Hi Ed... Any interest from aw on mavuba as dm? Mvila seems to be not in question any more... {Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

Eds, with djourou leaving on loan, Squillaci unlikely to play again and talk of miquel leaving on loan, is there signals that arsenal are looking to strengthen in that area, yanga mbiwa? Especially after koscielnys red card on Sunday and are congested fixture list. In my opinion we need an animal at the back who's strong powerful and athletic.

Believable36 Unbelievable8

They are trying to get the wages down that's the reason for player clear outs, and possible players in.
Arsenal are carrying to many players on big bucks, who don't really play.

Agree. Badstuber, hummels and subotic. Any of them.

Absolutely, we need a 4th center back urgently, a right sided one that is commanding, good in the air & tall. Please tell me Wenger knows what he is doing!

Have arsenal made any bid for lopez.
Or talked to the club about him.
Or is it just paper talk.
Thsnks.
Steve. {Ed002's Note - You need to try the search function, but I understand that there has been a direct approach from Arsenal to Atletico Madrid about the player but I do not know if that has yet resulted in a firm offer - but it is likely just to be a matter time before one is made. Adrian Lopez is of serious interest to Arsenal and he remains one player that could make the move in January. Spurs showed interest in the player during the summer but their bid was rejected. Whilst Atletico are looking to hang on to Lopez and are looking to have him agree a new contract they are aware that a move away is likely and are actively looking for a replacement - as they are for Falcao who they also expect to move for in the summer.}

In all honesty fellow gunners do you honestly feel Adrian Lopez will be the solution to our problem? can he really bag 20+ a season if he was signed?

SpicyGunner

Believable15 Unbelievable31

No I don't think so

Agree1 Disagree0

Not judging by his goal tally in La Liga so far - but someone is assisting Falcao for all those goals right? Hopefully he's got something to do with it.....although Falcao can make something out of nothing!

drumsofdotl

Agree0 Disagree0

Adrian lopez, 16 games 2 goals 0 assists 15 shots. i think he would struggle in the prem with our rough play lol. poor record on them stats. chamack?

Agree0 Disagree0

Pablo Osvaldo can bag 20+

Agree0 Disagree0

We're not gonna get someone who can score 20+ goals in January. That's for the summer, we need someone who can help giroud get more goals. This adrian lopez guy is on bad form but he did very well last season, 19 goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's definitely not in form, but style-wise, he's a natural finisher that plays the number 10 role more often than not. Last time Wenger tried to make a number 10 into a lone striker, it reesulted in the prolific RvP... yes people even doubted his ability to play the lone striker role.

I don't think Adrian will hit the ground running ad solve all our problems, so as a January signing it'll be a little ineffective, but he will add a new dimension in terms of his style. Giroud, Theo and Podolski have three different styles, Adrian would add a fourth... if we still have trouble scoring then something else is seriously wrong!

Hey Eds, loving the site and have to admit I think i'm addicted to checking every minute for a new post. Just wanted your opinion on whether you think Walcott stalling is holding the club back from a striker signing. {Ed002's Note - I expect Walcott to sign.}

Personally i think Arsene Wengers idea of spending big is 5 million, a bag of haribo if negotiations get tough!

Would take him for 3 mil no doubt. the question is how much does he want to earn? he would only be squad player with us

I think Wenger will go for Mbwia or Wanyama (Both can play at CB and CDM) and an expensive top player...AM/CF maybe someone like Snejider/Muller/Reus/Gotze but probably a player like Adrian or Willian

Believable14 Unbelievable31

Dream on.....well off the mark...

Agree2 Disagree0

You're confusing what he should do - with what he will do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would Müller leave Bayern or Götze/Reus leave BVB? Reus only signed at the beginning of this season and both he and Reus are having the times of their life at Dortmund...
Müller has had a very successful start to his season at Bayern too, who look well on their way to the title this season...

Great work ed02.
Ed as wenger has said he will spend big and sign two players.
Ed please tell me what you suspect which two players will be signed?thanks {Ed002's Note - I'll stick with what I said previously.}

Theo and a keeper....bad luck

A lot of talks in a recent interview that says that we will be buying two quality players in this transfer window by wenger himself who also said that we are now in a financial position where we can start competing for the best players again which we have not been able to do in recent years due to the debt of the emirates.

Mr Wenger is quoted as saying on al jazera that he wants to sign two world class players and money no object

What it really reads is he will sign 1 player !

Ed...whatever happed to Matias Suarez, the Argeninian playing in Belgium. Was strongly linked with Arsenal last year before a transfer to CSKA Moscow that eventually fell through. He was very well regarded at that time...is he still available?

Miami Gooner {Ed002's Note - Liverpool along with Bayern Munich, PSG, Zenit, Arsenal, Newscastle, Lazio and Juventus have shown an interest in Matias Suarez in the distant past but there seems to only be interest from Napoli and, as ever, CSKA Moscow right now. Suarez rejected approaches from CSKA Moscow and Galatasaray in the summer. However, CSKA returned with a further bid and they believed the deal was done before Suarez failed his medical. So for now he remains slightly in limbo. For a move to England he will need a work permit and not playing for the national team is a major issue against it happening. Claiming on an exception basis will also be difficult for someone of his age. His other option would be to seek a Belgian passport and stay a while longer there. Otherwise, he can move freely to other European countries.}

the 'rumours' of last year are just that. story led by fake "itk" javier perez... he fooled jamie dalton on twitter as well as philippe auclair who vouched for him until he realised he was being hoaxed.

perez said that both lewis holtby and matias suarez had "pre-agreements" with the club... which he then said [when realising he'd been caught out] had fallen through. {Ed002's Note - I thought I dealt with all of that nonsense in the summer for you?}

In an interview with Al Jazeerah which will be shown on talk sport, wenger has said he in the market for 2 players and he will spend big, but who? Arsenal are linked with diame who is 3.5million and Milito who is 33? 3 weeks into the tramsfer windown and I still don't know why wenger has not signed anyone yet.

Rumours are arsenal are pursuing Valbuena and Capoue from Toulouse along with Adrian Lopez ( Which looks like the more likely as interest has been in lopez for a while now)

He said the exact same things in December. Means nothing.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's why I said "believe it when I see it..........."

Goonerman

Agree1 Disagree0

It's actually 15 million and a caramello!

Agree0 Disagree0

One of them will be Walcott, so only one new player.
Best thing will be to finish outside top 4 and see what the board are prepared to do. Then we will true direction of the club.........gulp.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't really care how much he spends, if we get a player for 8M and he's a good addition to the squad then so be it. But realistically we are looking at players in the 10-15M pound bracket to assist or add quality to the likes of Walcott, Cazorla, Arteta, Wilshere and Chamberlain..

Agree2 Disagree0

Have I missed something, is 15m not big?

Agree0 Disagree0

15m really isnt all that big for footballers these days when teams like man city, man utd and chelsea are prepared to spend over double that to land players without even thinking about it

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep you have, 15m is not a big buy these days,

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jan 2013 19:17:29
The 30-50m transfers are by far and away exceptions to the rule. Depending on the terms of a players contract and the financial state of the selling club the bulk of transfers, even for world class players is between 15-25m.

Agree0 Disagree0

The 2 new players will be Theo Walcott (new contract) and Diaby (return from injury). They are both like new signings!

hi ed arsene quoted as saying on al jazera that he wants to sign two world class players and money no object then why are we linked to diame just an idea eds but could we have a poll on the website and decide as a group which two world class players we need and send a pitition to arsene because its starting to look pretty bleak my choice would be wanyama and lewandowski

Believable15 Unbelievable8

He gave that interview back in December and things change quickly. Still in doubt anything will happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger promises the earth & comes up with zilch. So far in the window, Walcott hasnt signed, two first team players signed, a futile attempt to sign a 31 year old Villa from Barca & nothing else. We only have 1 keeper, 3 centre backs, no true left backs & no defensive midfield players.

when theo signs a new deal we should sell him in the summer lets be honest he's not going to be anywere as good as henry he's 23 inconsistent and ok player at best i think the board kno it makes sense to give him the deal and then sell him for around 15mil

Believable29 Unbelievable20

Like the majority of our squad, Walcott is just average and is not able to produce the goods against top sides. We looked a very poor side against Man City even taking account of the fact we had 10 players. Not one of our defenders this season has played anywhere near their best and Cazorla, Wilshere and Arteta have been carrying the team and now look shattered. Up front, apart from Walcott, Gervinho is dreadful, Podolski is a shadow of the player he was and only Giroud looks as though he could grab a few goals. Wenger has bought far too many average players to replace our world class players with the inevitable outcome - we are going backwards at an alarming rate. It will be interesting to see how many fans turn out tomorrow night - I think we might see a lot of red seats instead of red shirts. Not sure who is to blame but I think that it is pretty clear that the fans are not a priority (until they start staying at home).

Agree1 Disagree0

Just shows how much you know, Henry didn, t start playing up front until he was 24 - Doughnut

Agree3 Disagree0

He was converted in to a striker at 23

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not an arsenal supporter but wenger did come out and say when doing a you turn on the ultimatum he gave wallycott that he was the same age as henry when he moved him in from the wings i won't be childish and call you a doughnut as i couldnt care less how old he or henry was, were, is. All i will say the rest of the prem hopes he signs for you again as he is crap at BEST

Hi eds, just wondered if there was any interest in Maxime Gonalons?

He seems to be one of the reasons that Lyon are doing so well this year - probably why he wouldn't move in January!

Sally {Ed002's Note - On a number of occasions Frederic Guerra has said that Gonalons would only leave Lyon for Real or Napoli. He has taken over as captain so a January move is most unlikely.}

Great work eds.
Ed do you know whether arsenal has made enquiry about any player till this time.
Wajid {Ed002's Note - Arsenal have an interest in a striker still and have certainly looked at Adrian Lopez, Lewandowski, Negredo, Shakhtar Donetsk's Adriano (as a cheaper option to Damiao). There has also been interest shown in Udinese's right back Dusan Basta. In midfield I think the club made a mistake not pushing ahead with the purchase of Wanyama in the summer but Benat and the more flexible Mbiwa have been looked at recently. There has also been a little interest in the likes of Markovic, Lars Bender, Konoplyanka and Hatem Ben Arfa but I cannot see anything coming to fruition there and it is likely more wishful thinking than anything serious. It is hard to see what interest remains in the likes of Llorente, Dragovic and Wanyama who were all previously of interest - although it is still possible the club will go back to M'Vila - but they will need to be quick. I understand that there was interest in Holtby but Spurs made their move. A very slim chance of Zaha if a deal for Walcott cannot be achieved.}

Mate Diame will definitely improve the squad

Agree3 Disagree0

Wenger has been an ambarrassment for ages. we will sign this exceptional player and i did not see it......... did he not say a couple of weeks ago we need a couple of players and he took a gamble with Diaby and just think if we lose to Swansea, CFC and Muchen there is no way Theo will sign

MB

Agree1 Disagree2

Diame is a beast

Agree2 Disagree1

Wake up dicky

Our club has a huge wage bill and an ordinary squad. It is embarrassing mate. Get off your high horse. Stubborn pride will send this club to liverpool territory.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not quite sure he is the 'exceptional talent' wenger is always preaching about!

Agree0 Disagree0

Is he any worse than Song who is warming Barca's bench at a cost of 16m? Would M'Vila be any better?

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you for real diame has been 1 of best cdm in league for last 2 seasons i would love too see him in an arsenal shirt jus a pity he be injured

Agree1 Disagree0

Diames class, look at west hams record since he's been injured. Probably won't get in the first team but when we want to see out a game or if we have injuries he is the perfect player to come in.

Agree0 Disagree0

He`s def worth a try. strong, quick feet, trickery...reminds me of dembele

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep, you utterly embarrassed yourself.

Agree0 Disagree0

Whilst i think AWs time is nearly up.. supporting the gooners is NEVER embarassing {Ed035's Note - well said

Agree1 Disagree0

Premier League club linked with established Premier League player = laughing stock?

Agree1 Disagree0

You are wrong mate.. When he picks from players like them I am sure you have no idea what kind of players they are.. If you support a ckub support them not just at their good times but also bad times.. Wenger knows what he is doing and if you don't think so go support some oilgarchy clubs who tries to win by putting rubbish loads of money.. But I bet after 2-3 years Arsenal will show what their strength is.. Just give them some time..

Agree0 Disagree0

Morons like you are an embarrassment to arsenal fans. if we pay 30m for a player that makes him world class? Diame is a good player and yes he may not be a superstar but he can definatly improve the squad. look at antonio valencia? mauro zarate was a nobody yet after lazio some fans want him? until a player gets an opportunity for a big club it is impossible to say wether they are world class

JoshA

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats wrong with Diame?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Diame is just the type of player we need, in terms of physical stature and ability, he's a talented footballer and drives box to box, for 3.5M it could be very good business, we don't always need to sign a high profile name.

Agree0 Disagree0

OP did two things wrong.

1: Looked at the price of the player [Buy out clause mate]

2: Looked at the club he's coming from.

personic move... Very much so.

Diame is a beast of a CDM with the physicality of Yaya and the mental knowledge and prowess of Vieira without the baggage and attitude of M'Vila...

if AW buys him he sell diame for 15 million after 1-2 seasons

indian gunner

Agree1 Disagree1

Diame is too much like Diaby in every way.
That's the problem.

D

Agree0 Disagree0

Daime certainly would improve our team but only on the players we already have with competition, clearly we have quality in the middle of the park but we don't have the strength and discipline to to protect our back 4. at the price he is its worth it but right now we are crying out for a DM, he like arteta and diaby just aren't that kind of midifelder.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsenal is a laughing stock - but diame but 3.5m?! dats an ultra bargin lus exactly what we need

Agree0 Disagree0

Diame is a top player and would fill in the song or diaby roll very well, i was at the man city game and diaby played shocking we need a replacement for him

Agree0 Disagree0

What has happened to our so-called youth policy, where is the trust and faith in players like Coquelin, Frimpong, Eisfeld Gnabry.
We all want M'villa but is not Coquelin up to the job, I think he is but Wenger will not trust him

Agree0 Disagree0

West Ham's dip in form has correlated closely with his injury. He is physical and I think has more successful tackles per game derspite not being a pure DM.

Would love him at the club.

Diame is a tank, price isn't everything just look at Torres, 50 million and I wouldn't take him on at arsenal for nothing!

Agree0 Disagree0

Diame is a quality player, he would improve ANY team.

In order of preference, the DM brought in to play next to Jack should be either:
Sissoko
Wanyama
Diame
M'Vila

All affordable.

"Sam allardyce has said there is no intrest from arsenal, Paper talk."

No, Sam is talking rubbish. Simple.

Agree0 Disagree0

All the people on here asking 'when was the last time Arsenal signed a world class player?'
Well you have to ask yourself what constitutes a 'world class player.' Is it somebody that costs a lot, because Torres cost Chelsea a lot, Song cost Barce a lot he has recently been rated worst La Liga signing of the year. So if we have to spend a lot of money on sh*t players, to sign world class, some people will be disappointed.
So shouldn't 'world class' involve how good players are. If so the last player we signed who was world class, would have been Cazorla, who has played for Spain and Podolski who has played for Germany.
So clearly we sign world class players, they may not be expensive, but they have talent, and they have featured for good national teams. The problem is unlike other teams who sign world class players, is we only sign a new one after we have sold one.
