Tweet from French journo Matt Spiro......'Wenger very keen on Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa. Montpellier won't stand in their captain's way. Good chance of transfer happening'

What position/positions

Agree0 Disagree0

How much is he ed?
1732 {Ed002's Note - Montpellier will likely look for about 8M euros but there will be interest from Newcastle and elsewhere.}

Agree0 Disagree0

CB but can cover in many positions

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone got any info on this player? Postion, etc. I am not familar with him at all, thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the poster asking for info:

He's 22, stands about 6'1 he's a powerful centreback in the mould of mahamadou sakho, whom he's been compared to a lot in the French media, as the ed said, new castle are keen on him too, but they're also keen on Vertonghen, doesn't mean they'll get him!

He's become a staple in montpellier but if you believe the media we're literally raiding them for Giroud, belhanda and the above!

Agree0 Disagree0

Newcastle are currently buying great stock. Would it be unwise to follow cisse and ba and ben arfa and cabaye ? I think Mbiwa would excel at newcastle, surrounded by players who have quality similar to his own. And im an Arsenal fan.

Agree0 Disagree0

What other positions can he play besides centreback? (which I assume is his best position)

Sydney Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty sure he can play all across the back four, seems like a good option for versatility but not sure about quality compared to verthongen. Wouldn't mind both!

Agree0 Disagree0

I would personally take him over Vertoghen. Has more pace, powerful, very versitile.

He is somewhere in between sagna and Sahko as a player. A true Lillian Thuram.

'Forbes Magazine:

Manchester United continue to top the Forbes list as the most valuable football club in the world but Real Madrid are gaining ground.
United are also ranked as the most valuable team in any sport, worth $2.24 billion (£1.4bn), $385m more than baseball's New York Yankees and the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.
Arsenal are fourth on the list, worth $1.29bn (£800m), behind Real Madrid (£1.6bn) and Barcelona (£816m) but just ahead of Bayern Munich (£766m).
The Forbes list ranks Chelsea in seventh place, worth £474m, and Liverpool eighth with a value of £386m.
United's huge global fan base, estimated by Forbes to number 330 million, has helped maintain the club's position at the top. However both Real Madrid and Barcelona have higher revenues than United, due in large part to the fact they have negotiated their own individual television rights deals for Spanish football.
The figures are also based on last year's financial results reflecting United getting to the Champions League final.
This season Sir Alex Ferguson's side failed to make the knockout stage and their income from European football is expected to suffer a corresponding drop, especially in relation to Real Madrid and Barcelona who are both in the Champions League semi-finals.
Tottenham are 11th on the list, valued at £351m, and Manchester City 13th, worth £276m.

This looks good

Good for who dear? Not good for a single person who actually gives a sh!t about on-field success that's for sure. Our finances, in light of how rich we are, are a total disgrace.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are fourth as we charge so blood much for tickets!!

and never spend!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Important to understand that this is the value of the clubs rather than revenue or profit wise and so therefore has no reflection on the relative spending power of each club. Arsenal run at roughly break even level excluding profit on transfers and will continue to do so until 2014 when new sponsorship deals will see our profits balloon by up to 40m

Forbes have today announced that Arsenal ($1.29 billion) have been rated the 4th richest football club in the world. Only behind Manchester United ($2.24 billion), Real Madrid ($1.88 billion) and Barcelona($1.31 billion).

They have also rated Alisher Usamanov (Arsenal shareholder) as the richest businessman in Russia (worth $18 billion).

However the thing is, if we spent like any of the three above you, Arsenal wouldn't be the 4th richest club.
Still significantly behind in terms of revenue/income generated.

Man Utd's comes from sustained success and making all the right moves at the right times (in terms of commercial decisions).
The Spanish teams mainly due to the insane tv deals they get, which in turn continues to give them both success along with their history/projects.

Hmmmmm..

At the end of the day those three clubs deal in BIG- big wages, wig players, big moves, big success, big value. Big clubs take big risks on big players. We don't. We're just pretenders. When will Arsenal FC start acting like a big club and sign big players, take big risks, win big tournaments and secure massive commercial revenue streams? A club's worth directly corresponds to on-field success and we have none to speak of in the last 7 years. Man U can afford to pay some players 100k per week to literally not even make the squad regularly, yet we can't. I f***ing hate everything to do with money when it comes to our club. We have the newest stadium in Europe and what for?

Agree0 Disagree0

Man city is also rich dude

Were would a neutral player chose to play if
they had the following teams chasing them and in what order:
Barcelona
Real Madrid
Juve
Inter and AC milan
Munich
Dortmund
PSG
Arsenal
Man U
City
Chelsea
Liverpool
And the rich russian club

Regretably I put us at around 6-8th

Believable5 Unbelievable14

Top 5 in my opinion

1: Barcelona
2: Bayern Munich
3: Real Madrid
4: Man Utd
5: Chelsea

Your post highlights our transfer market weakness. We might be a better team than chelsea, and play better football, but their willigness to spend money on top players, makes top players want to join them.
I'd put Liverpool at the bottom of that list by the way.

Agree0 Disagree0

Tough one.

Madrid (more opportunity than at Barca)
Barca
Man U
Bayern
Inter
AC
Chelsea
Arsenal
City
Dortmund
PSG
Anzhi
Liverpool

That's my order anyway. And if Dortmund win the league next season then you can guarantee they'd leapfrog us no problem. 3 years on the bounce, 3 years of champs league. They're a club on the rise.

Agree0 Disagree0

You cant put city below us. Tevez, Aguero, Nasri, Silva, yaya toure, kompany, maybe even richards/haart, would all walk into our first team. When did we buy a player as good as Aguero!
As for dortmund, spot on. The atmosphere at their stadium is enough for them to attract players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Real Madrid
Barcelona
Manchester United/ City (City with massive wage packages)
Bayern Munich
AC Milan
Chelsea
Arsenal
Inter Milan
Dortmund
PSG
Anzhi
Liverpool

Gilo

Agree0 Disagree0

I didn't put city below us my origial list is not in order only done in of teams within that country my list would be.
Barca
Real
Man U
Ac Milan
Chelsea
City
Arsenal
Inter
Bayern
Liverpool (if in CL)
PSG
Dortmund
Anzhi

But also think it would depend on age and at what stage there at in there career. If young then Arsenal would come high on the list as Wenger is not afraid to use them

Agree0 Disagree0

1. Barca 2. Bayern 3.dortmund 4. Arsenal 5. Madrid 6. Chelsea 7. Man u. 8 man city 9. AC 10. Inter. 11. Anhzi 12. Liverpool 13. PSG

Would Kalou be a good addition to the club?
He can join on a free this summer, but I don't like the thought of Arsenal signing players that can't get in to the Chelsea first team.

I don't even value him, he just isn't that good on the ball and basically just scores easy tap-ins.

I saw him in the Barca game, didn't like him at all.

Belgian Gooner 85

Believable14 Unbelievable20

I be really angry if we sigh him hes not good enough for chelsea so hes no where good enough for arsenal would not get in the first team

Agree0 Disagree0

Kalou, like Walcott wants to play striker, but is played on the right or left Wing, he's had some good games recently and Chelsea are determined to get him to sign a new deal.

Who knows, made Into a forwar, maybe he could be the new Henry?

I doubt it, but you never know!

D

Agree0 Disagree0

No transfer fee yet he would still expect a high wage as well as a signing on fee for a player who his current club do not think he is good enough.
awful player and is the type of player our club has been stiffled with over the last few years and just not the level we need to kick on.
plus also could be away at next years ACN so all in all it would be a horrible signing, truly horrible.

Agree0 Disagree0

I will lose the plot if we sign Kalou, awful player no where near top club standard!

W12Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

For me Kalou is Chelsea's Gervinho, looks like a decent player, fast, has a few tricks, but in actual fact is complete pony and not worth the boots on his feet. I really hope this doesn't happen. I laugh at Man City for taking our cast offs, cant handle Chelsea laughing at us for doing the same.

Coity Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Clichy and nasri would get into our team straight away, they arent cast-offs. Kalou doesnt have pace and he doesnt have tricks, he would be a chelsea cast-off, for sure. We dont need him.

Agree0 Disagree0

We already have Theo, Ox, Gerv, Rosicky - Soon to be joined by Podolski...we don't need him, would rather pay the a small and sign Yossi!
