Jackson Martinez anybody?

62 goals in 80 games for Porto.

21 already this season.

Reports say we have agreed a £30m fee for his services.

Would you?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

24 Feb 2015 00:10:00
Did u read it in the newspaper. They always put fee agreed then u read down it says we may pay the fee. Can't see this one dags too much for a guy 29 this year . I thought he would of been I Spain or Italy by now. Deserves a move though no doubt

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Feb 2015 00:30:04
So we have agreed Martinez and Schneiderlin? That is one of the fastest summer windows of all time. Wenger must be looking forward to a long break ;-))

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Feb 2015 00:35:38
He's not really my type dags, great footballer though!

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Feb 2015 08:55:42
He's 29?

Ooppss, didn't know that.

Pass on that one.

Just Schneiderlin than :-)

Special One :

Blues boss declares Arsenal "cry babies" and declares "it's a man's game, that's why I love English players" after a nasty tackle on Mikel Arteta by John Obi Mikel.

What's up Special one? Own medicine not so sweet?

I hated that tackle and the one on Matic - regardless of shirt

Can't stand the special one

Now he's moaning about Wenger again - classless

Believable2 Unbelievable0

23 Feb 2015 21:55:09
Managers are like politicians, they talk bull sheet. Jose is classless when he opens his mouth sometimes but he's got selective amnesia just like our manager. i'm afraid not many of them score highly on speaking fairly on things they sometimes see or don't see. They are all guilty of lying, (ooops did I call them liars)
when they are talking about their own clubs.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 22:49:14
A total bowel nugget.

Well done 337, you have ressurected Stoner's famous saying :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 22:09:33
If you are a talented capable individual who has won, clearly knows how to win and will no doubt win again, why would you want to become a figure of hate by blowing others candles out to make yours shine brighter.

He and that rancid club he works for continue to do themselves no favours whatsoever.

Agree0 Disagree1

24 Feb 2015 08:57:40
"Blow other candles out to make yours shine brighter".

Red, love it.

Gonna nick that one.

Love that phrase Dags, stoners still around so don't tell him I've nicked it

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 20:17:09
If I was Olly Giroud and I read some of the posts on here, I would probably pack my bags and head off back to France.

I could understand the negativity on here if he wasn't scoring, but he is scoring for fun at the moment, and still gets slated.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't, as they say.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

23 Feb 2015 21:08:19
If real madrid barca or beyern come calling with a 60mil wad this summer I will be the first to admit I was wrong Dags. Then we can buy a striker to win us the league.

Agree1 Disagree4

23 Feb 2015 21:20:45
Olly some how has ended up in the same boat as Aaron, for some the best they can bring themselves to do is be silent on the good days and point out their faults on a bad day, both have proved themselves far more than others who escape criticism by and large.
Its amazing how we all see things so differently

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 21:32:23
I knew that post would ruffle a few feathers lol.

I know he's not everybody's cup of tea, but the guy suits our style of play and is scoring goals.

People talk about Aguero, and I can see why, but Aguero plays with another striker, like Dzeko or Negredo (last season), there's no guarantee he will score goals for us because we play one up top.

Look at Balotelli. He scored goals at City, but he played upfront as a pair, same at Milan, but until recently, played upfront alone for Liverpool, and has 3 goals this season.

The grass is not always greener on the other side.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 21:36:19
Perhaps Olly should go on Twotter and say how he would rather retire than play for spuds or have a go at Mesut on tv, then they could do no wrong no matter what.

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Feb 2015 22:31:34
But I think giroud could play quite well with a partner and it would also give us another option he's quite similar to Dzeko I think, in style and quality and with a natural finisher feeding of his hold up andknock downs, ccould form quite a good partnership and would make up for the midfield not being able to finish moves off sometimes, not being natural finishers. Then you also have quality cover if either are injured as we have seen we lack a quality replacement when giroud is injured

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 22:52:01
Olly is a heckuva player and all that matters is that AW knows it, his teamates know it and that I know it. As for the haters, all they want to do is sell our players and buy everyone else players - that's just not the arsenal way, thanks god.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Feb 2015 20:12:52
giroud lol bale scored more goals than him from midfield. also kane is the top striker about as you found out youselves lol. enjoy watching us at our 2nd home on sunday WEMBLEY

Raver oh dear oh dear

Please do your homework before you come on here

Bale scored 42 goals in 146 games for Spuds ( sniggers )

His strike rate is worse that Girouds

You looked silly before your post

Believable4 Unbelievable0

23 Feb 2015 20:21:11
Have a heart Bambam.

They have Solda-dope and Adebaypants upfront.

Let them crow about Bale.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 20:33:38
Wembley is their 2nd home?

They haven't been in an FA Cup final for 24 years.

Raver, I'll have some of what you are smoking at the lane.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 20:55:47
We could compare ex players with raver all day, giroud is a striker bale isn't.

A fairer comparison is soldado 45 games and a very not so impressive 7 goals, not bad for 20 odd million.

Then there's the lazy one, he'll be happy picking up his 170k a week.

Harry kane is on form but we'll see how long that last, I remember most spurs fans was slating him a few months ago.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 19:24:58
Had no idea ocampos has left Monaco to join marsaille onloan. Really good player him. Wil be a loss for them. I'm a fan of there left back kurzawa I believe he'll go to big club this summer. I rate konogbia but I know many Dont. Mouthinho has been a excellent player and is without doubt better than Monaco. Hard to shift I guess duecto wages.

We have a good draw and we should go through

Steve just looking at Stats of the strikers you mentioned

Games per goals

Henry 1.65 games per goal
Wrighty 1.56 games per goal
RVP 2.11 games per goal
George doesn't feature due to not enough goals scored
McDonald 1.89 games per goal
Kanu same as George
Stapleton 278 games per goal
Wiltord same as Kanu and George
Anelka same as Kanu, George and Wiltord
Radford 3.23 games per goal

George scored 33 in 133 games
Wiltord scored 32 in 104 games
Kanu scored 30 in 119 games
Anelka scored 23 in 65 games

Giroud stands at a rate of 2.34 games per goal

Which really isn't bad looking at the other stats.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I really thought Stapleton had a much better strike rate than that!}

23 Feb 2015 19:32:57
How impressive are Wrighties firgues? To think he played when we were at our least attack minded too.
How many would he have scored in his prime with the invincibles or even in today's team.
Once chance one goal one nil to the Arsenal was so often the case in his hey day

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 20:05:44
Whoops

Obviously it is missing the . got spot ED lol

Still not as good as Giroud's

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - depends on where you put the ., if it is in front of the numbers then he has an amazing record!}

23 Feb 2015 20:07:01
62 you are correct though we have to remember in IW and TH we had two strikers who would walk into any team......................in the world, and I mean any team

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 20:08:27
So did I Ed.

Would be nice to know the stats for Alan Sunderland.

Him and Stapleton were lethal.

The original SAS.

Ive always said wrighty was the best striker we have ever had, but I still loved henry. We should have a statue with a gold tooth as well in my opinon.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

23 Feb 2015 18:35:17
Quaver, bale scored more goals for two reasons, one because your strikers then were so rubbish and two because he is a world class player, ( hence why he moved to a big club).

As for kane he is looking top class at the moment, but time will tell, you were very lucky yesterday half your fans had left before you equalised.

How's that league table looking? Familiar now is it?

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 18:35:35
You haven't mentioned the CL places yet,, and also that cup you are playing in ..........you know the one you don't know the name of.

Of course I will enjoy watching, of course you know after Sunday you will have just 6th and 7th place in the league to play for .

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 18:37:23
You'll find things have changed a little since you last visited you 2nd home, there's things called TV cameras every where and pathe news no longer exists. Oh how you will love the new balls without a lace, make sure you take in every moment and treasure it, just ask Oxford :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 19:09:19
Yes good luck in the Worthington mug or what ever its called. Do you think potch, will pick a strong side and leave the reserves out for the final and play kane. I would it your only real chance of glory, the reserve team trophy. Is it televised then and do the reserves win any money or a trophy for winning it then. Is it played after your prem game that day.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 19:13:39
Yes but Bale realised Thursday nights were made for spending time with his family and not struggling in the tin cup. Enjoy second place in your second home. ps i'm not Girouds biggest fan but compare his price tag to loldado.

You are still talking about a player who left you 2 years ago.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 11:18:18
There is a lot of people on here questioning Giroud. Saying he misses too many chances. Yes in the past he's been extremely wasteful but this season no one can question his goal scoring record.

He has 8 in 11 games and has scored this season away at Everton, away at Liverpool, away at Man City. Goals that has got us important points. Knowing you lot you will pick up how he missed a simple header against Stoke and saying how a top CF will bury that but completely forget how sanchez missed a open goal in the same match from 3 yards.

People will argue he will never score 25 goals a season. i agree with that, but Bergkamp never scored 25 goals a season and he was one our most influential player.

As long as he keeps getting important goals and assists which continues to get us points then i'm extremely happy he is in team. I rather have someone scoring 15-20 goals when most of those goals influence the games rather then have someone who scores 25-30 goals a season when they just add gloss to a 5-0 scoreline.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

23 Feb 2015 12:41:47
He wouldn't get in my top ten favourite arsenal strikers and he isn't in my top ten forwards in europe at moment. I've always said, good but not great, he just doesn't exite me. Hesxa smudger smith type striker not wrighty or henry. i'm just not a fan and don't see him lifting us to the next level.

Agree1 Disagree3

23 Feb 2015 12:51:59
I am glad he is with us. 35 goals in 70 PL starts makes him a top striker. He is no Aguero but he is a totally different kind of striker. He is fantastic at holding the ball up, has a wonderful touch, scores all kind of goals, creates goals, works hard and is deceptively quick. He is IMO in the top 3 in the premier league.I think he has already got 20+ in his second season and would have surpassed that this season if hadn't missed 3 months with injury. He still might! I think he is badly underrated by our fans and pundits alike.

Agree1 Disagree1

23 Feb 2015 13:03:44
for me giroud is not the problem. its the CDM.

having to rely on the team to defend as a unit, it keeps giroud just near the halfway line, and with lack of pace his options diminish very quickly on a counter.

he does hold up well but it can't be our only outlet.

if we have a reliable commanding CDM, we can leave 2-3 players uptop, say ozil, giroud and alexis and give the attacking team decisions about putting pressure on us at one end while contemplating a counter the other end.

palace, spurs and leicester did the same thing and they were well aware that they could catch giroud if need be.

with alexis lacking fitness, and ozil just recovering the counter is not working as perfectly as intended. but i think with the right CDM, we can alleviate pressure from defense and free some offensive options.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 13:34:13
We aren't a aguero level team though, we aren't aguero short of being a top class side we are probably 3-4 players off that. Giroud is a cracking player for us. He's the third best striker in the league and we are the third best team. I'm not saying I'm happy with third, but untill we start to genuinely challenge i'm happy with giroud

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 15:35:42
Steve, I am interested as to who you're top ten Arsenal strikers are in that case? Francis Jeffers always takes the top spot - that is a given.

Agree0 Disagree1

23 Feb 2015 17:19:01
It looks like Sanchez is capable of 20 plus goals a season, Walcott is capable of 20 plus goals a season, if Giroud can manage 25 then potentially we have have near to 70 goals from our front 3.

If we add a Ramsey of last season with two of Cazorla, Welbeck, Ozil and Wilshere getting into double figures we are not far off the 100 goal tally.

It is a possibility that could happen, a solid defence and it would make us serious contenders.

Will it happen, did we ever foresee Ozil and Sanchez in Arsenal shirts? Good things do happen and a team grows together.

In a minute it will be a case of who can make the bench not the 1st team.

In short we can win a title with Giroud, just as part of the team rather than RVP style in 2012, the only question is would we swap him for Costa, Aguero, Lewandowski, Saurez, Higuian or Benzema and in the vast majority of cases people will say yes.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Feb 2015 17:30:31
Bergkamp was in the 442days. Would he survive now in our formation as the main striker. I doubt it. Bergkamp was more than twice the player giroud was

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - wouldn't Bergkamp just play as an attacking midfielder these days?}

23 Feb 2015 18:15:54
Tpg henry wrighty rvp george mc donald kanu stapleton wiltord anelka radford, i haven't included bergy or sancez although i could but i don't see these as out and out strikers in the sense. All of the above are way better footballers and strikers and i enjoyed watching. Look forward to you picking spots off my choices.

Agree0 Disagree2

23 Feb 2015 21:37:34
Don't do nit picking Stevo, just say it how it is and giroud is better than those two by any argument, goals per game, work rate and assists, plus better looking. I could have got all statistical with you and named another three with worse statistics but couldn't be bothered.

And just to clarify I'm not girouds biggest fan, but he's an arsenal player and as long as he gives his all I'm behind him!
