapbox stuff at the moment, let's hope i'm wrong in my opinion and its not needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 17:05:47
Dont agree that they were not firing, they had 74% possession and could do what they wanted, great credit to us for keeping our shape and defending as a team superbly well. I don't see the result as fortunate.

Agree that offensively we had the pace to cause them problems which we did.

It was almost akin to a team parking the bus against us but normally those teams don't possess the attacking talent and pace we have. Thus you wouldn't call a team that played that way against us fortunate or that we weren't 100%, would you?

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 17:27:04
Red dog believe me they weren't firing at 100%. Their possession was in areas that didn't hurt 99% of the time, tika taka, bit like we are guilty of sometimes. Muller, levendoski, costa, vidal, tiago could kill us or anyone and they didn't, they fluffed their lines. I hope they do over there, but we will see soon enough. One of the reasons their possession was high as well because we kept giving it back to them and in another game that would be punished. The possession stats last night meant zip in some respects because the way they played exposed their weakness and we exploited it.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 17:46:39
The majority of that is my point Steve, you would be saying Wenger had been outsmarted by another manager of a lesser club because we had a mass of possession and with all our talent couldn't score.

You can't have it both ways mate, we played the game to beat them and nullified their obvious talent.

It's been done to us we did it to them. You make other valid points but you are being kind to them and harsh on us.

You win nothing in October, injuries already playing a part but we genuinely look like a bloody good team and won that game on merit. No other player Wenger may have brought in the summer would of made much difference to the outcome of that game bar the one purchase he did make who was stood between the posts. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 18:07:36
Red dog you are talking about one game ( last night) last night we beat bayern a month ago we lost to kiev. We aren't worse than kiev and we aren't better than bayern. But we are consistent in our inconsistency.

CTR nice summery further down that sums it up perfectly. I was really wondering where you were with your ballon popping pin and knew you would be lurking around somewhere waiting to pounce. The old pin must have lost its sharpness of late or it could be that our ballon is now made of neoprene or Kevlar.

Anyone noticed this, Owen Hargreves yesterday was repeating that Arsenal should press more and not allow time for Xabi Alonso, but Wenger later in the interview said pressing up high gave Arsenal the possession back a lot of times, but in the next phase if we lost the ball in the middle of the park we have conceded a lot of goals, that's why the players were instructed to maintain shape and press when the ball was in our half. worked yesterday.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Oct 2015 11:44:56
I posted yesterday, at first I thought we should be taking the game to BM, but we seemed to sit back and counter them on the break, once they lost possession to us.
We seemed to be playing the perfect 'away' game, even though we were the home side.
If we pushed higher, Alonso would have dictated the game and Costa would have slaughtered us, not to mention Muller and Lewandowski.
It's a results business, we won 2-0 so the tactic's were proved to be spot on.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 11:52:37
One minute Hargreaves said we should press high and that Ramsey ozil and Sanchez needed to stay up field as an out let and in the next breath he was saying that Ramsey should be back helping out bellerin to double up on Costa . Guys a moron and he is in love with Douglas Costa.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Oct 2015 12:04:03
Said it yesterday the guy is a joke along with Michael Owen, it wasn't until Wrighty pointed out at half time that I think the halfwit clicked onto it.

It worked perfectly, we didn't run ourselves into the ground and it was in fact them that tired.

More of the same at the Allianz with this time Walcott, Sanchez and Chamberlain for them to worry about.

I was wishing I'd watched the game in puncho-vision so I could have sparked Hargreaves out. ;-)

We have been doing that for some time 62, it's not something we've stumbled upon this week. The City game gave us the way ahead along with as we all know the introduction of Coquelin.

Complacency it what we've allowed to slip into certain games, exactly as City did, won 5 on the bounce and thought they then just had to turn up, two defeats later they are back on track.

We cannot underestimate how the team is evolving together with players like Coquelin, Bellerin, Monreal and even Cech just getting better and better.

Whilst we still remain at pretty much the beginning of the season we have already, as Banbury has mentioned more than once, fallen foul of now having no real bench. Defensively we are fine but game changers are out injured.

Wilshere, Welbeck, Rosicky and Ramsey can and would make a difference. Our best 11 on the pitch now leaves us with Giroud on the bench. Campbell has yet to convince me and where do we go then. Add to that how much of a problem is Sanchez's injury. No Welbeck to rotate.

Whilst it's great to see that Chamberlain may get a run on the right Ramsey will be a big miss, how many times have we seen him make saving tackles in our own box, he's everywhere. Something Chamberlain will have to ensure he does in tracking back to.

For me we are on a par or not far behind City with our starting 11 and we are the two stand out teams in the league.

It is now a case of nursing our way through to January, get a positive result in Munich and hang on to city in the league whilst hoping Ramsey is short term.

Whilst despairing at the Ospina decision I remain positive that this team under Wenger will just get better and that can only be good.

It's not often you say this about a full back, but hector bellerin showed us last night that he is going to be an absolute world-beater in a couple of years time, him and per were on another level last night, best I've seen either of them play.

Here's hoping we manage to keep Barcelona at bay with hector, lads got the makings to become the best right back in world football, need to do everything we can to keep him a ways down the road.

The experiences of Fabregas and Song should at least make him think twice and if we pay him the wages he can get elsewhere plus seriously contend for the big prizes over the next couple of seasons we stand a very good chance of keeping Hector Sanchez and all others who will be in big demand elsewhere.

21 Oct 2015 09:28:12
if we win nothing he will leave, if we win it all he will leave, its all part of the game, the idea is to keep him happy and win. eventually when he does decide to leave for the barcas or real madrids, we will have had a player we have utilized and there is nothing to wish him well at that point. players move, its business and life, no point thinking about it. let's enjoy these moments.

When the champions league draw was made I posted how pleased I was about getting Bayern and having to play them both home and away when both games mattered to both teams, I've never been much of one for bigging up 2nd leg wins for more than there worth against teams when the tie was all but decided by the first leg where we'd been blown away already.
I said I wanted to see how far we'd really come and last night I got the answer, a million miles compared to our also ran recent history in CL and PL terms.
Last night and the utd result/performance were not flukes or a good day at the office they well though out, disciplined and brilliantly delivered performance where we didn't just look pretty we were top top notch.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating we are once again a top side and premier league title contenders.

{Ed001's Note - but who has actually disappointed? Wilshere, but by virtue of injury, maybe. Other than that I am struggling to think of anyone who is not playing that well, now Sanchez has found his feet again.}
