I know some people are supporting Wenger for not buying another defensive midfielder, I rate coquelin too, and I'm not at all Anti-Wenger and all that, but common let's not kid ourselves here.
United with schneiderlin--schweinsteiger and mata have one of the best midfield trios for the coming season.
Chelsea have matic--fabregas and Oscar.
City have yaya-fernandinho and silva if they play 4-2-3-1
While we also have cazorla and ozil, we still miss that top class defensive midfielder to complete that trio.
I know coquelin is good, but for the bigger games, the title deciders, champions league quarter finals, cruch 6 pointers in the league against top sides, we need a top class signing.
I would've been happy with ospina and Vidal rather than Cech and coquelin.
Coyg ;)

I see no reason to remove Coquelin. He has been at Arsenal for a number of years, his teammates seem to like and respect him and he plays hard every second he's on the pitch. Vidal on the other hand plays in more of a box to box role and has gotten a taste for goal so you will find him in advanced positions far too often for my liking. I don't expect Coquelin to score even if he plays 40+ games a season because he is so disciplined and so committed to filling his defensive responsibilities in the team.

Ospina is a good keeper but we know he's too short and has been exposed on a few occasions as a result. Cech is a major step up, just look at the comments players are making about the effect he is having on the changing room, got to love it! I also really think that Coquelin made Ospina look better than he is because it was his insertion into our starting line up that settled the defense rather than Ospina's. Coquelin's presence and his ability to break up play kept our CBs from getting caught out and allowed for our full backs more freedom to make forward runs.

Like everyone else your entitled to your opinion I just happen to totally disagree with it.
Cech v Ospina is a no brained and Le Coq v Vidal is like comparing Belerin to Messi totally different players with totally different jobs.
Personally I think we will sign more players but even if we didn't we are already 2000% better going into this season than last.
With Cech Gabriel and Le Coq alone winning the title maybe difficult but its a lot lot more doable than when we went into last season looking more likely to finish in the Europa league than win the premier league.

Shrikant,

Firstly it genuinely has nothing to do with supporting or not supporting Wenger.

We are fortunate to get some insights on here as to who the top clubs are looking at or sometimes the areas they are looking at from either ed02 or ed01.

That information you can't from the tabloids with any hint of it being true. That doesn't mean that everything the eds say will come to fruition because things will change and that's not under their control. The one thing I will say is they will not lead us up the garden path as this site is made on their honesty and if people believe they are just feeding us a load of tripe no one would bother coming back.

So that said we are led to believe, and hopefully I'm getting this right eds, that Wenger is looking for a defensive midfielder the first choice probably being Carvalho the second being Krychowiak.

Strikers are possibly Benzema, Lacazette and maybe even another I can't recall.

Now looking and buying don't always add up but that's the info we have, Wenger is Mr Poker face and will even answer yes if asked if he likes a particular player and off the papers go, example, the Vidal links.

Wenger will not be rushed and he is also likely to pull a transfer out of no where when that player suddenly becomes available.

Our midfield, Coquelin has come back and shown what he is capable of in that position, he still has a lot to prove and injury free I don't believe he will disappoint.

You also can't tell me that Ozil, Ramsey, Cazorla and Coquelin all fit and firing, like any team would hope their players to be, are not as good, or in fact, better than any of the other sides you have listed.

I don't think fans are giving this team of ours half the credit they deserve for the way they are playing as a group and the cohesion amongst them let alone the style.

It's like people are looking at an Arsenal side of 3 years ago.

Red Dog 81,
Don't get me wrong mate, I know coquelin has earned his place and he deserves to be in the team. But there ARE better players in the market, and we need to buy the remaining two positions one being the DM and the other being the striker, since we only have Giroud and Coquelin.
At least we need to sign players in these positions to atleast compliment each other if not replace them.
Chelsea are signing Pedro even though they have Willian, cuadrado, hazard and even Oscar who cal play on the wing.
We need to learn from the title winning teams, and beat them in their own game.
We are so close and no Gooner would like to pass away this summer, since we are very very close to winning the league!
Coyg! ;)

{Ed002's Note - Cuadrado will probably be gone, possibly Oscar as well.}

Mate,

I wasn't disagreeing with you as such, simply saying we know the positions we need to strengthen and from what the eds say we are looking at those exact positions.

It requires a little patience as Wenger will not be rushed into anything as Robbie said below.

We are a title winning club, we won it under Wenger, he knows more than most what it takes and that is what he is aiming at.

We have some fantastic quality in this team and its like people lose sight of that as soon as two weeks into the window we haven't brought every man and his dog.

It's almost like Petr Cech never happened. :-)

Shrikant they might have been possible upgrades o le coq on the market but there isn't now. Unless we get pogba I don't think we should bother looking for an upgrade. There's krychwiak and lars bender who could come in to compete with le coq . And you would prefer ospina and vidal come on please cech and le coq all day all night.

Shri let me get this straight, you think we need an upgrade on Le Coq but your perfectly happy with Mertersaacker to partner Kos?
You think Le Coq is a bigger concern than Monreal and Gibbs at LB?
Your more sure of Theo week in week out than Le Coq?
Just what is it Le Coq does or doesn't do that worry's you so much?

Red Dog 81,
yeah mate cech is a fantastic signing, i totally i agree, but it worries me that wenger might just keep his chequebook inside his pocket for this summer.

Browngun82,
i know mate there aren't better players than coquelin, who can be as disciplined as him, but we do need competition.

gunner62,
mertesacker is alright mate, he's not that bad and I'm happy with coquelin too. its just that i don't want this season to begin with just two quality players in coquelin and giroud in striker and Dm positions. What if they both get injured during the crunch march time?

:-) I won't get into Mertesacker fualts Shri mate as I'd be here all day so to save time I'll say this, his timing in a tackle is excellent and he was absolutely outstanding in the FA cup final plus just like Artetta Rosicky and Poldolski he's very good in the changing room I hear :-)
