Before I get to the point of my post I have to say that my opinion of Wayne Rooney is obviously drawn from what I have read about him and seen so I can only draw my conclusions based on that. In saying that I would say that I do know a bit about football too and I am completely baffled when I read and see what a great player he is supposed to be. I have said it many times before. On the World stage he is so mediocre that if he went off the pitch you would hardly realise he was ever on it in the first place. Example last night as soon as he went off the game up front changed significantly. It was like a completely different side. We don't need Rooney in the England squad in my opinion.
I cannot remember him ever playing for England in any competitive game, not even a friendly, and thinking wow! what a player he is for us. To me his reputation seemed to have gathered momentum when he was 16 and scored against us. Well so what? he scored against Arsenal. What I am saying is would it have been such big news if he had scored against West Bromwich Albion? of course not. Why in the World are Manchester United paying him wages comparable to the likes of Messi, Iniesta, Silva, Bale, etc. he couldn't lick their boots. The talk about making him England captain! I have to laugh at that. If Rooney was offered to us for free that would be the only time I would consider him and that's only because he would sell a few shirts and would be ok to pull off the bench now and then in a league game. In a Champions League game he may aswell sit at home as again he vanishes into obscurity amongst class players. Guys! This is just my opinion ok? I can't see any value in him whatsoever in an England shirt at all.

Completely agree with you golds

I do agree with you. Apart from Euro 2004 where he was outstanding in that competition considering his inexperience he has been pretty useless in an england shirt in world cups and euros

Totally agree, I think he is a big part of why United are struggling, they have two great No 10's in Kagawa and Mata and they seem to pander to Rooney.

He really is dog awful and wouldn't want him anywhere near Arsenal.

When you see the Nike advert with Ronaldo, Neymar etc then he suddenly appears, it's like nooooooooo.

Thank you . Now why can we see it yet the selectors are constantly building him up like some sort of Messiah. Unbelievable.
