Hi guys, just received a phone call from a friend in the Netherlands who has heard that Vertonghen to Arsenal is as good as complete. He is expected to be named Ajax player of the season at an awards bash in Amsterdam on Monday and will then announce he is moving to Arsenal in the days after. The whole Spurs story is a ploy to drive the price up as per but as far as I'm aware, the price is in the region of 8m. I'm also told that Wenger is keeping tabs on Twente striker De Jong if he decides to ship chamakh, park and bendtner out.

I'm only passing on what my friend has told me. I don't think we'll sign M'Villa if we get Jan Vertonghen but that's just a personal opinion.

Heard exactly the same & I also agree with the M'Vila comment.

I've heard its not done and dusted and according to the newspapers he's a Spurs fan.

I dont think we are in for him, we already have, Kos, Tv, Mert , Djrou, miguel, although what de boer said ealier in the month, I could be wrong.

The guy is in demand, 3 PL teams vying for him chasing CL football, this will drag on til next week at least.

Like I said, I'm only passing on info from a good friend. The media in Netherlands are reporting all sorts regarding Vertonghen but it's widely accepted that Arsenal are his destination. He said as much after Milan game at Emirates when he was a guest of Vermaelen. Personally, I think he'll join us. As for being a Spurs fan? We all know the papers are always 100% accurate, especially in this country. Watch this space.

I think we will sign vertonghen and M'vila. Vertonghen is being bought as a centre half after all the problems we've had this season giving away stupid goals in that area and as an emergency left back and defensive midfielder. We are gettin M'vila to provide direct competition to Song as Frimpong is recovering from a serious injury and Coquelin needs more playing time. They will both go out on loan

Dennis Bergkamp was a spuds supporter,but he was wise enough to know who was going to win things,and I'm sure Vertonghen will make the right decision too.

If the deal is done then why "drive the price up" more waffle..

Frimpong is a starter for a full proper season away loan once fit but with coquelin another loan away from the club surely would mean he won't ever return.
can't see wenger giving up on him plus when he's played for us this season he's showed how capable and decent he is.
cannot see us getting both vertonghen/m'vila unless song is leaving.

Vertonghen knows wheere he wants. To go. Its just up to Ajax and Arsenal to settle on a price. 8m is what I've been told the offer is, but the mention of spurs etc is a way of forcing arsenal to match or increase any potential bids from other teams. Makes sense to me?

This is what happens when a club wants a player. They enquire about him. The opposing club tells them what the asking price is. Then if the agent feels he could get money out of the transfer he hangs around looking for more clubs to get interested e.g Spurs. Vertongen will be an arsenal player Vermaelen is at arsenal and is from the same country Belguim. This is why it's taken so long. That's why it took so long with Podolski he wanted to come here straight away but the agent wanted to get other teams interested.

Ed's just scene the reported news in the tabloids of M'Villa getting arrested for assault. If true how could this effect Wenger's decision on the signing the player? {Ed002's Note - Yes and I don't know.}

If we do sign him, then it means that we have signed a true enforcer!!
