No rumours this time of year
So a little question for anyone that still reads this site :
Which of the youth players in our current crop could or will start making an impact on the first team this season?

My opinions are: most likely, zelalem, akpom, eisfeild, gnabry and Bellerin
With players like jack jebb, Isaac hadyen, Jon toral, dejan iliev, Dan Crowley and Julio pleguzuleo all eventually making a break through over the next two seasons as players like sagna arteta podolski and rosicky fade into retirement

jas

1.) So podolski wil be 30 and your talking about his retirement at the peak of his career

2.) Zelalem is unreal for his age, gnabry is also good and I think would be getting the same praise if he was 16 too. Crowley will be a few years away still, isn't he 15?

For me them 3 are the best prospects and Akpom deserves a mention with the pre season he had.

3.) Zelalem, Gnarby Apkom will get starts this season - Carling Cup - that is for sure and if all 3 continue with their development each will be regulars, within 3 seasons. Zelalem is the one that has me most excited however, the boy can see a pass and more importantly, make it

4.) I've not been impressed with Zelalem or Gnabry when I've seen them play, yes I'm aware they are still pups, I bet you all that they'll end up playing at some lower league club somewhere across Europe by the time they are 23.

I reckon diaby will go if he doesn't make a serious impact when he is fit
Arteta and Rosicky are approaching the twighlights of their careers
Which in turn means that we will only have wilshere Ramsey as definite starters so the probability of another cm coming in next summer is highly likely in my opinion

I think we need 6 players to challenge
And I don't mean stars I mean good players; arteta types
A centre half; Richards can cover both there and rb
A centre half; Williams
A central midfielder; I'd be happy with cabaye
An attacking midfielder; michu
A wide midfielder; griezmann superb runner and striker of the ball with his left foot
A striker; ylimaz is big and strong with a good finish on him aswell
Then if there's time add a gk
Arsenal need to wrap up a deal every two days for us to be contending again
So J F D I

jas

1.) Challenge for what. Largest squad and payroll with no world class players?

Of those player none are really a step up from what we have (I've not seen Griezmann - he may be). Would any of those be one of the first names on the team sheet? No.

We'd challenge for little (maybe Carling/FA cup) with 6 more good but not great players. Have you seen the Man City squad!

2.) Yilmaz is very similar to Giroud. Can't see wenger going for him.

Read an article about Aaron Ramsey on another website
And it has had me wondering what my fellow gooners believed
1: does Aaron Ramsey have the qualities to be in the arsenal team
And 2: would you prefer a partnership of two midfielders in the holding role or just one player

My opinion is that ramseys sheer determination' drive and engine warrant his place in the starting line up
And that he has created a good understanding with arteta so we should be playing with two cdm's and not just one lump in their place.

What do you reckon gooners and goonettes

jas

1.) Ramsey has been our best player this preseason

He ran our show this Emirates cup

By the end of the year, he will command a price tag over 20mil, just you watch

2.) If you were lucky enought to go to the emirates cup Saturday, you saw a midfield duo of Wilshere and Ramsey swapped to Arteta Ramsey at Half time and the thing that struck me most first half was the lack of midfield. Jack and Ramsey both wonder and left a massive void allowing Napoli to run straight at the defence, it was only when Arteta came on and literally didn't move from the middle of the park that solves the problem.

In theory I would love a duo of Wilshere and Ramsey but in reality neither have the positional discipline to compliment one another. If Cazorla played LW a midfield or Ramsey Wilshere and Arteta could work very well but a midfield of Wilshere Ramsey would simply not be defensively sound enough.

One thing to note Ramsey's long ball game was bang on point almost Alonso like. It's a hard call who to leave out, out if Wilshere, Ramsey but at present Arteta has to start unless we sign a DM but then its hard to drop Arteta aswell considering his stats last year
Dandan

3.) Ramsey definitely deserves a starting place; he has more than engine, he has great touch, decent vision and just needs to add shooting. He looks to me that he has suffered from confidence issues and overcoaching, but that seems to have been sorted out. Arsenal need to sort out wtf they want from midfield, as the 4-3-3 is killing creativity. Ramsey should have a box to box role regardless of formation. I think I said elsewhere here I see him as Khedeira type player. Maybe Parlour role in a 4-4-2?

4.) Determination and drive don't warrant you a place in the team. Just because you work hard does not mean you have the ability to start in a side.
You're right though, he does give 100% and shows brief spells of class.
That said, after an ideal transfer market, he would not start in our first team in my opinion.
I prefer just one holding midfielder as it would allow both Jack and Santi free reign to work their magic. They are both guaranteed starters when fit.
Unfortunately, if a quality holding mid is not signed then I think really Ramsey has to start, nobody else in the midfield has an engine like he does. It would mean Jack would have to play more defensive, or Santi would have to play on the wing which is not ideal.
Ramsey is a quality squad player that can do a job on the pitch when needed. I however, am not convinced he should be a starter for Arsenal Football Club.
