Wozza Again

Arsenal are NOT interested in Mertasacker. I repeat. Arsenal are 'NOT' interested in Mertasacker! He has had a poor season with Werder Bremen and has admitted so himself to Sky Sports News if anyone has read the report. Half of you haven't even seen him play this season but yet are wishing for Wenger to bring him in. Just because he is mighty tall doesn't mean he is the solution to Arsenal's shaky defence. Believe me Mertasacker is not the answer. If you're going to pray for any reports linking a centre back to Arsenal to come true then pray for the Gary Cahill rumour. Still not going to happen as every valuation of quality Englishman in the UK is inflated sky high by the media thus out of Wenger's 'desired' budget. I say desired as Arsenal do actually have the finances to purchase these high profile players, but just are reluctant to do so. Accused of 'not moving with the times' by many. As mentioned in my previous post a couple days ago which many people agreed with. . . .as much as the fans and the media and all the other spectators believe Arsenal need a centre back, Wenger doesn't! he has Vermaelen, Djourou and Konscielny who are all established first team players. big named centre backs being linked are not going to want to sit on the bench and Wenger isn't going to want to move any of the 3 just mentioned onto the bench. Squillachi isn't great but is fine with being a back up player. I also expect to see appearances from Miguel or Kyle Bartley next season also.

Edd do you think arsenal will sign kevin gamerio hes being linked by the french press? and if so how good is he? {Ed001's Note - I don't know how good he is, but he is being linked with all and sundry, so I doubt very much he will be joining Arsenal. It is very rare Arsene signs a player that is being touted in the media.}

IMO these are the players who might possibly leave this summer, listed in order from most likely to leave (Almunia) to least likely (Diaby). Obviously I don't think all of these players will leave though - probably just three or four.

Almunia, Denilson, Fabregas, Clichy, Bendtner, Rosicky, Vela, Squillaci, Diaby

I can't really see anyone leaving who is not in this list, apart from perhaps some youth/ reserve players.

In addition, if we were to sign an experienced keeper to compete with Szczesny, then Fabianski would also be very likely to leave, as he's too good to be third choice really. If we do not sign a new keeper then he would almost certainly stay.

Mertasacker is way over rated though? Why would wenger sign a C.B when we have 3 class 1s and squillaci? He won't squillaci cos its his 1st season so expect NOOO C.B.
Verm, J.D and Kos are good enough. We need to sign a defensive coach or no.2!

@ Werder has contacted Arsenal about Mertesacker moving to the Emirates this summer, they are looking to cash in and due to the previous negotiations for Mertesacker last summer. . are giving Arsenal the first option for signing him. . done deal!

Not Likely. Now arsenal have been linked with about 5 defenders. Tasci, Mertesacker, Vertoghen, Cahill, Mehdi Benatia.

Wenger will sign only 1, as we have 4 central defenders, 2 LB, 2 RB as eboue is now sagna cover, and miquel who is improving as a bench player.

So arsenal have a bragaining tool and they will use it. I can envision wenger looking at a 8 million -10 million deal at most, so that rules out cahill and Vertoghen and tasci. .so it will be a battle between Nasri friend from udinese and Mert

Where are people getting that Buffon will be free this summer? As far as I can tell he is under contract with Juventus until 2013.

It seems unlikely that there would be a clause in his deal saying he can leave for free two years early, otherwise what's the point in the contract? o_O

f. {Ed002's Note - His contract runs to 2013 but Juventus may be willing to release him from his contract in order to rid themselves of his wages. I understand that his well publicised back problems don't seem to want to go away - and that may well be influencing a decision.}

I do not think there will be much change in the summer. when in the past 5 years have we signed more then 2 players in 1 window. If anything the most realistic players to be signed will be

Buffon - free
Wickham £12m - £15m?? ? Maybe
Tasci £10 mil or Mexes

Out

fabregas £35 mil
